**CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:**
Nikolai was raised by his father to be four things: cruel, cold, successful, and ruthless. Nikolai’s mom took her last breath just as he was taking his first, leaving his ~~asshole~~ father to raise him on his own. Nikolai grew up alone, often either abandoned by his father at home, or taken along to some of his father’s most unpleasant errands which always ended in blood.
His father had attended Durmstrang, and had nearly sent his own son there to follow in his steps. Yet by some miracle, or strings invisible to the then eleven year old, he was allowed to attend Hogwarts. There he grew close to his fellow Slytherins. But there was one person who had gotten past the defenses- a blonde mudblood named Mary. The two formed a close bond for a while, one which ended abruptly by Nikolai’s own hand.
Now he works within the ministry, by some shit struck of luck reunited with McDonald. He’s joined the death eaters along with his close friends from Hogwarts, bearing the mark of their Dark Lord.

half-blood witch, born to a muggleborn wizard and a half-blood mother - this obviously was a big influence on her views of things regarding the war. it also meant she had some strong feelings on the whole blood purity thing given that her father was a muggleborn.
gryffindor and same year as the marauders and co, and so very easily fell into their friend group.
insert smol drama here with remus during 6th year, where jsut before a supermoon, he lashed out at her and hurt her some. of course, it isn’t something that she has ever held against him - in fact, when he puts himself down about it, she tends tell him to cut that shit out.
after graduating from hogwarts, and knowing that she was quite the skilled witch, she began working for the ministry and eventually became a hit witch - something that she sometimes feels a little guilty about but its fine, we don’t think about it, and she’s doing it for something good, right?
she has recently been away for a long while on a mission or two (shhh who knows where??) but upon hearing about dorcas’ death, which, given that they were close friends, she is obviously rather upset and angry about, she decided to return. lil ball of angy.

CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:
james grew up an only child, one that longed to be around more kids his age. his primary school was a relatively small one and once he started presenting magical abilities at 8 years old, he was pulled out to be home schooled. it meant that james had a bit of an awkward first year at hogwarts, trying to figure out how to act around other children-- eternally the old soul type because of his majority exposure to adults. but this soon presented in james acting out, not in any kind of bad way but just… attention seeking traits. playing class clown. the centre of attention type. because any attention was good attention, right? this was how a kid made friends? he figured, it worked. it got him his little gang. and by second year, they were closer than ever when they figured out remus' secret.
this kind of attitude continued for a lot of james' school life, but there was also a very obvious trait in him that couldn't be ignored or overlooked: his loyalty. the kind of fiery passion for those he cared about that wouldn't back down. his friends would joke that it made him the mother hen of the group, and honestly, he didn't really mind. caring for his friends came naturally, as did fighting for them at every turn. this was why the suggestion was made for him, sirius and peter to become animagi in order to help remus through the full moons.
it's also this loyalty that made him so torn when things went to shit between remus and sirius over the prank incident in sixth year. he felt deeply for sirius, knowing what he was struggling with at home, knowing that his actions weren't out of spite, but something else. but he understood how hurt remus must be-- he was too in all honesty. he never expected they'd end up where they were. so he distanced for a while. but, eventually, when sirius turns to him when he leaves home, it draws him back in again. he can't be apart from someone who is like a brother to him for long. eventually, the gang pieces themselves back together, but james is still accutely aware that things aren't the same.
but then but then but then, lily evans. the person james never could have imagined changing his life in quite the way she has. he'd always had a crush, but it wasn't until 7th year that things changed for them. that they really got closer. maybe it was because of how much he'd grown over the summer period-- his parents getting sick kind of brought him back down to earth, to some level of maturity. whatever it was that made her see him differently, james is forever thankful for it. because he couldn't imagine life without her. she didn't change him, but they certainly grew together. intricately woven vines. though he's terrified of losing her, and was terrified when all of the prophecy bullshit came about, there's nothing he would fight for quite like his family.
which brings him to now. just left the auror training team, deciding that… he couldn't commit his heart to it. that he didn't believe in it, believe that they could really do any good for anyone. so now, he's out of work. stay at home dad and husband and he kind of likes it, really. and he intends to use the time to not only fight in the war, but maybe heal some of the weaker parts in his friendships.

General Opinions On The War: All in all, he thinks both sides will be destroyed and possible magic with it. His stance, is that secrecy is paramount and neither side is really pro-creature. He has his concerns about muggle-born integration and betrayal, but he’s hardly a blood purist and doesn’t see how War has been a silent matter. The muggles whisper disturbances, in their own ways.
Character Biography:
The Smite family sustained a degree of neutrality in the magical and mundane world, partly as a matter of distance, living within the cold embrace of Russia, and partly from knowing how both sides played. Alex was given his choice of schools. Koldovstoretz was closer but Durmstrang offered more courses that were of interest to him and his family. Light Magic could be studied anywhere, but learning The Dark Arts under a skilled teacher was becoming a rarity.
On Summer vacation he was twelve, Alex was bitten by a werewolf. Realistically, he knows a twelve year-old doesn’t have a fighting chance against a full-grown werewolf, but that doesn’t stop him from wondering if there wasn’t something he could have done. A rock he could have grabbed, a burst of magic he could have willed forward … He didn’t have to be out there that night, watching the stars. That was his fault, even if he didn’t know anything was stalking his grounds and none of their wards were set off.
Looking back, Alex doubted he had a run in with Greyback. If it had been him, Alex thought he would have gone for the face. Not arms and chest. His parents ran into the yard, green light chasing a fleeing enemy. It’s the small things he remembers vividly- That he can still feel. Blood pooling in his hands, the color, the fur that was stuck under his nails until the next day as his father picked him up. “I fucked up this time, didn’t I?” His father let the swearing slide under the circumstance as they retreated, sealing their son’s wounds in silence.
Surprisingly, Durmstrang was accepting of the news, and welcomed him to continue his education as planned. Later, their offer was put bluntly. Join Voldemort. He wouldn’t be equal to other Death Eaters, but he would have a better life. That was promised. “You don’t have to decide now. You’re too young for that … Just, keep it in mind.” Alex left the offer in the wind with no plans of taking it. He didn’t believe in their promises or the cause. But refusing was too dangerous. His secret was safe. If word got out, he would be expelled immediately.
Such was the way of the world.
Alex transferred to Hogwarts as a way to escape the growing pressure building in Durmstrang and indeed, Koldovstoretz. Looking back, the Alma Mater to the majority of Death Eaters was a horrible move, but it had seemed safe at the time. It was far away and he hoped to simply graduate under the radar of everyone as a young boy with passing grades and trouble with the English language in his initial transfer year. The name Smite gathered some attention, general knowledge of his family’s neutrality and wealth being easy enough to come by. Perhaps times were changing now that he found himself in the viper’s den.
His secret was kept throughout graduation to this day. Pressure to join The Death Eaters, pressure to join The Order- or, at least, swear he wouldn’t fight against them, coming from all sides. It was all a mess really. Save for fact of getting him out of Durmstrang and out of Russia once he graduated, one step closer to his goal of carving out a life for himself he regards transferring as a mistake.
Presently he finds himself living in a tiny flat in a bad neighborhood, working most any job he can find. Sometimes it’s easier to find stable work in the muggle world, converting the currency into something usable. As the years went on, relations with his family grew strained and distant, leading him to the conclusion that he needed to fend for himself in this world. Things are fine. His life is quiet.
Sometimes, he provides his services to the rare person who whispered in the right ear for a fee. Alex’s wildly talented in The Dark Arts, finding his magic naturally tuned to it. He had quite a bit of trouble learning the curriculum at Hogwarts, which leaned heavily toward Light Magic.

CHARACTER PROFESSION IF RELEVANT: unspeakable, works in the brain room, his main area of study is neuroscience behind the use of magic. meanwhile, thomas is a tutor (which he definitely doesn’t use to gather more data for research) and retired academic (he still publishes something every now and then, whenever he can gather enough material that isn’t classified).
SCHOOL ATTENDED & HOUSE IF RELEVANT: hogwarts, ravenclaw, for his last two years at school. traveled a lot before that and attended several schools, including ilvermorny (thunderbird), beauxbatons (lutin), helvetia, all for various periods of time, usually around a year, as well as many smaller schools/private tutors.
ALIGNMENT (the order/death eaters/etc) + GENERAL OPINIONS ON THE WAR/THEIR SIDE: aligned to whatever party that has his coffee machine’s best interests at heart. that’s mostly order. he doesn’t enjoy murdering people and authoritarian regimes, but he’s also way too deep in his own research to do much else. tristan isn’t very close with the order. thomas sometimes tags along jane and thus knows some things.
CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY: born in a family of diplomats for the british ministry of magic, tristan had a rather carefree upbringing in a wealthy family. he traveled around a bit, and the most bothersome part about it was that he had to part from his friends over and over again (and even that wasn’t so terribly bad, with international teleports easily available to his family).that is, until he reached the age of fifteen and his younger sister aurelia died in her first magical outburst at the age of seven, collapsing part of a roof on herself.his family broke apart after that. his parents divorced and he and his mother settled in london, although he spent more time at hogwarts than home and rarely saw her. even while home. her grief turned into depression, tristan’s own made him finally focus on his studies, on what he wanted in life, because there was one question that never left him now: “why?”he became obsessed with the origins of magic, not some metaphysical place, but where it originated in the human body and mind. he needed a cold, hard, scientific explanation for his sister’s death, because such a cheerful and vibrant child simply *couldn’t* have died in an accident. that seemed more wrong than anything.the rest is history. he graduated hogwarts, enrolled into university to study both neurology, neuroscience and the theory of magic and got approached by representatives from the department of mysteries at his last year of studies. of course, he accepted their offer.it was easy enough to warp whatever life he had had before into the new identity of thomas white, granted that he had been very antisocial for years and dedicated most of his time to studies, and bury tristan lawrence in a room full of liquid tanks and brains. it wasn’t all that bad. becoming an unspeakable gave him a renewed purpose, and (although he would never admit it out loud) a new circle of friends.even if they did break his coffee machine constantly.

ALIGNMENT (the order/death eaters/etc) + GENERAL OPINIONS ON THE WAR/THEIR SIDE: true neutral but it's funky zelda barely has a place in the war. the department of mysteries is often a neutral stronghold, one unaffected by the goings on in the outside world, committed to their studies instead. battles and fights come and go, sometimes they even touch upon the department, but none ever truly infiltrate. zelda, in a way, has become distanced from the troubles of the outside world. but that doesn't mean they don't have an image to upkeep-- the life of jane davis crosses over with the order from time to time, giving inside knowledge and names of people of note. it's also a way to ease their guilt over what happened to their family.
CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:
zelda grew up the child of an infamous magical creative fiction writer and a muggle painter. the middle child of three kids, zelda grew up in a very progressive house and both of their parents were adamant that whatever zelda chose to do in life, it should be chasing happiness first and foremost.
a creative household, there was a lot of emphasis on exploring talents and hobbies over much else. schooling was of course encouraged, but it was always about chasing what made you happy over what society tended to tell you was right and what you could make a career out of.
zelda went off to hogwarts and her eldest sibling was in his last year of study (sixth with the plan of not returning for seventh). their youngest sibling was three years younger that zelda so not due to start anytime soon. tragedy struck at the beginning of zelda's second year. with her family all at home while she was at hogwarts, they were attacked for being blood traitors. their mothers were targeted for their often loud, outspoken nature on how toxic pure-blood ideologies were and as such, they were punished by death eaters.
both of zelda's mothers were killed alongside their brother and younger sister, leaving them orphaned with no family left to speak of in the magical world due to their mum being an only child, and only a distant uncle on their mother's side in the muggle world.
they ended up in a muggle orphanage and spent anytime not at hogwarts there, fighting against anyone that ever showed an interest in adoption.
it was the death of their family that turned zelda to a fascinated obsession with death and turning back time. they longed to find the deathly hallows, believing that if true of heart, you could master the resurrection stone. of course, they've never come across the object.
but what zelda did find along the way, was a world of research into extending life and turning back time. and when they learned the truth of time turners, the obsession only grew. from their fifth year and onwards, zelda became fixated on research into time turners, into the idea of controlling time itself and perhaps even bringing back what once was lost.
this in depth research and experimentations were what drew zelda to the department of mysteries and as such, three years after their graduation from hogwarts, after finishing a degree in chrono and horormancy, they were approached by someone from within the department and ever since, they have been focused on their research, dedicated not only to their work, but those bonds made within the department that run deeper than any friendship ever truly could.
of course, with committing to a new life within the department, came a need for a double life. for a cover. and so, jane davis was born. someone free to walk among the world, a covered used by zelda during their free time. jane interacts with the order from time to time, writes for the prophet and is quite the bookworm. apparently, she studied at beauxbatons. jane is a private kind of person, but there is clear power beneath. obvious grudges and hatred toward the death eaters and their leader.
only really those within the unspeakables department know the truth of what happened to zelda and their family.

**CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:**
Mary Macdonald was the only child born to Lucy and Thomas Macdonald, simple Muggles, who doted on their daughter whenever they could. Overall, Mary had an extremely happy childhood where she grew up with many cousins that felt like siblings, so when she got her letter to start her education at Hogwarts, she was shocked. The young brunette was soon swept away to a world of magic and wonder, something that happened in fairytales and books, not in Mary’s world. As she proceeded through her first few years at Hogwarts, she soon realized that she had an immense love for animals and plants, as she quickly excelled in Herbology and Care of Magic Creatures.
Mary’s love for Hogwarts halted when her loving nature was tested to the extreme. A boy, who she thought was a friend of hers, attacked her when she least expected it and she was left traumatized for the rest of her fifth year. The rest of her time at Hogwarts was less than satisfactory; she went to her classes and did well, but she had no passion left in her studies like before. She graduated from Hogwarts and got a job in the Muggle world, but she soon became bored and felt her skills weren’t put to the test properly, so she left after a year.
Intending on pushing herself further and succeeding in a career, she began an assistant job in the Ministry of Magic to none other than Mulciber; it was quite literally her living hell, but if she wanted to succeed, she had to take the consequences. Mary moved out of her parent’s home soon after she began her job at the Ministry and got a small flat in London, close to Diagon Alley. The time by herself had proven to be the peace and therapy that she somewhat needed, and it was refreshing to be sharing herself between the Muggle and Wizarding world.

being sorted into ravenclaw, she was told that there were others like her, and having done her own reading and research into hogwarts and it’s origins, she of course knew of the founders. and there had always been things about rowena that when she read them, felt like those hazy memories she used to talk about.

**CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:**
A pure blood, born to an affluent family, connections up the arse, and endless opportunities. These are all things that Sirius got told he should be thankful for, that he would go to Hogwarts and get sorted into Slytherin as the rest of his family before him. And one day after graduation he would be able to do just about anything he wanted. But that all came with conditions, small print written in the blood of all those his family looked down upon.
The rebellious child, the blood traitor, blown off the family tree and erased. All titles he earned on his own, proudly so. He carved out the life he wanted for himself at Hogwarts, abandoning all of his “family traditions”, and making his own with his new best friends. Well- more than friends, they all became his found family.
Sirius has dedicated himself to help in any way that he’s able, still remaining in close contact with the rest of the Marauders while working for the Order.

**CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:**
born in america - mobius was born to a muggle family and during the earlier years of his life, everything seemed to be normal, happy and well. he’d always been a curious child, interested in anything and everything, which his parents nurtured. however, when it became apparent that he had magic, that was something that freaked them out a little bit. he did then find himself in england when his parents moved over for work - which happened to be just in time for a letter from hogwarts to turn up on their doorstep. this wasn’t something that they were particularly happy about but mobius was going whether they liked it or not.
in general, he was a somewhat reserved and quiet kid while growing up, his curiosity to learn and know more taking presidence over exploring who he was as a person. of course, that all comes with growing up and getting older, all part of the experience. and during his 5th year, while studying for exams, he found himself developing quite the soft spot for a fellow slytherin student who soon became his boyfriend. relationships might be just a normal thing, not such a huge revelation but for mobius, it was a big thing for him to acknowledge and accept a part of himself that he’d perhaps been hiding from. and when wanting to share his news with his parents - things didn’t go down well. long story short: ties with them were severed and he chose to stay true to himself rather than try to make them happy. this relationship, however, came to a messy end in their 6th year when he learned that loki had pledged his loyalty to the death eaters, which felt like such a betrayal to him.
after this and after hogwarts, as well as being part of the order, mobius buried himself in work/obsessing over it. anything to keep the mind busy.

SCHOOL ATTENDED & HOUSE IF RELEVANT: hogwarts, hufflepuff (for his last year only, went to koldovsdvoretz for two years prior to that, home-schooled before)
ALIGNMENT (the order/death eaters/etc) + GENERAL OPINIONS ON THE WAR/THEIR SIDE: member of the order, makes a good show of caring about all the sides of the struggle equally (and it’s not that he *doesn’t* care), but those working with him more frequently know that him taking on all the missions for eradicating particularly dangerous vampire’s on voldemort’s side has a rather manic edge to it.
CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:
- born to a family of wizards in rural estonia, edgar had a rather happy and careless childhood, learning magic from his mother alongside his many siblings, enjoying the simple life of a small, closely knit wix community. that is, until his sister caught the attention of the wrong man. a vampire, and one not in full control of his more bloodthirsty nature. he turned edgar’s sister while he was away to visit some distant relatives, and she in turn could not contain herself and, although moved by what she thought were her best intentions, shared the curse with her family. by the time edgar returned, it was already too late to stop what followed. the other locals were reasonably frightened by a sudden spike in the number of unchecked vampires, local authorities got involved, and because his family had been turned in a way considered ‘unsanctioned’, they were all exterminated. that’s what it said on the report later. exterminated. as if they were some animals. and the man who started it all walked free.
- edgar vowed to find and kill him after that. he was barely fourteen at the time, but stubborn and obsessed with vengeance. but he knew he needed the right skills and opportunities first. he was put in foster care and out of sheer luck accepted into koldovsdvoretz, where he was even more fortunate to meet the right people to teach him what he wanted to know. turned vampires weren’t particularly respected in magical russia, not after the chaos they commonly sowed just a few decades earlier.
- the summer after he turned sixteen he got to travel to prague on a dueling competition and that summer turned out to be a turning point because he met vitezislav. he was a vampire and edgar didn’t attempt to attack him only because he was also a member of the jury. though, during the next week they talked surprisingly often, because it turned out that as a born vampire, vitezislav shared much of the same distaste for what he called the ‘animalistic’ murder committed by his brethren. it was he who gave edgar the nudge at england and the storm brewing there, as well as the opportunities it could present.
- it wasn’t terribly hard to get into an exchange program to hogwarts for his last year, although rather than diligent studying, edgar had a single goal in mind: find out everything he could about the vampires gathering under what people whispered to be 'death eaters’. and, well, he got that and more.
- things moved quickly after that. he graduated, joined the order, although at first his presence was scarce, only when important missions hunting dark creatures were in order, because edgar spent plenty of time traveling, refining his skills. he met vitezislav again, which was both extremely confusing for his moral compass but also highly educational, made friends with a fellow hunter arina, whose reasons for doing what she did stayed a mystery to him, and well. hunted vampires. not any vampires, mind, he had spent too long studying them to still think that all of them were bloodthirsty monsters, but those that had the tales of blood spilled stretching after them? they all got on his list.
- which brings us to the here and now, him returning to the order, after hearing some particularly interesting stories of another of voldemort’s vampire pawns in need of being put down. and, seeing how they have come from odin himself, one of the formerly most respected vampire hunters in the region, edgar sees no reason to doubt their validity.

CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY:
loki is a born vampire, the odd one out in a family of regular wizards. loki was adopted stolen as a baby, taken from a clan of vampires that were brutally killed in a 'war' (read: they were extremely loud in what they are and odin, leader of a family of hunters, said 'fuck that noise' bc hes an asshole and killed them all but frigga convinced him to spare the child). his family are a lot Less involved in that shit now and leaned more into politics throughout loki's life, but it still meant loki grew up feeling like the black sheep, the odd one out in his family.
loki makes up for a lot of his displaced feelings by being an intense overachiever both in life and academics. he also chose to go to hogwarts, to move away from home and what he knew in order to get some further separation from his father in particular and carve his own life for himself. it was scary leaving everything behind, but loki always deems it worthwhile to gain his independence.
due to his familial connections and fantastic, unique skills in physical magic, shapeshifting and potions, loki was approached in his sixth year of study to join the death eaters. this resulted in a very messy breakup with his 5th-6th year boyfriend and we sob forever over the angst of it. definitely won't be more to say on That later,, not at all,,, definitely no angst threads to come--
registered as an animagus in 6th year too, his form is a snake! distinguishing feature is a patch of silvery/blueish scales that stand out from the dark
doesn't support pureblood bullshit at all, especially since he's a vampire, but he's willing to eat up whatever the death eaters promote and say in order to find a place, somewhere he thinks he'll belong.
in the past few months, his loyalties have been swaying. seeing the truth of lord voldemort and what the death eaters must do-- what kind of horrific acts they deem right to achieve their goals… it's left him feeling a little ugly. he never wanted to be a monster, but he now feels like one. the sense of belonging he once felt, the way voldemort took him under his wing… it's all gotten a bit jaded and ugly. he wants an escape, but he's terrified and wonders if it's even possible.
