Chandelurian Ghost-People HCs

This is an expanded on and much more... lucid and clear post about the Chandelure people I was talking about yesterday at 3 AM. I just needed to write something about them so I’d remember them

content warnings: they eat people; they’re like vampires but cooler. Death and descriptions of burning, and some possessive behavior.

▶ Like Chandelure, they burn souls and spirits for “fuel”. Instead of a heart, they have a fire (called a heart-fire) encased in something that looks like a lamp. It’s not visible from the outside, unless they’re actively consuming fuel, or experiencing strong emotions; and even then, it’s difficult to see unless it’s dark. Their eyes also tend to have what looks like “fire” burning in them, and it makes them look like their eyes glow in the dark.

▷ They can burn anything that contains “life energy” for fuel, but things with souls or spirits- that is, humans or pokemon, work best. Human souls are best for them. They can eat food, as meat and vegetables contain life energy, but it’s more like junk food to them; tasty, but doesn’t provide any energy.

▶ They get very sickly looking if they don’t have stuff to burn, and become lethargic, and will even turn transparent. If they get too desperate, they may end up committing arson or accidentally burning fields or large amounts of plant matter to try and consume anything.

▷ Like Chandelure, they have weird tendril arms they can manipulate. These can be attached to them somewhere on their body, or hidden until needed/summoned. They’d be black, and feel cold and hard- like wrought iron. However, they’re flexible (like a Chandelure’s arm things) and pointy. For murdering purposes as well as binding things.

▶ They can make spirit lights/fire lights that are very bewitching to people and pokemon who approach them; they are usually purple in color, but can be orange (like a shiny). If you touch them, they won’t feel hot at first- they’re burning your soul, not your flesh after all. Chandelurians can also control whether their fires burn physical matter or spiritual ether.

▷ Depending on where they live and how they live they may also carry out body disposal, burning away any corpses and any of their possessions; or they may target ill or weak people whose deaths can be explained as a simple heart attacks or just old age. They may also dwell around graveyards or places like Celestial Tower where they can find wandering souls and spirits.

▶ They can make sounds similar to what a Chandelure sounds like in game; haunting, ringing, chiming noises that sound like glass or windchimes. The noise would have some kind of supernatural property to it. Their cries can sound like a maddening cacophony of screeching noise or they can be soothing and lull one to sleep or peace. It’s up to them to decide.

▷ Being ghosts, they can also make themselves semi-solid and travel through objects or float through the air, though this consumes a lot of their heart-fire’s fuel; they only do it to run away or capture their prey, if they know it’s hiding behind a wall.

▶ Chandelures, Lampents, and Litwicks are all naturally attracted to Chandelurians, and can talk to them as well. Chandelurians consider them to be like family, and often raise Litwicks themselves.

Romantic HCs:

▶ Off the bit of their heart-fires glowing brightly when experiencing strong emotions, if they find someone they love- especially a human (read: beings that don’t need to consume souls for life energy; human souls make energy!), they can live off of that human’s life energy instead of needing to eat people’s souls. As a result, they are very interested in finding someone they love; it could be a soul-mate situation, in which they just need to find someone who’s soul’s energy they mesh with, or it could be a case of just finding the person who makes their heart (figuratively) thump.

▷ If they do fall in love with a human, the human can expect to get many gifts of beautiful, ethereal lamps with little fires that don’t ever seem to go out. So long as the Chandelurian lives, the fires won’t go out- and staring at them makes the human love their sweetheart even more for some reason, which is probably that they’re being bewitched by the lamps.

▶ The human will be given a Litwick. And they will be expected to raise said Litwick, and lovingly. Chandelurians adore their pokemon counterparts incredibly and tend to experience “candle fever”. Rejecting the opportunity to raise a Litwick from a Chandelurian will probably break their heart, but agreeing to raise the pokemon and then mistreating it would be far worse for the human.

▷ They will absolutely hypnotize and hold their sweethearts down with their iron-tendrils, though gently. Lulling their partner to sleep is one of their happiest delights and getting to hold their sleeping partner makes their heart-fires burn bright enough to illuminate their bedroom. Hence why they probably had to hypnotize their sweetheart as well, to sleep through the bright light. They will also sing with their glass voices to comfort their beloveds!

▶ Once a Chandelurian finds a human they like, they are almost always unwilling to let them go. If they can’t get their beloved to love them back normally, they will resort to brainwashing by fire-lights and hypnosis- In a haze of fire and glittering sparks, their sweetheart won’t know how to run away, if they even remember.
