New Hyrule Warriors Characters I’d Love to See

So for stress relief lately, I’ve been going back to Hyrule Warriors Definitive, unlocking all the weapons and working on finishing the adventure maps. So of course, this put it in my head to think of other characters I’d like to see if a theoretical HW2 happened, like, keep the cast and add on to it as most Warriors games tend to do. So here are some I’d love to see.

Groose

C’mon, he needs to be in. Myself, I’ve never played Skyward Sword (rumors of it getting a Switch port make me hopeful), so I don’t know TOO much about him other than his hair’s amazing. Kit suggested he have a portable Groosinator for his weapon, a cannon he carries under his arm, and for sweeping attacks could swing it outward by its fuse.

Dampe

He’s been in a few games now, and there’s a fitting common LoZ item he could use for his weapon that hasn’t been referenced at all in HW : the Shovel. Obviously he could swing it around, swipe it through the air for attacks, but over on my Twitter, it was suggested we could reference his “gravekeeper” job by having him dig up undead type enemies for support, like Stalfos, Poes, and Redeads.

Mipha

One has to figure a HW2 would add some BotW content, and for starters, I’d love to see the four champions. I mean, hey, HW is all about time and dimension bending shenanigans, so I’m sure we can excuse having them around and alive. I could see Mipha actually having more of a “support” type special attack. They’ve done things like this in Dynasty Warriors before. Like, she’d have a spear based moveset for her weapon based on her trident (BUT GANONDORF ALREADY HAS A TRIDENT, eh, some warriors have similar weapons with different movesets, so I think we can get away with it). But I could see her special attack doing some damage, but also healing allies around herself.

Revali

Yep, continuing on. Thing is, while the Bow is an item, and does show up in a few other movesets here and there (Zelda’s special attack, part of Ravio’s combos), we don’t have anyone that SPECIALIZES in just using a bow, so he could fill that niche nicely. I’m sure there’s some way to work his Revali’s Gale power into the moveset, likely his special.

Daruk

The trick would be making him different enough from Darunia, but he does have a totally different weapon in that sort of “club sword” he carries, forget exactly what it was named in game. He too could probably use his power in a support way, granting a defense buff to allies in the area where he uses it.

Urbosa

I could see her having a nice, fluid attack string with her scimitar, elegant and dance-like. Naturally her special would have her snap her fingers and call down lightning.

Kass

.......What? Warriors games are no stranger to silly “joke” characters, and honestly I love the idea of running across the battlefield as a large bird and clobbering enemies with an accordion.

Beedle

He’s been in enough of the games to where I feel like he deserves to get in. I’m admittedly not quite sure what he’d do though. I mean, we have Ravio, showing the idea of a fighting merchant can work, but Beedle’s stock doesn’t really have much in the way of weapons or such, does it?

Linebeck

I honestly thought we were going to get him in the Phantom Hourglass / Spirit Tracks DLC pack. He just seems like someone who should be there, you know? I’d guess his weapon would be his spyglass, though as to how it would work, I’m at a loss there.

Shad

The Resistance from Twilight Princess struck me as having some interesting characters, and Shad was my personal favorite. He does have that book with a dagger in it, I could see him using the book to put buffs on himself for his dagger attacks or something.

Ashei

I also really liked Ashei’s style, again we have the “similar weapons” deal, but her focused nature I think could lend itself to a different form of rapier fighting.

Vaati

Obviously we could also use more villains, and I feel like Vaati’s probably a major enough one to get a nod. Admittedly I haven’t played many of the games where he featured, so I don’t remember that much about him, but he’s just one of those that feels like he should be there.

Twinrova

One of the rare instances where there’s a boss that’s probably humanoid enough to work as a warrior, I could see her having fire and ice attacks as different charges in her attack string.

The Lady

Because hey, the villain side could use a joke character too. I feel like The Lady from Tri Force Heroes would fit the bill here, rapid jabs with her closed parasol, lines mocking the lack of style of her opponents, possibly even moves referencing the powers of some of the costumes from the game.

Also, two new weapons I’d like to see for existing characters :

Sheikah Slate for Sheik

One could make the case that it would be more fitting for Link or Zelda to use it, but, eh. they already both have multiple weapons. Sheik just has her harp. And I mean, technically Sheik IS Zelda, sooooo.... I think it would be fun for her to have attack strings casting runes from the slate, using Magnesis to pull out metal cubes and sweep them around for attacks, Stasis for her special, Bombs of course, I feel like there’s a lot they could do with it.

Four Sword for Toon Link

Really I just like the idea of controlling a mob of four Toon Links running around in different formations. Perhaps a neutral charge would change their formation a bit. Either that or the clones would just jump in during parts of attack strings or something.

Champion Swap Au (At least My version of it, could honestly be called “Role Swap au” I guess?)

I have ducks and botw on the mind folks! Not to mention head canons. Lots and lots of headcanons, stories, and theories. But uh, let’s get to the topic of this.

Breath of the wild!...It’s-it’s a good game... In all seriousness, I’ve recently got into the kick of it again and have been going through the internet for anything zelda related. And something that caught my eye were two specific aus. There was a role swap au (not actually the name of it and heck if it’s actually a set au or just a one time thing) and the “Sidon Champion” au. The first one just had characters swap places, but not the characters you’d expect to switch. To name a few switches: Riju goes to Zelda’s place, Link goes to King Rhoam, King Roam is in the Shiekah clan, and Zelda is in Urbosa’s place. I honestly think that’s a one off kinda idea someone made for fun or something. Heck, it could be the characters just dressing up as one another. Anyway, the Sidon au is as suggested. Instead of Mipha being the champion, Sidon is. Simple.

Now, the thought of the champions and descendants switching places came to mind and I thought I would kinda type it down for all to see. Now, let me just say I am obviously not the first to come up with this idea. Plenty of people probably thought about this, it’s a really predictable au. I just haven’t seen much for the idea and thought I’d kinda do my style on the role switch. With that all out of the way, let’s go.

To start, who’s switching with who here? I’ll just name the two characters and those two will switch places to make this easier and quicker to type for me:

Link and Zelda

Revali and Teba

Mipha and Sidon

Daruk and Yunobo

Urbosa and Riju

And then I’m having a difficult time picking if I want Impa and Rhoam to switch or Ganon and King Rhoam to switch. Voice your opinion, but that’s all who’s really switching. Another thing I thought about is the master sword. Seeing as Zelda goes into Link’s place and she’s more seen with a bow than a sword, I thought maybe the master sword and the light bow should switch. So it would be the master bow and light sword I guess. I mean, or ganon’s sword could be switched with the master sword. OR we just don’t touch that. Eh, tell me what you think. I never said I had everything set in stone.

But now that’s cleared up, how do I think they’ll act? Well, I feel like some would be the same, other’s not really. To start, Zelda and Link switches personalities. I just think that would work best considering they’ve swapped situations. While they swap personalities, I think Ravali, Teba, Daruk, Yunobo, Urbosa, and Riju would be the same as they are in the game. I know, kinda boring but it would be pointless to also switch their personalities. Then it’d be the same but with faces in different places. I imagine Teba and Riju gladly taking the title of champion while Yunobo doesn’t feel confident himself and needs some convincing. Then Revali is still a jerk, Urbosa be her cool self, and Daruk is awesome. Great! But wait, we’re missing two people... ah yes, Mipha and Sidon.

Okay, so these two are a little more difficult. I can see them both switching personalities but I could also see them just keeping their own still. Maybe a mix? I dunno. But this is something I’ll toss up to you guys. Do you think they should switch personalities or no? I do have some thoughts though, just two small things. So, I think Sidon should have a crush on Zelda to mirror how Mipha has a crush on Link. I think this is something that should stay even if he keeps his own personality. Another one is how Mipha could introduce herself. Going off the idea if the siblings switch personalities, Mipha needs to have her own pose. Y’know, like how Sidon gives that big smile and puts his hand up kinda. Y’know, like his pose? Well, I feel like Mipha would actually have this kinda pose:

So you know, I was thinking her doing the peace sign by the side of her face initially while winking. Or she does a double peace sign. I don’t know why I think she’d do something like this, it just feels like it would fit.

So, the last thing I really have to say are the ability names and what they say. So this’ll be quick.

Teba: “Teba’s Squall has been prepared.”

Sidon: “Sidon’s gift is now ready!”

Yunobo: “Yunobo’s Guard is ready for you!”

Riju: “Riju’s wrath is ready to go!”

If you guys have alternative names, I am open as these were hard to make. Tried to make the words synonyms to gale, grace, protection, and fury. Teba and Sidon was the most difficult and I fell flat with the prince. Was going to do blessing or glory, but I didn’t think it really fit well (at least glory in terms of Sidon’s character, he just wouldn’t name it something with “glory” in it).

So yeah... this was a thing I can say I did. Nothing much, just spit balling some ideas since I can’t find much on this topic. So uh, see you later I guess?

Just going with 3 things I’ve been playing most recently so...

1. FFXV 2. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 3. Tales of Berseria

The first character you loved: 1. Prompto 2. Link... of course 3. Velvet

The character you never expected to love so much: 1. Ignis. Like holy fuck. Here’s this walking embodiment of bland with a cowlick hairdo and zero personality beyond “hello yes I am perfection incarnate” but then... he talked... and had personality, and though I really wish he’d had more backstory I FELL SOO FUKKIN DEEP INTO IGGY HELL AT WARP SPEEDS LOLOLOL 2. Revalli. He’s like... pseudo tsunderi prick and I love him xD Like his personality type can be really tricky, and a lot of times when I’ve seen it it’s been too much and I really hated that character. But Revalli just feels more balanced. Maybe because he’s a bird guy, but also because you can hear him getting worried and genuinely caring in his own ways for Link. Plus, some of his narcissism is kind of understandable considering the attitude of the race, and his legitimate achievements. 3. Magilou! I thought she was pretty much just gonna be walking, sexy, “omg did I do thaaaaat lol -insert fan service- character but she honestly ended up being my favorite <3

The character you relate to most: 1. Probably Prompto tbh. Like he’s really happy and sweet. He is a complex character with layers like... all this self loathing and insecurity and anxiety, but he will take it and force it down in order to help his friends and be a shoulder to lean on, despite his own feelings. He’s always trying his hardest. He has his good times, he has his bad times, but he still pushes through. 2. hmmn... Sidon? Because I try to be extremely supportive and friendly to people? x’D 3. Probably Zaveid. Becaaaaaaause I’m against hurting things, I am pretty fiercely loyal to my people, and I get hella salty over things similarly to how he does in game x’D

The character you’d slap: 1. Gladi! I know that seems obvious, but hear me out. I know the guy gets a lot of hate. It’s not that I hate him. I honestly -love- Gladio, especially early game. I really feel that he needs a good slap post Altissia, because even though he eventually buckles and starts trying to make amends, he never apologizes, and I feel like he really did take some things too far. I really just want an apology, and maybe a strong slap across the face will yield that xD But yeah, for the record, I love Gladi, but I wanna slap him. 2. Zelda ZEldA ZELdA ZELDA! omfg it takes more... than a single. journal... saying “ooooh whoops I guess that was bad” to make up for what an incredibly awful person you were towards the guy who was just ordered to watch you and WHO DIDN’T CHOOSE TO BE... THE CHOSEN ONE! CRIPES! 3. Melchior because fuck that asshole...

Three favourite characters (in order of preference): 1. Ignis, Ardyn, Gentiana 2. Sidon, Revalli, Mipha 3. Magilou, Eizen, Rokurou

A character you liked at first but don’t anymore: 1. Okay so I wouldn’t say “I don’t like anymore” but I gotta second what Agi was saying. Prompto. I really adored Prompto, but seeing the divisions in fandom over the character and the ways he is portrayed often just makes me kinda... less fond. I like canon Prompto, and the people I RP Prompto with and stuff has also done him good and fun IMO (I’m not judging people’s interpretations of him etc), but as a whole it’s made me enjoy the character a bit less :/ 2. Laphicet/Phi. It was all great till they did the weird “You’re like my sister but the way I talk and approach these situations makes me seem kinda incesty too” and it was just kinda... eh. Again, I wouldn’t even say I “Don’t like him anymore”, just it definitely dulled my enjoyment of the character. 3. Urbosa. Again, not a “don’t like anymore”, more of a “I love her but I hate her sometimes too”. See in BotW, I really hated how they -really- pushed “oh hey Zelda is special. She’s SO special. She works SO hard...” all the time, and Urbosa kinda pushed that the hardest and I was just kinda like “eh... can we move past this now? Please?”

A character you did not like at first but do now: 1. Cindy. She’s still far from my -favorite- character, but as I did more quests of hers I warmed up to her a bit more. Wish she had a bit more to her because I’m p. sure she’s capable of building like... an epic mech or something xD And of course I wouldn’t mind if she maybe wore something more becoming of a hardcore mechanic... not to say a mechanic wouldn’t/couldn’t dress like that, but just... if she’s the type who is supposedly “really into her work” to the point that she’s pretty blind to people hitting on her, I’d think she’d probably dress a lot more plain and covered to avoid injury and what not... possibly more like Cid or something :/ 2. Riju. Like I really thought she was just gonna be bratty mc child queen -tm- but she turned out to be pretty okay and likeable actually! Like I genuinely feel she’s trying to do what she can to uphold the ideas of her mother while also still genuinely just being a kid, though not in the annoying way. 3. Eleanor. I mean, I think she’s supposed to be the “character you like at first and get to liking later” so good on yah xD But anyways, she’s just... really hard to choke down for a while. Like she’s all about the loyalty and righteousness and even as it’s really strongly pointed out that her side isn’t all too righteous, she’s still like “Well you’re bad anyway so I’m only doing this cause I have to and plah plah” and it gets really old. Like even after she comes around fairly well, it’s still like “well I don’t knooooooooow I still don’t -really- think I should -really- accept and trust you and this is only for such and such” but I digress. Later on, though she still gets on my nerves, I didn’t mind putting her on my team~

Three OTPs: 1. (other than my OC/Canon of Ashe and Ignis? lol) Gladio/Sania 2. I don’t really have an OTP... but I do like Mipha/Link (SHE MADE ME ARMOR?! HELL YAH MARRY ME <3 ) 3. Eizen and Rokurou (but like.. brotp instead of otp) though I also like Velvet/Eleanor alright :3
