Derek Peth Leaves Bachelor in Paradise After Blowout Fight
Tumblr media
Bachelor in Paradise contestant Derek Peth has left the show following yet another blowup with John Paul Jones. Another huge fight erupts between the two contestants.
Fans were first introduced to Peth on JoJo’s season of The Bachelorette in 2016, then he graced everyone with his presence on Bachelor in Paradise season 4 in 2017, at the end of which he became engaged to contestant Taylor Nolan. The engagement didn’t last though which is how viewers found Peth back on their screens for the current season of Bachelor in Paradise. Before getting involved in drama with John Paul Jones and Tayshia Adams, Peth found himself in a love triangle with contestant Demi Burnett and her girlfriend from home - Kristian Haggerty. Haggerty was brought on to the beach by the show’s producers, and in the end, Demi chose Haggerty over Peth. Peth was widely praised for how maturely he handled the situation, so much so that many fans thought his behavior put him in the running to be the next Bachelor. Following his breakup with Demi, Peth was interested in coupling up with Adams, and found himself in another love triangle. Jones and Peth got into an argument during last week’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise while attending Chris Randone and Krystal Neilsen’s wedding, and though it seemed like things might’ve been resolved then, that was far from the case.
Related: Bachelor in Paradise: Mila Kunis’ Impression of John Paul Jones is Perfection
Monday night’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise (via People) ended in Peth’s departure, which no one was expecting, but how did we get there? During the episode, Peth approached Jones in order to "seek some understanding as to where this all started" in regards to the Jones-Peth-Adams love triangle. There was added confusion for everyone because Jones is currently coupled up with Haley Ferguson, who said she wasn’t even aware Jones had strong feelings for Adams, so his reaction seemed out of the blue to Ferguson. Jones continued to insist to Peth that he (Jones) was the right choice for Adams, to which Peth replied, "She gets to decide that, not you." At no point did either men speak with Adams about the situation during that fight, and Adams said to the camera that it was "exhausting" and "very frustrating."
Tumblr media
The following morning, Adams took the opportunity to speak to both men separately. After breaking things off with Jones, she went to speak with Peth, which was the beginning of the end. Adams told Peth that she didn’t think she’d be able to "get there" with him, in regards to where his feelings for her were at. Adams continued to reassure a confused Peth that she didn’t think there was anything he could’ve done better, but Peth still said he was filled with "sadness" and "self-loathing" which is when he made the decision to speak to the cast. Upon calling everyone together, Peth announced he would be leaving the show on his accord, much to the shock of his fellow cast members. He addressed the cast saying, "I thank all of you guys for the friendships that I’ve built here, but unfortunately this time for me that’s all I’ve been able to build" and with that - Peth exited the show.
Despite Peth leaving the show, Adams says she is still unsure how she feels about Jones, and it's unclear if Adams will find love in paradise. She could give her rose to Jones, or maybe to newcomer Matt Donald who seemed to have sparked Adams' interest. Adams may even choose to return to the still-single Blake Horstmann, who has seen his fair share of drama on this season of Bachelor in Paradise as well. Though there are a few solid, happily in love couples like Hannah Godwin and Dylan Barbour, there are still plenty of single people left to stir up drama for the rest of the season.

Dean Unglert returned to Bachelor in Paradise, and he wasn’t there to collect the mustache he shaved off.
After dumping Caelynn Miller-Keyes on her birthday earlier this season, Dean came back to reveal that he had a change of heart and wanted Caelynn to leave the beach with him. But Caelynn connected with Connor Saeli in Dean’s absence, so she felt torn about whether to stay or go, though Connor made it clear that he wanted her to remain in paradise with him.
RELATED: BiP‘s Caelynn Miller-Keyes Speaks Out after Blake Hortsmann Exposed Their Text Messages
“I feel like I can definitely see a future outside of this with you,” he told Caelynn. “I don’t want you to leave. I don’t want it to be over.”
Connor added that he didn’t think Dean had changed — as Dean assured her, “I’m a changed man.”
“I’m scared of getting hurt again,” Caelynn told Dean.
“I can’t tell you exactly what’s going to happen next, but I know I want to try,” Dean said.
Caelynn accepted his offer, admitting, “It feels wrong.”
Connor felt devastated and contemplated leaving the show until he scored a date with newcomer Revian Chang from Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor. “Cheers to an amazing day,” he said over champagne during their date. “Thanks to you for helping me feel better.”
“I’m Just Scared”
A few other couples struggled, though. Demi Burnett scored a date card and used it to ask out Kristian Haggerty. Demi took the opportunity to confront Kristian about acting flirty with other women in the cast.
“I feel like she’s more interested in them than me,” Demi confessed in an on-camera interview. “It’s just getting to me. Like, I can’t. I can’t watch it. I don’t want to see that.”
Demi worried that Kristian’s tendency to get physical with other women stemmed from Demi’s own aversion to PDA.
“I feel like I’m not giving her enough, but I’m also struggling with my inner battle of being worried about how I’m making other people feel, which shouldn’t matter, but it does,” Demi said. “I hate that my brain works that way but I’m just scared. It has everything to do with me being uncomfortable with being gay around people … being gay around all these people who thought I was some straight girl. It’s scary.”
She continued, “I’m getting comfortable with it, but it’s taking me some time. I feel so guilty because I feel bad for it taking time and I want to give her what she needs but I’m still uncomfortable with it because I don’t want people to be like, ‘That’s weird.’ I don’t want people to stare and be like, ‘Oh my God, you’re kissing.’ It’s just stressing me out and I’m trying not to be so concerned about myself and trying to think about her.”
Kristian assured Demi that the way she acted towards other women on the beach wasn’t intended to be romantic.
“I’m so physical with all of my friends,” Kristian explained. “It’s just, I don’t see it as flirting in my eyes because here’s no flirt intention behind whoever I touched today or whatever bothered you today.”
Kristian also understood the initial discomfort that came with coming out, and assured Demi, “It doesn’t change how I feel about you.”

Blake’s Last Attempt at Love
Although Demi and Kristian overcame a hurdle, Blake Horstmann and Kristina Schulman couldn’t move past their past — despite Blake being convinced Kristina is the one for him.
“I have allowed myself to think about Kristina as being the mother of my children and as being my wife,” Blake said in an on-camera interview. “There’s something undeniable between us. We can’t deny each other anymore. We can’t deny the feelings that we have.”
To reconnect with Kristina, Blake made his own date card for the two of them. “Her heart does know that I’m the one for her,” he told the cameras. “I’m taking matters into my own hands.”
But as soon as their romantic evening began, it came to an end.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to get where I need to get,” Kristina told Blake. “I can’t get there if I’m being real. It would’ve been very misleading of me to continue these things. I’m sorry.”
“I did not expect this to go this way,” Blake said.
When Kristina rejoined the group on the sand, she announced that she was leaving Paradise. Then Blake shared the same sentiment with Clay Harbor. “Paradise just isn’t for me,” he told Clay.

In the van on his way home, Blake wondered if maybe his Paradise ending resulted from the tangled web of love he wove earlier in the season with Kristina, Caelynn, Hannah Goodwin and Tayshia Adams (who went to an oceanfront, DIY prom courtesy of John Paul Jones during Monday’s episode).
“Part of me thinks I deserve this,” Blake said. “This is karma, you know?”
Bachelor in Paradise continues on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Bachelor in Paradise: Dean Unglert Asks Caelynn Miller-Keyes for Another Chance After Dumping Her
WARNING: The following post contains spoilers. Derek Peth‘s decision to leave the beaches of Bachelor in Paradise sent ripples through the cast. Bachelor in Paradise: Why Caelynn Should Reject Dean’s Apology After Return
Tumblr media
Caelynn Miller-Keyes should reject Dean Unglert's apology upon his return to Bachelor in Paradise. She deserves someone who is ready for a real relationship, and Unglert has proven he's not that guy.
Unglert waltzed on to the scene a few weeks into Paradise, with a new look and new perspective on life. His homelessness and questionable streak of hair above his upper lip didn't deter Miller-Keyes, who was looking for a steady partner following the Blake Horstmann debacle. Unglert fit the bill temporarily, serving as the dam in her river of Paradise misfortune. But the instant connection they experienced on their one-on-one was a false front. Unglert didn't have the intention of finding a wife, and no matter how strong his relationship with Miller-Keyes was, he knew it would not last.
Related: Bachelor In Paradise: Demi Burnett & Kristian Haggerty Engagement Teased In Photo
That is, at least, before he returned. A preview shows a clip of Unglert strolling back into Mexico sans mustache to, potentially, try begging for Miller-Keyes' forgiveness. He is seen saying to Miller-Keyes, "I made a mistake." Her eyes go wide when she hears this. Then the camera shows a shot of Connor Saeli. At the wedding, Miller-Keyes had eyes for Saeli, and the two hit it off and exchanged a kiss. Saeli chose her for the one-on-one date, where they painted a picture with their bodies. She seemed to be into Saeli and excited about seeing where things could go.
Tumblr media
This would be a refreshing change for Miller-Keyes, who for once would be dating someone who doesn't suffer from indecisiveness, as Horstmann and Unglert very clearly do. With Saeli, at the very least, Miller-Keyes can enjoy the rest of her time in Paradise, even if it doesn't lead to engagement right away or even a relationship outside of Mexico. Unglert, meanwhile, perpetually has one foot in the deep end and one foot in the kiddie pool. He's very skilled at pulling women in with his charming smile and endearingly self-deprecating personality, but he doesn't have a plan once a relationship reaches the level where serious conversations are necessary.
Perhaps Unglert has experienced a 180 in the - what, one, two days - since he left the show. Maybe he realized that his life would never be the same without Miller-Keyes in it; that he actually is ready to settle down after all and leave his van/house at the curb. If he truly did have his coming-to-Bachelor-gods moment in the hours since his breakup with Miller-Keyes, that's great for him. But Miller-Keyes shouldn't have to beg for her man to be ready for her. She's worthy of a gentleman who knows exactly who he wants and what he wants. Unglert may not be a deceiving person but he's not the man for Miller-Keyes. If he was, he wouldn't have ran off in the first place.

Insys exec gave doctor lap dance while promoting drug, witness says
BOSTON (Reuters) – An ex-stripper who became a regional sales director at Insys Therapeutics Inc gave a doctor a lap dance at a Chicago club as the drugmaker pushed the doctor to prescribe its addictive fentanyl spray, a former Insys employee testified on Tuesday.
John Kapoor, the billionaire founder of Insys Therapeutics Inc, arrives at the federal courthouse for the first day of the trial accusing Insys executives of a wide-ranging scheme to bribe doctors to prescribe an addictive opioid medication, in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S., January 28, 2019. REUTERS/Brian Snyder
The testimony in federal court in Boston came in the first criminal trial of painkiller manufacturer executives over conduct that authorities say contributed to a U.S. opioid abuse epidemic that has killed tens of thousands of people a year.
Former Insys sales representative Holly Brown told jurors the incident with her boss, Sunrise Lee, took place after Insys began rewarding the doctor for prescribing its opioid product by paying him to speak at educational events about the drug.
That Illinois doctor, Paul Madison, is one of several whom prosecutors say Lee and four other former Insys executives and managers including wealthy founder and ex-chairman John Kapoor conspired to bribe to boost sales of the spray, Subsys.
Lee, Kapoor, Michael Gurry, Richard Simon and Joseph Rowan deny wrongdoing and have pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has only approved Subsys for treating cancer pain. Prosecutors allege doctors paid by Insys often prescribed Subsys to patients without cancer. Defense lawyers note, though, that doctors may prescribe medications for off-label purposes.
Drugmakers often retain doctors to speak at events with other clinicians about the benefits of their drugs, and defense lawyers argue the events were legal compensation for the doctors’ educational work.
Yet Brown said Madison’s events, held at a Chicago restaurant Kapoor owned, were attended by his friends instead of clinicians.
“The idea was these weren’t really meant to be educational programs but were meant to be rewards to physicians,” Brown said.
After one dinner in mid-2012, Brown said she, Lee and Madison went to a club, where she witnessed Lee “sitting on his lap, kind of bouncing around.”
“He had his hands sort of inappropriately all over her chest,” Brown said.
Brown testified that at the time, Madison ran a “notorious” medical practice, which in a 2012 email shown to jurors she described as a “shady pill mill.”
Prosecutors say Insys paid Madison at least $70,800 in speaker fees.
Asked on cross-examination by Lee’s attorney, Peter Horstmann, if Madison “appeared to be taking advantage of Ms. Lee,” Brown said yes.
Madison was convicted in November of unrelated charges that he defrauded insurers into paying for unperformed chiropractic procedures. His lawyer did not respond to requests for comment.
