The Scruff - Article and Interview

On the Friday of Leeds festival 2018 I was lucky enough to be passing by the BBC introducing stage at exactly the right time. Hot off the back of a blinding DMAS set I heard that old familiar indie rock n roll sound coming off the stage.

So we head over and get ourselves a nice spot tucked in close to the front, obviously with enough place to dance. Although it was the busiest I've seen the BBC Introducing Stage in all my FIVE years at going to Bramham Park.

So The Scruff is this smartly dressed four pice band from Bedford with a big attitude on stage, from big bouncing "Bricks and Bottles" tune that makes you dance even when you don't want to, to he highly relatable "Her" which made the BBC introducing track of the week as well as This Feeling Radio X track of the week.

The Scruff show absolutely no signs of slowing down, just coming off a 3 month tour with over 40 shows including some of the biggest festivals in the country these lads are the definition of go big or go home.

Sam took time out of his busy schedule to have a chat with me over Instagram:

Q:How long have yous guys know each other?

A:Omar and Adam went to school together and I (Sam) met them shortly after and jack joined us about a year ago.

Q: Who inspired you to become musicians?

A: Well I'm going to say Adam and Omar inspired me to be a musician because they forced me to get a bass guitar and learn to play it. It just seemed like the best way to spend more time together and turns out it’s something that we love to do!

Q: What was the first festival you went to before you played them?

A: Adam went to Reading when he was younger. I think mine was outlook in Croatia. Omar always vowed that he wouldn’t hit a major festival until he was playing at one and that box got ticked this year!

Q: Describe The Scruff in three words?

A: Loud, lively, real

Q: What's the most rock and roll thing you've ever done?

A:If we told you that we’d probably go to jail…

Q: What's the best song you've ever seen live?

A:There is a song by Gentlemans Dub Club called ‘high grade’ and when the brass comes in... It goes off. So much fun!

Q:What was the first CD you bought and the first album you downloaded/bought?

A: ‘A grand dont come for free’ was the first CD I bought with my own money. I rinsed LimeWire when I was younger and managed to ruin a few computers. Fuck knows what the first one was. Probably Kano. 😂

Q: What's been the highlight from the summer?

A:Playing Reading & Leeds. Without a doubt. What a great experience!

Q: What's next for The Scruff?

A:New single drops in a few weeks and then it’s probably time we cracked on with our debut album due out next year ;)
