Ch. 35: Scott

WARNING: This chapter is about being held captive. There's is one slap and some swearing, but other than that, that's it. If that is a trigger, please don't read.

You moaned as you struggled to open your eyes and you tried to move your hands and feet, but realized they were tied.

"Fuck," you say as your eyes started to clear and your head started to hurt. Thankfully your mouth wasn't covered, but you were in the middle of nowhere, so who would hear you?

You looked down and saw you were tied to a chair in a room that held a single bed and one single bulb lit up the room. You faced a closed door.

Scott had taken off your jacket and boots and found all of your weapons. You sigh, wondering how long you'd been out.

Just then, you see the doorknob turn, the door open and Scott came walking in.

"How was your nap?"

"Where am I?"

"You're in the wrong situation to be asking me questions, Y/N. Let's try this again. How was your nap?"

Your eyes opened wide in shock from his response. This wasn't the Scott you knew. "Fine, for being forced to nap."

He grinned evilly. "Well, then to answer your question, somewhere no one will find you."

Realization hit you. "You sent me the text."

"Isn't technology grand?"

"Why are you doing this?"

"I'm taking what is mine."

Puzzled, you look at him. "What are you talking about?"

"You, Y/N. You should be mine." His blue eyes started looking crazy. "You should be married to me! I've failed and mother is not happy."

You just look at him. "Your mother?"

"I was hidden. The bastard. Christian was the Golden child."

Your eyes get wide. "What?!"

"She had an affair. That's why they divorced. She was pregnant with me."

"Holy shit. You mean, Celine," you say as the realization really hit you.

"Christian joined the military to get away from everything. He wasn't supposed to fall in love. He was supposed to die and leave us everything!"

Appalled by his statement, you look at him. "You were trying to kill Christian? I'm sure if you would've just talked to him..."

"Talk to Christian?" he scoffed. "His dad had him so controlled."

You shook your head. "No. Christian wasn't like that."

"How would you know? You only knew him for 3 weeks before you married him, and he was gone a majority of your marriage!" He threw his hands around. "And then you got pregnant with little Christian." He looked at you angrily. "That ended everything, so Mother came up with the plan for me to marry you."

"Scott. Still. This isn't right."

"How the fuck do you know what's right? You go on vacation and get married a week after meeting a guy! What does he have that I don't?"

You stare him dead in the eyes. "Jake has confidence, compassion, understanding, but most of all a heart full of love."

Scott stepped toward you and slapped you so hard your head turned. "I could've given you all of that!" He left the room, slamming the door behind him.

Sitting in the kitchen and the island, Sheila looked at her watch and then at Montgomery. It was almost eleven at night. "Shouldn't Y/N be home by now?"

Trying not to show concern, he answered. "I would think so."

Sheila's phone rang and she looked at it. It was Jake. She looked at Montgomery, showing him the phone and then answered it. "Hey, son!"

"Momma. How are you?"

"Good, you?"

"I'm fine. Listen. I tried calling Y/N, but it kept going to her voicemail. That's not like her."

"Oh, she's in bed honey. She wasn't feeling too well."

"Really?" Jake questioned. "Oh, well, I was calling to tell her I was coming home for Christmas."

"Oh, Jakey! She's going to be so happy! I'd wake her, but she really needs some rest."

"Okay. Well, tell her I called."

"I will son. Love you!"

"Love you too."

Sheila looked at Montgomery. "Jake knows something is up."

Montgomery picked up his phone and dialed a number.

Jake looked at Phoenix after he hung up with his mom. "Something is wrong. If you tried and I tried and she's not answering, something is wrong."

"Agreed. I've known Y/N for twenty years. She's never not had her phone on in case of emergencies."

"Good thing this mission is done. Hopefully we can catch an earlier flight home when we reach land."

TeamE83Liz's Behavior Is Concerning

One of the more mentally unstable When Calls The Heart fans, TeamE83Liz (who's deleted and created so many new accounts by this point she's had almost a dozen different names) is giving off some real serial killer vibes. I'm sorry if that sounds hyperbolic or extreme, but I can't think of any other way to describe this.

I've been informed that she's made two new Instagram accounts (although one of them appears to have been deleted already) and was trying to pretend to be someone else, but kept leaving the same creepy, stalkerish comments on Erin Krakow's profile (vaguely calling her a whore, saying she's going to hell for being in a relationship with Ben, getting really angry any time Erin posted photos of herself with friends etc.) that several people could tell right away it was her.

I really don't understand this mindset. TeamE83Liz is still frothing at the mouth because people on Twitter are saying mean things about the fictional character Elizabeth, but doesn't at all see a problem with saying reprehensible stuff about real people and leaving hateful comments on their social media pages.

Also, this "Erin laughed at a Starbucks employee for misspelling her name" is something I can't find. She hasn't touched Twitter in a long time and I checked her latest Instagram posts and didn't see this. If someone can show me what this is referencing I would appreciate it. I have a feeling this is something buried in an Instagram post from several years ago and was lighthearted and not anything malicious.

This is something I've noticed every time TeamE83Liz deletes one of her accounts and makes a new one with a new name. She gets butthurt that she doesn't have a lot of followers. She is never able to make the connection that each time she deletes her accounts the followers she has are not going to automatically follow the next one she makes. I don't know if this is tech illiteracy or Main Character Syndrome or if she's just stupid.

More whining about being blocked, zero reflection on what she does to cause people to block her.

This woman, who it sounds like is hurtling towards middle age, spends a solid 3 months out of the year sick at the thought of adults who have their lives together and are productive members of society being in a relationship and building families.

Liz, if you ever end up reading this:

YOU NEED HELP. THIS ISN'T NORMAL OR HEALTHY OR OKAY. YOU NEED REAL MENTAL HELP.

There is nothing wrong with being single if that's what someone wants. You can live a healthy and fulfilling life without relationships. In fact, statistically it's healthier for women to be single then married to men. But if you, Liz, haven't made this choice and are single because no one wants to be with you, you really need to reflect on how you act and present yourself to other people and what it is you do that drives people away. Based on all the social media posts TeamE83Liz has made, it looks like she's a dangerous, unhinged, obsessed fanatic that can't separate reality and fiction wrapped up in a victim complex.

Two actors you've never met or spoken to being in a relationship who might, at some point in the future, get married and have kids shouldn't affect ANYONE'S life. How on earth does the happiness of two people that I hope you never meet "ruin" your life? You are not the main character of the universe. You, like everyone else in the world, are of no importance to people you have never met.

TeamE83Liz appears to have moved on from calling Ben "him" to "that thing". I wasn't kidding when I said she has serial killer vibes.

"I'd have to stay online, so I can make sure she reads the nasty stuff I'd say! I.Am. Worried. EVEN THOUGH, I don't want to believe she's with "IT"!!"

I've said this before and I feel like I'll end up saying it many times in the future. Don't ever feel sorry for the people that are featured on here. Save your pity for people who don't act like Robert John Bardo.

Based on nothing, she's convinced herself that the character's Elizabeth and Lucas were broken up because of Erin. Just ignoring the showrunner and producer and writers.

Mark your Bingo cards, TeamE83Liz said that Erin's "way too private" again. Erin "didn't wanna kiss anybody anymore bc it'll make "that thing" jealous!"

More dehumanizing language against one of the actors. I really hope whoever works behind the scenes of When Calls The Heart keeps track of lunatics like this and finds a way to keep them from going to meet and greets and stuff like that. I hope there's some kind of safety protocol in place.

Maybe, just maybe, there was less kissing this season because they were going to break up the characters. No, that can't be it. It's because Erin went to Italy with Ben (Liz is really obsessed with this dumb Italy trip the cast took).

Oh look, more squealing about how she has a right to express herself. I guess I can agree with that since I'm using this Tumblr blog to express myself and the disgust I feel for people who obsess over a TV show. Freedom of Speech is awesome :D

A quick lesson on ships

Because why not??😌

No but seriously, bare with me, I'm trying to answer your questions. Sit if you have to. Hehe

Uban Dictionary defines shipping as this:

A term used to describe fan fictions that take previously created characters and put them as a pair. It usually refers to romantic relationships, but it can refer platonic [sic] ones as well. (Just think of “shipping” as short for “relationSHIP”.) 9 Apr 2015

Ships can be platonic or romantic or both.

There's fictional ships and non fictional ships too. You ship two people you want to be in a relationship or who already are in a relationship or who you suspect to be in a relationship- perhaps due to queer baiting, ship baiting, romance baiting etc.

In the shipping fandom, there are two sects of people. Those who are Proships those who are Antiships- antis are ironically considered part of the shipping community because for some reason they are always in shippers business💀

Antishippers are those who oppose a particular ship or shipping in general (more on that later.)

Proshippers are well- Pro ships.

Pro-Ship

A term mostly used in fandoms, but can stretch outside of this to include original characters. The core belief is that shipping two fictional characters, no matter if they are family, share ages gaps, considered to be unhealthy, or show blatant signs of being abusive or other generally unsavory behaviours, are valid in a fictional setting.

Pro-Shippers or "anti-antis" are also known as "rainbow meaties" and will use 🌈 + 🍖 emojis together often in their bio on twitter or other social media platforms- usually within fictional settings.

These shippers reinforce the idea fiction is separate from reality and shouldn't be confused with the other.

‘Anti’ is short for ‘anti-shipper’ or ‘anti-[ship]’.

Kindly read through this thread to get the gist of it.

Shipping non-fictional individuals is a subset of Proshipping, in my opinion, known also as alternative shipping- as far as my knowledge on it goes.

As with fictional shipping, alt ships have their antis too. People who disagree with shipping real couples in a romantic way for whatever arbitrary moral reasons they have and who feel entitled to go out of their way to correct, stop, police and punish such shippers.

Then there are those who although may be pro real people shipping think they have the right to tell others how they should ship and to what extent they can ship.

Others too prefer to ship real people platonically because they view romantic shipping of real people as problematic.

So to answer your question on Anon's post- there is no such thing as a Proshipper who is also Anti shipping. Thats oxymoronic. Perhaps they might be platonic shippers who are anti romantic ships but not necessarily romantic shippers themselves.

I don't think there's anything wrong with preferring to ship platonically. It is when they assume by virtue of their false sense of moderacy that they are better than others that shit starts to get funny.

Those shippers are delusionally confused beings with a supremacist imperialist complex rooted in ignorance and absurdities.

I usually walk by those quietly. keep it pushing. Gotta mind my business somehow even though most times I just want to pull their hair and bite them and shit😭

I try to keep it classy.

You are either pro ship or anti ship. There's no in between. Those shippers who are shippers but claim they are not are nothing but fraudulent, fake us, simps trying to bamboozle their way through life- pardon my Swahili.

There are a lot of anti shippers moonlighting as shippers in this fandom. It's fascinating.

Personally I think those people are either confused or their desires to appeal to other Anti shippers must have morphed their brains into ass dick hybrids.

Anti shippers in general are notorious gatekeepers, gaslighters, bigots, high key sanctimonious and often have a cis white westernized sense of morality and ethics through which they fliter others and expect everyone and everything to conform to.

They impose their values on others, their ethics on others, resort to manipulation, policing, intimidation and bullying to impose their will etc.

Within shipping, there are those who are Proshipping yet anti certain ships. Most Tuktukkers are anti Jikook. And assume anyone who isn't a tuktukker is equally anti Tae Kook and so go ahead and exhibit anti behaviours towards them.

Think of such groups of shippers as Proshippers with a preference for particular ships if you will.

There are Pro shippers who also feel some kind of way about Shipping real life people or alt shipping.

Here's further resource to help you understand what proshipping is

If you are intolerant with other shippers choice of ships or style of shipping and you traumatize them for it that's Anti shipping. Especially if you feel entitled and justified to traumatize others because you take a higher moral status over them.

You can be proship and not like how certain people, how they go about

Simply walk away, click off, mind your business. You are not the only adult in these streets and leave people to do what interests them.

I think for as long as I can remember, I've always been a proshipper and I ship both platonically and romantically, fictionally and alternatively💀

Some themes in fiction are a hard limit for me such as the R word, pedophilia, incest, child abuse- I just can never find the entertainment in those topics and will struggle through such themes.

But others believe it's just FICTION and those fictional characters aren't really dealing with the imaginary struggles we read about.

I don't really know why people make a big deal of it or try to demonize the concept of shipping as if it were something strange or mysterious- just keep your moral values to yourself. I am not your mother's daughter. we were not raised in the same households.

Then again I think it all depends on the different cultures and social backgrounds we all come from and how entitled, supremacist or imperialist they are.

For Yoonmin, I shipped them romantically but didn't think they were a real couple at all. I just romanticized their interactions and found humor in it. At the back of my head I was expecting them each to one day find husbands or wives and go their merry ways and even harbored the thought they each could very much be in serious romantic relationships with others.

In similar ways, I shipped Minimoni and Vmin.

You can ship a pair romantically and not think at all that they are actually REAL.

A lot of jokers ship Jikook romantically and don't assume they are real. Just as a lot of people shipped say Elena and Stefan romantically even though Paul was married.

Some shipped Elena and Damon too due to their unscreen chemistry and even felt they could be a thing- that was before later it was revealed they had started dating in real life. Even that I was holding on to my Bonnie x Damon fantasies because Bonnie was my bias and I shipped her with everyone romantically- of course I didn't expect any of those ships to manifest into something because it was the character I was shipping not Kat herself. To this day I still love her onscreen chemistry and friendship with Damon and don't see how people could wish for it to be more than that😭

It was beautiful as is. Not everything should climax into sexual intercourse.

But if I felt at some point any of her ships had crossed into alternative ships I would have jumped on those and supported it whole heartedly.

If you assume a pair are a real couple and dating in real life that's alt shipping- a lot of alt shippers suspect a ship is real and that's why they ship them.

There is no such thing as platonic alt shipping.

And for me personally, because I believe Jikook are a real couple and have made that cross over I don't ship any of that pair romantically with other members anymore.

It's bizzare to me to ship someone I know has a partner romantically with anybody else- I make exceptions for Vmin of course💀

I know JK is side eyeing me but I don't care.

I want Tae to be happy too😭😭😭

Tae just wants his bestfriend and soulmate😭

It's too much😭😭😭😭😭😭

He stays shooting his shots🤣

Jimin Harem is real🤭

I must admit, I catch myself slipping on Vmin and Minimoni every now and then- old habits die hard and they don't make it easy 😫

But that don't mean I think Vmin is dating. THAT WOULD BE WILD.

Summary

Proshippers can be Platonic or Romantic shippers and you can ship a pair romantically and not assume they are real at all.

Anti shippers are just assholes trying to beat their values down people's throats.

Alt shippers don't ship their OTP with other players romantically.

I don't know what you mean by Jinkooker...

Do you ship Jinkook romantically or think they are real?? Sis...

Maybe you just ship them platonically or casually.

I ship all the ships platonically.

Especially all Jimin"s Tae's ships. I'd let my self flirt with the idea of romance every now and then.

JK's ships don't make sense to me as ships.

As nonplatonic ships I mean.

I'm fascinated each time I see a hardcore JK x any member ship besides Jikook swearing up and down JK is screwing Namjoon🤣🤣

My first book of 2022 is When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin.

This is the fourth book I've read by Martin which is only surprising because he is often marketed as a Christian author. Not to say there is anything wrong with that. But I am not religious in the slightest (on the best of days I am agnostic, on the worst I am atheist)-- and from the outside looking in, it is often hard to tell what 'christian' books will be mostly regular fiction and what will be for lack of a better term preachy.

I can say that each book I've read as been progressively heavier with the religious/spiritual/churchy feel. The first book I read, Chasing Fireflies, had a Bible verse, a couple lines and a mention of everyone in town going to church. When Crickets Cry had many verses and quotes and praying. What I will say is that even as a non-christian, it doesn't matter. The religion doesn't take away from the story and at no point do I feel like I'm reading some sort of recruitment propaganda.

What I feel Charles Martin does an amazing job of is creating deep, emotional characters and weaving their stories from past to present. He shows you what makes them, what breaks them and what puts them back together again. There is ache, agony... rebirth... living, dying, and living again.

In When Crickets Cry, Martin tells a story of a young boy and a young girl who grow up together. As children they find out that Emma has a bad heart. From that day forward, small Reese makes it his life mission to learn every detail about the human heart. He believes his purpose is to heal Emma's heart. Through their life, they fall in love and marry and build a life as they wait for the perfect heart.

Charles Martin has this way of writing that will break your heart with just a line. In one part, both Reese and Emma's brother Charlie gave blood to help Emma. Charlie is small and doesn't fully understand what is going on. The doctor explains that the red blood cells in his blood are like dump trucks that can help his sister. He asks if Charlie will give her some of his dump trucks. And with a simple honesty only a child could have, Charlie asks, "Can I just give her all of them?"

Later as an adult, Reese is living a quiet life and by chance runs into a little girl selling lemonade. She is in the same health as Emma had been as a girl-- a failing heart and all the love in the world to offer. Annie wins over everyone she meets including Reese. She sells lemonade and crickets to make money for her medical bills. Her parents are both dead and her aunt, Cindy is taking care of her the best she can. Reese becomes a bit of a guardian angel to both of them while trying not to delve into the past that still haunts him. All the while the little girl with the broken heart is working at healing his.

The book is full of twists and turns and secrets... and just when you think it can't break your heart any more, it will devastate you. I am not a crier but I have cried with each one of Marin's books-- but this one more than any other.

One line of the book spells it out perfectly: "I guess sometimes it's got to hurt before it gets better... hearts are like that."

I am emotionally exhausted after reading this book. It certainly started my reading this year with a strong punch to the gut. But I loved it. Chasing Fireflies is still my favorite Martin book, but this has become a close second. The way it teaches about love and grief and forgiveness and starting over... a beautiful storm of emotions.

I'll finish with one of my favorite sections and hope it doesn't give too much away:

'Maybe that hurt most of all. I hugged him, we cried some, never really said more, and then just started picking up the pieces, which by that time were scattered all over the place. Every now and then we'd find one. Still do. Sometimes together. Sometimes alone.'

And isn't that just how grief goes. At some point it's just picking up the pieces. Finding one here or there, sometimes with your loved ones and sometimes on your own. But always picking up pieces and building again.
