had a lot going on with my latest dunmesh fic and wanted to share some of my thoughts here! ♥️✨️

So in Dungeon Meshi, dwarf names are based on gems, metals, and minerals, so Namari = lead, Daya = diamond, and then Cobre = copper! yay world building!!

I originally had Kabru say "several generations" here, but as the families in question are dwarves, it really wouldn't have even been a full generation when the issue in question had been officially resolved, hence, only a generation

Also, Sadena is one of the named dwarven cities that most closely borders the region where the majority of gnomes live on the Eastern Continent. yay more world building!!!

Dragon Age fans might recognize this as being loosely based on that one side quest in Origins, where two dwarven families were deceptively given the same deed for the same property. Hopefully it was just an honest mistake here!

I'm sure Senshi is crying somewhere as Laios cuts into the bread before giving it enough time to cool 😭 Generally, you should give bread about 30 min-1 hour to give it time to finish baking internally; this leads to a much flakier, crisp result. But it's sooo hard to resist fresh, warm bread, and Laios has a Kabru to feed!!

(no anecdotes i just really liked this line ♥️✨️)

So I really challenged myself to make my voice for Laios sound distinct from my voice for Kabru, and I ended up breaking a lot of personal writing rules in the meantime, haha. With Laios, I stuck to more casual, informal language, used more adverbs, italics, and ellipses, made less of a point to mitigate repeated words, and applied a generous, generous spread of exclamation points. "?!" my most loathed ...

Originally, I had Laios using succubus saliva, however I have a plan for another fic involving succubi and didn't want to double dip 💖 I also just loved writing Laios getting to demonstrate his intelligence and continuing to use his knowledge of monsters to help people 🥺♥️

(i imagine kabru's internal reaction here looking like something close to those crazy reaction edits in those indian soap operas haha)

So this was a really sweet moment to write for Laios, but I just can't help but laugh at the image of Kabru being surprised one night with Laios having brought all his friends from all four corners of the world to sit Kabru down in the hot seat all night for what essentially amounts to an intervention about his poor diet. Only ever the best of intentions, that Laios!!

OK im kinda done writing abt my personal understanding of this one specific aspect of dungeon meshis ending.. except not really and ended up turning it into bullet points and sticking the necessary panels under them so its not super thorough or concise or how i initially wanted this post to be BUT WELL i dont really want to spend anymore time on this 😭 so yayyyy 😇✌️

the specific aspect is about falin's resurrection and how she was able to come back to life in the ending when that shouldnt be possible.. basically my personal theory/understanding/reading of this is that the falin we see in the ending is a copy, and the real falin is dead 👍 the reason i think this is bc:

> the dead can be brought back to life in dunmesh's universe, but only under specific conditions;

> so what does it mean to truly be dead then? the answer: being dead (impossible to resurrect) in dunmesh's universe means being eaten and becoming nourishment for other creatures. this is why falin's body was eaten in the ending; to permanently get rid of the dragon part of her

> "to live is to eat and to be dead is to be eaten, and that which is eaten/taken/stolen cannot be returned" is a recurring theme in dungeon meshi

> and yet falin, who was eaten, was revived. this shouldnt be possible

> marcille resurrected falin using dungeon magic, later revealed to be the winged lion's magic; which means the ritual marcille conducted would have the same limitations as the winged lion's powers

> and a limitation of the winged lion is that it cannot return that which has been eaten, which explains why it couldnt have just continuously conjure up desires for it to eat

> this also explains why the winged lion would offer to create copies of people's loved ones rather than revive them (the body of marcille's dad wouldve been decomposed by now (eaten by fungi/plantlife), and the winged lion was about to eat chilchuck's family)

> and creating copies of other people is very much within the winged lion's abilities, the people dont even need to be eaten/dead for the winged lion to create copies of them

> with all of this is mind... i dont think that marcille revived falin during that ritual, but had instead harnessed the dungeon's/winged lion's powers to create a copy of falin. this would explain why falin has an abundance of mana upon resurrection, which is something we havent seen with any other standard resurrections

> and why the winged lion is there with falin as she is being revived for the final time: because falin is, in a sense, essentially just a manifestation of the winged lion (her flesh is dragon, a creature born from the winged lion's mana, and the ritual that created her had harnessed the winged lion's powers)

> also something something marcille and laios both became dungeon lords, meaning they both had immense access to the winged lion's powers, and they both deeply desired for falin to be alive and human. the copy of marcille's dad was shoddy bc marcille's memories of him are from the pov of a child, but laios and marcille combined have known falin for nearly her entire life. if a copy of falin was created and was modelled after the memories that marcille and laios had of her, could anyone tell the difference?

i feel like utter shit wow

with two days since i finished the fangame, im actually starting to think i have some withdrawal symptoms because of Pokémon, because fuck it let's be real, nothing matters to me except Pokémon when I play Pokémon

im not in touch with the real world when im playing pokémon, like not at all, it's a fucking vicious circle

feels bad -> plays Pokémon -> feels good but doesn't do anything else -> finishes the game -> real life comes back -> feels bad

im just gonna re-read a fic that got a new chapter today after two years of nothing, because it's a cozy fic and i dont feel like my usual dead doves will help me tonight

also, i ate at 5pm lol, fuckin slept my whole day away. but the dungeon meshi episode was fine ig, im still pokémon wired rn so idc

yeah, this dunmesh episode was pretty slow... they can't all be action-packed, and I kinda like that the "normal" meal was so much sadder and more boring bc of the lack of care and prep, but I hope it's more exciting next week. catgirl incoming soon tho!!

I fixed my fridge!!!!!!!!!! super proud of myself :33333 AND went to the store to restock on the same day!! that felt nice.

I woke up randomly at 4am last night, and I've found that I won't be able to go back to sleep unless I get up and do something first, so I was strangely productive in the middle of the damn night- I even showered LMAO. but now I'm TIREDDDDDD 😭😭😭 gonna try n nap this afternoon

routine vet visit tomorrow, gotta get out the cat carrier :/ I love my babies but they're Heavy and a Pain to take on the bus ://///
