“And the beauty of that tiny frail thing, vividly white in the sunshine upon that enormous background of emptiness…was something so enormous in itself, that it went straight through me like a violent lance of pain. So minute a little naked frog, hairless and helpless, to have made the earth such a place of horror and itself, incidentally, in the making, a thing so infinitely great….All those complicated bedevilments of iron and dynamite, got together at so vast an expense of thought and money and labor to destroy just–that.”
-Reginald Farrer, The Void of War.
White House Landing, Virginia, 1862. Original photo of supply vessels and detail showing a bathing Federal soldier. I love that he obviously knows he’s being photographed for the folks back home–and posterity–and yet he still stands there, naked as the day he was born, his arms crossed, perhaps even smiling! In the heat of southeast Virginia, toiling day after day in all that lice-ridden wool, the opportunity to strip and wash off in a river was probably a moment of unparalleled joy. God bless you, anonymous nude Yankee, for not being ashamed to share this moment with the ages.
Being a girl is: wanting to go to bed early but deciding to just get on tumblr/wattpad/Ao3 for a little bit and then end up finding a fic series that you really like and read until well past your usual bedtime then keeping on because it’s already past your bedtime. Then being mad when you wake up in the morning because you overslept your timer.
Senior pets have a hard time getting adopted. The likelihood of adoption is only 25% compared to 60% for a younger dog. Unfortunately, this is often due to prejudice. I want to raise awareness with this comic (and also get back to my roots, which I haven't really managed to do yet). But I want to start uploading more regularly again. Thank you for your patience so far.
