New Skill Series - Crochet Part 3
Hello Hello Everyone!
It's Friday! This not only means that the weekened is soon upon us, but that it's New Skill Series day!馃コ馃コ Today I'm going to show you the results of lesson 3: Double Crochet, learnt via this video.
As mentioned last week, I ended up going up a hook size to a 6.0mm hook and it worked a lot better than the 5.5mm hook I'd been using previously. I found that with the bigger hook, it was easier to get the tension right so it's probably that my previous tension issue was due to hook size. Who'd've known.
I'm not sure if it was the bigger hook or the stitch itself but double crochet is my favourite stitch so far. It was really easy for me to pick up and from beginning to end I didn't have any problems. I was also better able to see the stitches, but again, that could've been a hook size problem.

I think it looks pretty good! Excited to learn Triple Crochet next!

New Skill Series - Crochet Part 4
Hi Everyone!
It's the weekend! But! Before we go off to relax, have fun, do chores or whatever your plans are, it's New Skill Series time! Today we're talking about Crochet Lesson 4: Triple Crochet, learnt via this video.
I had a lot of fun with this one! Don't get me wong, Double Crochet is still my favourite stitch. However I found Triple crochet almost as easy as DC and I'm kinda sad that the video mentioned this stitch isn't used very often cause I think it looks cool!

Also this was the first time i was able to easily and intuitively darn in my edges and if I'm honestly TC nearly bumped DC off as my favourite stitch for this along. I will most definitely look for at least one project in the future that utilises triple crochet so I don't forget this lovely stitch!

New Skill Series - Crochet Part 2
Hello Hello!
Today we continue learning how to crochet! Lesson 2 was learning Half Double Crochet(HDC) using this video.
I made my piece smaller than the video both for speed and practicality reasons. If you think you need a lot of practice, I would say go the same size as video or bigger, whereas if you're feeling more confident then you can go smaller like I did.
I got a bit confused on the first row of HDC, if you look carefully you can see the hole I was too tired to redo, but after that I think I hit my stride and was fairly good at it. I also messed up my first turning chain so the edge at the bottom is not square at all馃槅馃檲
I realised about half way through the video that my yarn is too big for my hook (馃槄馃檲) so I'll be using either a 6 or 6.5 mm hook in future as opposed to the 5.5mm I'm using now. For now we're stuck with my oversized/tight/slight confused/squashed looking crochet馃き
I also found, personally, that it's harder to get tension right with crochet as opposed to knitting. Multiple times here I found myself undoing and redoing stitches cause I got the tension wrong and they were too tight.
I banged this out in like 30 mins at almost midnight cause I realised a week had passed without me trying lesson 2. However, all in all, I don't think I did terrible and I think I got it on the last row.
