I've been toying with the idea of a wizard with the solider background, and I was caught between War Magic and Abjuration. I feel like I saw a post where you weren't keen on War Magic as a subclass. Can I ask why? Also I'm assuming you'd recommend Abjuration over it lol

Ok short answer first, longer answer with general thoughts on D&D mechanics that goes far beyond the scope of this question below:

The features of War Magic are not very good. Any wizard class outside of the 8 main schools has a significant hit to spell copying (the lack of <school of magic savant>) that really should be made up for by the class being very good or having abilities that other wizards do not. Not only does War Magic not exceed other wizard classes; I think it is way worse. Arcane deflection is free but it limits you to cantrips; the bonus to initiative is fine but honestly as a wizard it's often to your advantage to go a bit later in the round anyway and also chronurgy gets this and like, good other features; and power surge is fucking terrible. Power surge only works if you're battling other magic users. If you're wandering around the wilderness fighting owlbears? you aren't dispelling or counterspelling, your power surge is 1, and you are doing literally 10 or fewer extra force damage like once a day. At L6 transmutation wizards get a whole magic rock granting all kinds of great benefits; evokers can overcome the usual "saves mean no damage" on cantrips; abjurers have a magical ward of probably 15-17 HP for themselves and others; and you get to do like 5 points force damage once a day unless you happen to run across something that needs dispelling and you succeed in dispelling it, a thing that abjuration wizards get a bonus to but you do not. This is a garbage feature and whoever made it should feel bad. Durable magic is like, fine, and deflecting shroud is like, well, I guess you're getting something out of only casting cantrips, but most campaigns end before L10 let alone 14. Abjuration meanwhile lets you legitimately be a tank AND it's cheaper to cast counterspell AND your tanking capabilities do not cost you the chance to cast real-ass spells, the thing that you presumably became a wizard for. (This is also why I think bladesinging is stupid. If you are playing a wizard you are here to have the biggest spell list in the book, the ability to learn as many of those spells as you can get your hands on; and to be full of hubris. If you are here for any other reason, leave.)

More tangential answer

First I want to repeat what I said above: most campaigns don't make it past L7 or 8, if you start at 2 or 3. Plan accordingly. That does not mean you can't strive for cool L10 or 14 or 18 features or whatever, but those lower level features are probably the only payoff you're getting. (If you're playing a high-level one shot or starting at L10 or something, then you can disregard obviously, but war magic still sucks).

You don't need to limit yourself to abjurer or war magic simply because of the soldier background. The quick builds in the PHB are nice for beginners but they can also serve to round out a character in interesting ways. If you're a soldier who became a wizard...might you have been an evoker who could do major damage while sparing your troops? might you have been a transmutation wizard, casting haste on your allies? A necromancer, summoning undead armies? An illusion wizard, tricking the enemy? A divination wizard, guaranteeing your success in battle? A graviturgist or chronurgist, rending time and space themselves to shape the battlefield and outcomes?

I've said this before: I usually pick class first and I make the character around that. I feel a lot of the mechanics questions I get are because people made an OC and then decided to play them in D&D. And to be clear that is fine, but that means that you started with the open-ended question that you now need to shove into a pre-determined box, instead of starting with the set list of options and some vague flexible ideas and then getting creative from a starting point. So anyway: I think picking a subclass you genuinely want to play first and then constructing the character around it is often the superior option to coming up with a character and then looking for subclasses that might support that.

And then, finally: the reason war magic sucks is that it isn't very good at doing what it's trying to do. A lot of subclasses people say aren't very good are actually very good, but they aren't good at pure damage. This is why people have long said bards and rangers are weaker classes despite them both being very high utility; it's because a bard doing a great job might not deal a single point of damage in the fight, and people don't respect the value of heals and buffs. War magic though, is not very good at actually doing extra damage (power surge is, as discussed, meager at best) and the shielding you can do to yourself comes at the cost of you being able to deal damage effectively. It nerfs itself. You'd be better served by like...playing a dwarf so you have armor proficiency, or taking a level in cleric to cast shield of faith, or taking lightly armored or elemental adept or tough/durable or metamagic adept and playing another wizard subclass, and you'd achieve either the higher AC or higher damage output without constantly having to balance the risks and benefits.

A Review Of Befen

This is a perfect purse for someone wanting a low profile, handsome accessory that’s built to last. Materials: The leather used is of very good quality, even grain and thick enough to withstand a lot of use (as determined by zipper pull and strap center cut edges). The hardware is also high quality, the swivel clicks precisely made with solid springs and smooth swiveling. The zippers are all metal – with potential to snag delicate fabrics, but easily remedied by carrying zipper side out. The fabric lining is solid and well thought out. The interfacing used to stiffen the fabric of the card holding area is just right, providing adequate support without feeling bulky or excessively stiff. Design: I give the design a solid A rating. I feel like I want something slightly different from the edge profile, somewhere between the single and the double for width, but as a purse designed to be lightweight and low-profile, this purse has been excellently thought out. The omission of a prominent label earns this purse big points in my eyes, as it is much easier to use it with either side facing out and it pairs much more nicely with sleek, understated pieces. Good style doesn’t need to shout about who made it, or should be impressive enough to warrant people asking after the brand. This purse does the trick. Storage/packaging/shipping: This is the only arena in which I could see improvement. The straps were nicely folded and stored inside the purse, but because of its thin profile the strap hardware ended up forming a visible bump through the leather, presumably thanks to the weight of items stored atop it pressing the leather against the metal. This is slightly visible in the second picture, with the purse vertically oriented, the bulge located in the lower right-hand corner. Similarly, the leather of the bottom edge of the purse was bent quite a bit during storage. My hope is the leather will relax during use and these two marks will even out over time, especially when the purse is full. Perhaps in the case of these low-profile purses, it would be better to store the straps outside of the purse itself in the same packaging bag, so as to avoid deforming the leather. These notes aren’t worth detracting any stars in my review, as this is a problem faced by any retailer anywhere, and I’ve often seen far worse being sold for far more. The packaging for shipping was quite adequate. While it would be nice to see environmentally friendly/recycled/recyclable packaging, what was there does enough without using excessive amounts of material or space.

Exploration of the main active metabolites from Tinospora crispa (L.) Hook. f. & Thomson stem as insulin sensitizer in L6.C11 skeletal muscle cell by integrating in vitro, metabolomics, and molecular docking

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Tinospora crispa (L.) Hook. f. & Thomson stem (TCS) has long been used as folk medicine for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Previous study revealed that TCS possesses multi-ingredients and multi-targets characteristic potential as insulin sensitizer activity. However, its mechanisms of action and molecular targets are still obscure. Aim of the study: In the present study, we investigated the effects of TCS against insulin resistance in muscle cells through integrating in vitro experiment and identifying its active biomarker using metabolomics and in molecular docking validation. Materials and methods: We used centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC) to isolate 33 fractions from methanolic extract of TCS, and then used UHPLC-Orbitrap-HRMS to identify the detectable metabolites in each fraction. We assessed the insulin sensitization activity of each fraction using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and then used confocal immunocytochemistry microscopy to measure the translocation of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) to the cell membrane. The identified active metabolites were further simulated for its molecular docking interaction using Autodock Tools. Results: The polar fractions of TCS significantly increased insulin sensitivity, as measured by the inhibition of phosphorylated insulin receptor substrate-1 (pIRS1) at serine-312 residue (ser312) also the increasing number of translocated GLUT4 and glycogen content. We identified 58 metabolites of TCS, including glycosides, flavonoids, alkaloids, coumarins, and nucleotides groups. The metabolomics and molecular docking simulations showed the presence of minor metabolites consisting of tinoscorside D, higenamine, and tinoscorside A as the active compounds. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that TCS is a promising new treatment for insulin resistance and the identification of the active metabolites in TCS could lead to the development of new drugs therapies for diabetes that target these pathways. It’s 1 September 2023. I seem to be constructing numbers today. I can generally grasp why, but there’s something bubbling up through p-adic numbers. Not sure what.

No, I think it’s about an understanding not of p-adics but of what they mean, given their existence, and thus what existence means when seen through the lens of numbers. I have no idea what I’m going to say, no idea if it will make sense. Just going to trust myself, and I’ll try not to worry so much about punctuation and capitalization.

When you build a number system off primes, then you’re literally expressing LayerView at the base, at the prime itself. Every even multiple disappears in LV. Oh right, it appears in its proper places, which are at the L-count below and the one above, because otherwise it isn’t an ‘even’ in grisp. OK, so p-adics map to LayerView but with more detail because the evens now have multiple existences. No idea what I just said. What are multiple existences? They exist exactly as D-structure describes, with the End at the even, like L6 is between L5 and L7. To be clearer, at L7, the obvious count is to exclude the szK4 gs, but part of that exclusion is you test over that square to one side or the other. That fills up to the interior edge of the End which defines yes this must be szK4. It’s counting, so it works using the base End+CR method.

It’s great how well CR fits carriage return. I just noticed that. It’s at the end of a line, you reset to the beginning for the next, and CR means you reach the end of a line and you reset to the beginning for the next every instant, within every moment, a built in carriage return which identifies what happens next. Everything thing you do is an end.

Go through and capitalize the Ends and that works as math. The mechanics tend to be, can’t say if they always are yet, that of an electric current, not of a watch spinning. That is, because CR rotates the coordinate system, which is not the same as rotation within the coordinate system, which is a very important point, then any point, meaning here the real or expressive End, which may be a thought but which connects to something tangible, like what I’m typing, is in tension around the Boundary. Or rather than around, because that implies a circle, along and across, as well. So for example, a polynomial graphed represents the edge between spaces, and that works through decimal expansion of the variable. I don’t know why that’s difficult for me to accept: it’s obviously true that when we construct grid squares, that lines drawn in projection on a grid represent orthogonal structures of gs with irrational sides. That this embodies the fundamental conception of irrationality now leaps out at me. In other words, there are the perfect and the imperfect squares, 2 types of gs, and they exist in the basic orthogonal relationship we map in the conception of an Irreducible.

An imperfect square has one integer form, not 2. My head is starting to get lost. I think I just heard that this is why, this right here is why we have 0Space, the bifurcation of counting into the integer and non-integer forms. Note then that integer counting generates decimals, so the bifurcation is, as we all know, not a complete separation, but rather a splitting of approach, which is the Between exemplified. That is, the splitting of approach is exactly the 1-0Segmenting across Between in Start to End. It maps to an fD and to a gs.

No idea where this is going. The amount of process required to transform Triangular into grid squares is substantial. Example: if you take a single bT, it has 3fD, and if you take one of those, then you have 2bT, with 6 or perhaps 7 connected bT in each direction, so from 12 to 14. That’s just one thread of many. Example is that we can construct this from the other bT selected, which means we evaluate the relationship between the selection by both bT of the other. That directly translates into relative judgements of relationships, and this occurs inherently at the lowest possible level. And if you think about it, that’s as it should be because this embodies choice across the realm or Boundary of choice within the construction of grid squares and of our experience of reality. Not sure that was clear. I’m saying, I gather, that we have choice because this is a construction and we occur within it, meaning we exist within these same very complicated patterns as anything else, meaning tangibly and intangibly, so that choice extends along a Boundary. Should be Extends because we are wrapping a count of 1 over a space which remains a count of 1 as we manipulate it, from basic rotations to wackier stuff.

So, towers of p-adics map to LV. I think I heard that before, but didn’t quite get how it worked. Using the same approach as above, since K’ing has been working a lot lately, where I mean the process of identifying what comes together or splits apart out of a common thread, so the vertical in K represents the orthogonal structure at that End in its Irreducible to the implied axis, which is typically xK. But it can be an szK or yK.

Okay, so this is getting weirder. If we have xK and yK and szK, then since we choose one of the szK, with the other being incorporated as the Irreducible, then wham bam thank you ma’am isn’t that 3D? Isn’t that literal statement of 3D out of 4D? I know I’ve seen this before, in various notes, but it feels fresh because now we’re saying D3 and thus the D3-4//D4-3 Space with its threads, with its D4-3 existences and D3-4 existences makes complete sense when you draw this as Triangular over gs. I’m trying to see that last part better. Triangular over gs is the translation of ‘internal’ grisp generation of gs meaning the transformations required to convert all those bT and fD into stable form.

The image is clearer: 4Ends+CR is the stable solution to not only an fD in CR but the other ordering in which the orientation is Irreducible. What exactly does that mean? Irreducible in this sense means the perspective on orientation, as in if you pick xK, then you locate points like -1, 0, and 1 while in yK, it could be -i, 0, and i or -1, 0, and 1, and so on, but the point is that these constructions rotate within a larger space and that larger space has a form which is Irreducible. The idea of a ball spinning just came into view: if you spin it, you may say it is perfectly the same, and then you move it in space and that means it can’t be perfectly the same because it now inherently counts an orthogonal alternation space which relates conceptions of origin and the end of the line, like a rocket launch. In other words, it now projects more obviously to a grid because now it counts more visibly along an axis.

The ultimate spinning gs construction would be a black hole. That came together when we grasped the concept of CM2.8 as the disappearance/appearance (see the perspective?) of CM28, which means we count the reduced CM64+reducedCM28 to get the necessary K’ing, like above, where we see alternatives, a pairing, an alteration count, etc. appear. That last ‘alternation count’ is huge in my head at this moment.

Again, every day I think: this is the best possible work I can do, and then I blow that away if not the next then the day after. My head is swirling.

My head is full of music. My body wants to dance. Matching to ideal forms. The moments of grace conception as the instances within the 1 of the 0-1-0 of your life when you can feel the connection is absolutely true. With gs, that means within the context or basis or frame or other way of describing constructed space, as in an answer to a question being responsive to the framing within which the question is asked.

The relation to sets and thus to various space definitions needs clarification. Road in appears to be through Felix Hausdorff, which is neat. I see the relation of points to Ends through the lens of specific and non.
