Guiding Ariadne ———————————————— Apply these effects. ● You do not pay LP to activate Counter Trap Cards. ● You do not discard to activate Counter Trap Cards. ———————————————— If this card is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can reveal 3 Counter Trap Cards from your Deck, your opponent chooses 1 for you to add to your hand, and you shuffle the rest back into your Deck. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Breakers of Shadow (BOSH-EN036)
The ability of Pendulum Monsters to turn into either Spells or Monsters makes them flexible cards to work arround. As monsters they can take advantage of Pendulum Summons to be constantly brought to the field for all sorts of purposes and mechanics, going from a powerful aggro mechanic to recycable materials. In the Pendulum Zone they mainly provide their Scales to summon monsters with, but also effects to support our build with. Don't be fooled by Scales no working well together, as Pendulum Monsters can remain effective with their two separate effects.
"Guiding Ariadne" brings back the forgotten Counter Fairy series with a pair of powerful effects arround some of the strongest kind of Trap Cards. In the Pendulum Zone, "Ariadne" pretty much makes the activation of some Counter Traps free as allow us to skip Life Point and discard costs to activate them, overall making some of the strongest Trap cards easily available under any circumstances. As a monster "Ariadne" becomes a powerful searcher, as each time is destroyed in return we can show three Counter Traps from our Deck so the opponent chooses which will b added to our hand. Both abilities are undoubtly powerful on their respective fields, as either "Ariadne" makes the strongest Counter Traps ignore their riskful drawbacks or takes advantage of being a Pendulum Monster to constantly add Traps to our hand.
Compared to other Pendulum Monsters, "Ariadne" has scarce staple options to be added in our hand as soon as possible. On the bright side, "Ariadne" obtaines many methods to abuse its searching effect almost each turn. By just being a Pendulum Monster, we can be a bit reckless as we declare suicidal attacks and/or activate mass removal effects like "Dark Hole"  to obtain a Counter Trap in the process. Performapal in particular can exploit the ability of "Ariadne" with the effect of "Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer", destroying the Fairy to obtain a new Performapal along a Counter Trap from our Deck. "Ariadne" might not be the strongest monster out there but can become a threat by working along "Dinomist Stegosaur", letting us destroy "Ariadne" along any monster declaring an attack on. Keep on mind that "Ariadne" searching effect also triggers if is destroyed in the Pendulum Zone, giving us a Counter Trap no matter if is destroyed by an opponent's effect or working along an ability such as "Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer".
While its role as a searcher is more than covered, the ability to make Counter Traps costless is far from being underrated. Popular Counter Traps like "Solemn Strike" and "Solemn Warning" becomes easier to play with as they wont become dangerous to activate if our Life Points are too low to survive the next turns. On the other hand, Traps which require to discard cards such as "Magic Jammer" or "Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell" allow us to keep our hand intact or even use them while handless. With "Ariadne" making some of the most powerful Counter Traps totally free along its searching effect is clear that the rest of Counter Fairies will take full control of the Duel with ease, with "Bountiful Artemis" constantly giving us cards to draw or summoning "Voltanis the Adjudicator" and "Van'Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord" to further punish the opponent.
If our Deck is loaded with Counter Traps, "Guiding Ariadne" is undoubtly a must to work with. Its effect in the Pendulum Zone is undoubtly useful to freely use some of the strongest Counter Traps in the game, specially when working along the rest of Counter Fairies. However, "Ariadne" shines the most with its searching effect, as takes advantage of its role as Pendulum Monster and the many methods to end destroyed to constantly fuel our hand with Counter Traps. This might make its position in the Pendulum Zone rarely useful if we manage the Traps' costs wisely, but even so its Scale can assist us to keep summoning other copies of "Ariadne". The true problem is that "Ariadne" lacks in support of its own to become available as soon as possible besides of "Rescue Hamster" and a very few scarce options, but as soon is in our hand will either abuse its role as a searcher or make Counter Traps free to use.
Personal Rating: A
+ Ignores Life Point and discard costs of Counter Traps + Searches Counter Traps when destroyed + Various methods to abuse its searching effect
- Scarce options to become available as soon as possible - Pendulum effect might not have much uses compared to its searching effect - The opponent chooses which Trap we add to our hand

Dinomist Stegosaur
“Pendulum Effect: If another ‘Dinomist’ card(s) you control would be destroyed by battle or an opponent’s card effect, you can destroy this card instead.
Monster Effect: If another Pendulum Monster your control battles an opponent’s monster, after damage calculation: You can destroy those monsters.”
