             kara pulled herself upright against the leather seat, the steel plating of the wrecked mainframe of the ship’s control panel crumpling between her hands like an aluminum can as she blindly pried herself from the debris. judging by the deformed, shredded shape of the scorched chassis, what was left of their vehicle would been near impossible to salvage.

             though she and mon-el were aptly equipped for any contingency, it did not dissuade her anxiety regarding the whereabouts of her partner. she dared to raise her voice,

               kara tucked her legs underneath the seat her office chair and swiveled herself back and forth at her desk; the office atmosphere hummed politely with the idle chatter of her coworkers and the dutiful, rhythmic tapping of keyboard strokes. a fresh croissant and quickly cooling latte from noonan’s waited patiently at the edge of her desk for cat grant’s waiting hands. 

               the nearly audible sneer in her boss’ voice cut through the murk of the distant commotion with crystalline clarity, growing ever-closer with the ascent of the elevator and kara rose from her seat, smoothening the front of her shirt.

               kara grappled gracelessly with the weight of the careening aircraft and the massive, six-armed, or rather tentacled, alien inhabiter that occupied it. one writhing appendage had snared itself securely around her waist, the hooked tip clawing furiously at the material of her cape. the creature’s energy-repellant skin had not only resisted both her heat vision and freeze breath but absorbed it, and was now beginning to gurgle and effervesce profusely.

               kara watched with thinly veiled horror and disgust as the alien commenced a crude mitosis cycle, replicating it’s gruesome form which spewed a corrosive, red secretion that splattered onto her suit and clung to the underside of the plane.
