RIP Irish Grinstead of 90's R&B girl group 702

June 2, 1980 - September 16, 2023

December 2022, Irish took a medical leave from 702 to address a serious undisclosed medical condition that took her life yesterday.

On Saturday (September 16, 2023) Grinstead’s sister and fellow group member, Lemisha Grinstead, took to Instagram where she informed fans of the tragic news.

“It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend has passed away this evening,” she wrote. “She has had a long battle and she is finally at peace. That girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside, but also within. Sharing the stage with her was a joy I will cherish for the rest of my life! We, the family ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family.”

SIDE FACTS:

- 702 made a cameo appearance in Aaliyah's "If Your Girl Only Knew" music video.

- The song "Where My Girls At" was originally offered to TLC for the "Fan Mail" album, but TLC passed on the song.

- 702 was named after the area code of their hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.
