Major display problem on new Pixel 7 pro
The display has a horrible yellow tint and cannot display white color tones. The colors are also seriously washed out - resetting/updating and turning off night light make no difference. Easily realised when comparing with another similar display (120Hz Amoled)
More details in the link given; I have added my issue case with pics as well to the existing support forum.
pixel 7 pro colors are washed out/ yellowish tint display
Horrible experience with Flipkart (only site partner in India to sell Pixel 7 phones) for replacement where they are ignoring all reminders and escalations and closed return incidents the day after return period was over.

THE GOOGLE PIXEL 7 AND PIXEL 7 PRO ARE THE FIRST ANDROID PHONES TO ONLY SUPPORT 64-bit APPS
Tumblr media
THE GOOGLE PIXEL 7 AND PIXEL 7 PRO ARE THE FIRST ANDROID PHONES TO ONLY SUPPORT 64-bit APPS - There has been a lot going on if you've been following the Google Pixel 7 series launch. The kernel sources for both devices have just been released, there is a display problem that appears to reduce battery life, and reviews are beginning to trickle in. Users are beginning to test and look into products as soon as they can get their hands on them. It turns out that the Google Pixel 7 series of Android devices may be the first to solely support 64-bit software. Rahman later clarified that, contrary to what had been previously stated, Android 13 is a 64-bit Zygote with a 32-bit and 64-bit userspace. However, this gives some validity to the rumour that the Google Pixel tablet would only ship with a 64-bit build of Android 13. This means that you won't be able to install any apps that don't contain 64-bit libraries. This contains earlier versions of programmes like Jetpack Joyride and even earlier programmes that are no longer functional, like Flappy Bird. It's not like Tensor G2 doesn't support it either; each of its three cores can execute AArch32. As they did in their earlier handsets, Google might have made 32-bit functionality available. The Android Binary Interfaces (ABI) listing indicates that neither "armeabi-v7a" nor "armeabi" are present. Although "arm64-v8a" support is mentioned, Android only supports the AArch64 instruction set, according to the documentation.
what advantages does it offer?
What does this signify, and what advantages does it offer? The majority of the advantages won't actually be noticeable to customers because the absence of new ABIs has led to improvements in performance, security, and cost. Since August 2019, all apps on the Google Play Store are required to include 64-bit compatibility, and last year, the business ceased providing 32-bit apps without any 64-bit support.
CONCULUSION
Nobody should be concerned if they own a Pixel 7 series device. There aren't many programmes out there that use 64-bit libraries, and Flappy Bird appears to be the most well-known example thus far. However, if you do discover any more, please let us know in the comments! Read the full article

It's a terrific monitor for most uses that need to please the maximum serious game enthusiasts or humans just trying to loosen up and watch some films with friends. 6.6 HDR Gaming Moving one, the colors are in addition fascinating, and opposite to a majority of the monitors underneath 300, the colors aren't oversaturated, however instead pretty herbal, but vibrant sufficient for me to experience images and motion pictures in a easy format. FreeSync See It Acer Predator XB273K
I’ve to admit the producer has accomplished a pretty incredible job of creating this monitor aesthetically appealing and on the equal time functional. “ Features and Benefits And, for aggressive video games like Rocket League, Overwatch, Fortnite, League of Legends, etc. wherein the snap shots aren’t the important promoting point of the game, you’d in all likelihood be higher off going with the higher refresh charge. It can also deliver a quite first rate HDR enjoy, higher than a few TVs. 7.1 HDR Gaming The biggest determining component in whether or not a 1440P display would be well worth it for you is what your total price range it. The funny factor about 1440P monitors is that, on the decrease end of the market (1440P 60Hz), they certainly aren’t priced an awful lot in a different way than the lower give up of the 4K market (4K 60Hz). You can find entry-stage 4K video display units for ~$2 hundred and the same is proper for entry-level 1440P video display units. IPS

The Popularity of Mac Laptops Among the Young Generation of The 21st Century
Macbooks are not only famous among young generations but it is also popular among professionals due to the quality and standards of their products.
Apple products have a major share in the market of technology as they manufacture quality phones, laptops, and tablets that are good and fast than most products.
History of Apple
Apple was started in the garage of Steve Jobs on 1st April 1976 by the two partners Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. They started their first project by making the Apple I computer which was sold without any keyboard, casing, or a monitor.
The great success of this system generated sales of $7.8 million and when they manufactured Apple II the sales suddenly jumped to $117 million in 1980. But in 1983 Steve Wozniak left the company as he was losing interest in Apple.
After the 2004 iMac and in 2006 MacBook was manufactured and it was a great success for the company.
But in addition to computers and laptops, Apple manufactured its first iPod in 2001, iPhone in 2006, the first iPad in 2010, and the first Apple watch in 2015. All of these products made the company a popular and well-known brand due to their features, qualities, and personal operating system called IOS.
These are revolutionary products and are found in a new form after huge upgrades in software, as well as in hardware. The latest products of the Apple are Macbook Pro, iPad Air, iPhone 13, and watch series 7 which are one of the best-selling products in the market.
But why these products are so popular among young generations?
Why Apple Products Are Popular Among the Young Generations
Apple always introduces some innovations for its users and changes the whole world of technology using its latest technology and great design.
Young generations always prefer to buy Apple products even when they can get more features in the same price range.
Why is it so? It is because Apple is a trusted brand and almost all products are above the standards and provide its users with a great user experience which was the basic aim of Steve Jobs. One more quality of Apple Products is that there are professionals in every area who can check your products in case of any issue or damage to your device. Apple Expert for Mac Repair Calgary or Iphone Repair Calgary are one of those examples where the professional engineers are always ready to sort out your any problem regarding to any Apple Device.
But what are the qualities due to which it is famous? Let’s check about the most popular features along with their advantages.
Design
The most premium design in the world of technology is manufactured by Apple. All latest products are sleek with a shiny metal design to attract users.
Not only the design but also the logo of Apple always attracts everyone towards itself as it gives the product a premium look.
The slim design adds to the beauty of the products.
Operating System
The system on which iPhone, iPad, or Mac laptops work is great as it doesn’t disturb you or get stuck while using.
This IOS system is great for both whether you are doing professional work or you are using it for personal use.
The operating system is only used by apple and is not found in any other device which differentiates Apple from the rest of the companies.
Display
When it comes to the Display, Apple beats every other company in the graphics and display which they give to their products such as their iPhones or their iPads.
The color accuracy and the perfect pixel’s density make the user believe in what they are watching on these Apple products.
But sometimes the display gets broken and the repair cost is a little expensive, but don’t worry you can find a cheaper repair service at iPhone Repair Calgary.
Battery Life
Long-lasting products always need a long-lasting battery and Apple has provided its users with both of these services.
Although the battery life of old products of apply was not good, the battery life of the latest Apple products is amazing and lasts longer than most devices available on the market.
Besides all these advantages, there are also some disadvantages of these Apple products that make some users select products other than apple.
Disadvantages of Apple
Although Apple users have many advantages, there are also some disadvantages that almost every apple user faces. These advantages are
Price
When the user switches to premium quality and high standard products, the price also increases, and in the case of Apple products, the whole scenario is the same.
If you want to buy an Apple product, you have to spend a handsome amount of money on the latest product.
Upgrades
This option is not available on MacBook but is present in almost every other laptop. This means you can increase the RAM or ROM of a standard laptop according to your demand but you can’t do so with your MacBook.
This is the drawback of using a MacBook instead of a standard laptop.
Storage
The most common issue that almost every user face is the storage problem as you cannot increase the storage of your iPhone or MacBook with the help of external storage cards.
This storage increase option is available in almost every other product.
Although the storage of apple is enough but sometimes you’ll need to store a large amount of data and to solve this problem you cannot increase the storage of the device.
These were some disadvantages that most Apple users face but these are just negligible in front of the advantages that it provides to its customers. These can be neglected by looking at the endless features and qualities.

Display
Combo GPS units that are built with 7-and 9-inch displays and waterproof are an excellent choice for the best fish finder GPS combos for small boats. The good display should have a resolution of at least 800x480 pixels and LED backlight technology to be easily readable in all lighting or weather conditions. Note that IPX6 means that the device is resistant to water jet from a 12.5 mm nozzle, with the rate of 100 liters per minute, for at least three minutes, while IPX7 means that the device is resistant to immersion in water, up to 3.2 feet deep, for 30 minutes.
Transducers
Different fishing types need various appropriately corresponding transducers. Open-water anglers would require deep-signal sending transducers, whereas inland-water fishers prefer transducers with a wider angle of sound wave transmission.
Frequency
Higher fishfinder frequency yields higher-detail reception on to your fish finder screen. Open-water trawlers require low-frequency transducers, whereas the high-frequency versions are ideal for the shallow-water fishing. The most common frequencies range from 50 to 200 kHz.
Display Screen
When buying fishfinder combos, do consider the display. The best ones are equipped with modern, full-color displays, in place of the traditional black-and-white. These clearer-color screens have become increasingly popular, so chances are that the device of your choice would anyway bring a color display.

CHIRP Sonar and Transducer
The Axiom 7, as its name simples, is built with a 600W traditional 2D sonar and an integrated DownVision sonar module, which provides a spectacular view of the underwater. Bearing striking similarities as the Axiom 7 RV variant, the device comes with an internal solar app that is also ready for RealVision 3D and SideVision sonar, but you need to use an RV-100 transducer for RV 3D and CPT200 SideVision external sonar module for SideVision. So to clear up the confusion, the included transducer for the device is for 2D High-Frequency CHIRP and DownVision only.
The Raymarine Axiom 7’s DownVision sonar provides a relatively better depth capability compared to the RV-100’s RealVision 3D. The former can scan waters up to 600 feet deep, while the 2D sonar can reach depths up to 900 feet, respectively.

The Axiom 7 device has an Autopilot app, which must be integrated with an Evolution autopilot system. This way, it will act as the autopilot’s controller. Radar and AIS applications are also available with this unit, but you’ll need an AIS and Radar module to enable their functionality.
The Axiom 7 device can record up to 10,000 waypoints, allowing you to assign various icons for them and mark your points of interest. You can organize up to 200 waypoints per group and create up to 150 routes with up to 250 waypoints per route. You can record up to 16 tracks, with up to 10,000 track points per track.
2. Raymarine Dragonfly-5 Pro Sonar/GPS with US C-Map Essentials
The year 2017 marked the release of one of Raymarine’s best fish finder GPS combos under 1,000— the Dragonfly 5PRO. The device employs state-of-the-art sonar and DownVision technology to provide all anglers, novice or seasoned, with a splendid underwater view.

Further ability to custom map a body of water
IPX6 and IPX7 waterproof
Compatibility with Lighthouse Charts, SonarChart, C-MAP by Jeppesen and Navionics Gold and HotMaps
One of the lowest price points in its class
Target Depth ID
The LCD bonding technology employed in the 5PRO’s display
Upgradable software
WiFish mobile app
CONS
Sun cover has to be paid for as an accessory
Design
Like all the other Dragonfly models, the 5PRO is designed on simplicity. It only has four buttons and one control pad. Its menu system is user-friendly and allows the user to have the most intuitive use of technology. As with the other Dragonfly models, the 5 PRO is waterproof the IPX6/7 standards. Its screen is equipped with optically-bonded LCD technology, offering both bright and high contrast for excellent readability even on the sunniest of days.
A lot of fishermen enjoy using different watercrafts for different locations. If you’re one of them, you need a device such as the Raymarine Dragonfly 5 Pro, which is easy to set up and breakdown. No wonder, this model is widely preferred as a good inexpensive fish finder for kayaks.
CHIRP Sonar and Transducer
Dragonfly 5 Pro features both DownVision and 2D CHIRP sonar. All in all, the CHIRP technology in both types of sonar offer neat, crisp imaging and excellent target separation. The transducer includes a water temperature sensor.
We want to mention a few other aspects regarding this device’s sonar. For starters, the sonar feed scrolls from right to left. The scroll speed can be adjusted. By default, it’s set to 100%, but it can be downgraded to 10%. Pause and zoom are also included functions, but the device does not have a snapshot function.
The device features a similar function to the Selective Fish ID in Humminbird Helix units or the Fish Symbol ID in Garmin echoMAP units. It’s called Target Depth ID and it’s a function that displays the depths of targets onscreen. The strength of targets, which displays depth ID is related to the Fish sensitivity setting, accessible from the Alarms menu. However, this function does not assign fish icons to targets.
GPS and Navigation
The 5PRO comes with a particular chart bundle, the Navionics+, covering North American waters, all the Great Lakes details, plus 18,000 US Inland Lakes (2,500 lakes containing 1-foot contour) as well as all Canadian lakes found on the HotMaps Canada product.
The device includes a powerful, quick, accurate 72-channel internal GPS. It also offers the possibility to save waypoints and tracks, having a capacity of 3,000 waypoints, and 15 tracks with 10,000 points each.
The device also allows you to categorize waypoints, as it is able to store 100-waypoint groups, with up to 3,000 waypoints per group. However, if one group has 3,000 (which is the maximum amount for one unit), you won’t be able to save other waypoints in another group. Saved waypoints and tracks can be imported and exported via microSD card.
3. Raymarine Dragonfly-7 Pro Sonar/GPS with US C-Map Essentials
Belonging to the series metaphorically described as a glance to the future of sonars, the Dragonfly 7 Pro is a great choice for the best fish finder GPS combos under 1,000. It is packed to the brim with user-friendly features, allowing you to spend less time fiddling with the device and more time reeling in more fish. Its CHIRP technology is one of its outstanding features, enabling transmission of a wide spectrum of frequencies, resulting in crisp, clear images. With the Dragonfly 7’s trackback feature lets you rest easy, as it stores search history and retraces waypoints easily, saving your fuel and time.
PROS
Compatible with various chart bundles
Dual-channel sonar
Excellent depth capability, up to 900 feet
Fast and accurate GPS, with 72 GPS / GLONASS channels
Quick disconnection connector, unified power/transducer cable
U.S. Navionics+ charts included
Wi-Fi enabled
CONS
No Fish ID feature
No integrated sonar recording function
No NMEA connectivity
No touchscreen technology for its price
Design
The Dragonfly 7 Pro is created to be visually appealing, sporting a compact, lightweight design. Its waterproof display protects the screen from fogging up when it is cold. Its 7-inch 800x480-pixel display screen is noticeably brighter and crisper, also constructed from optically-bonded technology, producing brighter colors, higher resolution, and sharper contrast.
This fish finder features only a rotary dial and three buttons. This reduction makes the device significantly easier to operate. You can easily switch between GPS, split screen, and sonar features fluidly. You can use the rotary dial to navigate to your preferred screen.
CHIRP Technology
As with all the other models in the Dragonfly lineup, the 7 Pro features a broad-spectrum, CHIRP down-imaging sonar, which means that more sonar waves are sent out into the water, yielding more data for the computer and a more detailed image for the fisher. You’ll find this capability handy when you are trying to determine if you are looking at a fish or some inanimate object underwater. It also helps you to see the detail on the cover and structure you are fishing like never before possible.GPS and Navigation
The Dragonfly 7 PRO is equipped with a 72-channel, internal GPS / GLONASS module. It supplies extremely fast and accurate fixes and also able to track your boat’s speed.
Like 5 PRO, the device comes with the U.S. Raymarine-chart-view-05 Navionics+ charts, which cover the North American waters — all the Great Lakes details, plus 18,000 US Inland Lakes (approx. 2,500 lakes containing 1-foot contour) as well as all Canadian lakes found on the HotMaps Canada product. This device can also work with LightHouse vector and raster charts, SonarChart, Navionics Gold and HotMaps, and C-MAP by Jeppesen. The Dragonfly 7 PRO also allows you to save up to 3,000 waypoints and 15 tracks with 10,000 points each. And because this device is closely similar to the 5 PRO, you can also categorize its waypoints. The device is also able to store 100 waypoint groups, with up to 3,000 waypoints per group.
4. Raymarine Dragonfly 6 Navionics+ Fish Finder with CPT-60 Transducer
We have another Raymarine qualifier on this list of the best fish finder GPS combos under 1,000. The Dragonfly 6 actually bagged the 2013 Innovation Award for Consumer Electronics, Mobile Applications, and Software, presented by the National Marine Manufacturers Association, at the Miami International Show. Albeit this model has been around for quite a while now, it’s not equipped with the latest features as those of the Dragonfly PRO units. However, with its 50-channel GPS, horizontal-vertical split-screen capability, amazing depth capability, to name some, we believe the Dragonfly 6 is exceptional and does have plenty to offer.
PROS
Clear, bright display
Dual-channel sonar
Easy-to-use, straightforward multifunctional displays
Highly-precise GPS
Instant, accurate results
Made for both, professionals and beginners
Superior target separation
CONS
Depth finder does not work well sometimes
Does not give results when the boat is stationary
No sonar recording function
Not Wi-Fi capable
Design
Dragonfly 6’s screen offers just enough space for a proper reading of the sonar and maps. The split-screen function allows the view of two applications simultaneously. There are options for horizontal and vertical split screen views.
The device is ideal for open cockpit installations, due to its superior waterproofing capability. It’s built to withstand rain, heavy splashes, and even complete but quick submersion. The display offers great readability even when you’re wearing polarized sunglasses. The head unit is designed with a tilt-and-swivel mounting system. One of the features specific to the Raymarine units is their unified connector for the transducer cable and power.
Navigation through the menus and options is done mostly via the rotary controller. In terms of buttons, the device is pretty much simple, featuring only three: the Power and Shortcuts, the Back and View Switcher, and the UniControl buttons.CHIRP Sonar and Transducer
The standard transducer for this unit is the CPT-60, designed for transom mounting. It comes with a built-in temperature sensor. The cable length for it is 19.7 feet, which should be enough for a wide range of boats. However, in case you own a longer boat, you can opt for a 13.1-feet cable extension.
The advertised standard depth capability of this unit is 600 feet, for both DownVision and conventional CHIRP sonar. However, tests have shown that you can achieve 700 feet for freshwater and 890 feet for saltwater with it. The absolute minimum depth the Raymarine Dragonfly 6 can be used for is 2 feet. The underwater views provided by both types of sonar are very clear and sharp, without unnecessary noise. The target separation that can be achieved with this unit is 1.25 inches for the conventional CHIRP sonar and 1 inch for DownVision.
The transducer uses two distinctive sonar beams, one for each type of sonar. For the conventional CHIRP sonar, it uses a conical beam, with a 25-inch opening. For DownVision, it uses a fan-shaped sonar beam, with 60 inches side-to-side, and 1.4 inches front to back.GPS and Navigation
The 50-channel GPS locks pretty quickly and excels in accuracy. As mentioned in the specs above, the device comes with the Navionics Gold SD card and a mapping pack that covers Coastal, Inland US, and Canada waters.
This device features as waypoint function, being able to store up to 3,000 waypoints. Also, you can save up to 15 tracks (10,000 points each track). You will be able to backup your waypoints and tracks on a microSD card.
5. Garmin Echomap Chirp 74Cv with transducer
Dubbed as a combo with some “serious connections,” the ECHOMAP™ Plus 74cv is built with a 7" diagonal touchscreen with keypad-assist in case the screen gets wet and a transom mount transducer that dials in two kinds of sonar: ClearVü scanning and mid-band CHIRP traditional sonar. It creates a simple yet solid connection between your compatible mobile device and your charts, Chartplotter, maps and the community. It features Panoptix, which is an innovative sonar technology that lets you see live sonar images and view your bait and the fish attacking it in real time.
PROS
Compatible with various other chart types
Enhanced Auto Guidance-capable
Multiple Depth Range Shading
Preloaded with BlueChart g2 charts
Quick disconnection (tilt-swivel) and flush mount included
Supports AIS and DSC-capable VHF radio
Tide tables information
Sonar recording and rewind
CONS
Information on the manual isn’t specific to this model
Design
All the newer Garmin echoMAP CHIRP units feature a different connection system than those released in 2015. All cables plug into the mount, while the device plugs into the mount via a multiple pin connector. It offers NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 connectivity possibilities, an out for Panoptix transducers, and also features a microSD card slot for software updates, new charts, data transfer etc. The device is also compatible with various other equipment, such as AIS units, autopilot units etc.
As its name suggests, the device features a 7-inch WVGA display, with an 800 x 480-pixel matrix, LED backlight, also being IPX7 waterproof. There are various image combos available, with the device allowing you to view up to three panels simultaneously.
The box also includes tilt-and-swivel mount, flush mount, and a protective cover.
CHIRP Sonar
The echoMAP CHIRP 74cv unit is capable of 50/77/200 kHz frequencies for its traditional 2D sonar, but since it can use CHIRP, with the given transducer, it’s able to use Mid-Band CHIRP, the pulse being modulated between 80-160 kHz.
For ClearVü, the device can scan at 260/455/800 kHz, and the supplied transducer supports the 260/455 kHz modes.
Also, via CHIRP, the system can modulate the sonar pulse between 245-275 kHz and 445-465 kHz.
Transducer
Just as the Garmin echoMAP CHIRP 54cv, this unit comes with the GT23M-TM transducer. However, its cable features an 8-pin connector and not a 4-pin one.
With the supplied transducer, the system can scan depths up to 1,800 feet for 2D, and 1,000 feet (305) for Cv. However, with a deep-water transducer, capable of 50 kHz, it should be able to scan depths up to 2,300 feet. Also, the sailing speed recommended for a maximum amount of information delivered by the transducer is 1 to 6 MPH.
Just like the other Garmin units in this feature range, the echoMAP CHIRP 74cv includes several other sonar-related functions. Among these we can enumerate: Split-Zoom, Split-Frequency, Sonar Recording and Sonar Rewind, Circular Flasher, Bottom Lock, Data Graphs and more.
One last but equally important aspect to mention here is the Panoptix compatibility of the device. Panoptix is actually one of the newest sonar technologies available, which lets you see live sonar images and view your lure and the fish attacking it in real time.
GPS and Navigation
The ECHOMAP™ Plus 74cv is equipped with a fast and accurate, 5Hz internal GPS system, which can offer the position and heading updates five times per second. The speed of your vessel is also tracked via GPS. The device can also save up to 5,000 waypoints, and 100 routes. It also has a track recording function, allowing you to save 50,000 track points and up to 50 tracks.
This device has the BlueChart g2 maps, which cover the coastal waters of the U.S. and Bahamas, including West Coast, East Coast, the U.S. part of the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. BlueChart g2 also opens several functions, such as the Safety Shading option, via which you can designate up to 10 different depth ranges, and assign them to the depth contours, making it much easier to see target depth at a glance.
The ECHOMAP™ Plus 74cv is compatible with various other chart bundles, such as BlueChart g2 Vision and LakeVü HD Ultra (US or Canada). These chart packs come with an Enhanced Auto Guidance function, which instantly searches through your charts to offer the safest virtual paths between two points of interest.
6. Garmin Striker Plus 9SV with CV52HW-TM transducer
The powerhouse Garmin® Striker™ Plus 9sv Fishfinder/GPS Combo combines a big-screen view and optimized performance for the best fishfinder experience. One of the best fish finder GPS combos under 1,000, the device brings built-in high-sensitivity GPS, a transducer for built-in Garmin CHIRP traditional sonar plus CHIRP ClearVu and CHIRP SideVu scanning sonars, and the unique Garmin Quickdraw Contours live mapping system, which lets you create 1-foot contours of the area beneath and around you, live as you boat and fish, for up to an astonishing 2 million acres.
PROS
Depth Range Shading
Dual-frequency sonar
Integrated Wi-Fi and ActiveCaptainTM compatibility
IPX7 waterproof
Large, ultra-bright display
Quickdraw Contours
CONS
No microSD or SD card reader
Not networkable
Design
The Striker Plus 9sv comes with 800 x 480-pixel, WGVA-color display. It has incorporated LED backlight and is IPX7 waterproof, like the rest of the fish finder models in this list. The package only includes classic-tilt mount; unit cover and flush mount aren’t included.
One of the new features common in all the 7-inch and 9-inch Striker units is their Wi-Fi capability, which allows you to access the ActiveCaptain™ app. When hooked to a Wi-Fi connection, the device can receive smart notifications, get instant software updates, and access the QuickDraw Contours Community for waypoints and map sharing.
CHIRP Sonar and Transducer
The Striker Plus 9sv is built with the CV52HW-TM transducer, which integrates a temperature sensor, has 20 feet of cable with a transom mount, and a 12-pin connector. This transducer is capable of a High Wide CHIRP beam at 150-240 kHz, and 455 kHz (425-485 kHz) / 800 kHz (790-850 kHz) for ClearVü and SideVü.
The depth capability of this sonar beam is approximately 800 feet, but with a 50/200 kHz transducer, the system should be able to reach greater depths, up to 2,300 feet.
Like the ECHOMAP Plus units, the Striker Plus 9sv offers a full range of standard sonar features, including Fish Symbol ID sonar view, UltraScroll, AutoGain, Flasher mode for ice fishing, A-Scope, Bottom Lock, Fish Alarm, Depth Alarm, and many more.
GPS and Navigation
Although it’s not a full chartplotter as the ECHOMAP Plus 93sv for example, this Garmin fish finder does offer a basic set of navigation features. To begin with, it has the basic GPS plotter which shows the position of your boat on a blank sheet, without any charts.
The device doesn’t have a microSD or an SD card reader, so it cannot be upgraded, nor it is compatible with any charts. The device can also save up to 5,000 waypoints within its memory, show coordinates for any point marked and for your current location, and calculate the speed of your boat.
A track recording function and a route creation function are also available, enabling you to record your course to review or retrace later. You can also create routes by connecting several waypoints.
Although the device doesn’t have charts, it does have the Quickdraw Contours feature. The device utilizes the 2D sonar and the GPS information to determine and draw the depth contours of the body of water where you’re fishing. In other words, you can create personalized maps with up to 1-foot depth contours. The device can record up to 2 million acres and save up to 1,500 hours of recording.
Our Verdict
With a multitude of fish finder GPS models claiming to be as great as the Dragonfly 5 Pro, to see is indeed to believe. Without any qualms, we dare you to check for yourself all of its features and see if it is not the best fish finder GPS combo under 1,000 (at least, on this list). Its reasonable price tag—making it the least expensive device in this list—is the cherry on the cake. Apart from minor caveats such as its small screen size, it boasts virtually the same sophisticated specs and quality as its closest, more expensive relative, the Dragonfly 7.
When you decide to buy a fish finder combo, you would want to see if you’re putting your hard-earned money into one that lives up to its promises. The Dragonfly 5 Pro brings state-of-the-art sonar performance that will not only leave you in awe but also a productive, fun fishing experience every time you go out on the water.

Spacedesk is a popular choice to transform your Android into a second display monitor for Windows PC. You can connect your PC and Android via USB, Wi-Fi or LAN. The resolution is decent and you get touch support.
To get started, you need to install the necessary drivers on your Windows PC. If you need further help, here is a link to the documentation. The app is available for Windows 7 and above. Opening the app will automatically detect and display all PCs on the same server that has the drivers installed. Simply tap to connect. Launch the app on your Android and connect to your PC. The app should detect the IP address and name of your system.
To use your tablet or Android as an extended display, you just have to configure secondary display options in Windows. To do that go to the Control Panel and then Display Settings. Select Extend These Displays and click OK. You should now be able to use your Android as an extended display.
Spacedesk works well if you don’t want your phone to be bounded by a USB. But that’s the only complaint I have. Since it works wirelessly, there is a noticeable amount of lag. It’s good that you can switch to hotspot and USB.

Supported Medium: LAN, Wi-Fi, USB

2. Splashtop Wired XDisplay
Tumblr media
Splashtop Wired XDisplay, as the name suggests, will require you to have a USB handy. Unlike Spacedesk, WiredXDisplay allows you to connect your phone only via USB. On the plus side, since you are connected by a wired medium, you get better resolution and frame rate. It supports Full HD resolution at 60 frames per second.
Wired XDisplay can be installed on both Mac and PC, giving it an edge over Air Display. Mobile apps are available for both Android and iOS. Splashtop uses USB over WiFi for one simple reason – it offers a more responsive and real-time experience. There is no lag whatsoever and you get a battery saver mode which drops the frame rate and resolution to save up on processing.

Supported Medium: USB

3. Google Remote Desktop
Like Remote Desktop for Windows, it also allows you to control your PC via your Android device. You can run commands on your PC from your Android phone. Basically, everything that you can do on your desktop can be done from the Android phone as well. Remote Desktop, like all Google products, is easy to use and simple to set up. You just need to have a working Gmail account. The ability to control your PC remotely is where it shines the most though.
Google Remote Desktop works seamlessly but you cannot use separate apps on both the screen. It doesn’t let you use your phone as an extended display.

Supported Medium: Internet

4. iDisplay
iDisplay is another display mirroring app on this list. iDisplay started with the macOS and iOS but quickly expanded to other Operating systems. You have apps for Windows and Android which makes it a good cross-platform solution. It supports 60 fps and plus offers multi-touch on the device you are using it on.
iDisplay has everything that the other app offers, with one caveat; USB support is not available for Android yet. It does support WiFi though and comes with multi-touch support.
Supported Medium: LAN, Wi-Fi, USB (except Android)
Download iDisplay ($18)
5. Air Display 2
Mac Os For Android Tablet Emulator
Air Display 2 works the same way for Mac the way Spacedesk does for Windows PC but it comes with a price of 14.99$. It turns your Android device into a secondary screen for your Macbooks. You can extend mirroring the screen to up to 4 secondary devices. On top of that, it also supports full HD displays.
It supports all the way back to Mac OS X 10.8 or Lion. You can also use your PC as a secondary screen for your Mac. But it doesn’t work the other way round like you cannot use Mac or any mobile device as a secondary screen for Windows. I read the FAQs section and it says they are working on a solution, but it also says that they are not “close enough” to provide an ETA.
On the plus side, it offers a more responsive experience thanks to the dynamic compression algorithm the team is using. It also supports retina display, something that is missing in Spacedesk. App also features Air Stylus which you can actually use the secondary device to draw designs on directly.
Mac Os For Android Tablet Download
Air Display works seamlessly but the issue is the pricing model. With every major upgrade Avatron Software i.e. the creator of Air Display increases the price. This is something which bothers long-time users like me but hey if money is not a problem then you are good to go. Another thing that bugs me is that you need to install Air Display Host on your iPhones, Androids, and PCs which you want to use as a secondary screen. But, Air Display can only be installed on Macs. So the cross-platform compatibility gets a little limited.
Download Air Display ($14.99)
6. Duet Display
Duet Display is a popular iOS app that allows you to mirror and extend your Mac’s display to your iPad or iPhone. And now that Apple is providing this feature natively via Sidecar, Duet Display is expanding its horizons with support for Android smartphones and tablets.
Also Read: Duet Display vs Sidecar: Is It Still Worth Paying for Duet Display?
Duet Display invited us to beta test their new app, and it worked fine on my Google Pixel and Windows 10. Although, I did encounter a few bugs such as connection breaks. Also, while you can connect your Android Smartphone wirelessly to a Windows computer, you still need to attach a USB cable if you want to use the Android app with macOS.
The app is competitively priced at $9.99 and offers a lot of features and supports a wide range of devices. You can get the app for both Android and iOS devices.
Download Duet Display ($9.99)
Use your Android Tablet as Monitor
These were some of the most efficient ways to create an extended display from your Android smartphones and tablets. Let me know how’s your experience with these apps and which one you ended up using for your devices.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ Review
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ is the most capable Android productivity tablet on the market. In addition to being the first to support 5G connectivity, it's also a performance powerhouse that can handle multitasking with ease. Though its starting price of $849—which doesn't include 5G capability or the carrier subscription to use it, nor the Book Cover Keyboard Case—looks steep, it's one of the few viable laptop alternatives on the market, especially if you often commute or travel and don't want to bother with a hotspot. With impressive features, incredible performance, and all-day battery life, it's the  best Android tablet  you can buy right now, and wins our Editors' Choice award.
A Beautiful, Stylus-Compatible Display
Aesthetically, little separates the Galaxy Tab S7+ from other hight end slates like the iPad Pro. The chassis and back of the Galaxy Tab S7+ are constructed of aluminum and available in black, silver, or bronze. It measures 11.25 by 7.3 by 0.2 inches (HWD) and weighs 1.3 pounds without the optional Book Cover Keyboard Case. That may sound heavy, but the weight is well-distributed, making it easy to hold for long periods. A slim camera stack and a magnetic connector for the S Pen are on the upper left corner. A word of warning: the connector for the S Pen is not as well placed or as powerful as what you'll find on the iPad Pro, making it easy to lose.
The front is dominated by a 12.4-inch, 2,800-by-1,752-pixel Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate. Color accuracy is spot-on, with vivid colors and inky, deep blacks. The screen is bright enough to use in direct sunlight without any problems.
Top-Notch Hardware and a Marathon Battery
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset powers the Tab S7+. Samsung offers the tablet in 128GB/6GB, 256GB/8GB, and 512GB/8GB storage/RAM configurations. Our review unit is the 256GB/8GB version. All three support up to an additional 1TB of external storage with a microSD card.
As expected, the Tab S7+ can chew through just about any task you throw its way. We tested it with over a dozen apps and three dozen Chrome windows open and it didn't even flinch.
The powerful Snapdragon 865 chipset on the tablet, combined with its 120Hz display makes gaming an immersive and seamless experience. We tested the tablet with Asphalt 9: Legends and PUBG Mobile and didn't encounter a single hiccup. Load times are lightning fast, and the 120Hz display means you'll never see any lag or dropped frames.
Benchmarks underscored our experience. On Geekbench 5, a suite of tests that quantify raw computing power, the Tab S7+ earned 994 single-core (SC) and 3,814 multi-core (MC) scores. That is, by far, the best score we've seen for an Android tablet sold in the US, but still falls behind the iPad Pro's 1,113 (SC) and 3,277 (MC) scores on the same tests.
Samsung packed a 10,090mAh battery in the Tab S7+ (much bigger than the Tab S7's 8,000mAh battery), which can easily carry you through through the workday with a little battery life to spare. In our battery test, which streams HD video over Wi-FI at full brightness, the Tab S7+ held on for 7 hours and 21 minutes before powering down. That's about the same as the iPad Pro (7 hours, 48 minutes), and with more conservative use you should easily be able to make it a full day between charges.
45W fast charging is with an optional power adapter. If you choose to stick with the 15W adapter that comes in the box, be prepared to let it charge overnight.
A Selfie Camera Made for Video Calls
A 13MP primary lens with an f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP ultra-wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture comprise the Tab S7+'s rear camera module. There's an 8MP sensor on the front of the tablet with an f/2.0 aperture.
With good light, the dual camera stack performs well. The 13MP lens takes an excellent shot with good depth of field and solid color accuracy. The ultra-wide lens performs nearly as well, though we did note some minor loss of fine detail.
In low light, the rear cameras do an adequate job. Our low-light test shots had some edge noise along with lens flares, but they were still good by tablet standards. That said, we doubt many people will use the tablet to grab unplanned photos when most flagship phones perform better and are easier to whip out over the dinner table.
The 8MP selfie camera is perfect for video calls no matter the time of day. It also takes a good selfie, though some of our low-light test shots appeared a little flat, with minor noise around the edges.
Immersive Audio
Samsung sells the Tab S7 in 5G and Wi-Fi versions. The base model ships with Wi-Fi 6 support. The 5G model works with every US carrier and has supports sub-6GHz and mmWave connectivity, though you'll need to pay for monthly service. We tested the Tab S7+ on a gigabit Wi-Fi network and recorded excellent results, with averages of 631.4Mbps down and 38.8Mbps up.
The four AKG-tuned speakers on the Tab S7+ are among the best we've heard on a tablet. With a maximum volume of 96dB,audio is loud enough for conference calls, and it actually sounds good when you're watching videos. There's also Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity for wireless audio with the Galaxy Buds Live or your favorite Bluetooth headphones.
S Pen Feels Great
Unlike Apple's pricey $129 Pencil, Samsung includes its S Pen in the box with the Tab S7+ Put simply, the S Pen is incredible. It comes in the box and charges wirelessly when connected to the back of the Galaxy Tab S7+.
Writing with the S Pen actually feels good. We didn't notice any lag when using the stylus, and latency has been reduced to 9ms from 26ms on the Tab S6 Lite. The tip of the S Pen is significantly thinner than the iPad Pro's Pencil, and offers a little bit of drag to make writing on the display feel more natural.
Air Actions, Samsung's set of S Pen gesture–initiated shortcuts first announced on the Galaxy Note 9, makes its big screen debut on the Tab S7+. Air Actions lets you use the S Pen to snap selfies, swipe through pages without touching the screen, and set up other custom shortcuts. If you're new to Air Actions, there's a bit of a learning curve, but it's pretty convenient once you get the hang of it.
A Pricey and Flimsy Keyboard
The optional Book Cover Keyboard Case ($229.99)is hit-or-miss. The actual keyboard has excellent travel and a satisfying tactile feedback. The trackpad is swift and gestures work without a hitch. The cover turns into a stand, with good range of motion, and has a magnetic compartment for storing the S Pen.
So what's not to like about the case? For starters, it's nearly impossible to use in your lap. The stand is made to rest against a solid surface. Even if you manage to find a comfortable spot for it on your lap, there's a lot of flex in the keyboard. And frankly, the Book Cover Keyboard Case looks cheap. From a distance you might mistake the case for leather, but up close it unquestionably looks and feels like low-grade vinyl. Anyone who's investing in a high-end tablet like the Tab S7+ will likely want a cover that gives the same impression of quality manufacture and design. The Book Cover Keyboard Case does not.
One UI Can't Save Android
The Galaxy Tab S7 Pro ships with Android 10 and the latest version of Samsung One UI. In the past, we've had mixed feelings about One UI, but Samsung has made some major changes that make it much more attractive. The latest iteration now supports live syncing between Samsung devices and PCs; Apple users are unfortunately out of luck.
Samsung's productivity apps have also gotten a significant facelift. Samsung Notes now offers easy PDF annotations with the S Pen. A handy feature that allows you to sync voice recordings with your written notes is relatively easy to use. There's also the option to sync your notes with Microsoft Outlook and OneNote, but you can easily download Microsoft 365 to the S7+ and skip syncing altogether.
Folder and file structure have been significantly improved, so it's easier to find documents if you prefer to store them directly on your tablet. There's also the option to sync your documents with Microsoft OneDrive.
One UI also improves multi-tasking on the Tab S7+. You can now have three windows open simultaneously. Multi-Active Window, a persistent tab that rests on the side of the screen, now supports app groups, so you can create quick shortcuts to open your three most-used apps simultaneously.
Over the past year, Samsung has made some massive improvements to DeX (desktop-mimicking) mode. It's more intuitive than older versions, supports multi-touch gestures, and even connects wirelessly to compatible televisions and monitors. We wouldn't go so far as to say it can replace your desktop, but it's an excellent alternative for basic tasks.
To be honest, Samsung's One UI corrects many of the ills that hamstring Android tablets, but at the end of the day, you're still running Android apps. That means there are limited options, especially for those in creative fields, and some apps just aren't up to snuff. If you're not a fan of the iPad Pro, there are plenty of Windows 2-in-1 laptops that run full fledged versions of Adobe Creative Cloud and similar apps.
There's also the issue of updates. Samsung has committed to updating its new products "for three generations," but that's a rather ambiguous claim and it doesn't set a specific timeline for updates. Android manufacturers, for the most part, have been slow with OS upgrades, and we doubt the Tab S7+ will be an exception. Though Samsung is already upgrading some of its devices, it doesn't look like the Tab S7+ will get an Android 11 upgrade until 2021.
The Best Alternative to an iPad Pro
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ is the most capable Android productivity tablet on the market. In addition to being the first to support 5G connectivity, it's also a performance powerhouse that can handle multitasking with ease. The S Pen is a pleasure to use, and the Samsung One UI actually feels like it adds to the overall experience.
What keeps the Tab S7+ from meeting its full potential is its OS. No matter how many tweaks Samsung makes to One UI, it still runs on Android and simply doesn't offer the same seamless experience you'll find on the iPad Pro. And although the optional Book Cover Keyboard Case works well on a desk, its steep price and lackluster build quality are a disappointment.
Despite these nitpicks, we still think the Tab S7+ is an extremely impressive piece of hardware. Once you're able to travel again, you'll find it by far the best Android tablet for taking work on the road and having a laptop-like experience supplemented by an outstanding stylus. It's an Editors' Choice through and through.

Tips for getting a webcam
Good quality and quality
Although the resolution is not really everything, it can do permit us to have got a crystal clear concept of the high quality that your camera sensing unit will offer, which is the reason it will always be a decisive aspect in the purchase of your web camera.
Your requirements will be based largely about how you can expect to make use of your webcam. If you're utilizing it for Skype or streaming live video clip from your Twitch or You tube activity session, 720p or 1080p HD quality should be adequate.
This is certainly mainly because the majority of video clip applications, from Streamlabs OBS to Skype, support a maximum of 1080p, therefore we cannot believe that this will likely change in the short term. You'll want a pretty strong Connection to the internet.
In truth, there is not any real must purchase a 4K webcam currently unless you are planning to history indoor video clip rather than streaming or communicating. In that case, a 4K web camera could supply you with the good quality you're looking for.
Mic and seem
A built-in microphone is very helpful when making movie telephone calls, because it eliminates the need for earphones and provides a far more natural expertise.
However, these mics supply just the right high quality, so if you would like transmit a game or reply to an occasion, we recommend using a committed external mic.
Streamers tend to use committed mics or headsets with built-in mics, since they generally give much clearer and crisper sound. A lot of have lively sound cancellation to reduce the noise of the secrets.
More features
Its not all webcams are made much the same way, and several may offer advanced features that can established them besides the group. From appearance modification features, to backdrop removal, and with regards to the Razer Kiyo, a built in engagement ring lighting to deliver even lighting.
It is worthwhile to inspect the features for each, particularly in the matter of track record removal, the final results can be quite unpredictable dependant upon the quantity of light-weight and also other environmental elements.
Compatibility
One more characteristic to consider is compatibility. On the whole conditions, all webcams should work together with Skype, Search engines Hangouts, XSplit Gamecaster, OBS and a lot more, but some supply certain assistance for several applications.
Although it depends on the webcam as well as the program you make use of, buying a appropriate web camera may give entry to more technical configurations boasting. Large video clip programs offer you connect-ins to improve the grade of some types.
This is actually the situation of Logitech's Brio Super HD Master Webcam, a model that provides adjustable discipline of see and provides company certification with applications such as Microsoft Teams, BlueJeans, Broadsoft, Fuze, Lifesize Cloud, Vidyo and Zoom.

Sony TVs 2020 lineup at CES 2020 Review
Tumblr media
As usual, the January CES in Las Vegas gathered a large number of experts. Traditionally, high-tech TVs have been the focus of attention. This year AI 8K upscaling in the Samsung Q950TS 8K and LG 8K TVs, bezel-less Infinity Design of Q950TS with a screen-to-body ratio of nearly 99% and super-thin LG Wallpaper series with a thickness under 4mm, improved game modes, sound control technologies, and adaptive options became the major innovative directions. Of course, Sony also did not stand aside, introducing the new 8K LCD Z8H and 4K OLED A8H Master Series models. As known, last year the company introduced the Master Series Z9G 8K, including 85-inch Sony XBR-85Z9G (KD-85ZG9) worth about $ 13,000 and the huge 98-inch XBR-98Z9G (KD-98ZG9) with a astronomical price of $ 70,000. However, today the cost of the Sony XBR-85Z9G has dropped to $ 10,000. In these models, the company used the new improved X1 Ultimate Proccesor together with the new 8K X-Reality PRO software technology.
Tumblr media
High 8K upscaling efficiency allowed the company to use them in new models of this year. As known, Sony upscaling algorithms use dual database processing. The first database recognizes compression noise, compares it with the reference image and eliminates artifacts. The second database increases resolution based on reference images.
Tumblr media
Design
8K LCD Z8H with an elegant silver rim looks very stylish.
Tumblr media
The company named this unusual design an Immersive Edge concept. According to the designers, this design increases the immersion level and at the same time expand the functionality of the stand. The name emphasizes the idea of enhancing immersion through an edge-oriented aesthetic. The minimalistic design with an ultra-narrow frame and an almost imperceptible stand minimize the visualization of the TV when watching. Together with Sound-from-Picture Reality, these two factors significantly raise the level of immersion. As known, the company originally developed Acoustic Surface Audio for OLED models. Then based on it, Sony implemented Acoustic Multi-Audio in the ZG9 series. The technology uses four front-facing speakers, including two below the screen and two above it. This scheme effectively forms a surround sound. The company called this effect Sound-from-Picture Reality. The adjustable legs radically simplified the installation of the TV. They can move from the edges of the screen to the center.
Tumblr media
Moreover, the legs can rotate 90 degrees, providing a low-profile installation with virtually no clearance.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, the main competitors do not offer a similar option. The 4K OLED A8H uses the One Slate design. It also has legs with adjustable height.
Tumblr media
The choice of leg height varies up to 5-7 cm. This adjustment is very convenient, for example, when installing a TV in conjunction with a sound bar.
Ambient Optimization
The Sony Ambient Optimization feature fits perfectly into the overall trend of increasing the adaptability level of modern TVs. The company introduced it as “a new technology that optimises picture and sound quality in any customer environment.” For this purpose, the Samsung Q950TS 8K uses the Adaptive Picture function, and LG - new Dolby Vision IQ. The Ambient Optimization function automatically optimizes image parameters depending on the ambient light conditions.
Tumblr media
Of course, the work of Ambient Optimization is much more complicated than simply brightness increasing or decreasing in a dark or light room. In fact, it provides automatic adjustment of color gamma in the local areas of the screen. For example, for a bright room, the TV increases the brightness of the details in the shadows to improve their visibility. But at the same time, it does not change the brightness in bright areas of the frame to prevent glare. Moreover, the system increases the saturation of colors to eliminate the matting effect due to ambient light. Theoretically, Ambient Optimization will be especially effective for the HDR format. Moreover, this technology detects surrounding objects, including curtains or furniture, and calibrates the acoustics settings to compensate for their effects on the propagation of sound waves.
X-Motion Clarity technology, Frame Tweeter and other
As known, modern TVs use the BFI function (Black Frame Insertion), which briefly turns off the backlight. Visually, this process is equivalent to a twofold increase in frame rate, which reduces blur in highly dynamic scenes. Unfortunately, BFI simultaneously reduces brightness. To solve this problem, Sony developed X-Motion Clarity technology, which replaced the previous Motionflow XR. In fact, X-Motion Clarity controls the transitions between frames, providing consistent brightness at high clarity and smoothness. Initially, X-Motion Clarity Technology was developed for LCD televisions with FALD (full array local dimming). Today, the company has successfully adapted this technology for OLED models. The Z8H series uses innovative Frame Tweeter technology, which transfers sound vibrations to the TV frame, turning it into a sound source.
Tumblr media
In addition, new TVs support Netflix Calibrated Mode, IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Atmos and Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ with a subwoofer behind the screen and two actuators to vibrate the display.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, unlike the Sony 8K Z8H, the A8H does not have HDMI 2.1.
Key Features

In addition, the company expanded last year’s super-popular A9G series with the addition of a 48-inch XBR-48A9G. As known, LG this year also offered a 48-inch LG OLED48CXPUA. Apparently, the main manufacturers of OLED TVs are planning to expand their lineup with low-cost models with a relatively small screen. Of course, many consumers will welcome the new offer.
Conclusion
Once again, the company fully met the expectations of Sony fans. In fact, the Sony 2020 lineup contains a complete list of current TVs, including LCD and OLED models with 4K and 8K resolution. In addition, the company demonstrated its commitment to the innovation trend by introducing new Ambient Optimization mode, X-Motion Clarity for OLED, and promising Frame Tweeter technology. Of course, Samsung, LG and other leaders in this segment also presented a large number of interesting innovative models. But the results of their competition will depend on the pricing policy of companies, which will be determined in the next few months. Video demonstrates Sony BRAVIA Z8H series at CES 2020. Gaming Phones Are Great – But Do You Need One?
Tumblr media
It feels like it’s been years since we saw a mobile phone handset hit the market that looked dramatically different from its competitors. Ever since Apple came up with the basic shape of the iPhone years ago, manufacturers have been in agreement that the brick-shaped touchscreen design is what consumers want and need. Since then, aside from the manufacturer’s logo and the operating software, mobile phones have largely been interchangeable. That’s why it’s such a delight to see an innovative device like the Black Shark 2 Pro phone, which looks like nothing else on the market. It has a striking appearance, but it markets itself as a gaming phone. What is a gaming phone, though, and do you need one?
If you engage with games on your phone the same way the majority of people do, the answer is ‘probably not.’ As far as you’re concerned, your phone has access to an app store that allows you to download any game you wish, and you can play them hassle-free as much as you like. You might occasionally encounter performance issues if your phone is low on memory or space or is getting a little old, but most of the time, everything works exactly as it should. The Black Shark 2 isn’t aimed at the average user, though. It’s aimed at the hardcore gamer.
Tumblr media
As impressive as most modern phones are, they weren’t designed for the purpose of hosting or running complicated games, and nor are most mobile games designed to place heavy demands on a phone’s hardware or software. You only need to look at online slots websites like Amigo Slots to confirm that. By a long-distance, online slots are the most popular types of games played on mobile phones, and yet they generally don’t involve downloading any content at all. So long as a player has an internet connection and a touch screen, they can play the majority of mobile slots easily, even if their phone is a decade old. Designers of non-gambling related mobile games take note of this and design their own software accordingly. If the games all run smoothly, then what problem is the Black Shark 2 attempting to fix?
Google Stadia might raise its hand if we asked it that question directly, and Apple Arcade might follow suit, too. The fact of the matter is that mobile gaming is changing, and what’s required of a phone is going to change along with it. The creation of the new Apple and Google gaming devices means that phones are now just as viable as television screens when it comes to finding something to play a game on, and so phones are going from handling something as basic as Candy Crush to trying to process something as complex and demanding as the latest Fortnite or Call of Duty game. With an average device, lag becomes an issue, and lag is unacceptable to hardcore gamers. That’s the niche in the market that the Black Shark 2 hopes to fill.
Tumblr media
The concept of a gaming phone isn’t new. 2017 saw the launch of the Razer Phone, a gaming-orientated device that came with a high refresh rate and a processor that wouldn’t have been out of place in a PlayStation or an Xbox. It didn’t catch on as an idea, but as a piece of equipment, it showed what was possible. The design of the Razer influenced the 7 Pro and the Google Pixel 4 when it came to screen design and refresh rate, and may even have influenced the creation of the new 120Hz displays that have become a favorite of Samsung.
The Black Shark hopes to eclipse the competition with a further step up in gaming-friendly technology, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 plus processor to speed things along. That will mean that graphics run 15% faster on the new phone than on anything else on the market, and a CPU speed of up to 2.96HGz becomes possible. The idea of having a fan inside the machine to keep the processor cool is being thrown out as an old hat, too – instead, the phone comes equipped with a liquid cooling system designed to keep the device at peak performance at all times. Most of us are used to the feeling of our phones running hot when we’re asking for a lot from them in terms of performance. Black Shark 2 Pro owners should never encounter that sensation, even after hours of gameplay.
There are a few more features to the phone that are also worthy of mention. As an example, the sensitivity of the touch screen can be adjusted from one game to the next, and can even be made lighter on one side of the screen than it is on another. A Sharkspace slider button enables a ‘gaming mode’ on your phone that works like a gaming-optimized airplane mode, ensuring you never get interrupted mid-game, and background processes are kept to an absolute minimum. Factor in the fact that it comes with a case that effectively turns it into a gaming controller with a screen, and you have a powerful proposition for gaming-orientated phone owners.
Tumblr media
The one thing we don’t know about the phone yet is when it will be available in the USA or Europe. News of the phone was first announced in July 2019 with a suggestion that it would be available to buy in time for Christmas, but it didn’t materialize. Now, aside from assuring interested parties that it will definitely be launching at some point in 2020, manufacturers Xiaomi is unable to give a precise launch date. They can, however, give us some indication of the price. A brand new Black Shark 2 Pro comes with a recommended retail price of $599 for a basic model, with tweaked models available for higher rates. When compared to the cost of a brand new iPhone, the price seems reasonable.
The Black Shark 2 Pro appears to have all the right attributes to make it a success. It’s fast, it’s good-looking, it packs some serious power, and it’s cheaper than the vast majority of modern top-end smartphones. The only question is whether there’s a large enough market to support it, or whether it will meet with the same tepid reaction that greeted the Razer Phone when that hit the market three years ago. Are there enough phone-centric gamers to reward Xiaomi for their efforts? We don’t know, but we’re about to find out.

Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 2017
Tumblr media
It’s not the first time we’ve seen the Nintendo Switch, but the original reveal did not give us too much info. Now we finally get more information about the console thanks to the Nintendo Switch Event. Here’s the main details you’re probably chasing:
Release
The Nintendo Switch will launch on March 3rd, 2017 in Japan, US, Canada, some of Europe and other territories, which includes Australia. That’s only about 7 weeks away.
The price will be $299.99USD/$469.95AUD. While it is probably worth it from a technical point of view of what it can do, that price range def takes it out of the impulse buy price range. I bought a Wii U about a year or so ago with Super Mario Maker for $300AUD on special. I played Super Mario Maker a few times and then the Wii U gathered dust ever since. I really like the Switch’s portability, but I don’t travel enough to get the most out of this feature, so not being a huge Nintendo combined with my buyers remorse (other that continuing my console collection) with the Wii U, makes me think I won’t be grabbing one of these on launch. I probably won’t consider it until there’s a significant price drop. I mean you can get the much more powerful PS4 or Xbox One S for about $100 AUD cheaper, so it’s not very competitive on price.
There’s two Switch packages you can get. The only difference being the colours of the joy-con controllers. The Joy-Con controllers come in 3 colours currently, grey, neon red and neon blue. One Switch package comes with two grey controllers, while the other package comes with one blue and one red controller. I’d be definitely picking the grey controller package. I may be bias as grey is my favourite colour these days, however I just think it looks awkward, having one red and one blue controller connected to Switch.
Tumblr media
Other than the 2 joy-con controllers, the other items you get in the box include the Switch tablet console itself and the dock for connecting to a TV. The Joy-Con Grip that holds your two joy-cons together for a more traditional controller experience. Two wrist straps that connect to the Joy-Con that make them easier to hold and stop them flying across the room. Plus of course a HDMI cable and AC adapter.
Specific accessory pricing includes:
Switch Pro Control (available in grey) - $69.99USD/$99.95AUD
Pack of 2 Joy-Con Controllers (available in grey, neon red, neon blue or neon red/blue combos) - $79.99USD/$119.95AUD
1 Joy-Con Controller (available in grey) - $49.99USD/$69.95AUD
Joy-Con charging grip - $29.99USD/$39.95AUD
Switch Dock set (including dock, ac adapter and HDMI cable) - $89.99USD/$129.95AUD
Joy-Con Wheel (set of 2) - $14.99USD/$24.95
If you combine the prices of all the components that you get in the box together equals $199.97USD/$289.85AUD, which means you’re paying about $100USD/$80AUD for the actual Switch console tablet. That probably sounds like a good deal when put like that. Either that or it shows that the accessories are quite expensive. I’d hate to be a parent with one of this in the house, having the buy multiple docks, fighting over who gets to use it, constantly dropping big dollars to replace easy to lose controllers etc.
Specs
Tumblr media
There are 3 modes to the Switch. TV Mode whereby you put the Switch into the dock and play on the TV. Tabletop mode, where you utilise the Switches kickstand to have it stand up independently and use the Joy-Cons detached from the console. And of course handheld mode, where you have the Joy-Cons attached and can use it like a portable tablet gaming machine. In Handheld mode it will get 2.5hrs – 6.5hrs of battery life dependent on the game (Zelda will get about 3hrs battery life). This seems reasonable. Should mean people can play triple A titles on the train or bus to work or extended long gaming sessions playing simple indie or retro Nintendo titles without running out of battery. You can also play it while charged it via a USB-C cable.
Other specs include no region locking which makes sense for a console they are promoting to use on the plane. It has a multi touch display, 6.2” display that runs as I predicted at 720p. So smaller than an iPad mini but at the largest spectrum of a smart phone screen size. The same size screen as the Wii U tablet but higher resolution. When docked it will run in 1080p. There’s 32GB of internal storage which is pretty disappointing but can be expanded by a micro SD card. Up to 8 Switches can connect together for multiplayer.
The Switch will of course support digital download games, but also has “Game Cards” for physical games, not too dissimilar to the 3DS. The dock has 3x USB 2 ports plus of course a HDMI and AC adapter ports.
There’s been no mention of the actual performance of the machine. Some of the graphics was looking a bit rough in places, so don’t expect it to in any way compete with the Xbox One or PS4 in the graphics department.
Controllers
Tumblr media
The main controllers as mentioned at the Joy-Cons. Think of them as smaller Wii remotes. They attach to the sides of the Switch in portable mode but can also be used separately. They have NFC and support Amiibos.  The left controller has a screenshot button that will later support video. It has an accelerometer, and IR motion camera sensors, which of course open up much more potential as to what you can do with them. It also has an advanced “HD” rumble feature built into the Joy-Cons that supposedly helps you feel things (the example they showed was ice being put into a glass).
Being so small you wouldn’t expect many controls but it amazingly includes on each controller a joy stick, plus or minus button, left or right button, d-pad or A/B/X/Y buttons, ZL or ZR button, release button, SL button and SR button. I think the fear at first was the Joy-Con might be quite limiting, but this has clearly been designed so you should be able to play just about any game with even only one Joy-Con controller.
The wrist straps when connected a Joy-Con help beef up it’s physical size including likely making the SL and SR buttons easier to use.
For when you want a more traditional controller setup you can plug the Joy-Cons into the grip and it will also charge the Joy-Cons. If you want even more advanced controls, then there is also the Switch Pro Controller, similar to what was available for the Wii U.
Online
For the first time, Nintendo’s online services will now cost you money to use (like Xbox and Playstation). There will be an initial free trial and then it’s time to pay up if you want to continue. This also could get costly for parents. Though there is one bonus. Each month you will get to play a NES or SNES classic game for free. With Playstation Plus and Xbox Gold you get multiple free games per month and you can play them as long as you are subscribed, and even when you resubscribe. That doesn’t look to be the case here, so price will be critical to not seem like poor value compared to the alternatives. Smartphones will also be able to connect to it’s online service for chat and arranging online games.
Games
This is great and all but it doesn’t matter if there isn’t a big selection of games to support it. This was the major problem with the Wii U. It wasn’t overly apparent during the presentation what the full launch line up was but Nintendo assures us  that there’s currently over 50 devs working on over 80 games for the Switch. Here’s some of those games:
youtube
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, after much speculation, is a Switch launch title.
youtube
1-2-Switch is a series of mini games that make use of the joy-cons. It is primarily a game that you don’t watch the screen while playing. It’s a launch title and could be the Switch’s equivalent to Wii Sports.
youtube
A boxing style game called Arms is also making much use of the joy-cons. Each player needs two joy-cons each, one for each hand. You play split screen in TV mode, or use two switches to battle, or online. Released in Spring (US) 2017.
youtube
Super Mario Odyssey is the first large sandbox Mario game since Sunshine. There’s parts based in like New York with regular size people, which is just bizarre. Mario’s hat being thrown is a major game mechanic. Out end of 2017.
youtube
Project Octopath Traveler from Square Enix looks like pixel art paper Mario/final fantasy style game. No release date as of yet.
Other upcoming titles include FIFA, Ultra Street Fighter 2, Skyrim, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Has Been Heroes, Just Dance 2017, Snipperclips, Super Bomberman R, Arcade Archives, Disgaea 5 Complete, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Farming Simulator, Fast RMX, Fire Emblem Warriors, Minecraft, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Rayman Legends, Rime, Skylanders Imaginators, Syberia 3, Steep, Sonic Mania, NBA 2K18, Lego City Undercover, I am Setsuna, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and more.
So there you have it. Pre-orders are now open and going by how hard it’s been to get a NES Classic mini, it could be hard getting a Switch at launch. That shouldn’t be a problem for me, because at that price, I’m just not big enough a fan, or trust Nintendo’s game support to wanna jump in straight away. With the expensive price of the console and accessories, plus a lack of launch titles, it’s just not competitive at a time when Nintendo really needs to be. Perhaps by Christmas with a big price drop and a larger library it might be worth it. I also a bit disappointed with it as Nintendo weren’t touting the Switch as a successor to the Wii U, yet Wii U games aren’t backwards compatible with it.
The presentation overall had it’s highs and lows, and some seriously awkward moments, and somewhat underwhelming unless you’re a Nintendo fanatic. Still I commend Nintendo for a great design and it will be interesting to try it out sometime. Because I would like a portable hybrid console like this some day. It does feel like the future.
