Something About Every Player the USMNT is Bringing to the World Cup
Tumblr media
Matt Turner: definitely our starter for the upcoming World Cup. One of the best in terms of shot-stopping. 100% save percentage right now for Arsenal in the Europa League. Well deserved start.
Ethan Horvath: a fantastic back up for the USMNT. His save in the Nations League final against Mexico cemented him as a legend. Provides reliability if we are forced to turn to him.
Sean Johnson: a veteran presence for the national team, which is never a bad thing to have at the World Cup. Has been quite good for NYCFC this season and has been a part of a system that plays out of the back.
Tumblr media
Cameron Carter-Vickers: has been one of, if not the best, defender in the Scottish Premier League this season for Celtic. Absolutely deserving of his place and should be looked to as a starter in the back.
Tim Ream: a surprise inclusion for some USMNT followers, but certainly not undeserved. With Brooks and Richards out, Ream will be the best central defender on this roster. His age of 34 will both help and hinder his minutes, but expect him to be a starter at some point during the group stages.
Walker Zimmerman: currently playing for Nashville SC, he has consistently improved under club and country. A presence in both the air and on the ground, he makes a reliable back up for this roster.
Aaron Long: easily the most controversial inclusion for the defenders, ahead of other prospects like McKenzie or injured Richards and out-of-favor Brooks. But Long has played his career in systems built around pressing and while his current form might leave him out of the starting line up, he has been a staple of this team throughout qualifying.
Sergiño Dest: incredible talent that has at least been getting more consistent minutes since his move to Milan this past summer. A threat going forward, Dest’s chemistry with our starting wingers cannot be understated. Expect him to start at this World Cup.
Antonee Robinson: likely the USMNT’s most important defender due to his impact on both ends of the pitch. His speed is a great weapon on defense and he has been a mainstay at left-back for Fulham for several years.
Joe Scally: another absolute deserved inclusion. A 19-year old playing every game for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga. Gladbach’s coach even praised him as their “player of the season” last year. Consistently overlooked in Europe, don’t be surprised if he gets the start over Dest.
DeAndre Yedlin: it cannot be understated how important his presence in the locker room will be. The only player on the roster who has been to a previous Word Cup. An electric youngster in 2014, he will be looked at as a level-headed leader in 2022.
Shaq Moore: the inclusion that surprised me the most, Moore had struggled in La Liga to find consistent minutes, but since moving to Nashville SC, he has been a top performer in the MLS. A sold back up for this roster.
Tumblr media
Brenden Aaronson: an absolute revelation of a player this year at Leeds. The biggest critique from club fans has been that the youngster occasionally tries too hard. An elite presser, Aaronson is best at playing the “pass before the pass” and an excellent creator of goal scoring chances.
Tyler Adams: a similar stand out for Leeds, Adams has been looking like one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe. Who I want to see wearing the USMNT captain armband, Adams is a leader on and off the pitch. Superb reader of the game.
Yunus Musah: a 19-year-old starter in La Liga, Musah has been instrumental to the USMNT’s game play. When Musah is not on the pitch, the team suffers. A true ball carrier, Musah is often where the USMNT’s attacks start.
Luca De La Torre: although questionable due to recent injury, USMNT fans let out a collective sigh of relief upon seeing De La Torre’s name. An essential back up for McKennie, De La Torre has decisively earned his spot on this roster.
Kellyn Acosta: going from Europe-Bound youngster to being dropped from the National Team and traded is tough to come back from and lesser players may have crumbled. But Acosta boards the flight to Qatar an MLS Cup Champion (with a stunning opening goal) and a well earned spot on the roster.
Weston McKennie: arguably one of the best players the US has ever produced, McKennie is a mainstay in Juventus’s midfield and often the only positive about many of their games. A personality that you need in your locker rooms and on the field, McKennie will look to be a stand-out performer at this Word Cup.
Christian Roldan: another controversial inclusion, but Roldan’s presence and tactical mindset can only benefit the US. While not expecting much playing time, Roldan is a coach in the making and his attitude will be instrumental in leading this young squad.
Tumblr media
Christian Pulisic: heralded as the greatest USMNT player, Pulisic will be looking to prove himself at the World Cup. But to most USMNT fans, he long since has. A leader in the team, his ability and skill will be imperative for US success.
Giovanni Reyna: for a while, it was doubtful Reyna could stay healthy enough to make this roster, and while it is still unlikely he will play a full 90 this tournament, Reyna is the difference maker you need at the World Cup. It may be controversial to say, but the most talented player on this roster.
Timothy Weah: a player with the potential to be our most dangerous player during any given game, a hard worker on and off the ball. Weah has the potential to change a game when he comes on the field and is often overlooked by the fan base.
Josh Sargent: a story of perseverance. Looking like one of our best strikers in the youth leagues, Sargent struggled in bad teams under bad management and went through a downturn in form that ended him in the Championship where he become a formidable player once again.
Jordan Morris: another controversial inclusion. Once on the precipice of a move to Europe, Morris found himself instead fighting back from a gruesome injury. To see him make a World Cup roster is a heartening. With tough completion ahead of him, it is unlikely he will see much of the field, but Morris is always a hard worker during his minutes.
Haji Wright: a surprise inclusion in this roster, Wright has just 3 caps for the USMNT, where he scored only 1 goal. However, Wright has found form this season in the Turkish League, being one of the top strikers, and his like-for-like replacement for Ferreira puts him ahead of others who were fighting for this position.
Jesus Ferreira: his work rate off the ball truly cemented his place on this roster. While it is a toss up with Sargent over who starts, you’re likely to see Ferreira at the 9 in most of the games. While he sometimes occupies space in which our wingers like to develop, he is a worthy inclusion for work both on and off the ball.

CCV attitude is spot on.
In a week that seen the Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers dub his side ‘the best team in Scotland’ it was reassuring to here the big strong man Cameron Carter Vickers do the opposite and keep the lid on our title chances. CCV insisted that a three point lead is nothing, and he would be right. It’s a lead with no margin for error especially with a Glasgow derby still to negotiate. He then stated at…

Has Paulo Bernardo Earned a Summer Move to Celtic? - ACSOM
The loan-to-buy model is something that has been incredibly successful for Celtic over the last few years. Whilst there have been some that have failed, the overwhelming successes of the signings of Odsonne Edouard from Paris-Saint Germain, Jota from Benfica and Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur have meant that using this ‘try before you buy’ — Read on…

USMNT Copa America 2024 Roster: Projecting the players 23
The 2024 Copa América will provide the U.S. men’s national team with a huge opportunity to show it can compete with the world’s best ahead of a home World Cup in 2026.
Tumblr media
It will also be the last chance the USMNT has to face strong opposition in meaningful competition ahead of the next World Cup, which will put plenty of pressure on Gregg Berhalter and his team.
The USMNT has been handed an ideal draw in Group C, with winnable games versus Bolivia and Panama alongside a true test against Uruguay, which should serve the team well ahead of any potential knockout round matches.
Berhalter will have plenty to think about before his side kicks off the tournament on June 23, not least of which will be the 23 players he’ll name to the roster.
Here are our picks for the players Berhalter will name to his roster for the 2024 Copa América.
Goalkeepers: Matt Turner, Drake Callender, Gabriel Slonina Despite an up-and-down debut season with Nottingham Forest, it’s hard to imagine anybody other than Turner in goal when the Copa América kicks off.
Part of that is down to Turner’s performances with the USMNT and part is simply because no viable alternative has emerged recently.
Two of those possible alternatives, Zack Steffen and Ethan Horvath, haven’t played at all in months. Steffen has secured a move to the Colorado Rapids, while Horvath needs to leave Nottingham Forest, where he’s currently third string.
With Steffen needing to re-prove himself in MLS and Horvath’s future uncertain, we’re giving Callender and Slonina the nod here. The USMNT goalkeeper situation behind Turner, though, is highly fluid and subject to change.
Defenders: Sergiño Dest, Antonee Robinson, Joe Scally, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Miles Robinson, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Kristoffer Lund Robinson is an absolute lock to start at left back and Dest’s comeback season at PSV means he’s close to a lock at right back, despite his complete meltdown in the USMNT’s last match.
Center back is a real trouble spot for this team. Ream has impressed over the past two years but time could be catching up with him. Robinson had a down year in 2023 and is staying in MLS instead of testing himself abroad. Carter-Vickers has been a standout with Celtic but could use to test himself at a higher level. Richards can’t get minutes at defense with Crystal Palace but has been converted to an every-game starter in midfield of late.
And those are the players on the roster.
World Cup starter Walker Zimmerman has recently been a healthy scratch from national team rosters. Auston Trusty could be next in line for a call-up, as he’s getting valuable Premier League minutes on an admittedly limited Sheffield United squad. Mark McKenzie is in the mix as well.
Scally is a solid bet to make the squad as a utility fullback, and can even play center back in a pinch. The backup left back position is up for grabs, as it has been for a while. Dest may be the actual backup, but Lund gets the nod for now to boost the team’s depth.
Midfielders: Johnny Cardoso, Tyler Adams, Luca de la Torre, Yunus Musah, Weston McKennie, Gio Reyna, Malik Tillman The health of Adams is the biggest question mark in the USMNT midfield at this point. If he returns in February or March as Bournemouth’s owner expects him to, then the USMNT captain will have plenty of time to recapture his starting spot ahead of the Copa América.
That could see the MMA midfield reconstituted, with Musah and (especially) McKennie enjoying strong campaigns in Serie A.
We could also see Reyna continue to start at the No. 10 in a more attacking setup. The 21-year-old continues to struggle for minutes at Dortmund, but he’s a lock to play a prominent role at the Copa América if healthy.
Tillman is almost redundant with Reyna on the squad as well, but the PSV midfielder is starting to put it all together and is simply too talented to keep off this roster — though he’s yet to make a real impact with the USMNT.
Cardoso’s spot as a backup No. 6 looks secure regardless of Adams’ health, but the new Real Betis signing would obviously have a much bigger role in the event of another setback. So too would fellow La Liga midfielder De la Torre, whose ball progression and ability in possession make him too valuable to leave off this squad.
Forwards: Christian Pulisic, Tim Weah, Ricardo Pepi, Folarin Balogun, Haji Wright Pulisic and Weah are locks to start at the two wide forward positions, while the No. 9 role is becoming an intriguing competition between Pepi and Balogun.
Balogun looks to be the favorite but is in the midst of a scoring slump at Monaco, while Pepi has done nothing but score for PSV and the USMNT over the past year — but almost always as a substitute. He clearly deserves more minutes, but he’s proving rather valuable off the bench as well.
The final spot is a difficult choice, but Wright just gets the nod over Brenden Aaronson. At some point, Aaronson’s collapse in club form is going to cost him on the national team level, and there are no shortage of alternatives who could take his spot this summer.
Wright is the choice for now. The Coventry City attacker is having a strong campaign and has recently been at his most effective while playing as a winger. That ability to play wide or as a No. 9 gives him the edge.
That only leaves one backup winger in this forward group, but Reyna and Tillman have played the position for the USMNT in the recent past. Though both are more comfortable inside, that ability could allow Berhalter to only take five players in the forward group. Dest could also move up to play a more defensive winger role if needed.
Aside from Aaronson, there are a whole host of talented players who could miss out, including Josh Sargent. The Norwich striker could make himself impossible to leave out, however, with a strong run of scoring form — which could also be said for Daryl Dike or Brandon Vazquez.
Kevin Paredes is young and super talented but still doesn’t quite seem ready for extended minutes for club or country. He looks like a strong candidate for the 2026 World Cup squad, though, if he continues his upward trajectory.
Projected 2024 USMNT Copa America roster Goalkeepers (3): Matt Turner, Drake Callender, Gabriel Slonina
Defenders (8): Sergiño Dest, Antonee Robinson, Joe Scally, Miles Robinson, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Kristoffer Lund
Midfielders (7): Johnny Cardoso, Tyler Adams, Luca de la Torre, Yunus Musah, Weston McKennie, Gio Reyna, Malik Tillman
Forwards (5): Christian Pulisic, Tim Weah, Ricardo Pepi, Folarin Balogun, Haji Wright

Ko Itakura has an uncertain future at Manchester City as was expected to turn his loan move at FC Schalke 04 permanent before the deal broke down due to insuffienct funds. The 25-year-old could now be on the move elsewhere, and award-winning Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph says Celtic are one club ‘monitoring’ the situation. The Scottish Premiership side are coming off the back of winning the title, but Ange Postecoglou has recognised the need for more centre-backs. He’s not short of numbers with Christopher Jullien, Carl Starfelt, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh, Liam Scales and Osaze Urhoghide on the books, but, Carter-Vickers was only on loan, Jullien and Urhoghide hasn’t played all season, and Welsh and Scales have been bench-fodder in recent months, so a new face will be needed. Itakura will be available this summer as he doesn’t have a future back at Man City. The Japanese international hasn’t made a senior appearance since joining from Kawasaki Frontale in 2019 and is behind John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order, so Celtic could take advantage. It will all depend on the player and where he wants to go ahead of next season. Estados Unidos 1- Irán 0
ver video resumen
