I found this image at http://www.alteredimagesbdc.org/#/rothstien/ The Associated Press released Rothstein’s famous image of a steer skull on cracked earth as a symbol of drought conditions. This photo was visually replicated nationally. Rothstein photographed the same steer skull at several locations. After multiple photos were released by the Associated Press, they were immediately labeled as government propaganda they were immediately labeled as government propaganda by various conservative newspapers. The posing of this photo was not meant to be noticed. The purpose of this photo is deceptive because this is the same skull just taken in a different location.

Descrption: In June of 1994, in the midst of OJ Simpson’s murder trial, both TIME magazine and Newsweek featured Simpson’s mugshot on their covers. This was a magazie cover for a trial but I misunderstood it because of the title. I thought it would have bee a story on something bad that had happened.
I think it was meant to be noticed of the photo-manipulation. To make people think the photo was for something else or just to make us think different things.I think the category that best fit this would be Creative because of how we can think its other hthings but it is really just one thing.

VALENCIA, VENEZUELA FEBRUARY 2014 PHOTOGRAPHER UNKNOWN
The photo was originally taken in Valencio, Venezuela in February of 2014, during a period of unrest. However, it was misrepresented as it was used out of context and decepted the viewers. In April 2015, the image was posted by FOX13 Memphis and captioned, “BALTIMORE IN FLAMES”. They claimed the photo was of a massive fire that had broken out in a Baltimore building under construction and that the mayor’s spokesman said it was related to the riots. Their mistake was then pointed out after 2 days.
As the incorrect photo description was not intentional, there was no original intent in place for it to be recognized as manipulated.
Nevertheless, in this way, the photo was still misrepresented as it was said to be displaying something that it was actually not. This falls under deceptive as it made the viewers believe something was true when it really wasn’t. The truth wasn’t played around with and misrepresented during the taking of the picture, but rather, later on, in the way it was presented to the public.
Example of: #3 - misrepresentation

its a photo that was taken during an attack in Iraq. The soldier was British and was telling the civilians of Iraq to come down and hide under cover as there will be more fire attack. The purpose of this photo is deceptive because it is making people think that Muslim peoples are illegally coming into a country. The reason why I think like that is because those who fled from their own country like Iraq, Syria or even Afghanistan don’t have enough money, are scared of the affects of the attacks that are happening and as they want a better future for their own family.  Another thing is that what you actually think of something is not true and has a different reason to the entire situation. This photo is an example is because you are thinking that those people are illegally coming into a country but in reality they are scared and worried as they don’t what well happen to them during and after the attack is over.

This is a picture of a crowded Bloor-Younge subway station taken in early January this year. One of my friends posted this picture on their instagram spams saying this was taken just two days ago, and that all these people were disobeying social distancing rules regarding Covid-19. This person was most definitely trying to deceive their followers, as they wanted them to believe that people were not following the rules for this quarantine. This deception was not meant to be noticed by their followers, clearly as someone even commented thinking this was happening currently. however, I am familiar with this picture and when it was taken so I instantly knew it was not taken in april. The person who posted this did not want their viewers to know this was taken in january, rather than now in april.

This photo was taken on May 2, 1945, and it shows red army soldiers raising the Soviet flag over the Reichstag as they defeat Hitler’s Army. This is one of the most popular photos not only taken at the time of WWII but still to this day. At the time Yevgeny Khaldei was the Soviet photographer in Moscow and he wanted to recreate the photo so he flew to berlin with some soldiers and took the photo and quickly flew back so he could print his film. Before the photo’s first publication in Ogoniok, a Russian magazine, Khaldei scratched from the film negative multiple wristwatches worn by the Russian soldiers, concealing Soviet Army looting. They also added dark clouds of smoke at a later version of it. The categories these pictures fall into is Aesthetic because they tried to hide the fact that the soldiers did loot by taking the watches of their hands.

http://www.alteredimagesbdc.org/#/walski/ This is a photo of a British soldier warning Iraqi civilians to take cover. However it was shown in the papers captioned “Warning: A British soldier manning the Azubayr Bridge orders fleeing Basra residents to hit the dirt as Iraqi forces open fire.” This manipulated the meaning of the photo. I would say the original photo was not meant to be noticed but the published one was. This was for deceptive purposes because it altered the meaning.

This photo can be misinterperated as representing something else. The photo is about a doctor, working with African labourers in Gabon. However, at first glance, I thought of something completely different. To say it in a vague way, the doctor looks like a slave owner. Maybe, the manipulaion was meant to be seen, because it is easily noticed at first glance. The purpose of this photo may be creative. This is because it allows the viewer to conciously think of a whole new topic, when the photo is about something else. The photos also deceptive as well.

These photographs show a comparison of covers of the same man and they were both placed on a news stand but the TIME one caught the audience attention with hate. The editor had dark toned Simpsons face on the right one and clammed it was to give it a dramatic look. The edit had caused an large agurment or people saying he was being rascit because he made him darker than what he was. The new photos edit was suppose to be noticed because the editor specifically said he wanted to give a dark dramatic effect. You can definitely see the difference of how he originally looks and the design of the magazines in general. One word to describe this photo is Aesthetic because as the editor said he wanted to show a difference of both covers in a different way so they don’t look the same. I would’ve or recommended for it to be a different edit isntead of darkening up the photo or him himself. He claims there wasn’t any racial implications but black people already have a alot of hate during those times and now so it wasn’t smart to edit it in that way. Overall this picture was to show a better look than it already was.

This photo was posted on April 27th, 2015 with the caption “Baltimore in Flames”. A building caught on fire in Baltimore and the mayor’s spokesman stated that it was in relation to the riots.
The photo-manipulation in this picture was not meant to be noticed. In my opinion the purpose of the photo is deceptive as they mayor wanted people to believe that the image is related to the Baltimore riots but in reality this picture is of a fire that occurred in Venezuela in February of 2014.

This photo was posted with a caption saying that this was sleeping next to his dead parent in Syria. When in actuality, the child knew the photographer and was posing next to graves that were not his parents. Despite the fact that this is still very sad, it’s context is completely fake. This photo was not electronically edited, however the child was posed in this position. I don’t think people were supposed to found out the truth behind the photo, as the story created by the photographer is more moving than the actuality of the events.
The purpose of this photo is to deceptive the viewers and draw attention to the conditions in Syria. Although fabricated, it still made for a compelling, emotional story which seems cruel once viewers found out this was fake.

This is a screenshot of a BBC News article, documenting the Syrian civil war. The image shows bodies in lines, and the caption says “This image - which cannot be independently verified - is believed to show the bodies of children in Houla awaiting burial.” BBC News claimed an activist took the picture, however, the picture was taken by a Getty Images photographer. The picture was taken Israel, years back during the Saddam Hussein regime. The photo was initially meant to show the mass amount of death during Saddam’s reign. BBC News tried to show the Syrian war worse than it was. BBC News took down the article and apologized. I believe the manipulation of the photo was meant to be noticed, as BBC tried to pass it off as pictures of the Syrian civil war. I believe the purpose of this manipulation was deceptive, as the BBC tried to portray the Syrian war worse than it was.

So this is a pretty funny meme made in 2017 (here’s the link I found: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/hurricane-now-contains-sharks/ ) when Hurricane Irma- one of the strongest storms in human records so far- passed through the Caribbeans. Someone took this photo and used a website called breakyournews.com (as seen in the top right corner) and posting it to the internet as a prank.
I believe this was meant to fool people as a real news broadcast despite the previously mentioned watermark and I’m just guessing that the creator couldn’t get rid of it and hoped that nobody noticed  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
With that, this was meant to be a deceptive video, to trick people into thinking that there were sharks in a hurricane. Fun fact though: this actually isn’t a total lie. The storm caused water animals to be lifted and later dropped by the power of  n a t u r e  but it’s not strong enough to carry and shower land with fish

The Kiss by the Hôtel de Ville, Robert Doisneau, 1950, Paris
https://www.oddee.com/item_99568.aspx
This photo shows a couple kissing, with people walking past them and Paris City Hall in the background. It captures Paris as a city of romance.
Later, in 1988 when the photo was put on the cover of Telerama, a French magazine, two women claimed it was them in the photo and sued. Doisneau has to reveal who it was and that, in turn, that the photo was staged.
This photo was misinterpreted as being a spontaneous kiss that just happened to be captured. However, in reality Doisneau saw them kissing beforehand and then asked if he could take their picture and instructed them where to stand and to kiss.
When it was found out that the shot was staged, Doisneau said “I don't photograph life as it is, but life as I would like it to be.” This makes me think that the purpose of this photograph was creative. He wanted to capture the idea of Paris being “the city of love” and to present a powerful image of a couple passionately swept up in the moment, unconcerned with their surroundings.
