My fic, set in Awakening Moon, just around the time Masumi almost leaves MANKAI (uploaded 06 Dec 2022):

“I had a new kind of attack yesterday. I felt like I’m up on stage, and I can only watch my body moves according to this character’s whim... but it’s not a character I made. It was kinda scary.” Itaru glanced at Citron. “Letting your body moves according to the character’s whim? Are you like that too when acting? Hisoka’s description sounds pretty mental if you ask me.” Citron shook his head. “Tsumugi also said my experience is not something he ever heard before, and I might need to relearn acting. Or else, there’d always be a risk of me getting an attack during a performance.” He also called it a depersonalization and derealization episode, and that Hisoka might have something called dissociation disorder besides everything else. Trauma usually caused that. It’s not at all surprising for Hisoka to have it, but it was a bit concerning. Looking at Itaru and Citron’s faces, it was more than a bit concerning, apparently. “That sounds tough.”

Manga idea i might or might not draw.

Taichi found out there's a study showing that women find men posing with a cat more attractive in dating sites. It says cats makes them seem more caring and nurturing.

He looks at the yard, sees Muku, Misumi, and Juza playing with cats and were like, tots legit! Get him a cat and hope for rising popularity! Super cool awesome manly Juza does seem softer with cats!

But Itaru laughed and becareful with the ratio, too much cat can be dangerous and Taichi is like what?

Then he pointed to the living room, in which Chikage was grumbling and complaining about Hisoka falling asleep in the sofa while eating and the marshmallows are all over the couch now while dutifully cleaning after him.

"... I'm still eating those."

"No, you don't these are already dirty, this sofa hasn't been washed in years."

Hisoka's hand reached out and he attempted to swipe the marshmallow from Chikage, and hissed when he failed.

"No!"

"Hsss!"

"Don't give me that, you imbecile."

On the opposite sofa, Masumi was somehow asleep on Citron's lap.

"As you can see, too much cat gives you mom energy. Thats not really sexy. Aim for Citron level of balance."

Citron smiles that smile which made Muku start calling him with suffix sama since before his identity is even revealed.

"I am mom but also sexy."

Taichi takes notes before going to Omi for a photoshoot.

When people say close your eyes and imagine, i... can imagine a concept but i can't see it with my mind eye. So... the image won't stay in my head, it's more like the idea will stay in my head and unless i draw them i won't ever see them and yea I get sick because sometimes I really want to see what I imagine.

You need to draw and make art or else all the images will stay in your head and you'll get sick

Guy doesn’t quite fit because he has amnesia, but he didn’t run away or have a known confused phase, so he doesn’t have fugue. Though one might argue that his ‘android’ self is he’s in fugue state, it’s also known that those with a dissociative disorder are more easily influenced than others. 

So, my argument on Guy is that yes, he has dissociative amnesia, but he doesn’t actually have android alter. He just thinks he’s an android from the verbal abuse by his parents that acts like hypnotism. He accepts stepfather’s claim that he’s inhuman. He’s still Guy. But he just stops thinking he’s human. 

As for Hisoka...

As I said, it’s canon for him to have dissociative disorder, but my headcanon is that December has become his alter. The highlight of DID is not remembering what should be remembered, and that people around them observed different demeanors which might suggest an alter, and there’s an episode of that in canon. That episode can also be explained by Hisoka having a fever dream. That’s why it’s my headcanon.

But, it’s fun to imagine, right?

Like in Scarlet Mirror. At first, Hisoka was absolutely terrified of July. It’s to the point of him going into fugue state AGAIN and ended up in god-knows-where. Even Chikage was like, okay, this is definitely because you got a flashback. Later on, after Juza and Kumon convince him he needs to make up with Chikage, Hisoka decides to go after Chikage and confront July with him.

But, is it that simple? 

The main point in Scarlet Mirror is that Hisoka is terrified of the organization and the possibility of them coming to kill everyone in MANKAI. That’s why Chikage decides to deal with it on his own. But, even if he’s convinced that Chikage took the hard way for his sake, is it that easy to overcome his fear which just days prior brought him down to a fugue state?

There’s also this exchange.

Izumi has witnessed him mentioning things he doesn’t remember afterwards, and she also has seen him with a different demeanor. This is why I’m arguing that December is his alter. Hisoka is terrified of the organization. December doesn’t. He’s taking over in this scene.

He has some lines that suggest that he put a line between Hisoka and December. 

At least, that’s how I read it.

It’s also fun to read Scarlet Mirror with the premise of Hisoka having DID because of the implication that Winters and Chikage obviously know that Hisoka has an alter. Chikage doesn’t want December to come out, and that’s why he’s insisting Hisoka should let it be. When ‘Hisoka’ goes to him and goes ‘what about December?’, and Chikage was so done because he realized that’s not Hisoka. That’s December.  Winters are taking the ‘we’ll support you whatever you decide’ approach. 

And then there’s Chikage’s chapter on epi12.

There’s the scene where Hisoka has to insist to Chikage that it was ‘Hisoka Mikage’ who looked up information about Date. Hisoka Mikage did, with the ways that is available to him as Hisoka Mikage. I’m reading it as Hisoka knowing that Chikage is worried and still uncomfortable with December coming out even though from Scarlet Mirror it can be seen that December isn’t exactly an evil alter, and so he’s assuring Chikage that it’s all Hisoka. Hence the many insistence and highlights on it.

Guy doesn’t have this kind of scenes and suggestive lines.

Hisoka is going to be lead in Winter's 9th so I am putting this here before the performance might refute my claims.

Hisoka has a Dissociative Identity Disorder.

The old and more well-known term would be Multiple Personality Disorder, and I know, it’s not like what’s usually described in other medias.

Hear me out.

In actuality, most of his problems can be chalked up to this.

Amnesia? Dissociative Amnesia, in which the patient repressed the memory of the trauma. 

It’s canon that Hisoka’s memory of what happened when August died remained faulty even until Scarlet Mirror. 

There’s also his claim of what happens before he reaches MANKAI. So, he’s walking around aimlessly, probably confused and disoriented, until he passed out in front of the dorm. That’s dissociative fugue, and often happens alongside those with amnesia.

In Epi4, he’s in a fugue state.

In the Christmas Event, when he froze up on stage... it’s unclear because it wasn’t in his POV, but there’s some possibilities. 

Cataplexy, in which stress causes him to lose control of his body. His muscle becomes unmoveable. Happens to narcoleptics.

Depersonalization episode, in which he loses control because he suddenly feels as if he loses said control. He’s having an out-of-body experience.

If it’s first scenario, he wants to move but his muscle wouldn’t cooperate. In the second scenario, it’s as if he wants to move but he’s not holding the remote, so to speak.

Either way, it’s clear from his comment to Sakuya that he’s been getting flashbacks.

So, my argument is that it's basically canon that he has dissociative disorder. My headcanon is that it's to the point of him developing multiple personality disorder.

The problem is that at the end of Epi4 and on Epi5, Hisoka comes to fear remembering because he doesn’t want to leave MANKAI. This is how December comes to become his alter. 

My headcanon is that that is December. 

Even canonically, there’s this scene that suggests that he has December as his alter. In Epi4, in which he got trapped in Unopening Door with Izumi, and commented that he finally remembered about August, but he didn’t seem to mention it again until Chikage arrives. He claims he doesn’t remember that he has said in front of Izumi that he’d remembered everything, and it’s supported with what happens in Epi5 and Scarlet Mirror that Hisoka really hasn’t remembered everything.

Maybe there are times when Hisoka takes the back seat and December takes over, though that's not that often and not obvious to others.

My headcanon aside, this observation leads to questions. The most important being, DID AUGUST'S DRUG EVEN WORK???

If Hisoka's symptoms can be chalked up to his defense mechanism against trauma, does the drug really is to erase memory? Could it have been to fake ones death, since obviously the organization wouldn't let anyone escape alive?

ARE YOU ALIVE NOW AUGUST???

It's going to be fun researching that.
