Candy: It just feels like it’s time. The kids are getting older, we have more free time.

Mikhail: You’re sure? I know we’ve talked about opening a cafe for years, but it’s a huge step.

Candy: We finally have some money set aside. . .

Mikhail: What about college?

Candy: You know the college funds are good. Besides, I hear that Villareal guy is opening up a new scholarship fund.

Mikhail: The guy who offed his wife?

Candy: That’s just a myth.

Mikhail: My mom said the same thing about vampires.

Candy: It’s just something to think about.

Mikhail: . . .You’re not mentioning something.

Candy: Okay, okay. Chaya said that she and Raina would be early investors.

Mikhail: Candy—

Candy: I know you don’t like relying on people, but they’re family. And you know they won’t miss the money.

Mikhail: Speaking of—it’s Raina.

Candy: Put it on speaker.

Raina: Hi, baby sibling!

Mikhail: Hey, Rain. Is this about the investment I’m just learning about?

Raina: Um. [awkward laugh] No, it’s actually not. I think I’ll let you two discuss that more before we talk about it. I actually was calling because, well, it’s summer break, isn’t it?

Candy: Oh yeah, the kids are ecstatic.

Raina: Candy, hi! Well, I had a fun idea. I know you two can’t come visit Mt. Komorebi this summer, but I was wondering if the kids could fly out.

candy: Alone?

Mikhail: Julien is turning 18 this fall, love.

Raina: We would keep a close eye on them—swear. I just thought they could spent their summer break on a trip out of the country.

Mikhail: You miss them, huh?

Candy: They definitely miss you guys.

Raina: The added benefit is getting to see them. So, how does it sound? It’s fine if you guys want to talk about it first. And make sure the kids actually want to come too, of course.

Candy: Oh, they will. Yeah, let us discuss it some, though. We’ll get back to you.

Candy: Take this as a tentative probably-yes. Right?

Mikhail: Right.

Raina: Great!

Raina: Looks like we'll probably be having some guests, darling!

Chaya: Really? We've got to start getting ready for them, then!

Raina: They're going to have the best summer of their lives.

RETURNING DAWN — Chapter 2 starts soon, with planned weekly updates like [insert your favorite network television show here]. Two main plots will intertwine in this chapter, one involving vampires Alexei and Lincoln, and the other involving their human niece Avery and a handsome, mysterious suitor (it's Malcolm, we all know that). Tune in for the first post of this chapter soon! (And remember: I'm very much treating "Chapter 2" like the beginning of this story, since this story started off as just gameplay and then a legacy. Feel free to literally just start with Chapter 2!)

Episode 30: Coming Clean

If Paul was planning to test the waters about coming out, it seemed that talking to Jamie was the best start. After their awkward encounter which revealed their shared attraction to Thornton, they still hadn’t properly talked about it.

Paul began by asking her what happened between her and Thornton that night–aside from the dirty version she’d already told him about. He made it clear that he was asking without judgment and that there were no hard feelings. After all, she was right that they never defined their relationship.

She said she was upset with Thornton that night and confronted him. She didn’t think it was right for him to cut her off like that because of Morgana’s insecurities. After some back and forth about it, Thornton and Jamie both admitted to having feelings for each other. Things started to get physical, but Thornton stopped and said he couldn’t continue. That was when Jamie stormed off and found Paul.

She apologized for using Paul to deal with her feelings about Thornton, but Paul supposed he was doing the same thing that night. “If you didn’t already figure it out, I’m bisexual,” he confessed, feeling a bit lighter now that he’d shared the truth with someone else.

Jamie sensed the weight he’d been carrying and warmly embraced him. She assured him that she didn’t feel any differently about him and supported him 100%. Paul was appreciative, but pointed out that the bigger issue at hand was her feelings for another man. Jamie sighed. “I wish I didn’t want him, but I do,” she said, her eyes brimming with tears.

“I guess I could say the same,” Paul quipped, and they both laughed at the awkwardness of the situation. It felt good to share a laugh with someone over something that had caused him such turmoil.

Ultimately, Paul and Jamie agreed that there were too many outside factors at play for them to continue their romantic relationship and decided to just be friends.

After Jamie left, Danica and Wesley came to check in with Paul. They'd picked up on the tension between him and Jamie and were wondering if everything was okay with them.

Without getting into all of the details, Paul told his friends that he and Jamie decided they were better as friends. He also took the opportunity to come out to them. They both apologized for the hurtful comments they'd made in the past and promised to be more supportive.

Paul ended the day feeling as though a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He was finally experiencing the acceptance he'd craved for so long. He just hoped coming out to his family would be this easy.

Erwin: I, uh… I can’t… I’m sorry! I—I have to go.

Cahill: Figures…

Frankie: Erwin, wait. What the hell is going on?

Erwin: Look, I don’t have an explanation that’s gonna satisfy you. I’m just scared, I’m a wimp, whatever, ok? I don’t want to be a part of this anymore.

Frankie: Wait, what? No… you can’t back out now.

Erwin: Yeah, well, that’s what I’m doing.

Frankie: Are you fucking kidding me? After everything you’ve put me through?

Erwin: Everything I’ve put you through??

Frankie: Look. We need your help. … I need your help.

Erwin: I’m sorry. I have a life here. I have to protect that.

Frankie: Fine. But what about the rest of us?
