The Lost Hero au where everything is exactly the same except Piper never had romantic memories of Jason and Leo cause he thinks he’s joking about not remembering makes the joke that he and Jason are in love and definitely dating and then no one ever feels the need to clarify that he was joking and Jason spends the entirety of the book thinking Leo has memories of them dating and Jason’s having a crisis while Leo doesn’t even remember the joke.

Apparently I have more random thoughts on this lol.

I feel like there would need to be more of a time gap from pjo to start of HoO so that Hazel and Leo both had some time at their camps.

What if Percy turned 18 right before they leave for camp Jupiter so he gets to be the adult chaperone ajfhsjjjdhajsk

I just think it would be funny if his main role is to bring the thunder and experience in big fights but whenever there’s a bunch of side quests he’s like “you guys got this right? I have to get through my summer reading and act prep.”

Also I’m thinking about how the girls strengths are things like outsmarting their opponents, tricking with visuals or words etc. So Annabeth is kind of mentoring Piper and Hazel in that respect.

Meanwhile the boys are just bursting with raw powers, but ones that are very closely tied to their emotions? (To be clear they are all smart in their own ways too just like the girls are powerful I’m just generalizing). And Jason actually has a GREAT handle on his powers (maybe less power than some of the seven but it’s we don’t talk a lot about how he has a lot more control than the rest of them). So maybe Jason gets to help them with learning to control their powers/gifts.

Also thinking about how Annabeth was betrayed by Luke who went on to literally raise Kronos to a physical form. Over the course of the quest it’s revealed that Piper has been maybe considering betraying them for her father’s safety this whole time. Hazel literally helped build the body for one of the giants. Just…. the tension ya know. Maybe being able to forgive and help Piper and Hazel helps heal something in her that was still hurting from Luke.

Oh also it’s really interesting that both Leo and Hazel view their abilities as curses, AND played a role in both of their mother’s deaths?? Kind of crazy that never comes up between them. It’d be very fun to lean into those parallels.

Oh and so then there’s like… ok so how’s the Argo 2 built? What if Leo has always had dreams on occasion about his ship, but when he first arrived at camp he’s like, plagued with them? Meanwhile Festus has started loosing his shit and no one can control him but Leo does. He saves the dragon and then the dragon shows him bunker 9. And he’s like well shit. And he was going to show it to cabin 9 but that night he had a dream featuring his old Babysitter. Who reveals herself to be Hera. She tells him to build that dream ship and he’s like you’re crazy? But she tells him that the goddess who killed his mother is rising, and this is his chance to stop her. So he plans out and starts building the Argo 2 IN SECRET for several months before going missing. Piper found out about it but he swore her to secrecy. She tells everyone else after the quest. He already built the power sources and figured out how to make it fly and some of the other complicated stuff. And they have all of his (insane) blueprints. So they’re able to finish the ship without him.

Imagine ending the first book with like “here’s the missing kids secret lair. This is the work of a madman/ genius. And then the next book opens to his POV. And you’re like ok he can’t get more insane and then you find out he’s a fire user?? Which no one knew in the first book? Like man this kid is packing some secrets but he doesn’t remember and of his secrets lol.

Hera should have been way pettier with Gaea. She should have been like ‘you think you’re the mother? No, I’M the mother now.’ She should have bothered her more, heckled her a little, had some fun with it, rubbed it in her face more.

All this to say that Hazel and Leo should have been the ones swapped in the camp exchange, because they were the ones Gaea feared most.

"Impertinent isn't a 12 year old word" TO YOU. It's not a typical word in a 12 year old's vocabulary.

But Percy isn't an average 12 years old. He's smart. He's beyond average smart. The only reason why he sucks at school is because they don't accommodate his dyslexia and ADHD, and even then he managed to get good enough grades to be accepted into a university after missing most of his 11th grade.

And to really nail down this point, please look at this quote:

The main reason why a huge part of the fandom thinks Percy is stupid is because some characters (cleary not our queen Sally Jackson) talk down to him, call him stupid, encourage others to make jokes about him being stupid etc. We should recognize that those dialogues are not a reflection of Percy, but of what those characters think about Percy and Percy's non-existant self esteem.

(I haven’t read ToA. I know some of what happened but all I’m acknowledging is that they canonically broke up)

I just love drama tbh but ALSO I think it could make sense. Like, they both loved Leo so much. Like they dated each other but they both refer to Leo as their best friend, not each other. After his “death” they share their mourning at first but… the stages of grief get a little ugly. And they were Up There With Him. The survivors guilt…

They’re growing a part and stewing in their grief and guilt and then they have this huge ugly fight. They end of blaming each other for the exact thing they feel most guilty about. Jason brings up that she basically told them that one of them would die, which is what lead to Leo making his crazy plan in the first place. Piper shoots back that Leo did it to save Jason, and what did Jason do with that information?? What did HE do to protect Leo??

And the truth is Piper was doing her best to protect them both. This is WHY she carries the physician’s cure. Or thinks she does. And Jason, honestly, just assumed it would be him. His whole life he’s been told he’s meant for great things, placed above everyone else but also Burdened With It. Like Percy, he’s been asked to do the impossible again and again. Fight sea monsters, Titans, lead armies, becoming praetor at 15. And Jason loves Leo. He knows he would die for him. It never occurs to him that Leo is spending every day planning and planning so that Jason doesn’t have to be that hero. So that Jason doesn’t have to sacrifice himself. Leo DECIDED it would be him before Jason ever got the chance.

But they both feel so so guilty and can’t admit to themselves or each other that they thinks their best friends death is their fault. So they blame each other and go full angry exes that don’t talk to each other. Their friends are worried but can’t get them to budge.

Anyway flash forward to Leo’s return and he’s like BESTIES I MISSED YOU and is hit with the two biggest sobbing messes. Piper and Jason mutually silently agree to avoid talking about the break up as much as possible and also to avoid each other while also spending as much time with Leo as possible. Obviously Leo eventually realizes that his two best friends aren’t spending any time with each other if one of them is basically always with him but never at the same time.

He figured out they broke up and yells at them for blaming each other (It was MY heroic awesome genuis sacrifice why are dumb asses blaming each other?!) and then they team up and yell at him for not telling them his plan and blowing himself up (THEY WATCHED HIM GET BLOWN UP) and disappearing for months and breaking their hearts. And then they all cry and apologize and are besties for real again.

(Jasipereo bonus if you ship them: Piper and Jason in unison blurt out and admit that they’re in love with him, hence the heart breaking, and then stare at each other until they start laughing. Meanwhile Leo pinches himself repeatedly bc he’s obviously dreaming-)

Also this could’ve been a really interesting aspect to explore in the Frank and Leo department. I’m going to contradict myself with the “Frank was tied to Jupiter” bc I’m remembering he was super new there too and was basically just friends with Hazel. Like he was friendly with the rest of the court but… Hazel is his only real friend.

So… neither of them had much time to connect with their camps. And Leo never recovered from his Mother’s death, Frank just lost his… like the only people they’re close to just… in general, are on this boat. Idk. They should’ve been so close by the end of the quest.

Still thinking about how Leo is the only one of the seven who doesn’t really have ties outside of the quest.

Hear me out. Percy and Piper both still have a solid human life to go back too. Annabeth too although I’d say she’s more tied to camp half blood.

Frank and and Hazel both really care about camp Jupiter despite not having been there long. Jason actually feels very closely tied to both camps which causes him conflict. He seems to think he doesn’t know where he belongs but he DOES feel connected to both places.

Leo though… he’s a BIT attached to camp half blood. Not as much as the others tho. I don’t have my copy of MoA rn so I can’t find text support but I’m pretty sure there’s a part in his POV where he talks about it too. He was at Bunker 9 significantly more than the camp. It’s actually so so impressive he manages to pull his irresponsible goofball act off as much as he does. Cause like this dude WORKED. He built an impossible magic ship in like six months. I’m pretty sure there’s a part where it’s mentioned even HE doesn’t totally understand the magic power my the ship. Bonkers.

So anyway he isn’t that connected to his human life (because it burned in a dumpster fire) and he’s not that connected to camp half blood. But WAY more than the rest of the 7 he is connected to this quest. He’s literally been dreaming about this ship since he was a kid that he would one day build for there people. I think the bonds between the seven could’ve been more built up in general but I gotta say Leo has some STRONG connections compared to the rest. Jason and piper are obvious that’s literally what I made this blog about years ago.

But the rest too. He doesn’t talk with Annabeth much but they do have this interesting relationship of ship builder/commander and quest leader also both being absolute geniuses. Like the only ones who can even Kind of keep up with each other there’s a lot of mutual respect (and fear he is a bit scared of her but that’s just smart). Percy and Leo are interesting bc in theory they have so much in common but one of the only deeepish conversations the have is about Calypso?? BUT his extreme guilt when Percy and Annabeth are in Tarturus bc he thinks he traded them for Frank and Hazel??

Yeah let’s talk about Frank and Hazel. I’m ignoring the love triangle bc I don’t care for it and it’s irrelevant to what I’m talking about. Hazel and Leo have the obvious connection of Leo grandfather being Sammy but ALSO the thing we don’t talk about enough is how both of the childhoods were defined by this quest more than anyone else. Gae interfered with both of them HEAVILY and they both suffered for it, AND carry huge amounts of guilt for what she manipulated them into doing.

And then one of the most underrated friendships that is Leo and Frank. Because Frank’s one weakness is fire and Leo IS FIRE. Like they are each others worst god damn fear. Leo REALLY fears the consequences of his destructive powers which is something he has to learn to work past and Frank really fears his mortality BECAUSE HE HAS TO CARRY IT AROUKD WITH HIM SO VALID. Trusting each other is like confronting those fears… (ok so maybe it wasn’t done that well in canon but that’s not the point).

ANYWAY what’s crazy is I don’t think anyone else really realizes this. Like Leo’s whole woo is me I’m the seventh wheel thing seems really self pitying but… you could argue that everyone on the ship was more invested in someone else on board and on their lives outside of the quest. Like, this is Leo’s life. And he’s their side character (i don’t think this is actually true at all for Jason and Piper but he doesn’t know that ugh). His character is so crazy to me.
