you don’t hate winter, you hate living an atomized existence where you get up and go to your shitty job rather than sit inside under a fire with your kin telling stories, eating, and playing

I really do hate this trend on queer/lgbtqiapn+ Tumblr of like trying to divide everyone up into neat clear categories and identities. As if our identities and experiences haven't always been overlapping and shared.
Two people who label themselves the same way may have very different kinds of experiences or two people wihh different labels may have very similar experiences. What ever happened to sexuality and gender are complicated and fluid? Whatever happened to defining your own identity?
Why are yall sitting around clutching your terms and your pearls like "no only this kind of (insert identity here) is valid/allowed to use this term, everyone else has to leave." especially for terms that like??? Historically have been open and used by more than one queer identity? Or have had multiple meanings in the past?
Lowkey like... Stop trying to make things be clear cut and make sense to cishet people. Because like... We won't. Identity is complicated and fluid and personal and as queer/lgbtqiapn+ people we often have to examine and try to understand it on a much more complicated and nuanced level than allo cis straight people have to.
And us being ~confusing~ isn't why they hate us, and simplifying our identities into rigid boxes (and then ostracising someone who can't fit into the more rigid boxes you've created and who therefore has to use a term 'wrong' or make their own term and then get called 'mogai hell') will not make cishets like or accept us!!!
Our identities are fluid and complex and interconnected and you don't have a right to tell someone how to identify because you think they don't quite fit your idea of what that label means. A lot of our labels can mean lot of things, encompass a lot of experiences, or have been used by multiple queer groups, and have done so historically. Respect that. Respect how people identify. If someone is identifying with a certain label its probably for a reason and they don't have to expose all the nuances of their identity to a stranger to justify that.

from this thread, the majority of the threaded comments were dumb sex jokes in response to op’s answers but i felt this was worth preserving
