Best Underrated Anime Group J Round 3: #J3 vs #J1
#J3: Cat demon stuck in cat form, gets adopted as a pet
#J1: Two high school girls overcome mommy issues with the power of YURI!
Details and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#J3: Legend of Luo XiaoHei (series) (Luo XiaoHei Zhan Ji)
Summary:
XiaoHei is a young cat demon training to be an Executor, someone who maintains the balance between humans and demons. His first mission as a trainee was to steal the Sky Pearl. He succeeded, but he also got injured enough to be unable to revert to his human form. Stuck in his cat form, he gets adopted by the human girl XiaoBai as a pet. The story then follows XiaoHei’s adventures as a pet cat in a human home while also evading the pursuit of his enemy, Diting.
Propaganda:
Legend of Luo Xiaohei, at first glance, is a fun kiddy series with cute art. But the more you learn of the story, the more you realize how much thought is put into every little detail. The creator’s worldbuilding is so intricate. It’s like Adventure Time in that you think it’s all fun and games, but there’s actually so much more to it. There’s even a manhua for the side characters featuring their lives from thousands of years ago!
A lot of information will be slowly unfolded, but not once does it feel overwhelming to the viewer. Following XiaoHei’s point of view, we get to see glimpses of the wider lore, piquing our curiosity.
In the world of LXH, demons and cultivators/immortals exist, but they don’t usually cross paths with ordinary humans because they keep their existence/powers a secret. XiaoHei himself has had little interactions with humans aside from his master. It isn’t until XiaoHei meets XiaoBai that he actually learns more about them and their way of life. Slowly, he gets drawn to the human life and also learns to have fun just like the human kids his age.
Season 1 presents to us XiaoHei’s daily life with his friends, so it’s more slice-of-life with the supernatural simply peppered around. It never gets boring, though, because there’s this ever-present tension of XiaoHei having to keep his identity a secret. We also get to meet a lot of intriguing characters, like XiaoBai’s “brother,” who helps XiaoHei fight against Diting.
Season 2, on the other hand, is more action-packed. The plot for s2 is the Executors guild seeking humans with talent in cultivation. They screen them through a virtual reality game where they can emulate the use of powers. XiaoHei’s final test as Executor also takes place here.
I personally think the best aspect of this show is its hype fight scenes, but that’s just me craving stimulation. At its core, LXH is really a heartwarming story about a young demon learning that there is more to life than powers and fighting. Sure, the supernatural stuff is interesting, but beyond that, it’s a story of love—It’s about XiaoHei making friends and discovering what it is he really wants to do without fear of losing what he calls his home, for home will always be with him.
Overall, Legend of Luo Xiaohei is a nice, warm show that you can binge on a slow day without missing out on the excitement a story with an overarching plot brings. Do give it a try.
P.S.: This series takes place about three years after the events in the movie (which has the same title in Chinese, but is more known as simply “Legend of Hei” in English). The series aired first before the movie, though, so it doesn’t matter.
Trigger Warnings:
Child death in s2 (it’s fake, but the characters’ reactions feel so real)
Not really a trigger, but just in case: Teens/adults bullying children. XiaoHei is a great fighter, and the people that can match with him are only those older than him.

#J1: Flip Flappers
youtube
Summary:
Cocona is an average middle schooler living with her grandmother. And she, who has yet to decide a goal to strive for, soon met a strange girl named Papika who invites her to an organization called Flip Flap.
Dragged along by the energetic stranger, Cocona finds herself in the world of Pure Illusion—a bizarre alternate dimension—helping Papika look for crystal shards. Upon completing their mission, Papika and Cocona are sent to yet another world in Pure Illusion. As a dangerous creature besets them, the girls use their crystals to transform into magical girls: Cocona into Pure Blade, and Papika into Pure Barrier. But as they try to defeat the creature before them, three others with powers from a rival organization enter the fray and slay the creature, taking with them a fragment left behind from its body. Afterward, the girls realize that to stand a chance against their rivals and the creatures in Pure Illusion, they must learn to work together and synchronize their feelings in order to transform more effectively.
Propaganda 1:
Flip Flappers is a magical girl show that brings its own unique twist to the genre, while still being reminiscent of older classics. It has incredibly creative visuals, good characters, and an absolute banger soundtrack! The deeper messages of the show are about finding the courage to start making your own decisions and living your life the way you want it, growing up, and the struggle against controlling authority figures that entails. While it is a fun show, the emotional moments it has hit hard! It also has a yuri narrative (seriously, they even get taken to an all-girls Catholic school yuri setting one time), which I’m sure the himejoshis on this webbed site would appreciate if they saw the show!
Propaganda 2:
Look, sometimes Magical Girl Shows have fights that are just kinda… ehh. You ever wanted to see magical girls beat the SNOT out of monsters in amazingly animated, incredibly physical fight scenes? Give Flip Flappers a shot! And if you don’t, that’s fine too, because the shows genre changes every other episode anyways.
Flip Flappers has a little something for everyone. It has amazing characters. It has slick transformation sequences. It has stunning fight scenes. It has horror. It has yuri. It has mommy issues. It’s fun for the whole family!
While one would think the constant tone-shifts would leave the series feeling kinda all over the place, Flip Flappers keeps itself grounded with its amazing character work. The main two characters, Cocona and Papika, bounce off of each other incredibly well. They have so much chemistry, and it’s refreshing to see a show that actually does something romantic with its two main leads instead of just kinda dangling it in front of your face and then chickening out at the last second.
In conclusion, this show is the embodiment what having ADHD and being sapphic feels like. Give it a shot!
Trigger Warnings:
Flashing Lights/Flickering Images, Gender Identity/Sexuality Discrimination, Guns, Kidnapping, Nudity.
Depictions of child and emotional abuse, both at a side character and a main character. Control over children is a common theme in the show.

Carnal Desire (1/3)
Tumblr media
The last person you expected to see was an ‘old friend’ from nearly a decade ago, but you’re determined to show the man that you’re no longer the little girl he use to know. @bloodline1632 @seokjinkismet @babycandy111
Word Count: 2.070
Warning: smut, stripper reader, mafia/gangster yoongi, haegeum type vibes fr fr, grinding, finger sucking, the reader is down bad, but so is yoongi, kissing, sucking,
“You’ll do amazing, really!” Bunny - your co-worker - says as she pats the highlighter upon your cheekbones. “You’re already on your way to becoming a favorite.”
You take a deep breath and nod.
“Please stay focused. We have very important people tonight.”
And there it was, your nerves kicking back in once more.
You only been here for a week - the high end strip club is more than you imagined. You often thought it would be littered with creeps and smelt of cheap booze and cigarettes - but maybe you just chose the right one.
Your name is being called now and from behind the curtains, you notice the lights dim, and the red spotlight appears. You clicked your heels, rounding the curtain and made your way towards the middle of the stage. It’s amazing how you were able to turn your nerves off when needed be - you were highly grateful that you didn’t need any liquid courage to do so.
Bunny was correct when she said it would be a busy night - and the important people she spoke of had to be front and center. You sway your hips to the pole, hooking a leg around it and swinging as you do - a routine you practiced for the past two days.
You often don’t look into the crowd while performing - you were a natural overthinker and the last thing you needed was to mess up in front of a group of men. However, this was different. You had important people here tonight and your boss informed each dancer tonight to “appear” available and interested.
You regret taking her advice.
You drop to your knees slow and sultry, crawling towards the edge of the stage. Smoking typically wasn't allowed, but important guests always got their way. Your eyes focus on the man smoking and you froze.
Those eyes - such cold and feline-like eyes. They flash in your mind and you were brought back to your childhood; specifically your teenage years. As the smoke clears, as does your vision on the man - pale, porcelain-like skin, hard eyes and a low smirk on his lips.
Yoongi.
Min Yoongi was before you. He was the important guest tonight - he looked it. Even in the sea of people, you can smell the expensive cologne mixed with the nicotine smell. He appeared clean shaven and had not aged since you last saw him a decade prior.
Yoongi brings the cigarette back into his lips, his fingers curling as he does so. Your eyes glance to his hands, large and veiny and full of shining diamonds.
Your eyes begin to grow dry and you blink. You finally inhale to not have your head go any more lightheaded than necessary.
You hear a hiss of your name and your body immediately reacts. You begin to crawl once more, your eyes on nobody but Yoongi now. He furrows a brow and appears amused and curious.
Min Yoongi was before you.
Your Min Yoongi.
The same Min Yoongi that your father despised - called him a thug and everything but a decent human being. Father’s never approved of their little girls being hooked on an older man - but he was only two years older; if that. The same Min Yoongi who you had once admitted to loving during too many drinks and even when you insisted on showing him you weren’t a little girl, he never took advantage of your advances.
Min Yoongi was before you now - and you weren’t a teenager anymore. You were a woman that grew into her curves and appearance, and you were determined to show him just that.
It’s crazy to think that just one look at him made you feel as you did as a teenager - shy, but willing, giddy and wanting to prove yourself to him.
Yoongi leans closer to the stage just as you lean forward. Your manicured hand grasps his large ones and grasps the cigarette. You were never a smoker - he knows this. But he only smirks as you take a puff of it and blow it at him.
Your time was up, but your eyes linger onto Yoongi’s longer as you exit the stage. You feel it all fall on you at once - the nerves and nausea. Yoongi was here. He had seen you like this - what was he thinking? Has he remembered you?
“What was that?” Bunny heels slam against the floor as she rushes to you. “Do you know who that is?”
Yes. “No.”
Bunny’s eyes widened. “You don’t know who Suga is?”
Suga. Yoongi must have made another name for himself. He was once someone your father considered bad news and you can only guess what he was into back then - but Yoongi is a man now. He surrounded himself with men, him directly in the middle. He was an important member of whatever society he ran with; you didn’t really care much to ask.
“I was told to entertain the guests.” you shrug your shoulders. “Suga seems to be a very important person.”
Bunny nods with wide eyes. “Extremely. He dabbles in organized crime and is one of our biggest spenders here. You-”
“Y/N.”
You freeze, as does Bunny.
“I’m dead.” you murmur to Bunny who slowly nods.
Your boss’ eyes are upon you when you turn. Her arms are crossed as she motions you to follow her.
“I-I didn’t mean-”
“You aren’t in trouble.” your boss murmurs as you saunter towards her. “Seems like your little stunt caught Suga’s eye. He never pays for a dance.”
Yoongi did remember you.
Your heart races as your boss points to the back rooms, the further room in the back. The only room without a camera.
You look yourself over in the mirror. Your hair appeared to be in place still, as did your makeup. Your lingerie hugs you nicely and your heels were just an added bonus.
It grows hotter and quieter as you make your way down the hall to the back room - a V.I.P section. You slide the door open and make your way in. Yoongi is seated upon the round, leather section. The room is surrounded with mirrors and low lights. On the table forward him is a large bottle of champagne - the most expensive there was at the club - and two glasses.
“Sit.” Yoongi says as you close the door behind you. He goes to pour both glasses of champagne, handing you one as you round the table.
“Thank you.” you murmur. It takes everything in you not to melt - but you are grown now and no longer the shy teenage girl.
You sit on his lap, legs swinging to trap him between your thighs. Your eyes meet his as you drink the champagne.
Yoongi’s pink tongue coats his lips as he leans back into the couch. He doesn’t go to move you from your laps, and even if you did, you wouldn’t leave without a fight. After all, he paid for your services - private dances weren’t cheap and especially not in the V.I.P backroom.
You discard your glass beside you without a care, licking your own lips.
“Y/N…Y/N…”
Your arms are fresh with goosebumps when you hear his voice say your name. He down the champagne, free hand rubbing against your thigh to your waist.
“How much you’ve grown since the last time I saw you.” Yoongi finally says as he finishes the champagne, discarding his own glass to the side.
“I can say the same for you…” you begin to roll your hips. “...Suga.” All the girls are informed to not be so close to a client. They paid for a certain amount of time - and in that time you were told to stall, only sitting upon them at the last few minutes of the dance.
Yoongi’s hands are as large as you know them to be, both now cupping your waist.
“How is it that when my name comes from your lips it sounds sweeter than ever before?”
Yoongi’s eyes rack over your figure.
You were no longer the little girl who followed him around against her father’s wishes. No, you were now a woman - a full grown woman who grew into her chest and hips. He recalls the amount of times he (against your own knowledge) would have to assure no creep used your naivety to their advantage.
Yoongi’s girl is what they called you - even back then. No matter how much he told anyone that you were nothing but a close friend to him; someone he would protect because he had a heart.
“Where have you been?” Yoongi allows his curiosity to get the best of him. He was no fool in knowing the pure hatred your father had for him - even if Yoongi never took advantage of your feelings for him. When you were old enough to consider making your own decision, you were shipped far away from Daegu - and that was ten years ago.
You continued your lap dance, your hands placing themselves on his shoulders. Yoongi is but a man and his eyes rack your figure in the tight lingerie, large hands rubbing up your side with a lick of his lips once more.
“My dad sent me to live with my aunt and continue school there.” you respond. “I came back when he got sick.”
Yoongi furrows a brow. Your father was sick. He hasn’t seen the man since he last saw you.
“Dropped out of school to take care of him. Now I’m here.” you roll your hips against the bulge forming in his pants. “With you.”
Yoongi feels your hands rub from his shoulders to his torso.
“What about you, Suga? You seem to have made a name for yourself.”
Yoongi was being far too modest for your liking. You grasp his hands in yours, eyes staring right into his. You allow his hands to roam your body, setting them right onto your breasts.
“I have.” Yoongi murmurs, voice deeper. “I own this city now, baby.”
You swallow at the pet name, leaning closer. You want to capture his lips with your own - they were so rosy and soft.
“I bet you do.” you murmur, warm breath against his lips. “Does someone run it with you?”
Yoongi tilts his head. He gives you a snicker. “You still got that crush, huh?” he teases. He squeezes your breast lightly before his right hand cups your check.
You grow hot at his words, swallowing thickly. You wouldn’t allow him to treat you like the same little girl you once were. You were an adult - you were in control of your own desires.
“It’s more than a crush now. I’m not a little girl.”
Yoongi knows this - he wants to tell you just how much you’ve grown since the last time he saw you.
“I can show you how much it’s grown.”
Yoongi can’t take his eyes from you. Your tongue peeks out and wraps around his thumb. You suck on it, eyes boring into his own. His cock twitches at the sultry act.
“Y/N…”
You moved fast. From sucking onto his thumb to your lips upon his. Your thighs clenched him beneath you tightly, never wanting to let go.
Yoongi loses himself in your touch, arms wrapping around your bare body, touching skin he never knew he would ever long to touch.
Your tongue dances with him, his hands cupping your ass, guiding you to continue to grind against his bulge.
“I want you, Yoongi.” you murmur against his lips.
“I know, baby.” Yoongi grunts. “I know…”
Your teeth clasps down onto his bottom lips, fingernails digging into his shoulders. “Then take me.”
Yoongi shudders, holding onto you even tighter.
“You can have me. All of me.”
Yoongi shakes his head, breathing quickening. Your words ring in his ears non-stop.
“I want to be your girl.” you continue - you refused to hear anything other than approval. “You can have all of me right now and forever.”
Yoongi lips are against the skin of your neck, placing open-mouthed kisses. Your words are getting to him, his cock begging to take you.
But you weren’t a common whore - not just some pussy to wet his cock. You were someone he cared for deeply.
“You are my girl.”
Your lips meet his once more and your heart feels satisfied - it’s the same words you wanted to hear for years now.

Phylum Round 3
Tumblr media
Annelida: Segmented Worms. This group includes earthworms, leeches, and many classes under the umbrella of “polychaete”. This diverse phylum encompasses deposit feeders (eating dirt), detritivores, scavengers, deadly ambush predators, filter feeders, parasites, herbivores, and more. They are broadly defined by their repeating body segments and parapodia, which are nubby appendages used for both movement and breathing. Some have curved jaws for catching prey or scraping detritus off of rocks, while others have wide, elaborate, brightly colored feather-like fans for filter feeding. While able to crawl freely, a majority of marine Annelids spend most of their time in self-built tubes or burrows. Among their many important functions, they play a key role in mixing soil/sediment, breaking down decaying organic matter, and providing a key food source to countless other animals.
Cnidaria: Jellyfish, anemones, corals, box jellies, and hydroids. They have a gelatinous body with radial symmetry, a decentralized nervous system, and tentacles surrounding a simple mouth. The defining feature of this phylum are their cnidocytes, or stinging cells. There are two different body plans of the Cnidaria; an immobile “polyp” attached to a surface, or a free-living “medusa” which can swim or drift in the water column. Many polyp Cnidarians, such as corals, live in colonies. Some corals build reefs which serve as habitat for other animals. Free-living medusa Cnidarians must return to the seafloor in a polyp-like stage as a part of their life cycle.

Classic Literature Sexyperson Tournament; Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda:
Quincey:
quincey deserves #1 sexyman prize. he is the token cowboy. in a gothlit book. his first instinct when in danger in to randomly shoot through windows to (scare the shit out of) protect his friends. he decided he would literally die for a group of people he met like 3 hours ago because they seemed nice enough. he's texan for christ's sake. tropes: angst (dead), bait, distinctive voice, LGTBQ+ coded (dracula polycule is canon bram told me so), himbo (-ish), well dressed (cowboy).
Dracula:
owwsaawoagghb. older gentleman who is very regal and polite and is a fucking vampire how much sexier can you get
Obv everyone knows vampire sexy. The sensuality of drinking blood is *chef's kiss*. But I just really wanted an excuse to share this one thing, that isn't even related directly to the novel. So, my junior year of high school we read Dracula, and then our class went on a field trip to see a local theatre group perform the Dracula stage play-- and EVERY TIME Dracula came on stage, his neckline would progressively dip Lower and Lower (like. Comedically so) until he was soooo close to showing just straight up tiddie, but still juuuust barely not-- the tease was immaculate and istg it was doing Something for everyone in the audience. It was transcendent. An awakening. Even all these years later when my old high school friends and I bring it up, the only detail we can remember from that performance is Count Dracula's plunging neckline and that's Gotta count for something right

Cameras flashed all around the carpet, you embodied every new pose for each camera and revealed a few smiles.
“Y/N look this way!”
“You look amazing!”
After ending a few shots you walked across the carpet trying to get into the venue, that was until you crossed paths with a group of men. One of them bumped into your body frame when you tried walking into the entry of the venue, your hands plopped from the front of your dress.
“Oh- I’m sorry.” You perked up to see a man in a black suit, somewhere between your age, if not older. And you swore you recognized him from somewhere. But you weren’t sure from where.
“I’m sorry, miss.” His accent was thick. You stood by thinking for a second until it hit you—
“¿Enzo?” The tone of your voice seemed with excitement that you couldn’t hold back.
“¿Sí?” He replied with a questionable style, but his lips showed a smile.
You extended your arms in a way of surprise. Meeting other celebrities that you were a fan of because of their work would always get you so hyped up. You still were not used to the fact of meeting other celebrities in person, not just through the screen. “¡No puedo creer que estés aquí! Soy T/N, gran fan tuya—” You shake your head placing your hand on your opened chest. “Excelente trabajo que hiciste en la Sociedad de la Nieve.”
His smile only grew with your praise. It was the hugest one you had ever seen, it almost made you wonder if it didn’t hurt his cheeks. “Ay, pero vos—” he copies your motion of putting his hand on his chest with a small pout of warmness. “Me fascina tu trabajo.”
The both of you kept on lauding each other with so many compliments, that at this moment everybody had seen the two of you together. But for both of it felt like you were just having a normal conversation as two friends, not even two people that had just met.
“Vi que estás nominada a mejor actriz.” He mentions.
Your head nodded with excitement, excitement that you couldn’t hold back. You were so happy to be here and thankful as well that all your hard work got you to where you once wanted to be.
“Estoy muy emocionada pero también muy nerviosa.”
“Ya verás que ganas, vos sos la mejor.” He gave you a side smile with a wink that didn’t seem flirtatious but more friendly. “Y si no, no pasa nada. Un premio no define tus logros y gran trabajo.”
“Ay gracias.” You blushed at his compliment.
The both of you walked into the venue of the Oscars. You had to part ways but you wished each other the best of luck before you went to your respective seats. The nerves inside you never stopped and continued to tremble through the night. Even more with how close they would get to the best actress.
You were trying to repeat the words Enzo had told you. Even if you didn’t win you were still proud and happy to be one of the nominees. That is something that shows how big of an accomplishment you’ve made and it makes you nothing but proud.
When the host got the envelope that revealed who was the winner of tonight’s best actress, your heart felt like it was running the mile.
“And the nominees for best actress are—”
Each of the actresses began to appear on the screen, including yourself, with scenes from the movies. Each of you had a round of applause that made you smile, from the nerves and happiness. This was it.
“And the Oscar goes to—” The screen lit up with all the nominees having a camera facing towards them.
From where Enzo sat he looked only at you through the screen. He smiled seeing how you couldn’t hide your shakiness and nervousness, but also excitement.
“YN. Later On Tonight.” Enzo watched the moment your face went into shock as you did a little jump before turning to look at your co-stars who had the same reaction as you.
The venue erupted into clapping, Enzo with them. He watched how you raised from your chair and walked over towards the stage, your dress slightly dragged on the shiny floor, but it wasn’t important at the moment. Enzo watched how you accepted your Oscar and how you stared at it with shock in the eyes, he was honestly proud.
He thought you looked beautiful, your dress was a light shade of green, your hair was half up and the intention was for it to look messy, for you had a couple of strands on your face. Your makeup wasn’t much, but you could still notice it. There was a little glittery eyeshadow on your eyes and your lips were a tinted strawberry red. You looked like a princess to him.
“Wow, This— I don’t know how to start.” You giggled out of shock. “Thank you so much to everyone in the crew, my parents, friends, and agent, I wouldn’t be here tonight accepting this award if it wasn’t for any of you. I am so grateful, and all of the nominees tonight you all are amazing in what you do, big fan of all of you.”
Your lips let out a sight trying to think, you were able to make contact with Enzo who only smiled and stared softly. You thought of how to finalize your speech.
“A wonderful person tonight told me, and I quote, “Un premio no define tus logros y gran esfuerzo” An award does not define your accomplishments and great effort, and they are right. So to anyone who doesn’t win tonight, or didn't, just know you are amazing at what you do, you are still the best and already winners. Thank you so much.” You raise the Oscar in the air. When you glanced towards Enzo once more you noticed his smile.
He watched you run towards your friends immediately embracing each other in a huge hug. He watched how you jumped up and down, to what he found cute. He watched how you snapped a picture with the award and a silly smile. He assumed your reasons were to show a loved one the award.
You looked pure, mesmerizing. He felt the necessity to snap a picture of your moment and send it to you. You needed this framed. Maybe his way of starting a conversation with you after the events. When he took the picture, he captured you smiling with the Oscar in one hand and covering your mouth in shock with the other.
He’ll see when he sends it.
After all, you'll answer. Will be surprised, but you'll answer.

summary. yoon jeonghan is like art in a museum. look don't touch kinda deal. so, what happens when your idiot best friend dares you to kiss him during a drunken game of truth and dare? let's find out...
pairing. jock! y.jh x reader wc. 1k warnings. mentions of murder (lighthearted), profanity, bestie! mingyu genre. fluffy fluff, jeonghan is very aditya kashyap coded in this. a/n. requested by a lovely anon! this feels so cliche but I love cliches so here you go! hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Tumblr media
you were going to murder kim mingyu one of these days.
your head hadn't even hit the pillow after your designated midnight 'talk' with him that he had gone and woken up the rest of the dorm to play a game of truth or dare.
you had agreed, strictly telling him that you would be staying for only one round of the game. a girl needs her beauty sleep after all.
what started as one single round with barely 5 people from dorm was now going strong on round 5 with all 17 people in the dorm sitting on the floor in varying stages of drunkenness, save for a few who were still sober, including you and yoon jeonghan.
yoon jeonghan, the captain of the soccer team and also the guy you've been crushing on since high school. by pure coincidence, the two of you ended up in the same university and in the same major AND in the same friend group! it truly felt like the universe was on your side with this one.
your fantasies were interrupted by the shrill sound of someone mingyu squealing. you looked to find the cause of his sudden excitement only to find the bottle had landed on you. you looked back up at him only to find him staring at you, a sinister glint in his eyes. with an overly saccharine tone, he asks you,
"y/nie, truth or dare? you have to pick dare by the way, you picked truth twice in a row already so."
"then why'd you ask the question, dipshit?"
you heard a low chuckle come from your side. you look to find the source of the sound, only to see jeonghan looking at you. your staring contest is abruptly ended by the sound of mingyu aggressively clearing his throat..
"so, y/nie, your dare is..." he looks around the room, trying to find a dare for you to do. his wandering eyes finally land on him.
"your dare is... kiss the person sitting on your right! and a proper kiss, not just a peck." he says while the circle starts cheering at his dare.
to others, the cheering might seem unnecessary but there's some context behind this. context being, the guy sitting on you right is yoon jeonghan. despite his whole jock persona, jeonghan is a strict one-woman man. and kissing people for dares is not a thing he does. not even if he's single.
so, knowing him, you don't even bother to ask him before reaching for your drink. the group starts boo-ing at you as you lift the cup.
all at once, someone is snatching the cup from your hands while simultaneously pulling you back into their lap. you look behind you, only to find yoon jeonghan staring at you with a smirk gracing his lips.
you scramble to get off his lap, but he effortlessly manhandles you into facing him and for a moment, it's just you and him. he moves a lock of hair behind your ear and asks you quietly,
"do you hate me that much?"
you feel like a fucking teenager all over again, sputtering and stuttering out an answer,
"n-no, it's just that... you don't do st-stuff like this."
"stuff like what?"
"kissing people for dares kinda stuff."
he looks confused at your statement. and his hands, still on your waist, aren't exactly helping you give him an answer. you muster up every last ounce of confidence in your body and tell him,
"jeonghan, the entire university knows about your 'one-woman man' agenda. you've never kissed a girl for a dare, ever."
he blanks for a second before laughing. not a giggle or a chuckle, but a full out laugh. everyone else in the room is extremely confused at his sudden burst of laughter, the two of you had been conversing in hushed voices and whispers, and now he was laughing?
you look at him incredulously, a little offended at his sudden burst of laughter. he looks at you through teary eyes and immediately stops laughing. amidst the chaos, he asks you a question,
"y/n, did you, maybe, ever consider the possibility of you being my one-woman?"
you visibly malfunction at his question. you get off his lap and go outside the dorm to the patio to clear your head. you don't see jeonghan get up and run after you.
the two of you stand in silence until you decide to break the ice,
"since when?"
he looks at you before sighing heavily, "since freshman year, i think?"
"of university? so 4 years!"
he shakes his head.
"of high school. so... 8 years, actually," he says with a small smile.
you stare at him, wide eyed and completely thrown off your axis. he's liked you longer than you've liked him? actually, you only knew of his existence in sophomore year, so he's liked you since before you knew he existed?!
lost in your thoughts you don't see him come closer to you.
"y/n."
you look up at his call of your name only to find him standing right in front of him. like close enough that your lips could touch if you stood upright. he looks down at you with a soft gaze and informs you,
"we still didn't finish the dare."
you look up at him and then look to the door, when your classmates were peeking as though you wouldn't have seen then from a mile away
in an attempt to be petty and still do the dare, despite your current predicament, you grab jeonghan by the collar of his shirt and pull him down to meet him halfway.
jeonghan, despite his initial shock at your sudden move, immediately kisses you back, his hands finding solace on your waist.
the entire dorm erupts in hoots and cheers, successfully resulting in the faculty dorm waking up.
jeonghan just laughs and tugs you back into the dorm, straight onto his bed. the two of you end up in each other's arms, laughing and happy. as the two of you drift off to dreamland, you only have one thing on your mind.
maybe you owe mingyu a blind date with one of your friends for his efforts.

Congratulations to Dainix, the Trans Webcomic Character Tournament winner! He has taken home the championship with over 2,200 votes, the most of any character in any single round.
Zhusen ends the tournament in second place, having won every match except her group stage and championship face-offs with Dainix.
Despite a strong last-day rally, Lucy Marlowe fell just a few votes short in their final contest. White Chain takes third, and Lucy a very close fourth.
It’s been a great tournament, and I hope everyone has found at least one new comic you enjoy! Thanks for helping make this happen <3

a few days ago you had promised taehyun that you would come with him to his final hockey game for the season. in exchange, he made a promise to take you out on a date after, regardless if he wins or not.
and that led you to this very moment.
the sports venue was quite big, just the right size for the local games, with the building accommodating two rinks for figure skaters on the other side and ice hockey on the side you're on, in which you're seated by the acrylic panels so you were one of the closest to the rink.
just for taehyun.
he's the sole reason you've bought new outerwear and accessories to keep you warm within the rink, you even bought a jersey jumper with the colours of the team he is in. perhaps you went the extra mile and personalised it with his surname and birth date number.
"I hope you'll come to my hockey game this weekend. it's the last one for the season and it would mean a lot to me if you came along. and then afterwards I'll promise to take you on a date, please?"
his words echoed in your head as if he had told you just before you arrived at the sports venue. a smile had started creeping up on your face as you remembered the way he almost begged you to go on a date with him; his eyes gentle and his hand enveloped yours.
taehyun's team, rockets, had plenty of fans. some being seated a few rows behind you on your far left. it wasn't hard to miss them from the way you could hear high pitched squeals as soon as the players for rockets stepped their hockey skates onto the ice, watching the team skate past you one by one.
as each player glided past you, the cheers for the team were non-stop, whistles, screams and chants behind you. yet you managed to block them out a little — as if the lack of sounds would help you see better — and your eyes were darting around to look out for one player in particular.
then the crowd started to cheer significantly louder than before. that's when your eyes locked with a pair of large, round ones that had a familiar hold on yours. he sent you a subtle wave paired with a quick wink, and you thank god that you were sat at the front to catch that.
you waved your blue and red striped scarf, that you had bought just for him, as you called out for him and his team name as an attempt to hide the fact you could feel your cheeks heating up.
but taehyun noticed. you couldn't hide that from him.
the game wasn't going to start for another thirty minutes since the players were gliding around for their on-ice warm ups. you observed the way players would get comfortable on the ice, taking in long strides, others in smaller groups to do their crossover drills from one end of the rink to the other.
you noticed some of the crowd coming closer around you, to the acrylic panels since they were able to stand there within the duration of practice up until the puck drop. luckily you remained in your seat and was still able to have some space around you.
a call of your name caught your attention, but you knew it wasn't taehyun's voice from the sounds of it. a player from the opposing team, wearing the black and white kit, had slowed down skating in front of you, and attempted to spark your attention but you remained neutral and kept a tight lipped smile.
"yah! penguin. shouldn't you be on the other side of the rink?" your ears focus on taehyun's voice, muffling the sounds around you.
knowing taehyun, he was just being protective over you but you still had to make sure he didn't get into any fights. the game hadn't even started yet. he made his way past the opposing player, gliding past him as he slowed down right against the acrylic and knocked on it.
you okay? he mouthed at you with a little nod of assurance.
you gave him a soft smile with two thumbs up to give back the reassurance, but taehyun still felt compelled to stay a few seconds longer. he gave you a knowing look with a head tilt and brows raised slightly, but you couldn't help but laugh a little at his determination to make sure you were okay. again, you noded and smiled as you moved your wrists flicking outwards in a 'shoo' motion so he could get back into warming up with no distractions.
it was amusing that that was the first time taehyun behaved assertively in front of another player outside of the game. he usually had good sportsmanship with all players, however, this time around it seemed as thought he was more bothered than you were.
watching taehyun was nothing out of the norm for you since you always offered to come with him during his practices, admiring the way his skin glowed and reflected the light from the ice below him. watching the way he moved from one side of the rink to the other with steady and swift movements while in control of passing the puck was something you were always amazed about.
there had been a few cases when taehyun was free on the ice, face turning to look straight at you since he always knew where you would sit, and once he had your attention he'd quickly wave at you. you knew if you were on the ice yourself you would melt right through.
*:・゚❅・゚
after a good twenty minutes of the game, the first intermission had started. the teams made their way to their designated sides off the rink, rehydrating and even getting something to nibble on within the fifteen minutes they had.
some players came back onto the rink five minutes before the game resumed, skating to their assigned places. meanwhile you kept your eyes out for your best friend, but the same player from the opposing team made a return towards you.
you noticed but you paid him no attention, keeping that same tight lipped smile while your eyes were darting everywhere but in front of you.
he knocked on the clear barrier, and mouthed 'can I get your number?' and gestured his hand to a phone sign in which you slowly shook your head and mouthed a 'sorry'. he didn't seem to take it and asked again, begging at this point. you were about to shake your head again until a player in blue and red skimmed behind him and backed him up against the clear panel.
you stood up to get a better look and it was no other than taehyun. he was about to grab the other player by the collar of their kit until you had your hand flat on the surface and banging it against the acrylic three times to grasp his attention. taehyun's fist didn't reach the collar, thankfully, catching the worry in your eyes and he retracted his unravelling fist.
a sigh left you as you saw him back up from his opponent, your head shaking slowly at him while you mouth 'it's okay'. he was lucky he hadn't gone ahead with it otherwise it'd led to a five-minute major penalty towards him. he still had two thirds of the game left.
once you sat back down in your seat, you readied yourself for the next twenty minutes of the game. the teams were back in their designated sides of the rink, and taehyun was set in his position as center.
you focused on him, knees slightly bent, hands holding the hockey stick and his concentration on the center before the referee dropped the puck. he hits the puck as soon as it collided with the ice, and his movements remained swift and sharp as he and his teammates led the puck to the other side of the rink.
it was clear seeing the puck passed from taehyun, center, to the left winger then right winger, but so many players blocked your vision. it had you thinking the puck had been taken by the opposing team, though in a fraction of a second your ears were filled with the crowd cheering. from the sounds of it rockets had scored a goal, and you looked up at the screen above the rink to watch a quick replay of who scored the goal.
it was no other than the star player who has your heart.
you stood up, cheering and clapping, waving your scarf as you try and find him in your field of vision. almost as if you were in a movie, the hockey players skated aside and taehyun's skating towards his original position, facing you. you could see his teethy smile as he pointed out at you, hearing a few 'ooh's and whistles from the audience.
the pounding in your chest felt like it was about to burst and the heat crawling up to your cheeks were starting to burn you up. you shook your head at him again, this time sheepishly, as you bit the inside of your cheek, refraining your grin but you couldn't hold out and let out an endearing laugh.
*:・゚❅・゚
it was the second and last intermission of the overall game. the game time period had just finished up nicely, rockets' scores in the lead with nine and the opposing team with five. you had a good feeling about rockets winning the final twenty minutes of the game.
there were about eight minutes left of the intermission before they resumed the game, so you made your way through the row to the restroom.
as you walked down the corridor to find the toilets you felt a loose grasp on your wrist, making your gasp hitch in your throat and turn your head to see just the person you couldn't wait to see until the end of the game.
"tae, what are you doing here?" you whispered at him, the confusion on your face clear as day.
"I was too excited, I wanted to see you."
you noticed the way his slightly damp and dishevelled hair was grazing just by his brows, his face glowing from the sheer layer of sweat. and his eyes steady on yours.
"well," you slid your wrist out of his hold and played with his fingers. "we still have that date later tonight, remember?"
you looked up at him and you see a proud smirk on his lips, nodding his head slowly in attempt to keep in his excitement. but the rose hue on his cheeks were a big giveaway.
"I'll see you later then. I'll do my best for you, keep your eyes on me."
taehyun lifted your hand and lightly pressed his lips against the back of your fingers. the familiar feeling of your heart about to burst in your chest returned, and you caught the way the tips of his ears blushed the same pink tinge you saw earlier.
"do your best, my star player." you smiled at him, and he let out a soft scoff intertwined with his laugh. watching him walk away to get back onto the rink and finally letting you go to the restroom.
walking into the restroom you slammed your hands flat on the countertop beside the sink, looking at your reflection in disbelief.
"my star player?! really?" your expression changed when you repeated it again, smiling at yourself and shaking your head. "I must be out of my mind."
you can't believe how fast your feelings were brewing for your best friend. there's always been this unspoken dynamic between you, indirect words that mean something a little more, looks that only has your heart fluttering in your chest — and his. gestures that tended to linger and only either one of you would notice that it was a second longer than what would be considered 'platonic'.
snapping out of your reverie you went to use the toilet before making your way back to your seat. you had the final twenty minutes left and then the evening to talk to taehyun properly.
*:・゚
there were five minutes left until the game was over, and during this game the opposing team had scored three times, bringing the current score for rockets with nine, still, and the opposing team with eight.
you hoped the game wouldn't end in a tie. it would be a shame to end the final game of the season in a tie. rockets were doing so well throughout the past two game, but this third game seemed to be the opposite of what they call 'the charm'.
"come on, come on. just one more point." you whispered to yourself, chanting nervously. your hands gripped onto your jacket, taking it off and revealing your customised jersey jumper reading 'KANG' with '05' underneath in bold.
as soon as you were sat comfortably, you checked the time once more; just under four minutes until the end of the game.
one last point and you'd be celebrating later in the evening.
you watched the puck passed around by the opposing team, almost accepting defeat until the players started skating towards the other end of the rink. rockets had the puck by their sticks and from all you could see, it was being passed repeatedly between the left winger and left defence. losing sight of it again it seems like the right winger had it until you saw taehyun receiving it.
with an extremely quick knock of his hockey stick against the puck, it flew into the goal for the final time this season and the speakers let out the horn indicating the end of the game. the screen above showed the final scores, rockets - 10 / guests - 8.
just in time, and your star player was surrounded by his teammates, each of them skating up to him and knocking the front of their helmets together. watching him being congratulated by his team was so endearing to watch — especially knowing just how much work he's put into this sport, knowing how much he loves it.
the crowd behind you was still full of cheers, whistles and chanting. but your eyes were fixed on taehyun as he took his helmet off, his hair a little more damp and dishevelled compared to when you saw him during the second intermission. that didn't stop him from looking incredible with his face literally glowing from his sweat and the ice reflecting off of the droplets.
he made a beeline towards you for the last time on the ice, a huge grin adorned on his face along with his asymmetrical dimple making an appearance.
was it because his team won? perhaps. was it because you were wearing the jersey with his name and birth date? most likely.
his smile was too contagious you didn't realise when you started smiling so hard, you were laughing a little too. the continuous cheers had you joining in, clapping towards taehyun, all while he mouthed a 'meet me by the foyer'.
after the crowd started moving, you made your way straight to the foyer, watching the audience walk past you as they exited the venue.
you're leaning against a pillar, watching the last strand of the light in the sky disappear through the floor to ceiling glass panels as your stomach was filled up with butterflies from the thought of going on a date with your best friend and making it a joint celebratory dinner.
a pair of hands abruptly weighed your shoulders down, having your heart leap out of your chest as you turn around to a giggly and cheerful taehyun.
"tyun! you were amazing out there!" you exclaimed, jumping up to hug him with your arms over his shoulders and his bag sliding down his arm, only hugging you with one arm around your waist.
"yeah well, I had to put on my best. you were watching." you playfully nudged his arm, biting back your grin but his was too contagious to hold back. "no but seriously, the team did so well tonight. they're going out to celebrate, actually."
your smile faltered in the littlest bit, thinking carefully before you asked him.
"do you want to go too? we can always rain check the date... if you want? I don't mind, seriously." you felt the guilt appear inside you, not wanting to hold him back. you saw how happy he was out there and it wasn't all the time you saw taehyun like that.
"hey, no." taehyun shrugged his bag strap to hang from his shoulder, and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, slowly walking out the exit together to toward the car park. "I have a date to go to and I wouldn't want to miss that for the world. I see those blokes almost every week anyway, I'll live."
taehyuns words brought the flutter back in your chest and you raised your hand to hold onto his that's hanging over your shoulder. the evening air was cool and taehyun's freshly washed hair was finally out of his face. from the angle you could see, he was literally the definition of perfection in your books.
letting his words process in your head, all you managed to say was, "ah, you're so cheesy." you let go of his hand to open the car door, sitting inside as you waited for him to put his stuff in the trunk and sit in the driver's seat.
"yeah, but you like it though." his voice had a playful tone, probably with a smile on his face, it was dark in the car. he wasn't even looking at you, buckling his seatbelt and inserting the key to start the car.
yeah. I do.
*:・゚❅・゚
it's almost been an hour since taehyun dropped you home to get ready and he did the same. you texted him saying that you were done and just waiting for him to pick you up, which didn't take too long because he fortunately didn't live too far away from you.
your phone's notification sound went off as he sent you a simple I'm outside text, but that was the norm with him. you grabbed your purse and shrugged on your coat over your dress, examining your final look through the body-length mirror in the hallway before unlocking the door.
a taehyun in a black button down, top button left undone and sleeves folded to a three quarters length up his forearm that matched nicely with his dark slacks was standing in front of you. and how could you look past the bouquet of red roses arranged with baby's breath, elegantly wrapped in decorative cellophane.
"for my beautiful date."
your lips formed a subtle pout as you retrieved the flowers from him, noticing the sheer bow wrapped around the stems.
"taehyun," your voice was meek, just audible enough until you cleared your throat. "these are stunning, thank you, handsome."
you walked back into the hallway to place them in an empty vase in which you emptied out a couple of days ago after you'd turned the old arrangement into dried flowers.
returning to the entrance, you released a heavy sigh while walking through the door, controlling yourself to not gawk at the gorgeous man stood on your porch.
"why?" taehyun stepped aside for you to shut and lock the door.
you could feel him hovering behind you, and you noticed his shadow casted over your shoulder and could be seen against the wooden door.
"because..." your voice trailed.
once you were done checking you had locked the door properly, you turned around, paying no attention that you were incredibly close to taehyun's face, his eyes darting to your lips before looking back up at your eyes. you lost your balance as your back almost crashed into the door if it wasn't for his hand resting on your lower back.
"because?" he parroted.
your chest was slightly heaving, knowing that he could potentially hear your heart drumming in your chest for the nth time that evening.
"um, because... we're gonna be late for our reservation." you hastily slid aside and walked towards his car as he trailed behind you, his hands in his pockets and letting out an amused scoff with an endeared smile on his face.
*:・゚
to your relief, you had arrived just in time for your private reservation and you had nothing to worry about. the restaurant was beautiful — it was elegant. the high ceiling with dark grey marble pillars in each corner of the room to withhold the structure. a contrast from the ligher shade of grey for the tiled flooring.
"how long until the next season?" you asked taehyun, curious as you fiddled with the corner of the napkin on the table.
despite being with taehyun almost on a daily basis, this was something you weren't used to. the atmosphere was a little different, a little thicker and laced with something that hasn't been spoken about, but it's there.
you were nervous. you knew that, taehyun knew that and he could definitely see that. he reached his hand over to scoop up your fingers gently into his, and the motion of his thumb skimming over your knuckles somewhat helped with those nerves.
"this season only finished a few hours ago, ___." the continuous movement of his calloused fingers against yours had calmed you down enough, but you couldn't manage to look him in the eye until he tugged on your hand lightly. "but probably not for another couple of months or so, we'll see."
you both held eye contact, the longest you managed ever since he picked you up from your house. he opened his mouth to say something but you had already beat him to it, starting to speak before you realised.
"I meant it when I said this, but you genuinely looked so happy out there on the rink." he listened and nodded as he let you continue. "just seeing you so passionate about what you love on the ice rink at first hand was amazing, honestly." you let out a half hearted chuckle.
"well, part of it's because you're there to support me. throughout my practices, trainings and today's game." it was your turn to caress the inside of his palm, letting him know that you'd always be there for him. "and I have something to say."
you nod, listening intently.
"if it wasn't for you supporting me throughout, I don't know if I would've even continued up until now. I got this far because of you. and I know you can sense... whatever this attraction is between us too. you're my best friend and always will be," he paused, noticing the way you bit the inside of your cheek. "but I also want to be your lover."
taehyun didn't know if it was the reflection from the hanging lights above you, but he swore your eyes lit up. you didn't know if you were going to cry because you almost thought you were getting friendzoned, or it was because taehyun had cleared the air and asked to be your lover.
worry washes over taehyun's face, setting aside his utensils as he picked up his napkin to lightly dab on the stray tear that fell without your knowledge. he cooed at you, and you weakly laughed at yourself.
"I was afraid you were going to friendzone me for a second." you had taehyun lightly scoff and slowly shook his head at you, but his gaze softened, brows relaxed and eyes twinkling. "I'd love you to be my lover, tyun. and I'll love you twice as much."
your tears brimmed at your eyes, threatening to fall one after the other until taehyun decided to get out of his chair and walk over to you, a knee on the ground while he cupped your cheek and cooed you with sweet, reassuring words.
"I'd be a fool if I friendzoned you," he dabbed away the tears towards the outer corner of your eyes, "you okay?"
you nodded your head in certainty, cupping his cheek and you noticed the way his eyes are so focused on you, holding the galaxy within. the eyes of your best friend filled with nothing but love and adoration for you.
"tyun?" he hums at you whispering his name. "can I kiss you?"
he huffed an exhale paired with a hopeful nod, and his eyes are focused on your lips.
"please do."
you both let out relieved sighs once your lips collided. his hand gently slid from your cheek to the back of your neck as he deepened the kiss, melting into one another's touch. his moan got caught in the back of his throat the moment he felt your teeth gingerly tugging on his bottom lip before parting the kiss.
"you're just full of surprises, aren't you?" he chuckled at your expression once you realised what you did.
"well, there's a first for everything, isn't there?" your tone smug with a hint of confidence, taehyun attempted to keep a stoic expression.
"that's so cheesy." he stood up, stroking the top of your head and tucking a few loose strands behind your ear.
"but you liked it though." you replied, and he returned to his seat, facing you with a defeated but pleased look on his face.
"yeah, I do"

#E3: Mawaru Penguindrum
youtube
Summary:
For the Takakura family, destiny is an ever-spinning wheel, pointing passionately in their direction with equal tides of joy and sorrow before ticking on to the next wishmaker. With their parents gone, twin brothers Kanba and Shouma live alone with their beloved little sister Himari, whose poor health cannot decline any further.
On the day Himari is given permission to temporarily leave the hospital, her brothers take her out to the aquarium to celebrate, where the family's supposed fate is brought forth with her sudden collapse. However, when Himari is inexplicably revived by a penguin hat from the aquarium's souvenir shop, the hand of fate continues to tick faithfully forward.
With her miraculous recovery, though, comes a cost: there is a new entity within her body, whose condition for keeping her fate at bay sends the boys on a wild goose chase for the mysterious "Penguin Drum." In their search, the boys will have to follow the threads of fate leading from their own shocking past and into the lives of other wishmakers vying for the Penguin Drum, all hoping to land upon their chosen destiny.
Propaganda:
Do you like weird artsy stuff? Do you love magical girls? How about weird, messed up character dynamics? Then boy oh boy, Mawaru Penguindrum is the show for you! The show starts out funny enough, but will quickly spiral into an intense and intricate plot, involving fate, the mafia, magical destiny-rewriting spells, and penguins. Which yes, before you ask, the funny penguins are in fact plot relevant.
Penguindrum isn’t really a show about all that stuff though, even though it is. It’s a very symbolic story, about living under the crushing heel of capitalism, and the quiet poison of the societally expected nuclear family dynamic. I could write an essay on each and every single one of the characters, as they’re all given a lot of depth and time to grow. Every character has their own baggage that, one way or another, ties back to someone else. Everyone in this show is connected in some way shape or form, and that’s really highlighted when everything starts to fall apart. Be warned: this show is NOT a light watch! If you’re the type of person who gets really into deciphering symbolism and creating your own meaning from pieces of media, then this show is for you!
Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse, Domestic Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Flashing Lights/Flickering Images, Gender Identity/Sexuality Discrimination, Guns, Incest, Kidnapping, Nudity, Pedophilia, Rape/Non-Con, Smoking, Suicide, Bomb Threats/Attempts and Terrorisim
It’s a very major plot point. This show is HEAVILY based off the 95 Tokyo Sarin Gas Attacks, so if content like that is triggering to you, tread lightly.

#E1: Are You Ok (You Yao)
Summary:
People from the modern world transmigrating into the ancient Chinese fantasy world has become a common and everyday occurrence that the royal court in the latter has decided to moderate them. If you’re a transmigrator, you must report your existence to Lou Zhu, the master of Best Tower. Once you pass his test and prove that you are indeed a modern person, you can then be assigned to work in different areas of the government and be given a high salary.
Because of this promised benefit, many impostors have showed up before Lou Zhu. And one day, Zuo Yunqi takes this test as well. Is he an impostor, or is he an actual modern person?
But some transmigrators also choose to hide their existence out of distrust in the government. Where are they? And with their advanced knowledge on science and technology, what are they planning in the dark?
Elsewhere, other transmigrators find themselves in all sorts of situations—an art student is detained and forced to come up with a recipe for a poisonous meal, while another is stuck sharing a body with the original soul and fighting for its control. Meanwhile, unrest rises in the Jianghu and a storm brews in the palace. Can our transmigrators’ modern knowledge save the day? Or will their lack of understanding in the current world lead to their downfall?
Propaganda:
Often in transmigration stories, the locals are portrayed as “backward” and “ignorant” to make the modern characters seem intelligent and progressive. The latter are then hailed as geniuses or pioneers, but in You Yao this isn’t the case.
You Yao deconstructs the transmigration genre and explores its possibilities. The system that moderates the transmigrators really puts them in their place and curbs their arrogance. And when in Rome, do as the Romans do. No matter how “smart” they may be, they are still subjects of the Emperor.
Besides, modern knowledge doesn’t always prove to be useful. An educated man like Lou Zhu is considered illiterate because he cannot read Traditional Chinese. His assistant has to first translate them into Simplified 😂
Moreover, this world they’re in has elements of wuxia (martial arts with superpowers). How can a modern person who grew up in a safe environment protect oneself in such a setting? They can only ask the locals to protect them.
So, transmigrators are not necessarily superior to the locals—which I like because it lets us look at the locals’ strengths and appreciate them as well.
You Yao features an ensemble cast, by the way, and all of them, both locals and transmigrators, are endearing. There are also several canon BL couples, with each pair marking the different sub-plots of the show. Just don’t expect any explicit gay confirmation because it’s limited by Chinese censorship, after all. But even then, it managed to be as fruity as it could be (the S1 ED is literally an angsty love song about the second gay pairing).
In regard to setting, it’s a genius mix of ancient Chinese fantasy and modern technology. Best Tower looks like a traditional Chinese pagoda on the outside, but on the inside it’s like a mall, complete with different entertainment venues and even a milk tea shop! It even has an “elevator,” but since electricity hasn’t been invented yet, it’s just powered by different men (in fancy uniforms) on bicycles.
You Yao is really creative in presenting what could happen when you forcefully mix the old and the new. This allows a lot of hilarious situations, but it also highlights the dichotomy of tradition and modernity, making viewers question which changes are actually good and bad.
Can the Emperor really be that benevolent when plenty of people with knowledge beyond his keep popping up? And how can all transmigrators be content in following this world’s backward laws? What happens when one side tries to dominate and eradicate the other?
You Yao may give off that silly sitcom vibe, but it’s actually so much more than that. I don’t wanna spoil anything, so all I can say is that it’s gonna make you laugh a lot, and once your guard is lowered it’s gonna sucker-punch you in the gut. Vote You Yao.
Trigger warnings: Guns, kidnapping, and imprisonment. Nothing too dark, though.

Hi again! Alright I'm a sucker for the au where they have the first words the other is going to say to them tattooed somewhere I think it's mostly on the wrist or the one where they have a matching tattoo so if you could write one with either of those that would be awesome <3
Inked Destinies | Steve Harrington

Hey! I went with the matching tattoo one, hope you like it! Also to note: an asterium is an observed pattern of grouped stars. It’s a little different than a constellation which is an official group of stars so…it’s relevant to the story I promise.

The last person in the world Y/n L/n expected to be friends with was Steve Harrington. But here she was meeting him for lunch.
With her headphones on, music blasting, she tried to think back to a time before they were friends - before he had decided to attach himself to her like a lost puppy. They had only really known each other for a few months but it felt like he had been there the whole time.
As she rounded a corner, almost at their meeting location, she spotted him. Well, not just him. Y/n straightened her back, her hands clenching as she watched Billy Hargrove and Tommy Hagan inching closer to her new friend.
She didn’t know much about their falling out but she knew it had to do with his ex-girlfriend and his sudden personality shift. King Steve was no more; the new kid Billy soon taking his place.
As she walked closer to them she could more clearly hear what they were saying.
“Come on, Harrington, don’t be a wimp,” Billy said, crossing his arms.
Tommy rested his forearm on Billy’s shoulder and said, “Yeah don’t be a pussy, Steve.”
She watched Steve scoffed, wanting to turn around and leave. As he went to do so, his back thudded against a row of lockers, leaving him trapped.
“Trying to run?”
“Come on, man,” Steve said, trying to push them away softly. “Just because I don’t run with you guys any more doesn’t mean you gotta be mean.”
Billy and Tommy burst out laughing, clutching their chests to steady themselves. “A wimp and emotional,” Billy teased. “Are you sure you’re not a girl? No wonder you haven’t found your soulmate.”
Y/n couldn’t take any more of their antics. With one deep breath, taking off her headset, she approached the group. Steve’s eyes softened when they saw her.
“Thought you were gonna ditch me Harrington,” she announced, holding out her hand. “You coming?”
He looked back and forth between her and the two bullies in front of him. A small grin forming on his face.
“Excuse me boys,” he said, taking her hand. “But the lady needs me.” With a wink, he let her pull him away from the huddle.
Both of them couldn’t stop laughing, hands still entwined and they walked through the halls to their usual lunch spot.
Once far enough of away she let go of his hand, missing the warmth it brought her. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” he replied quickly. “I’ve endured worse than Hargrove’s petty games.”
“Good, cause I didn’t know how I was gonna me you feel better.”
“Just being you is enough.”
Y/n paused in front of the door to the theater with an upturned face. She knew what he meant. Just being in each others presence, no judgment or effort to be presentable. It was a comfortable space where they good just be themselves.
Pushing the door open, they were quick to find their way to the same spot they always went to. Right in the center of the stage. It was empty, like it usually was during this time of day. In fact, it was probably the only time there weren’t theater kids running around.
It was the perfect spot. Plenty of sitting room, lights still on illuminating the stage. Nothing but silence.
She had discovered it one day after class. Walking randomly into different rooms in an effort to discover more of her high school before graduation. There was no one in sight but a small figure on the stage, their back facing her. They turned at the slam of the auditorium doors.
It was Steve Harrington. Eating his lunch alone.
She knew who he was of course. Spending four school years together and more recently, assigned partners on a project for their government class.
At first, it seemed odd that he was alone. He was usually being followed by girls or his douchebag best friend. Sauntering through the halls like he owned them.
But that was before his fall from grace. Before Nancy Wheeler walked into school after Thanksgiving break holding hands with her soulmate, Jonathan Byers. Now, it wasn’t unusual to see Steve alone. To no longer be considered a king by their classmates.
He froze when he saw her and for a moment they just stared at each other. It was clear he was nervous, not knowing how she would react as he played with the edge of his food wrapper. But without any judgment, she climbed up on the stage next to him and began to eat her lunch.
They became fast friends after that.
🎬🎬🎬
Setting her bag down Y/n fished in her backpack for her food. She used to go off campus a lot more for lunches but ever since she became actual friends with Steve, she found herself staying most days.
“What’s on the menu for you today?” she asked him, pulling a turkey sandwich out.
“Uh just left over pizza,” he replied softly, unraveling the tinfoil-covered food.
“Left overs? What no steak? No sushi from some expensive place across town?”
It was half a joke but half being serious. She had been to one or two parties that happened to be at the Harrington house. To say it was fancy was an understatement.
Steve chuckled before taking a bite. “No uh, I didn’t have time to go grocery shopping this week so…” he held up his slice of pizza. “leftovers.”
Tilting her head, Y/n asked, “Grocery shopping? Why are you the one grocery shopping?”
He took another bite, choosing to speak with his mouth full. “My parents are out of town this month so, grocery shopping is up to me.”
“Huh…” she didn’t know what to say. Sorry your parents are absent? Does the house feel empty? She knew he hadn’t thrown a party in some time.
Thankfully he seemed unbothered, moving the conversation along. “So… I have a kind of weird question? I don’t know if you could call it that…”
“What is it?”
Readjusting his position, he angled himself toward her more. “Why do you hang out with me? I mean, why are we friends?”
“What do you mean?” She asked confused.
“That project we did in gov. is over. You don’t have to hang out with me anymore.”
She took a moment to take in what he was saying. “Did you really think I only hung out with you cause we were working in a project?”
He shrugged. “Everyone seems to be bullshit nowadays I just figured you wanted the assignment done faster-“
“-Steve,” she interrupted, willing him to look at her. She continued when his eyes fell on hers. “You’re a nice guy. Why wouldn’t I want to hang out with you?”
“I was a douche bag.”
She couldn’t help but chuckle slightly. “That was then. I don’t know what happened but, I like the new you.”
Steve look down at the pizza in his lap, his eyes squinting with delight. “Th- uh, thanks I like the new me too.” Smiling Y/n returned to her food as he continued. “So since we’re friends and all and I have the house to myself, would you maybe wanna hang out sometime? Outside of school.”
She looked back up at him, her heart warm. He seemed so flustered, fidgeting with his fingers. So nervous to make a new friend. It was unlike how she had ever seen him act before. Slowly she nodded.
“Yeah, that sounds like fun.”
“Cool, yeah, uh, cool,” he stuttered out. Trying, but failing, to focus back on his pizza.
How could this man not have found his soulmate yet? Someone who shared the same mark as him? Y/n wondered what his could be, who out there could be linked to him. But it wasn’t something people just showed each other every day. You had to build up trust with them, form a relationship so in touch with one another you could be that vulnerable. It was like opening a part of yourself to them, regardless if you ended up being a match or not.
She hoped he would find his soulmate one day. The same way she hoped to find someone with a matching asterium to the one etched onto her hip.
He was too kind to be alone.

Summer was right upon them and it was already too hot. The humid air somehow seeped through the closed window as it shined light into the room. Steve’s sheets were warm underneath Y/n as she laid next to him.
She pried her eyes off her book for a moment turning to look at has face. It was upside down, both of them lying on opposite sides of the bed as their faces met in the middle. He absentmindedly stared at the ceiling as he tossed a ball toward it.
“How do people know what they want to do with their lives right out of high school?” He asked, continuing to throw the ball.
Y/n turned back to her book, realizing she had been staring. “I don’t know. Some people just do I guess.”
“What am I even gonna do? I didn’t get into college, my parents are gonna cut me off any day now…I’m just stuck in this town.”
“You’re smart, I’m sure you’ll be fine,” she responded, turning a page of her book. It wasn’t until the thumping of his ball stopped that she knew he was looking at her.
“Do you even remember that gov project?” He asked, making her giggle. “I don’t know where you were but if I remember correctly, it involved a lot of me writing stuff down and you correcting my work.”
“There are other ways to be smart beside academics.”
Flipping over to his stomach, he asked. “How?”
“Well,” she began. Setting down her book, she then flipped over to match his posture. “You’re street smart. Always know where we are and never need a map.”
“Okay,” he said drawn out. He shuffled on the bed closer to her. “But a lot of people can do that.”
“You know how to read people too. That’s really rare. Some people never know what others are thinking.” She watched as his eyes roamed her face, flickering down to her mouth for just a second. Her breath hitched. “You are really good a perceiving what people want.”
“I am?” He asked, he face inching toward her.
Y/n felt herself entranced by him, her body wanting to move toward him. “Yeah, you are.”
Up close, she never realized how beautiful he was. His long eye lashes, the freckles that were splashed across his face. The way he stared at her like there was no one else in the world. She wanted to lean forward and kiss him, but the sound of thumping pulled her away.
From across the room, the door bursted open to reveal a young boy. He was wearing a hat and a t-shirt with a science pun on it that she didn’t understand. It was clear Steve knew who it was, sighing the second he spotted the boy.
“You don’t answer your front door,” the boy said. Groaning, Steve let his head drop. “I didn’t know you were with your soulmate okay!”
“She’s not my-“ stopping himself from arguing, he stood up and ushered the boy into the hallway. “How did you get inside?”
The boy shrugged, “You gave me a key.”
“Dustin!”
“What? You gave me a key am I not supposed to use it?”
“You know it’s only for code reds,” Steve tried to mutter under his breath but failed miserably.
Code red? What was a code red?
“Just go okay? Walkie first next time, okay?”
“But, Steve, I got into Camp-“
“-Uh uh uh. Walkie first!”
“Yes, mom.”
Y/n watched as Dustin ran down the hallway, followed by the sound of shoes thumping against the stair case. “You know I don’t like it when you little shits call me that!”
There was no answer, the door slamming in place of a response. Sighing, Steve laid back down on the bed, grabbing the ball and throwing it up in the air.
Moment over, Y/n guessed.
Lying back down, she picked up her book. “You have walkie talkies with a little boy?”
“Yes… and he’s not little. He’s like gonna be a high schooler next year.”
“Sounds little to me.”
“…yeah, I know. Sorry for the interruption I think he’s just excited about getting into Camp…nothing. Something like that.”
“Camp Know Where?” she corrected.
“Yeah that’s it.”
“He’ll have fun. I had my first kiss at that camp,” she told him, nonchalantly flipping the page of her book.
Steve was more surprised, whipping his head toward her so fast he almost dropped the ball on his face. “You did?” he asked. Y/n nodded. “So… uh where’s your soulmate now?”
She closed her book. “My soulmate? He wasn’t my soulmate.”
“But you kissed him anyways.”
“And you dated Nancy anyways,” she retorted. He raised his eyebrows at the mention of his ex. “Unless you two are soulmates and you’ve been letting her prance around with Byers at school.”
Looking back at the ceiling, he resumed throwing his ball. “No, we’re not soulmates. Sorry for assuming.”
“It’s okay, Steve.”

It was officially summer and Y/n could not be any happier. She finally graduated high school and was already set up to go to the University of Chicago in the fall, though Steve didn’t need to know that last part.
What mattered is that he got the job he applied to in the new mall’s ice cream shop and was set to start in two weeks. To most, it was just another step of life but for him, it was everything.
The first taste of adulthood, of doing something for himself rather than to get his father’s approval. So that’s why they were on their way to Lover’s Lake. When Steve found out that Y/n had never gone swimming there before, he knew that’s where he wanted to celebrate his new job.
So on a hot Thursday afternoon, they packed up his car with swimming gear, turned on the radio, and were off.
“Are you sure we’re allowed to swim in the lake?” Y/n asked, watching trees through the passenger side window.
“Oh yeah, I’ve done it loads of times,” he responded. “Trust me you’ll have a blast.”
“I don’t know, Steve…”
“Come on, don’t chicken out on me now!” As they turned a corner, nearing their destination, a new song began to play on the radio. “Oh I love this song!”
Reaching forward, Steve bumped up the volume. It blasted through the car, making the speakers rattle. But Steve didn’t care, he began singing to his hearts content, using his one free hand to make waves out the window.
“Oh my god, you’re embarrassing!” Y/n shouted over the music.
“Live a little!” He formed a fist with his hand, holding it up to mimic a microphone as he sang louder.
She laughed as he did so, enjoying the scene he was making. Looking over at the sound of her giggles, he held out his microphone-like hand to her. With a raised eyebrow he encouraged her to sing as well.
There was a moment where they locked eyes before he pulled away to look back at the road. A split moment where she felt the happiest she felt in a long time.
With one big breath she began to sing.
It was like endorphins flooded her brain, every worry she had, telling Steve she would be moving to Chicago, the dread of finding her soulmate, it all left. And even when they came to a stop, the stereo turning off with the car, that worry was still left behind.
The two teens ran toward the dock, taking in the soft waves of the lake. The sun was out strong, birds chirping in the trees. It was the perfect day for a swim.
Steve dropped their prepared bag of the dock, wasting no time to pull his shirt over his head. Y/n followed quickly, taking off her shirt to reveal a one-piece she had bought the previous week.
She looked back up at Steve who was frozen, his hands still gripping his shedded shirt. She could tell he was trying not to eye her, to make her feel like an object as she undressed in front of him. If she was being honest with herself, she was trying not to do the same.
She always been curious what he was like under the ample amount of striped polos he owned. If not to see he was just as beautiful as his face, but to catch a glimpse of his soulmate mark. It took a lot of her to not be curious if the boy she had been spending more and more of her time with was her soulmate.
Every day it seemed that more and more people were finding theirs. Even last week, her friend Vickie found hers; some girl that was in the trumpet section of her high school band.
But as she finally let herself look down at his bare chest, there wasn’t a mark in site. She figured it was probably hidden, the same way hers was by her bathing suit.
With one final push, she shedded out of her shorts. Kicking them to the side, she instinctively wrapped her hands around her stomach. Steve was quick to comfort her.
He stepped toward her. “Hey don’t do that, okay? I like you just the way you are.”
She felt his hands on both of her shoulders grounded her. Slowly she let her hands go though he continued to look her in the eyes. Was he getting closer to her? It felt like he was inching toward her face.
But as soon as she felt the heat of his body spread through her chest, it was gone. He pushed on her shoulders, letting her fly back into the lake. With a splash, the cold water engulfed her, hair in a tangled crazy mess. She quickly swam back to the surface, gasping as air entered her lungs.
“Steve!” She shouted at him but it was no use. He was already in a fit of laughter readying himself to jump in after her.
“Cannon ball!” He shouted as he ran and jumped, clutching his knees to his chest. He splash next to her, a wave of water covered her again. She waited until he reached the surface before pushing water at him. “Hey!”
“You pushed me!”
“You were getting in anyways.”
“Oh that’s it!”
As quick as she could she swam over to him, pushing down on his head to send him back underwater. He was stronger that she thought, stopping her attack by grabbing her waist. She yelped as they throttled around in the water, laughter escaping from both of them.
It took a while but eventually they were able to calm down, floating on the surface as they basked in the summer sun. Y/n let her eyes close, focusing on the sound of the now tamed water, the trees brushing up one another.
“I hope this job works out,” Steve said, so quietly she almost missed it.
“It will. I believe in you,” she replied.
“Yeah but like, what am I gonna do afterwards? I’m not going to college and I certainly don’t wanna sling ice scream for the rest of my life.”
“Maybe you need to skip town, find something outside of this shit hole.”
He picked his head up to look at her, his body sinking slightly into the water more. “Leave Hawkins?”
“Why not?”
“I just- I don’t know… I don’t wanna leave my, I don’t know what to call them. My kids? I don’t want to leave you. A-and what if my soulmate is here? I’m just gonna skip town when the love of my life could be right here?”
“You’ll find each other eventually,” she said, letting the ambience of the lake take over.
If he was staying in Hawkins for her, she would regret it for the rest of her life. Here she was, moving away from her hometown where one of the friends was staying behind. Maybe she should tell him…
“I got into UChicago,” she blurted out. “I-I’m moving there in the fall so, if you’re staying here because of me, don’t.”
Steve picked himself up from his laying position, letting his lower body sink into the water and he treaded to stay floating. “You got in?”
She got up, matching his position. “Yeah, I did.”
“Y/n!”
“What?”
Rather than responding with an answer, he raced toward her, tackling her against the waves. Letting out a yelp her body collided with his. His arms wrapped around her waist, forcing hers to reach over his shoulders.
He held her tight and said, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want to put a timer on our summer,” she responded, feeling his grip on her loosen. They pulled away, leaving little room between them as her look darted back and forth between his eyes. “If I told you before it would be like this huge bummer ya know? It wouldn’t be a fun summer it. It would be our last summer.”
“Chicago is only like three hours away, it won’t be our last summer together,” he responded immediately. He was already making her feel better. “You can’t lose me that quickly, L/n.”
She watched as the gears in his head shifted to another idea. “We need to celebrate!”
Rolling her eyes, she said, “We’re already celebrating, hence the lake remember?”
“This calls for something bigger! Champagne! We need champagne!”
Before she could even answer, he began to swim back toward the dock. She watched him take long strides, his arms coming in and out of the water with perfect form. If she didn’t know he used to be on the swim team she would have been surprised.
Trying to follow quickly, she called out. “We’re 18, Steve, how are we gonna get champagne?”
He arms gripped the edge of the dock, ready to pull himself up. Before doing so, he turned back to her with a smirk. “I have my ways.”
It looked effortless, the way he pulled himself up just by the strength of his upper body. Y/n faltered for a moment, trying to stop herself from examining the muscles of his back. He was more toned that she remembered, each curve fitting perfectly into his skin.
Her eyes trailed further down to where his suit had fallen slightly. As she tried not to laugh at the side of his butt peaking through, something more interesting caught her eye.
There was a asterium marked on his right hip.
Y/n froze, almost forgetting to tread water to keep her afloat. One of her hands flew to her own hip where she knew her soulmate mark was. The marks were always in the same place. And where she knew an asterium of the Summer Triangle laid on her skin, she now knew it laid on Steve’s.
So many thoughts raced through her head. He was her soulmate? Deep down it made sense. She was only pining after him every day since they became friends.
They worked together like Vega and Altair, two of the stars in their shared asterium. The Lovers, coming from separate backgrounds only two fall in love once meeting after a change.
Reaching back down, Steve extended his hand to help her up. “You coming?”
Pulling herself away from her range of thoughts, she willed herself to take it. He helped her out like it was nothing, already moving to where there bags laid to grab the towels.
She was happy, elated that she had found her soulmate. But then there was the realization, the blunder that was Chicago. Was she really going to tell him they were soulmates only to move away for at least four years?
It was one thing to be long distance friends, another entirely to be lovers. She remembered what her parents had told her about the bond soulmates shared. The first few years are vitally important. Love doesn’t form quickly, despite the marks pulling people together. It took her parents three years before they even went on their first date.
Just because she liked him didn’t mean he returned her affections. And if they were to start dating, doing it over 100 miles away from another…
“Here,” Steve said, holding out a towel to her. She looked up him with what she could only guess was a startling expression. He touched his cheek. “What is there something on my face?”
This was the moment. Did she tell him? Ruin what could be the start of a beautiful romance? But then there was always later. When she was home from college, free from distractions. It could give their relationship the proper time to evolve.
Taking the towel, she wrapped it around herself. “Nope, no problem. Let’s go get that champagne.”
🎬🎬🎬
Out of all the ways she thought her summer was going to go, getting tortured by Russians was not one of them.
A lot had happened in the few weeks since Steve started his summer job. Y/n visited him almost every shift, even becoming friendly with his coworker, Robin, who turned out to be Vickie’s soulmate.
Dustin had comeback from his summer camp, elated that he had finally met his soulmate Suzie. She was a sweet girl from Utah who loved science just as much as him.
And while Y/n didn’t know the young boy very well, she found herself most days sitting in the back of Scoops Ahoy, trying to crack a Russian code he had found with Robin.
Codes turned into elevators which soon turned into a not so friendly interrogation.
They had punched her more times than she could count, every inch of her body writhing with pain. She knew Steve was worse from him whimpering as he tied behind her back.
The Russians had taken him away for a separate interrogation, bringing him back almost completely unconscious. She tried to wake him before screaming as they took Robin away to torture next.
“Steve? Can you here me?” she asked but there were only small whines.
They sounded almost involuntary. Pain scorching him even in his unconscious state. Sighing, she tilted her head back, letting it rest gently on her friend’s behind her.
“I really hope you wake up,” she mumbled to herself. “You’re like my only friend now. Besides Robin and Vickie I guess. But it’s different with them, you know? They don’t get me like you do…You’re so important to me, Steve…and it would be really shitty to lose my soulmate to a bunch of Russians.”
The confession was quiet as Steve stirred behind her. She tried to turn her head to look at him but it was no use. She was tightly tied the a chair.
A couple of minutes passed before the Russians came back in, this time carrying Robin who was barely awake.
“Robin? Holy shit, Robin can you hear me?” Y/n called out.
They tossed her on the floor, making her grunt on impact.
Y/n turned to look back up at the Russian commander. “You bastards!”
Slap!
She felt the cold sting of his hand across her face. The whip of pain in her neck. From behind her, she could hear Steve moan, his head lifting slightly as it banged against hers.
She wanted to call out to him, to check if he was okay. But the commander was lowering himself to meet her level. Her nose scrunched from his awful cologne.
“I’m going to ask you three one more time. Who do you work for?” the commander asked with a thick accent.
Steve tried to mutter a response but he was too out of it to say anything coherent. Y/n took over instead.
“They work for Scoops Ahoy!” she yelled. “It’s the ice scream shop in the mall. I-I just visit them on their breaks I work at a video store downtown! You have to believe us we’re fucking 18! You really think we’re spies?”
The commanders face remained still as she pleaded, not a hint of emotion behind his cold, callous face. “You really won’t break, will you.”
Y/n whined in frustration.
“Don’t worry,” he continued. “We have a way to fix that. сделай это”
“W-wait what does that mean?” No one answered her, instead she watched as another person walked over to Steve with a syringe in their hands. “Wait, hold on what are you doing?!”
She could hear Steve yell out in pain, a scream worse than anything she had heard before. As the Russian moved away, there was nothing. No hint of life coming from behind her.
“Steve? Steve!” she yelled, watching as the the man moved over to her with the syringe. “Stop, don’t you fucking touch me!”
It was too late, the tool being prodded into her neck. The pinch stung through her spine, making her yell out to control her pain. Before the pain even faded, she felt herself slip into the darkness…
🎬🎬🎬
The bathroom floors of the mall were utterly disgusting, but Y/n would sit on them all day if it meant she could finally throw up.
They had escaped the secret Russian bunker. Somehow, she couldn’t quiet remember. She saw Dustins face, a cart, some green goo in the elevator, and then Michael J. Fox on a movie screen. That was the last she could recall before her upset stomach willed her to find a bathroom.
Her, Steve, and Robin stumbled into the nearest one they could find. It was the mens room and she was thankful there was nobody else inside. And after minutes, of emptying her stomach, it felt like she could finally breath. Finally have a coherent thought.
She slumped against the red wall of the stall, needing a moment of rest after the very stressful 48 hours she had been through.
“Ugh, my mouth feels disgusting,” Robin called out. “I’m going to the water fountain.” She left the bathroom without saying anything else.
“Oh my god,” Y/n sighed. “After that laughing juice they gave us….I’m never smoking again.”
She tried to make a light hearted comment, to help Steve laugh and feel better. He was definitely beat the worst out of the three of them. But there was no response.
“Steve?”
Dread began to overtake her brain. Quickly, she crawled around the stall, pushing his unlocked door open to reveal him slumped against the wall. His gaze off into the distance.
Leaning forward, she sat on her feet and wrapped both her hands on either side of his face in an effort to get him responsive.
“Hey, are you with me? Does something hurt more?”
A beat passed before he responded, blinking slower than usual. “N-no just…trying to remember.”
Y/n sighed with relief, removing her hands as she went to sit opposite him. “Gotta respond to me okay? You have a concussion, you can’t fall asleep.”
“Sorry,” he replied softly, playing with his hands in his lap. He took in a deep breath before looking up at her. “Sorry for everything actually. I didn’t want you involved in all this.”
“It’s not your fault,” she told him. “I’m the one who wanted to help crack that code.”
“I know,” he said with a sigh, tilting his head to rest on one of his shoulders. “But I could have stopped you.”
She leaned forward, hoping that he would understand. “You couldn’t have, Steve. Wherever you go, I go, right?”
Lifting his head back up, he nodded, his mind drifting off somewhere Y/n couldn’t predict. “Did you talk to me? While I was passed out?”
Feeling her heart drop to her stomach she almost didn’t respond. “I-I was trying to wake you up if that’s what you’re asking.”
“No it’s just - I have a memory. You saying something to me. A-and if I’m wrong tell me and we can forget this whole thing but I gotta know…” He leaned forward, resting his arms on raised knees.
“Are you my soulmate?”
Y/n froze. Did she tell him the truth? That she confessed that they were soulmates and didn’t tell him before? It felt wrong to lie, especially when he flat out asked her.
“This…this wasn’t how I wanted you to find out,” she finally said.
She watching as Steve let out a breath, sinking back into the bathroom wall. “So I wasn’t crazy? You said- that we are- we’re soulmates?”
“No, you aren’t crazy.”
It was hard, trying to keep such a calm demeanor when internally she was freaking out. What would his reaction be? Did he like her? Was he mad she didn’t tell him? Did she just ruin her only chance at true love?
“Can I see it?” he asked.
She forced herself to meet his gaze. Softly, she replied, “sure.”
Gently, she pulled down the hem of her jean shorts, exposing her right hip where her soulmate mark lay. It felt vulnerable, showing her mark, and she guessed this was why people waiting so long before asking in the first place.
His eyes were stuck on the mark, like a deer caught in headlights. Slowly, he reached to his own shorts, pulling his down to show her his mark.
It was the same, of course. A perfectly matching asterium of the Summer Triangle.
They both let there shorts go, the fabric riding up to hide the mark.
“How did you know?” he asked.
“That day at the lake, your shorts came down a little bit and I saw it.”
“Trying to get a peak of me?” he said with a grin.
She laughed, grateful to see the playful side of him coming back. “You wish.”
He was still leaning forward on his knees but somehow he felt closer. Y/n wanted to badly to rush forward and kiss him. His eyes flickered down to her lips before back up at her. Without thinking, her head inched forward.
No, right now was not the time. Covered in blood on a bathroom floor, the taste of throw up in her mouth. This was not going to be her first soulmate kiss.
Beginning to lean back, they were interrupted by the swinging of the bathroom door. Looking over, they spotted a distressed Dustin and Erica along with a slightly dizzy Robin.
Dustin raised his hands in defeat. “Why the hell did you guys leave the theater?”
🎬🎬🎬
You would think that after Y/n and Steve figured out they were soulmates they would talk about it. But no. Neither of them had said a single word.
Weeks past, the fall semester nearing, and while Steve and Y/n hung out almost everyday, it was still as just friends. She wondered why he hadn’t brought it up.
She thought he was into her. So discovering they were matches would move there relationship along. Right?
But he hadn’t said a word. Instead, on a random day at the beginning of July, he banged on her door, the sound echoing through her empty house. Rushing quickly, she opened it, greeted by not only him, but Robin and Vickie as well.
“Hey guys,” she said warily, her body leaned against the frame. “What’s up?”
Steve went to speak but Robin beat him to it. “We got the job!”
Y/n’s eyes went wide, a smile forming on her lips. “Oh that’s awesome guys!”
A few days before hand, while Robin and Steve would searching the paper for job openings, she mentioned Family Video. It was where she had been working throughout high school but with her and Brad Davis leaving in the fall there would be two vacancies. They rushed to apply, Y/n trying to put in a good word with Keith.
Somehow it worked, the two starting their new job next Monday.
“You know what that means right?” Vickie asked her.
“Uh, that you’ll be making money?” she responded unsure.
“It means, another trip to the lake,” Steve corrected. “Get your bathing suit we’re leaving now.”
“Now? Like right now?”
“Yes!” Robin exclaimed, running inside with Vickie, trying to pull on Y/n’s hand.
The two rushed up the stairs to her room, ready to help her pick out the perfect suit but she stayed lingered in the doorway.
“I-I’ll just wait in the car,” Steve said, pointing back at his BMW parked in front of her house.
“Sure, we’ll just be a minute.”
And that’s how Y/n ended up back at Lover’s Lake. Steve’s car rolled to a stop and Vickie was quick to get out, sprinting toward the dock.
“This is going to be so much fun!” Robin exclaimed, opening her door. “It’s like a double date!”
Y/n’s eyebrows squinted at the accusation. But before she could ask her anything, Robin was running after her soulmate. Getting out of the car, she began to walk down to ask her why she would say those things. Her and Steve weren’t dating. Sure they were soulmates but not an ounce of romantic behavior had happened between then.
“Hey,” Steve called out leaning against the hood of his car. “You mind if we talk for a minute?”
Turning back to him, she said, “Sure.” Securing a place leaning next to him.
“I-I know we haven’t really talked about it yet- I mean that’s totally my fault I was trying to recover with this black eye and-“
“You don’t have to explain yourself, Steve,” she interrupted him. "You were recovering and you know, not every soulmate starts dating the moment they find out.”
He turned to face her fully. “No but, when you told me, I just…I can’t remember ever being that happy.”
“We were covered in blood and throwing up on a mall bathroom floor.”
“Than you can see how happy you’ve made me.”
Y/n tried not to let the warmness spreading through her chest affect her. But with a smile slowly forming, Steve could tell she was happy.
“I’ve been wanting to ask you out long before that day at the lake.”
Smile wide, she replied, “Yeah?”
He nodded. “Yeah. So Y/n, will you-“
She didn’t let him finish, rushing forward to plant her lips on his. He was surprised at first, his back hitting the hood of the car again. But quickly he melted into her touch, his arms wrapping around her waist in an attempt to pull her closer than she already way.
Her body was snuggled between his legs, her mouth slowly brushing against his. She tilted her head, getting a better angle that felt like fireworks were going off in her heart.
But slowly, she pulled away, seeing her lipstick stain his lips perfectly.
“-go out with me?” Steve finished and Y/n couldn’t help but laugh.
Her head fell, resting on his chest as they giggled. But slowly she looked back up at him, her body still entangled with his.
“Yes, I will go out with you.”
Leaning back in she grabbed one more kiss from him. It was short, sweet, and everything she ever wanted from her soulmate. She then begrudgingly separated herself from him, taking his hand as they walked toward the dock.
Robin and Vickie were already in the water, wrapped around each other as they floated in bliss. The sound of foot steps creaking against the platform got their attention. Looking over at the new couple, hand intertwined, they grinned widely.
“Whoo!” Robin exclaimed. “Double date!”
Steve looked over at his soulmate, happier than he had been in a long time. She smiled up at him in a way that made him never want to stop looking at her.
Repeating Robin’s words he said, “Yeah, double date.”

A legit way to fight the climate crisis from where you're sitting right now
As promised, in honor of Earth Day, I've written some suggestions for how you can write a letter to the editor for your local paper, and reach some people who otherwise might get a more...shall we say restricted view of climate news. Letters to the Editor remain a surprisingly important political vehicle. People see letters to the editor and they feel like they're hearing from their neighbors- real people with authentic, down-to-earth agendas. They're the second most read part of the paper, after the front page. Take that stage!
Step 1- Pick an article in your local paper to respond to. Today is Earth day, and lots of papers will have at least something about climate crisis or environmental protection on it's pages. Local papers are better, because, as you can imagine, papers like The New Yorker get a lot more submissions to compete against, and anyways they don't have the same sense of local opinion.
Don't fret if your local paper leans conservative! That means it has readers we REALLY need to reach! And they may be more open to reading about these issues in a paper than online, which particularly a lot of older, don't feel like "the real world".
Step 2- Figure out what you're going to say! Maybe there's a glaring error in the article you want to address. BUT, if you're not sure, you can look up your local organization that's fighting for these goals. For example, I could look up and find MN350, because I'm in Minnesota. Going to their social media and their webpage/newsletter archive gives me an inside look at what people who are really immersed in these subjects have to say about what's going on.
So, for example, I see that my local group applauds Minneapolis's efforts at going to all clean energy, and has a timeline, but that people on the inside are saying that without a dedicated funding stream, people implementing these changes will have to either hope federal funding stays stable or fight for funding in the city council every year. Ok, now when there's an article about Minneapolis's plans, I have something to say.
Step 3- Draft it up.
The goal here is to be short and to the point.
Opening line: Identify which article you're responding to, and maybe your feeling about it.
First paragraph: What is the specific issue? What is a relevant fact and why does it  warrant public concern?
Second paragraph: What would you say that we do in response, or what would you ask your neighbors to do?  Why?
Third paragraph: What is currently being done to address the issue and how could people who have been persuaded act?
This should be no more than 150 to 250 words TOTAL.
While you're wording it, some things to keep in mind- stats and facts are good, but don't use a lot of acronyms or jargon. Expect your readers to be coming at this with about an 8th grade education.
If you have a sense of what the people you're talking to find persuasive, lean into that. For example, for my letter to the editor, I emphasized that chaotic funding leads to lack of ability to plan ahead or bulk-buy. I know the people I'm talking to like things to be common-sense and detest governmental waste, so that's an easy one.
If you want extra help, I have a list of best practices for communicating about the climate crisis right here.
Step 4- Proofread, then submit it via whatever process your local paper has. The goal, if you can manage is, is to submit something within 48 hours of the original article's publication. That's the sweet spot for most papers.
BONUS ROUND!
You did that, and still have a little energy for the environment left? There's one more thing you can do to super-charge your effort!
Guess what, you can stack the deck in favor of your specific letter being published.
But it will involve using a phone.
That's right, if you REALLY wanna turbo boost this thing, you're gonna call the paper (or have your non-phone-adverse-friend or family member pretend to be you and call the paper).
Call as soon as possible after the editor would have received the material.
Use pleasant persistence to speak with the right person. Don’t stop at a receptionist or secretary. Create enough POLITE urgency about your letter that you get through to the specific reporter or editor who will decide whether or not to print your piece.
Provide the editor with specific local info and urgency. Focus your conversation on why this issue is relevant to their readers.
Get specific feedback and/or a specific commitment from the reporter. If they don’t want to print the letter, find out why and what adjustments you can make to get it printed.
If they agree to print it, find out when you can expect to see it in the paper. The you can tell other people. Even if memaw isn't a big climate activist, she might show your letter to everybody she knows if she knows you wrote it.
And that's the process! I know that's a lot of information to throw at you, but ultimately, it can be pretty quick to crank these things out. And, again, these have been proven to be powerful persuaders. We need as many people as we can to be in this fight, so go and get them!
And always remember, you're not just combating ignorance, you're combating hopelessness, helplessness, and burnout! You can inspire people to think about what's possible.
PS if any of you actually do this, please let me know. It'd make me so happy.

Drunkenness Scale
Tumblr media
Normally she doesn't drink. Her fridge doesn't have beer or other type of alcohol, neither the drinks cabinet that is on her livingroom, that is supposed to have alcohol on it but instead she has snacks and chocolates. When she eats a good piece of beef she prefers another thing instead of a red wine. And on special events she only takes a sip of champagne and then leaves the glass on the table.
But when party time comes she is the first one to go to the bar and order shots and drinks. She knows every components of the cocktails her friends like. And her friends know every stage of her drunkenness scale.
"Well, well, well" Max smirked walking inside the crowded club, heading directly to the VIP zone. "Today will be the day we meet a new stage?"
"Seriously? Are you really going to continue with that?" she frowned, rolling her eyes.
"You are our Amy Santiago" Lando laughed wrapping his arm around her shoulders. "And we were so close to meet the sixth stage last month"
She looked at them and groan, but she smirked after that. She knows she can trust them, they have been best friends since they were little and both boys would kill if something happened to her.
"Okay, okay" she laughed. "Let's get started!"
Stage 1: too normal yet
The first shots of tequila came to the table. Lando looked at her amd them at Max, moving his eyebrows up and down. The three of them drank the liquid all at once, groaning when the alcohol went down their throats.
"I hate tequila" she groaned, taking a bite of the lemon, eating it.
"Well, it doesn't seem like that" Lando teased her, leaning on the back of the seat, looking at her, waiting for a reaction.
"Come on, guys" she groaned looking at them. "I'm okay! That theory you two have is stupid!"
"The two of us? Oh no" Max laughed. "Pierre, Charles, Carlos and Alex are part of this study too"
"I can't believe it" she sighed.
She was feeling the effects of the alochol, but had enough strength to hide them. So she just talked with her friends, smiling, even making small jokes and enjoying when she heard her best friends laughs.
But then it was Max the one that ordered another round of shots. This one was vodka with mango and other things.
Stage 2: time to tell facts that came from nowhere
She drank the small glass slowly, humming at the sweet flavour of the shot.
"I like this one" she smiled looking at Max.
They were talking with some other people of the group that was on the boat Lando rented joined, while she just sat in silence, looking at them.
"Did you know..." she started, getting the attention of her best friends that had a smile on their lips. "... that The King of Hearts is the only king without a mustache?"
They looked at her and laugh, giggling. She smiled softly, innocent, and looked at them. She loves when she makes them laugh
"I didn't notice!" Max laughed grabbing his phone and searching it. "It's true!"
"This shot has mango?" she asked tasting the drink. "Oh! Did you know that they can get sunburned?" she said gasping.
"Really?" Lando frowned.
"Oh yeah" she chuckled. "And flamingos turn pink because they eat shrimp" she smiled proud.
"Sometime I think that George and her could make a competition about who tell more facts" Lando joked, making her smile wide.
"Oh, oh! And you know the the only thing you can lick on the mirror is your tongue?" she said laughing.
Stage 3: suddenly, she can speak other languages!
"Hola, puedes ponermos otra ronda de shots?" she asked on a perfect spanish, the only thing that betrays her is the English accent.
"Spanish? Really?" Max frowned.
"Yeah, why not" she shrugged her shoulders, looking at the waitress that came back with other type of shots. "Estamos en España! Hay que hablar en español"
"I don't understand a shit about what you said" Max frowned looking at Lando.
"Something about Spain and Spanish" he frowned too. "Last time it was Italian... Are you sure you don't search on Google basic things to say on every country?"
"No! Of course not!" She giggled already a little tipsy.
She does study a little of languages, but she listen to people talk, so her own brain works fast when she's drunk and remember things she heard hours before.
Alcohol can do magic.
Stage 4: dance. All she wants to do is dance and jump and scream. Like if she had too much sugar (in fact, she did)
"Let's go to the dance floor!" She exclaimed, leaving the shot glass on the table and jumping up, standing on her heels and holding her friends' hands.
Lando and Max looked at her, giggling. The three of them were already a little tipsy, but the two men were making sure they were not drunken enough to control their friend and take care of her.
"Oh god, I love this song" she exclaimed, jumping and singing the lyric of Despechá by Rosalía. "Come on guys!"
Lando chuckled and danced with her, small steps and making sure she wouldn't go too far from them. In this state she uses to be too much social and go dance with strangers.
"Oh! Guys I think I saw someone I know!" she exclaimed and started jumping trying to reach that person, that unfortunately she definitely doesn't know.
"No, no, no!" Max exclaimed holding her hips and stopping her, making her giggle and continue dancing, swinging her hips and looking at her friend with a big smile, giggling.
Stage 5: depressed. Not the depressed that thinks her life is shit but the depressed that is too much dramatic.
After she drank the shot glass that had again a fruity drink, she let a long sigh escape from her lips, making her friends look at her.
"You know... Sometimes when you go to races I cry" she sighed looking at Lando, making him frown.
"Why?" he frowned, biting his lip and trying to not laugh, knowing that this might be one of those moments of drama queen.
"Because your work is drive a car that goes 300 km/h! And there's a tiny chance of you dying!" she exclaimed, raising her arms and making dramatized mevements. "And I will never have the chance of saying goodbye to you because you are always away "
"Ah, come on" Lando chuckled softly, hugging her and rubbing her back. "In case something like that happens..."
"No! It can't happen!" she exclaimed holding him by the shoulders, shaking too much to make someone throw up. "It will never happen! You hear me? Because if you did I'll kill you!"
"Okay, okay" he laughed hugging her, looking how Max was trying to not laugh loud.
Stage 6: the new stage. Too soft to be her.
When she swallowed the last drop of alcohol she placed the glass back onto he table, taking a deep breath and smiled. She feels light, like if her body was a feather and she was floating around her friends.
"Well?" Max smirked.
"I'm feeling really good" she smiled softly, leaning on him.
"Oh?" he frowned confused.
She smiled looking at Lando. He's handsome. All her friends are handsome. How can she be so lucky to be surrounded by handsome guys? Some girls might say she's lucky, and in fact she feels lucky; other would ask how is not possible that she dates one of them.
"You are so handsome" she smiled cupping Lando's cheeks and squeezing them. "I'm so lucky to have such a handsome best friend!"
Lando and Max looked at each other, Max grabbing his phone and documenting how the new stage is.
"Since when do you have such a beautiful face?" she gasped turning around and looking at Max, rubbing his beard and smiling. "And so cute! Look at those curls! And that nose!" she exclaimed tooching the tip of his nose. "Boop!"
Lando and Max were shocked. She never showed so much affection or gave her friends compliments.
"I need to record this" Lando laughed, grabbing his phone and recording how she was hugging Max and pocking his cheek, while his friend was calling for help with his eyes.
"Yeah, definitely no more drinks for you" Max sighed hugging her back.
"Look at this curls! Oh god so cute!" she giggled playing with their hair.
