#I truly think ACD Adler is more feminist than Sherlock BBC Irene who runs around naked
Text
I love ACD Irene Adler.
Don't get me wrong, Watson's account of the events is still really sexist and many things he and Holmes (not to mention the king - but he's not supposed to be liked by the reader) say make me go urgh, but Irene Adler is simply living her best life. She keeps the photograph because she knows that men (e.g. the king) take advantage of her otherwise and she won't have that happen. Other than that, she doesn't give a damn about her ex and just goes on with her life in a way she sees fit.
But what I love most is how she fools Holmes not only once, but twice. Because strictly speaking, Holmes failed with this case. Yes, he found the photograph, but he couldn't retrieve it - because he underestimated Adler and she was one step ahead of him. Oh, to be one step ahead of Sherlock Holmes! He failed to recognize her in disguise (while she by following him unseen made out who he really was, although he was disguised as well). And then she left the country and took the photo with her and Holmes didn't anticipate this for even one second.
And I love how Holmes simply acknowledges her and his defeat and silently revises his view of women without falling in love.
