I was just thinking about the act of thinking like, i've been told some people just have a voice in their head and it's like they're narrating to themselves and their thoughts have a logical progression and it seems like they take a thought from start to end Whereas like, bitches like me, we have relationship issues and communication problems because I like, listen I blurt out the end of the thought without any of the process I get to like, this is the conclusion I have come to four conversations ago, and we've been past that for about an hour and yet I'm still marinating and it's bounced around in my head from one thought to the next and there's no voice, there's like a wall of text, a waterfall of text and after a bit my brain just goes "oh, here's your conclusion by the way, the answer is banana hammock" and I'm like what the fuck, where did that come from but also that makes sense so I'll be sitting there talking to my girlfriends and I'll say "banana hammock" like it solves all of the fucking problems when we've moved conversations to like, actual real life information and deep relationship shit where we're all talking about our real fears of being forgotten or glossed over or taken for granted and my dumb ass fucking spectacularly, magnificently uncoordinated buttock destroying brain will just go "oh, by the way banana hammock" and then move on like that's supposed to make sense I have no idea how my partners put up with me, let alone my friends, I swear to fuckin whatever god

The association with Jake makes this a good companion to Cronus's headscars, which form the jagged SS of the Schutzstaffel emblem. But in the same way that ICP being the alchemical fusion of Laurel & Hardy with Hitler was a way of encoding black culture as an Evil corrosive influence, I think this moment may be a homophobic (slash misogynistic?) encoding of Jake's adoption of a feminine signifier as evil, corrosive -- in addition to comparing himself to Jolie, it's the first mention of Jake's interest in shorter shorts, the apotheosis being the banana hammock that triggers Jade's traumatic memories and/or homophobia (or perhaps her trauma is just an unknowing cohort to the narration's homophobic spin? I'm honestly still somewhat murky on the extent to which this aspect of the metanarrative flows back into character psychology).

On FFXIV pants are only for those above level 30, at least that is what most people experience if not a caster. But the good part is that the Skimpy style is equal among male and female. If it is skimpy or full covering on one, with some minor exceptions, it is the same on the other.

The skimpiness being gender balanced in FFXIV is what a lot of folk have been filling my ask box with, yeah. My chain mail banana hammocks remark was mostly intended as a general trope joke, not specific to this game in particular.That said, I still want pants. It's less a matter of "my character model is being objectified for eye candy" and more "I want a proper set of trousers" for its own sake. I mean, really, running around in a micro miniskirt, half bodice/half tube top, and leggings with thigh-baring gaps makes me think my character is so poor starting off that she had to sell her actual clothes for enough Gil to buy the carriage ticket into the game. That, or she was at a really hot party the night before and woke up in the opening narration with a hangover.
