https://www.dwell.com/article/spears-building-loft-ravi-raj-rarara-evan-watts-danda-ba4118c0?utm_source=Dwell&utm_campaign=670bd128dc-EMAIL_DAILYDOSE_20201210&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_4c4807afd1-670bd128dc-173559470
This West Chelsea loft shines with a pared-back palette of bleached walnut and exposed brick.
beautiful brick walls and piers and beams - iconic old New York loft space
enviable features = exposed brick walls and heavy timber structural beams; historic details = oversized openings and thick masonry bearing walls
brick conveys storied history: building started life as a cigarette packing facility, then became a furniture warehouse in the 1920s
previous design decisions: the living area’s dropped ceiling awkwardly wrapped the structural framework. Concrete floors tipped too industrial for the owners, who have children. A heavy beam bisecting the fireplace wall distorted the room’s scale, competing with the soaring ceilings rather than accentuating them, and the in-wall AC units were an eyesore
fixes: extended the fireplace column to the ceiling to highlight the room’s expansive scale, and had it coated in concrete plaster;  new HVAC system fills the space between the brick columns at the windows = more graceful, streamlined treatment than in-wall units; pulled away ceiling for grid of scarred wood beams and cast-iron brackets to better emphasize generous ceiling height; Marble covers the backsplash, and new upper cabinets inset with fluted glass were added
Floor-to-ceiling shelves and storage bookend a cabinet that conceals the television
as we added more space, we kept natural light
The new layout better balances the public and private wings of the loft, retaining the coveted openness that lofts promise with more intimate areas that can let family members get away.
bathroom layout was reconfigured for more privacy, and wrapped in honed beige marble; tub backdrop is composed of bamboo-cut textured marble tile - waterfall effect when lights turned on; upper portion of the walls were finished in waterproof tadelakt, which meets the marble slabs in a pleasing datum line carried around the entire room

Some of the horses and burros here at RTF's American Wild Horse Sanctuary have already lived long lives, while others are at the beginning of their Life's journey. Young Fuego—photo Irene Vejar
We are all born at different times, opening our eyes on a world new to us, but already ancient in its history. The same is true for the horses and burros here at RTF's American Wild Horse Sanctuary. Some have already lived long lives, while others are at the beginning of their Life's journey. Old and young share this refuge, roaming the same pastures and hills, sharing generational history. We learn from all of them, and these very social beings learn from each other every day, all day long. The most senior resident is Peru, the youngest is Fuego. Although they appeared at different times and places, they are equally members of the Horse Nation which began so very long ago, right here on the North American continent. Young Fuego Dorado (Golden Fire), was born August 1, 2017, a day when a downed power line caused a small fire at the sanctuary. No animals or people were hurt that day, but the little horse gained a lifetime name which well suits his fiery spirit. Fuego is a charismatic and handsome Cerbat/Sulphur colt. His sire (father), Amante, is the sanctuary's only 100% pure Cerbat, originating with the Spanish horses that were 'liberated' by the Apaches. Fuego's mother, Stella, is a beautiful grullo (steel gray) Sulphur mare who is part of Amante's band of mares. Although we use fertility control, Stella is a non responder and every few years she may foal. This intelligent youngster has a strong personality and is very curious about everything around him. He's becoming more mischievous by the day. With his sister Amber, he is the insistent little brother, always trying to get her to play. But most of all he likes to pester his amazing father, Amante, who spends a lot of time playing with Fuego, preparing his son to one day use these same antics in battle with other stallions when competing for mares and territory. Fuego absolutely loves people and attention. He likes being caressed all over his face, and like his dad Amante, likes to rest his head on your shoulder. Although he has moments of rambunctiousness, when he is around people he has a very serene, calm disposition, again very much like his father, who seems to thoroughly enjoy his son. Then there is old gentleman Peru. Peru is approximately 41 years old. A Peruvian Paso, he was living here when the ranch was purchased by the DeMayo family in 1998. Peru was going to be taken to the local auction by the sellers, but we said 'no way!' We can only imagine all he has seen in his long life, which continues here happily, only with your support.
Elder Statesman Peru—photo Paloma Ianes
Peru has played an important role at RTF. Along with Serena, a beautiful Hart Mountain mare, he helped to educate two orphan foals, Briante and Dolly, in important herd etiquette. Thanks to Peru, they got a solid start in their young lives. It's now up to us and our loyal supporters to make sure their lives are long, secure and happy. I hope you'll help, as you always have in the past. Our loyal Peru has also helped gather injured horses, and for many years was a perfect teacher for the kids that visit RTF, always reliable and safe, letting them groom him and get up close to a horse, often for the first time in their young lives. The other day, Peru even picked up a speedy little trot to get to his special food, a welcome sign in a horse his age. He is typically upright and at attention, radiating dignity. He still enjoys being scratched and brushed, but was most devoted to his senior pasture mates like Cayuse, the first stallion to arrive at Return to Freedom's sanctuary with his harem band- from Hart Mountain Oregon, when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was removing all wild horses in 1998. Sadly, since we began writing this story, Cayuse, now in his thirties, passed away of natural causes. It is always sad to lose any of the resident horses or burros, but when a a foundational member of our sanctuary leaves, all the memories are so bittersweet. Musing upon the lives of the horses always leads to thinking of our own…and how as the horses inspire us as symbols of freedom and independence, at the same time they depend upon us to fight for their right to keep those treasures. As I look out at these horses, I'm amazed at how young and old, horse and human, have come together to accomplish this vital mission, and that you found and joined with us to make it happen. There is no doubt we could not do it without you—I hope you will help today to keep it going. I wish there were words beyond just 'thank you', that meant much more than that. I hope you know how deeply all of us at Return to Freedom appreciate your help—we simply cannot provide this kind of care without your support. Here's to the wild ones and those, like you, who stand up for them.

The 2020 Bucks County Ancestry Fair is now History!
The Bookends of Liberty:
300 Years of the Growth of Freedom in North America
Virtual Conference November 7, 2020
Freedom Books
The 2020 Ancestry Fair of the Bucks County Genealogical Society commemorated the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Compact and the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States with The Bookends of Liberty: 300 Years of the Growth of Freedom in North America. Our program covered the unique opportunities and challenges the records of these events present for genealogists as well as the social history of these two important milestones. In 1620, the Pilgrims founded Plymouth Colony in present-day Massachusetts. Before formally disembarking from their ship, the passengers drafted an agreement for governing their settlement. Known today as the Mayflower Compact, this brief document–less than 200 words–was an important milestone in government. The first constitution of modern times, it established a tradition of democratic self-government under the rule of law for the New World. In 1802, John Quincy Adams called it “the only instance, in human history, of that positive, original social compact, which…philosophers have imagined as the only legitimate source of government.”
For all its foresight, the Mayflower Compact did not establish comprehensive liberties. It excluded women and indentured servants. It failed to preclude the practice of slavery, which would be introduced into the North American colonies in 1619. The Mayflower Compact might best be considered the opening chapter in a centuries-long effort to extend civil liberties to all. In 1776 and 1787, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution respectively articulated an expanded vision of liberty and self-determination. In the 300 years following the Compact, full civil rights and the electoral franchise were extended in turn to all “freemen,” to emancipated slaves, and to new immigrants. The final chapter, the extension of those privileges to women, came with the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920.
The Bookends of Liberty: 300 Years of the Growth of Freedom in North America featured David Allen Lambert and Gena Philibert-Ortega, both nationally renowned experts in these subject areas.
Registration for the 2020 Bucks County Ancestry Fair opened on October 1. Cost of admission was $25.00, payable by Paypal or credit card only.

1887-1986
One of the largest makers of handmade glass ware in the United States, The Fostoria Glass Company dates back to December 15, 1887 in Fostoria, Ohio. Four years later they moved their pressed glass factory to Moundsville, West Virginia. By 1925 the company expanded to five furnaces and a number of specialty shops. Fostoria remained in Moundsville until closing nearly a century later in l986.
Fostoria is best known for high quality tableware and stemware including clear, colored, etched, gilded, lustered, and pressed items. In 1915, the company began producing their American Pattern tableware -- probably the most popular pattern ever produced. In 1924, they were the first glass manufacturer to start a national advertising campaign. In addition to producing fine lamps and blown, etched and pressed glassware, Fostoria also produced a wide variety of fine glass animals and figurines.
In the years between World War I and World War II, Fostoria, along with other glass manufacturers (Heisey, Cambridge and New Martinsville) created a number of glass animals and bookends for the decorative accessories market, in response to the growing craze for glass animals.

Terms Of Service
Selling on eBay has been our primary focus since 1998. We uphold and instill the value of treating all of our customers as if they are family.
Our company motto is to “Be courteous, promptly answer e-mails, be fair in all our dealings, and try and make friends of each and every customer.”
Unfortunately, in today’s market with eBay’s rating system and the never ending rate increases in the U.S. Postal & other carrier rates, we need to define and explain our methods of business.
ONE – Who We Deal With
We sell and ship worldwide to anywhere, so please email us for a quote to wherever you happen to be.
TWO – Tracking
We are required to put tracking on every package, even if it raises the cost of shipping it.
THREE – Shipping Charges
We charge shipping based on the USPS system. We will sometimes ship via courier if we can get it to you within the same time frame or faster. We add a reasonable cost for materials and handling. Our materials cost is based on exactly what it has cost us to wrap similar sized items in the past. We realize that almost everything we sell is valuable to you and there is nothing worse than having something break in its final journey to your hands. We do our best to percent properly and use the correct materials to protect your win. If we are able to get the item to you for less than our quote we will refund the difference to you!
For oversized items or items that will take special attention to package, (building a crate, wrapping many small items individually, etc.), we ask you to email us for a quote on shipping prior to the auction ending. If you do not, we charge the same amount as if you did.
FOUR – International Shipping
We charge shipping based on the USPS international system. The rates follow the same guidelines as number three above, though for international customers we add an additional $1.00 to cover the extra paperwork involved in international shipping. If an amount goes over $100 in value we will only ship it with Priority or Express Mail, regardless how small an item. That allows for us to have international tracking. We have to include tracking even on First Class Mail, so we can not just throw something in an envelope and stick a stamp on it.
FIVE – Insurance
eBay’s policies no longer allows us to charge the client for insurance. However… we still apply insurance to any item that goes over $27.00 in value. We reserve the right to use the insurance carrier of our choice. Sometimes that is Postal or the Carrier’s Insurance and sometimes that is a personal insurance company such as DSI or U-PIC/Shipsurance. If we use a personal insurance company the package will not be marked insured, though it will be covered.
SIX – Methods of Payment Accepted
We abide by eBay’s rules and try and stay abreast of their changes. We accept Paypal. Paypal also accepts the major credit cards, or we also take Credit Cards Directly over the phone, (MC, VISA, DISCOVER, AMERICAN EXPRESS, CARTE BLANCHE, DINERS CLUB, JCB) Bottom line, whatever method is most convenient for you.
SEVEN – Time Frame To Pay
We ask all auctions to be paid for in the fastest possible time frame. (This is all we do for a living and we need the money to pay the bills and buy more unique and fun items to put up on eBay). If an item goes unpaid we report the transaction to eBay to recover our fees, this counts as a strike against the winning bidder unless they step forward and pay.
EIGHT – Shipping Time Frame
We make every effort to ship in a timely manner. We are listing tons of items, and are just plain swamped, so we have to schedule a different time to percent and ship. We ship on a primary paid, first shipped basis. (We do not ship any item until it has been paid and the funds have cleared.) With the ebb and flow of payments we manage to get everything out of the door within one week. If there is a rush, we will make every effort to work with you in getting it out of the door faster. As you can see from our feedback, we do not disappoint. OF COURSE, items that need special attention, crating, etc adds to the time frame of those items.
NINE – Local Pickup
Sometimes it makes sense to come by and pickup your items. Sometimes an item is just too big for any other option. If you’ve arranged local pickup with us, you must pickup the item within 30 days otherwise it will be subject to storage fees and/or relisting. Storage fees for items begin one month after being won, and the fee consists of $5 per item or 10% of the value, whichever is greater, each month it is stored. If the storage of the item exceeds eleven months or exceeds the overall purchase value, the item will be ours to resell in order to recover the storage fees.
TEN – Communication
Please feel free to contact us at anytime, with any question or comment. Unless we are out of town, we make an effort to answer all emails as quickly as possible.
