Some recentish shows of note, or lack thereof:

COUNT ABDULLA: Charming comedy about a Pakistani doctor who gets turned into a vampire by a white vamp with a fetish for brown men, and the many complications that ensue. Not so much a horror story as a witty parable about the travails of being a person of color in Tory Britain today. (So, a horror story after all, then.) Jaime Winstone needs to dial it back, but the rest of the cast delights.

DEADLOCH: Snarky comedy-mystery by a well-known Australian comedy team, about mismatched cops investigating a gruesome murder in a small town. The mystery is clever; the payoff is blah; and despite the predominantly female, mostly LGBT cast, the humor is awfully reliant on misogynistic and homophobic cracks that frequently cross a line from "laughing with" to "laughing at."

HIJACK: Tense but very contrived seven-part thriller about the hijacking of a British airliner on a seven-hour-flight from Dubai to London, with passenger Idris Elba the wildcard. Gripping, but not terribly plausible, and the many false climaxes become exhausting, especially if you watch the episodes back to back.

THE LAZARUS PROJECT: Convoluted, intermittently fascinating, unpleasantly mean Sky sci-fi thriller about an app developer named George Addo (Paapa Essiedu), who's drawn into a secret organization that can undo world-ending disasters (natural or manmade) by resetting time to a predetermined save point, like a video game, although this has harrowing consequences for the handful of people capable of remembering the repeated resets. At first, this is basically just window dressing for grim espionage procedural nonsense, with some extremely questionable character motivations, but after a relentlessly bleak midsection, the first season finds its dramatic footing in the unexpectedly interesting final episodes, in which the premise is pushed to its breaking point and the grimness gives way to black comedy. This is the note on which the considerably more complicated second season begins, but it again grows uglier and bleaker as it goes on, and any sympathy for George, positioned at the start of the show as a relatable everyman, has long since evaporated. There are some provocative ideas and a number of surprisingly funny moments, but the whole story is predicated on pushing the characters into morally compromised positions (one assumes creator Joe Barton always has a browser tab open to the TV Tropes "Moral Event Horizon" page), and the fact that some of the (many) atrocities the characters perpetrate in hopes of fixing the existential catastrophes they've set in motion are subsequently undone doesn't make them any easier to stomach. Anjli Mohindra (who plays Archie, the veteran agent who initially recruits George into the project) remains frustratingly under-utilized in both seasons.

THE MORNING SHOW: Big-budget, all-star TV news drama is all dressed up with nothing to say, undone at every turn by truly spineless whataboutism and a centrist world view so gormless it makes Aaron Sorkin seem like Alexander Berkman. Reese Witherspoon is pretty good as closeted bisexual cohost Bradley Jackson, but costar Jennifer Anniston's limited range becomes a problem, particularly as the quality of the scripts declines noticeably in later seasons. You could always just watch BROADCAST NEWS.

THE OTHER BLACK GIRL: Disjointed adaptation of the 2021 Zakiya Dalila Harris novel scores when it focus on the workplace drama of a young Black woman in a painfully white publishing company, but trips over its own feet in its attempts to also be a paranoid thriller, with plenty of bad vibes that never add up to a coherent sense of threat and a conspiracy plot that doesn't really make any sense.

THE PERIPHERAL: Misfired adaptation of the 2014 William Gibson novel is executive-produced by the same people as the recent WESTWORLD series and has the same problems: big ideas that don't translate into action and an infuriating tendency to consign characters of color to marginal or villainous roles. Worse, it eventually becomes clear that several more compelling characters have been sidelined in favor of the poor white trash leads (Chloë Grace Moretz and Jack Reynor), who are neither very interesting nor especially sympathetic.

WHO IS ERIN CARTER?: Kinetic but preposterous seven-part action thriller with Evin Ahmad as a suburban mom in Barcelona who is secretly an incredible badass with a shady past. Basically a violent Walter Mitty fantasy for soccer moms who love the JOHN WICK movies, with a showy supporting role for Denise Gough from ANDOR.

I wanted to go to Dubai back in 2020 for the World Expo. Unfortunately, the pandemic happened… that’s why I visited the Expo City during my recent UAE trip. Yes it would have been better if I was able to visit this during the Expo proper in 2021 and 2022, but seeing the the “city” they built for this event is still mind-blowing. Dubai Metro Map 2023

The Dubai Metro's green line debuted on September 9, 2011, following the red line's launch on September 9, 2009. Some of the stations took a while to open. On the other hand, as of March 1, 2014, every station on the green and red lines was fully operational, and as of 2021, the Expo 2020 extension was likewise fully operational.

In order to expand on the 18 green line stations and the 35 red line stations that are currently in operation, both the green and red lines will probably be extended further in the future. All these details are included in Dubai Metro Map 2023 that we will share here. Other lines might open in the future as well.

There are presently 4 zones that make up the Dubai Metro, as you can see from the zone map. Other public transportation options, such as buses and trams, are covered in a total of seven zones. Dubai Metro Red Line

The Dubai Metro Red Line travels up to UAE Exchange from Rashidiya. This route is approximately 52.1 kilometers long overall, of which 5 kilometers are subterranean. Beginning in 2005, the Red Line's construction was finished by the end of 2009.

This project featured 29 stations and cost about 7.6 billion US dollars (including Green Line). This indicates that the line will cost roughly 102.2 million US dollars per kilometer on average. This line has an average speed of roughly 47 km/h, and the entire trip should take about 70 minutes.

Dubai Metro Green Line

With a total of twenty operational stations, the Dubai Metro Green Line links Etisalat and Creek. This line is measured to be 22.5 kilometers long overall, 8 kilometers of which are subterranean. APLF just announced MOYA London's founder, Moyang Yang, the global winner of its renowned DESIGN-A-BAG AWARD 2023. APLF is the world's leading trade fairs for leather goods supplies, and hosts the design award annually since 2007.

It took one GO Transit scheduling change to turn Siddhartha Batra from a regular commuter to a full-time remote worker. A direct bus operated by the regional transit provider provides an easy way for the 31-year-old civil engineer to travel from home in downtown Toronto to his job roughly 35 kilometres away in Mississauga, Ont.

But some changes GO operator Metrolinx recently implemented on some of its most popular train and bus routes effectively doubled Batra's travel time, based on GO Transit's trip tracker. The prospect of the longer commute prompted him to obtain permission to abandon the journey altogether and work from home permanently.

"There is no way on Earth I'm travelling two hours on public transit, one-way," Batra said in an interview. "I won't be using it all because it just doesn't work anymore."

Batra is not alone in his frustration with the scheduling changes, which Metrolinx announced late last month and implemented as of Saturday.

The agency bolstered service levels on the busy routes connecting Toronto and Kitchener, Ont., but also scrapped some train services and replaced them with bus routes. Some bus schedules were also adjusted to eliminate a key connection point at Toronto's Union Station, a transit hub linking the regional and local public transit systems.

Batra's old Route 21 bus fell victim to the change. Rather than catching a direct ride from Union, travellers are now being asked to take a GO train to one of three stations on the Lakeshore West line before reconnecting with the bus to continue the trip.

"We now have to go from Union to Port Credit and then take a bus across. So it's just made a lot worse, the transit time," Batra said, noting the new schedule adds nearly an hour to the commute.

The routes in question run through some of the fastest-growing regions in the province. Statistics Canada's latest census data shows the population of Milton, Ont., the final destination for Route 21 buses, soared 20 percent between 2016 and 2021. The denizens of Milton's home region of Halton jumped nearly nine percent during that time, while neighbouring Peel Region saw its population climb roughly five percent to about 1.45 million residents.

A statement from Metrolinx said long-anticipated efforts to refurbish Toronto's Gardiner Expressway prompted the changes on Route 21, arguing the new schedule will make travel times more "consistent and reliable" amid the expected construction.

A message on the GO Transit website announcing the service adjustments said they result in "faster trips for those heading further west to Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton and beyond."

Batra, for his part, isn't buying the effort to position the changes as improvements. "That's just false advertising, so that's my first frustration," he said. "My second frustration is the amount of notice we were given was communicated with no notice at all for people to adjustments to their jobs."

Batra believes Metrolinx should have given commuters at least four months to adapt their travel plans or work schedules, noting transit systems in other places he's lived in, like Singapore and Dubai, don't generally overhaul routes on such tight timelines.

He's not the only one unhappy with the latest changes. Mississauga resident Quratulain Syeda, 34, anticipates the alterations will turn her commute into "a whole mess."

"This was basically my main way of getting into the city because I only use public transport to get around," she said of the old Route 21 bus. "I do not have a car, so I rely on it heavily."

Syeda, who frequently travels to Toronto to visit friends and attend events, said she used to be able to get from her front door to Union Station "in 45 to 50 minutes at any time." The new configuration has added about an hour to that trip.

"I will probably look at [taxi] options or maybe not try and go to as many events or things in the city," she said.
