I can’t speak for others in the fandom, but I personally really didn’t enjoy the 2013 Harlock movie. Harlock’s characterization was all wrong, the plotline of the movie itself was all over the place, and I won’t even start about Yama as a whole. While I do agree that the cinematics were beautiful, it wasn’t nice enough to distract me from what I thought was bad about the movie. 

If you enjoyed the movie, though, that’s fine, and the fact that you both want to watch more of Harlock is even better! We welcome you with open arms if you want to give the Leijiverse a chance. Just don’t expect long-time Harlock fans to have a good opinion of the movie ^^’

Is the Captain Harlock movie supposed to be bad?? I saw a lot of people calling it bad, but I watched it yesterday and I loved every second of it. It even made me look for the original anime and I'm watching it now.

Oh I don’t know? I don’t think the movie is supposed to be bad, it is just not following the original story, but maybe the old fans wanted to see something they knew from their childhood and not a space captain put into a steampunk world, but animation is awesome and I think the movie deserves more popularity. I really loved it from the beginning and I had to find out more about this character and watched the old series with super bad quality. Also it is how I found One Ok Rock, because their song ‘be the light’ was the movies theme! :3

I saw your article about what The F. In Harlock's full name is. The Harlock we know has the official name of Frederick (it's the F.) Harlock Phantom and not Francis Harlock as he presents in Space Symphony. I can tell you more if you want to know more about Harlock.

I’m confused. I never made any article about anything, and I definitely don’t claim to know what the “F” in Harlock’s name stands for…

Are you perhaps referring to this post?

Like the post mentions, we don’t actually know the first name of the space pirate Harlock because his name was never revealed. The only “Harlocks” we know the name of are the WW2 pilots (Phantom F. Harlock) and the cowboy (Franklin Harlock Jr.).

Unless you’re Leiji Matsumoto himself, or the newest chapters of Dimensional Voyage have revealed his name, I’d highly suggest you don’t go around claiming that it’s fact.

“Well... I-I don’t know... ” Luna struggled with her words. Despite him being slightly shorter than her, the man was still quite intimidating. He seemed like he was quick to snap, and she didn’t want to provoke him... How would he react if she refused? She didn’t really want to think about it. 

Luna looked around quickly, looking back at the open pantry with about 20 huge bags of sugar stacked at the bottom.

“How much sugar do you need to make moonshine anyway? Is it really so bad for me to take a cup or two?”

“Ah, I-I’m sorry, sir,” she fumbled nervously while slowly turning to face him. “I-I was asked by the guys in mess hall to bring it to them so we could s-start making dinner…”

The larger man walked up and playfully poked his index finger right on her forehead with a slight smirk. “Oi. No reason to be scared, right? It is just it was a pain in the ass to get that away from Masu in the first place. The old crone could deal without missing one stupid bag of sugar. Come on, Rookie. Be cool for once, huh?”

Can we just pull an Avatar-live-action and pretend this whole movie never happened? I’d be super down for that.

THANK YOU CORN-PONE!!! In which someone else gives all the reasons why this film (and the Harlock it portrayed) betrays the spirit of Harlock and why I refused to praise or showcase it on this blog.  The 2013 Harlock is a case-point in character-assassination. I know a lot of fans like it (and draw way too much fan art of it) but I cannot see any real reason why - unless it has something to do with the great CGI effects. It’s just not for me. If I had been exposed to this Harlock straight off the bat, I would have never become a fan, much less the mod of a fan-blog.
