I caved, I finally watched Troll Movie 3

What a silly little boop <3

A headcannon that came to my mind was that VENEER can sing.

I FR see him as a choirboy. He could sing when confident, but I could see him struggling with stage fright and self-image issues. Veneer probably didn't like Grammy-level singing quality, but who cares if it's perfect pitch and has emotion and feeling behind it. The soul makes the music; you feel me.

Growing up, being a singer was his childhood dream, and people told him how good he sang. Velvet was jealous of the attention to his singing; maybe he was getting solos at school, and she never got the spotlight. He could have gotten more friends in the music community, so he was starting to outgrow or even outperform her. She wanted to be the best. Most definitely, he was the most likable of them, even in childhood.

My other headcannon to go with this one is that she psyched him out of his ability. Maybe petty comments of "Wow, they said that was Good?" Or "I could do better," "You definitely need me to tell you what's real, so flat," etc. Those were terrible examples, but the idea's premise is that she wanted fame and attention. She had no original talent, but she had her (younger? It's the vibe. But Velvet is giving spiteful, vindictive, less successful older sibling or bratty, jealous, and manipulative younger sibling energy through the whole movie, so neither here nor there) twin who looked up to her in some way seeing as in the film where he quotes all his inspiration to be based on his sister. I could see Velvet saying that quiche line, "You nothing without me," or some random melodrama-type gaslighting.

She didn't care for a life, and only for Fame. That's hella telling...

The semi-headcannon that singing, not even fame, was Veneer's dream fits with the "I want to be on top" attitude she gives off every time he tries to say that he is satisfied with where they are at. Like, 'Oh, that thing my brother enjoys and is better at, why don't I take it, and now he can't do it without thinking of me?'

A twin that is manipulating their sibling's dreams for their own gain could be considered a form of emotional manipulation or gaslighting. I could see a scene where he starts to sing well during a take, and she flips her lid about him trying to show off or being selfish.

Mais non ducon, y'avait une balançoire, et un tobbogan. En mauvais état. Je crois qu'elle avait installé ça pour ses enfants. … Y'avait un pommier aussi ou un poirier je sais plus. Nasuni Corp., announced its file services platform is available for purchase in the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, an online store providing applications and services for use on Azure.

Its customers can now take advantage of the productive Azure cloud platform, with streamlined deployment and management.

Nasuni file services allow customers to accelerate their migrations to Azure with a file services platform built for the cloud. Powered by a global file system, Nasuni modernizes primary and secondary file storage by consolidating NAS and file server silos to cloud storage, delivering infinite scale. It also provides built-in backup, global file sharing, disaster recovery and local file server performance. By combining all this functionality with the economics of the Azure cloud, the firm is able to provide file services at half the cost of traditional file infrastructures.

“Nasuni helped us transition to working remotely during COVID-19 because it provides easy access to data consolidated from all 22 of our offices and ultimately stored in Microsoft Azure,” said Charles Douglass, director of information technology, McKim & Creed, Inc. “We’re accessing our data through a variety of methods, including directly from workstations, remote-control tools and remote desktops, depending on the specific application. Our Comments

With this Nasuni announcement, it's the time to cover the holy grail of file storage i.e global file service that so many players have tried to solve for years.

For decades there was a lot of tentatives to address the need. Different evolution and contributions to reach the current market landscape are identified:

Geo distributed file services with Transarc, DCE DFS, Andrew File System or Coda to name a few, and even WebFS.

Network file management/network file virtualization with Avere, Acopia, Attune, Autovirt, Neopath, Rainfinity, Nuview. Many of them got acquired or disappeared.

CDN has also played a key role and some storage pioneers tried to leverage that model, it was the case of Storigen, Scale Eight or Acirro, all acquired.

Cloud gateway with some players from the previous category adding S3 back-end path with Panzura, Nasuni, CTera Networks and a few others.

WAFS, WAAS, WAN acceleration and optimization and now SD-WAN can offer some interesting models for some applications. You find here essentially network centric companies.

Global file service and established gateway players again with Nasuni, CTera Networks, Panzura, Morro Data and NetApp.

A major change transversal to these few technologies and solutions is the cloud that appeared and gained importance since AWS introduced S3 in 2006.

A lot of players are not developing successfully a file system on top of S3 or other object storage service. The reverse is true, adding a S3 layer on top of a NAS is super common, helped by open source product like MinIO for instance.

Main challenges are the data consistency, their integrity, their propagation with the changes, the automation of the file service itself, the file presentation and globally the mandatory to deliver a single file system image. It also requires that the service is able to scale i.e with large capacity, billions of files and hundreds of sites.

Nasuni represents one of the two leaders - the other one being CTera Networks - in the global file service category. Other players are more confidential such as Panzura, with lots of promises but mysteriously acquired by Profile Capital, Morro Data, NetApp via the recent Talon Storage acquisition for SMB (the protocol not the market segment) and FlexCache for NFS or even Peer Software. We can even list here SoftNAS now Buurst, even more hidden under its new name, JuiceFS, ObjectiveFS or LucidLink. Datomia seems to hit a wall and their website disappeared. BridgeSTOR, founded by John Matze, developed also a product named Coronado but the company seems to be inactive.

Nasuni was recently elected as a storage unicorn illustrating a growth being one of the few top file storage vendors with Qumulo and VAST Data. Pure Storage could be listed here as well.

Nasuni has made some interesting design choice. They adopted a star topology meaning that the master is the cloud, the central repository being always the reference. Immediately it means there is no data divergence created by any to any type of dialogue across remote sites. As soon as data reach the central place, it is propagated.

Second, the firm relies on a log structured file system, named UniFS, on top of object storage where various file versions are kept. This is by design. UniFS means Unified File System and it works in a append only mode and every change in a file is a version. Also the number of versions is infinite. Each file is immutable stored on a durable storage back-end. Object storage could be Azure, AWS, GCP or on-prem. And Nasuni service is listed on Azure and AWS marketplace.

Edge sites are views of the central site by caching data locally. It represents the other element of the puzzle talking to the central engine via a specific Nasuni protocol. This is an other value of the product. The architecture provides a global file locks at the file level, not sub-file.

The approach has the beauty to collapse primary and secondary storage into one entity exposing storage to applications and receiving data copied in this unique storage lake.

Such solutions are judged by the cache hit ratio as it translates immediately in QoS. So LRU algorithms and derivatives are paramount here. The product doesn't protect data by itself as it relies on object storage that offers high durability level but versioning provides a sort of time addressable storage model.

The solution is priced by capacity under a subscription model. As of today, we count more than 100PB under Nasuni control and it continues to grow at a rapid pace.

Such solution targets several use cases:

Consolidate NAS and file servers,

Multi site file sharing and collaboration,

Edge and ROBO,

Cloud NAS,

Data protection with integrated backup and DR.

Product is composed by UniFS, Edge Appliances, physical or virtual, a management console, the Orchestration Center, core element for data propagation and global file locking and the Analytics Connector.

Le scandale des cours d’eau fantômes

Depuis deux ans, en France, des dizaines de milliers de kilomètres de cours d’eau ont été gommés des cartes liées à la réglementation sur les pesticides. L’épandage d’engrais chimiques auprès de ces rivières n’a plus de limite ! En cause : l’inaction de nombreuses préfectures, mises sous pression par les agriculteurs, comme le révèle un rapport paru en juillet.

Alerte ! Près de la moitié (43 %) des cours d’eau d ’Indre-et-Loire ont disparu en deux ans ! Pas moins de 3 000 kilomètres de ruisseaux, et 13 000 des 14 000 mares et étangs du département, évaporés. Inutile d’accuser la sécheresse ou de soupçonner le dérèglement climatique. Ces disparitions, qui touchent tout le pays, sont cartographiques. Et néanmoins catastrophiques puisqu’elles élargissent le périmètre des permis de polluer aux pesticides. Sur les rives de ces cours d’eau gommés, il n’y a plus de limite à l’épandage. Nous nous sommes rendus sur place pour comprendre. Prenez ce modeste fossé, situé sur la commune de Crotelles. Jusque dans les années 1960, c’était une rivière entourée d’une zone humide à la biodiversité prospère, sur un plateau déjà très cultivé. On lui a ensuite donné un tracé rectiligne. Aujourd’hui, c’est donc un fossé, large de deux mètres environ. Sur sa rive gauche, un champ de maïs, avec des tiges encore sur pieds. Sur sa rive droite, des blés moissonnés. Le fossé est à sec, en cette mi-septembre après un été de sécheresse record, ici, comme partout en France. Mais dès qu’il pleut, l’eau remplit le lit, poursuit son voyage jusque dans un étang d’1,5 hectare, abrité par un bois qu’on aperçoit au loin. L’étang alimente un ruisseau qui rejoint la Brenne. Jusqu’à 2017, ce fossé de Crotelles était officiellement un point d’eau. Il ne l’est plus.

Au minimum 5 mètres

Flashback. Le 12 septembre 2006, pour protéger les cours d’eau, rivières, ruisseaux, étangs, fleuves, mares d’une pollution aux pesticides préoccupante, un arrêté interministériel instaure une zone d’au minimum cinq mètres autour de chacun d’eux, Zone de non-traitement (ZNT) sur laquelle les produits phytosanitaires sont interdits. Le texte précise que cela concerne les cours et point d’eau figurant sur les cartes de l’Institut national de l’information géographique et forestière (IGN). Définir ce qu’est un cours d’eau est alors assez simple. Il s’agit des taches ou traits bleus, continus ou en pointillé. Les pointillés indiquent que l’écoulement n’est pas permanent, comme pour le fossé de Crotelles. Mais voilà que dix ans plus tard, en 2016, avec la loi pour la reconquête de la biodiversité, une énième définition entre dans le code de l’environnement : “Constitue un cours d’eau un écoulement d’eaux courantes dans un lit naturel à l’origine, alimenté par une source et présentant un débit suffisant la majeure partie de l’année.” Le fossé de Crotelles, anciennement rivière, mais non alimenté par une source, n’est donc plus un cours d’eau selon le code et la police de l’environnement ! Enfin, en 2017, un nouvel arrêté ministériel stipule que c’est à chaque préfecture de faire le recensement des points d’eau protégés par une Zone de non-traitement. Les services de l’État doivent pour cela s’appuyer sur les références des cartes IGN, et les croiser avec les cartes de la police de l’environnement. Les préfectures ont-elles respecté cette consigne ? Eh bien non, pour un grand nombre d’entre elles. En Indre-et-Loire, par exemple, les traits en pointillé bleus figurant sur la carte IGN ont été exclus. Exit donc le fossé de Crotelles. Comment en est-on arrivé là ? Un rapport(1) commandé par les ministères de l’Écologie et de l’Agriculture, et publié en juillet 2019, constate que beaucoup de préfets ont cédé à la pression des agriculteurs. Les auteurs du rapport, Bruno Cinotti, ingénieur général des ponts, des eaux et des forêts, et Anne Dufour, inspecteur général de santé publique vétérinaire, évoquent “une consultation locale en général sous tension […] la FNSEA avait fait passer un mot d’ordre pour valoriser la cartographie “police de l’eau”, la plus restrictive.” Résultat ? Dans près de la moitié des départements, la protection des points d’eau est moindre qu’en 2006. Selon les départements, 14 à 50 %, d’entre eux ont “disparu”.

En Indre-et-Loire, c’est le botaniste Damien Avril, de l’association de protection de l’environnement Sepant(2), qui a fait le calcul, dès la publication de l’arrêté préfectoral, en juillet 2017. Accroupi près du fossé de Crotelles, il ramasse un amas de terre, dur et grisâtre, à l’endroit où sont cultivés les maïs. “Avec la sécheresse, ce sol limoneux forme une croûte à la surface”, dit-il. La pluie ne peut alors plus s’infiltrer. Elle ruisselle vers le fossé, emportant une partie du sol et des intrants chimiques. Conséquences : “On a mesuré des pics de pesticides dans la Brenne et ses affluents, juste après des grosses pluies”, précise Damien Avril. La solution pour éviter cette pollution indirecte des rivières et la dégradation des sols serait tout simplement de laisser pousser une bande d’herbes le long du fossé qui servirait de filtre naturel, retenant les pesticides. Bref, une Zone de non-traitement. À l’inverse, pour Henry Frémont, président de la chambre d’agriculture d’Indre-et-Loire, membre de la FNSEA (Fédération nationale des syndicats d’exploitants agricoles) et céréalier, il est nécessaire d’exclure les cours d’eau à sec, même si cette sécheresse n’est que temporaire. “Les associations s’accrochent à la carte IGN de façon bête et méchante, dit-il. Ils ne vont pas voir sur place si l’eau a coulé ou pas.” Les pics de pesticides après les pluies ? “Les agriculteurs ne traitent pas quand il pleut.” Circulez, y a rien à voir. Mais que dit-il des départements qui ont vu leurs cours d’eau protégés se maintenir, voire augmenter, comme en Bretagne ? “Ils ont surtout des prairies, affirme-t-il. Et on n’a pas besoin de traiter des prairies. On regarde l’impact économique que ça [une zone de non-traitement, donc non cultivée, ndlr] peut avoir. Sur des prairies, les ZNT n’en ont pas.” Elles en ont sur des cultures de blé, de maïs ou de colza, majoritaires en Indre-et-Loire.

Bruno Cinotti, coauteur du rapport, a une autre explication, pour la Bretagne : “Cette région a connu de très gros problèmes de pollution des eaux – liés aux nitrates – et pas encore résolus, dit-il. L’association de protection de l’environnement Eaux et Rivières de Bretagne y a une influence au moins équivalente aux professions agricoles. Les quatre préfets savaient que leurs arrêtés seraient contestés devant le tribunal administratif s’il y avait un recul de la protection.” Tout n’est donc question que de rapport de force. D’ailleurs, dans beaucoup de départements, on recense des dizaines de recours contentieux contre les arrêtés préfectoraux de la part des associations de protection de l’environnement fédérées France Nature Environnement, et des fédérations de pêche font de même. L’association de Damien Avril fait partie des requérants. “Ce qui est choquant, lance-t-il, c’est la régression.” La loi biodiversité d’août 2016 a introduit un principe de non-régression, en matière de protection de l’environnement. “On avait une loi qui imposait une protection, poursuit-il. Et on revient dessus. Or on a l’obligation de réduire la pollution de l’eau(3).” Rendez-vous au tribunal administratif. Fui à tribuna para lamentar que não tenha sido pautada para votação a Medida Provisória (MP) das carteirinhas estudantis. Caso aprovada, esta MP permitiria que estudantes seguissem solicitando o documento de forma digital, pela internet, o que deixará de ser uma possibilidade no domingo (16). Durante muitos anos, a confecção de carteiras estudantis ficou sob a responsabilidade de muitos delinquentes juvenis, que cobram preços altíssimos dos estudantes. Essa grana arrancada dos estudantes por muitos DCEs em grande parte acabam indo para o financiamento de partidos políticos e de outras atividades que nada têm a ver com o bem dos estudantes. É lamentável que não tivemos a oportunidade de votar a MP da carteirinha estudantil e que os delinquentes juvenis ligados a partidos políticos e à UNE voltem a ter a chance de achacar os estudantes para emitirem um documento que é direito de todos. Vamos trabalhar no Congresso para aprová-la, agora, de outra forma, para garantir que em breve a emissão da carteirinha seja novamente via internet e sem achaque ao estudante!.
