MY FRIENDS. I HAVE WATCHED "THE TIMES". I WILL NOW PROCEED TO SCREAM.
I stimmed like never I have stimmed before. Seriously. Forget frantic handflapping, every time I so much as think about it, I start jumping up and down.
JIGLUP IS CANON.
JIGLUP.
IS.
FUCKING.
CANON.
I do not give a shit from now on about what TMS tries to tell us about how to interpret this. These fifty years of franchise are packed with the most obvious subtext I have ever seen, and at this point you can't call it subtext anymore. If Lupin and Fujiko are in love, then Lupin and Jigen are in love too. I personally never needed canon to explicitly state it in order to interpret them that way, but now I have canon to back it up. IT'S CANON. Y'ALL. IT'S FUCKING CANON

It's not the first time Jigen's relationship to Lupin is compared to Fujiko's, and it certainly won't be the last. But this reaches entirely new heights of Absolutely Fucking Explicit. They didn't say "why he cares about you" or "what he sees in you" or "why he puts up with you". It's "WHAT MAKES HIM SO CRAZY ABOUT YOU."
LUPIN IS CRAZY ABOUT JIGEN. THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE SAYING HERE.
ALSO
LUPIN'S WHOLE SPEECH TO GOEMON ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH JIGEN
AND WHAT JIGEN MEANS TO HIM
I WILL CRY

For a solid five minutes after Jigen reunited with Lupin and the Gang, I thought it wasn't him and someone else had replaced him - at this point I didn't believe anymore in the possibility of TMS pulling a Green VS Red on Jigen, but it could be Zenigata disguised as Jigen, that wouldn't be far fetched.
I needed Goemon to spell out that it was Jigen's way of saying goodbye to his friends, a last supper of sorts before he disappeared from their lives.
I mean, of course, that didn't happen, and we all knew it wouldn't, it's been proven time and time again that Jigen will always come back to Lupin, no matter how many times he tries to quit. The doylist reason is continuity, of course, but this episode's goal is to give a watsonian answer, that we all already knew about, of course, but goddamn is it good to hear them actually say it.
To hear Lupin say how much Jigen means to him.
I was worried this episode was going to HURT, that the whole point of the episode was to drive home the fact that Kobayashi is leaving, but it did the exact opposite. It's not about Kobayashi or Jigen leaving, it's about Jigen staying. And why he stays. And why he wants to stay.
I just... I can't express with words how much I'm feeling right now (that's what jumping up and down and flapping my hands off is for), so here, have this half baked post until I rewatch the episode and try to come up with more coherent thoughts.
Jesus fucking Christ I love this stupid anime so much.
