XC KLR Trip
Day 6, rained hard with wind,thunder, & lightning for about 2 hours before sunrise. Then quit Just a bit wet, no problems. Had an apple and granola bar, drank water. Packed up and left. Short 3 hour ride to Medicine Lodge KS. In the rain for 2/3 of the time. Windy too! They live about 3 miles back on Kansas dirt roads. When wet they were slick, although sand content helped eliminate  stickage to the tires. So I was able to ride back to their house with only 1 tip over=3. Family returning from church helped me lift the bike.  No further mishaps.  Uncle Denny was standing outside because  he thought a helicopter was around, but it was me. KLR has an unpacked Supertrap "muffler ". They were astounded. Hosed myself off out front, including the socks and sandals I have been riding in since Arkansas, 3 days ago. Said our hello' s then promptly took a shower, then was fed chicken casserole famous in our family.  Borrowed clothing my entire visit, while I rearainged EVERYTHING. AHH to be pampered, fed, and entertained, what a luxury. They invited me to stay and join their family gathering there over the 4th, about 20 of my cousins and families. The weather was forecasted to be around 100 highs for the next 5 days then still hot, but rainy aftetwards. Steak and Baked potato, corn,rolls for dinner. Bundt cake before bed. Day 7, OFF BIKE, Rained hard overnight. Coffee, Sausage, and Pancakes for brkfst.Afterwards repaired my boots. Cleaned everything real well with acetone, then used a combination of GOOP and 6000 adhesives. All fits well ,let dry until tomorrow. Off to Pratt, KS, to buy lumber for picnic table leg extensions. Also need straps for baggage support. Found one of the sidebag brackets had broken. Turns out their neighbor has a weld shop and kindly repairs it. I make a 2x4 the width of the bike + bags as an upper support, needing staps to pull upward releaving some weight.Pictures are in order. All the rain has the lake up 18". Their dock was sunk on one side. Need tools. Off to Pratt in the F1500. Ginney dropped at Grocery, Denny & I off to lumber yard. Lunch at Pratt, great Mexican food. Back home fix table legs, but not dock. Try to fish from neighbors dock, but snag a tree and lose tackle. No fish. Pork chops, mashed potato/gravy, fresh green beans, for dinner. Drank iced tea. Bundy cake later foe desert. Off to bed. Day 8, OFF BIKE, beautiful out. Went fishing after brkfst of coffee, scrambled eggs, bacon , English muffins. Hooked  a few, but few landings. Back for lunch, leftover smorgasbord.  Naps afterward. Finish up boots, continue rearainging stuff on bike. Tighten shifter lever. Lube and adjust chain. Overall check, Czech. Getting better organization. Dinner of hamburgers, brats, baked beans, and homemade potatoes chips. Out fishing after dinner. Caught a channel cat, 1 smallmouth, and 4 crappie. Thru them all back. Bikes packed ready to leave tomorrow for Colorado, Day 9, up to sausage gravy and biscuits. Sausage patties and coffee and Orange juice. Why am I leaving? Suit up and on may way again. They dis a lot of roadworks the past 2 days, and they were dry. Easy out. Follow rt 160 west all day. Thru the Comanche National Grasslands. Wide open spaces, 101 degrees with blustery sidewinds. Gas cap vent not releasing pressure , Needs attention. Creating rich condition. Managed pressure Managed to get around 500 miles in and ended at Ft Garland Colorado. I've reached the mountains!.Was scoping out camp possibility, and Got some recommendations from a local. Beautiful night,  full moon, mountains all around. I did see a major fire about 15 miles from here. Quite an attraction. Good camp, no bugs, cool out, legal... Stroganoff for dinner, no lunch. Never got off the bike all day.  2141 miles total. TAT no mo. I've been winging it for the most part. Looking for the best opportunity. Quite fun On a side note, I'm now keeping all my riding gear in the tent with me. After watching the Kansas News and seeing baseball sized hail ?  If I'm as unfortunate in a tent, seems the helmet could be needed. .

Healthy Tips to Reduce Calories and Still Enjoy Your Meals

If you would like to drop weight, making some tiny changes in how you consume will bring you big results. Much of the way we consume is from habit. If we strive to become more aware of what and how much we're eating, we could cut down considerably on the amount of fat and sugar in our diet. 
You see, many times we add sugar and fats into our meals entirely out of habit. I have watched people salt their meals before they even taste it. The remarkable thing is that making some rather small but practical adjustments to your eating habits can remove many hidden calories. 
I have outlined some healthy suggestions which can deceive your mind and your tummy. You will drop pounds without even feeling as if you're dieting. 
Breakfast 
1. Pour fat-free, soy-milk or rice-milk in your cereal rather than whole milk. 
2. Skip the donuts or sweet rolls and have a fruit salad, bowl of melon, banana or berries with low-fat milk. Sprinkle with flaxseed to get some healthy Omega-3 fatty acids. 
3. Use cooking spray when cooking eggs rather than oiling the pan. 
4. Choose nonstick pans rather than oil, too. 
5. Liven up your coffee with cinnamon or nutmeg instead of sugary syrup. 
6. Substitute Canadian bacon for regular sausage or bacon.
7. Make omelets healthier and lower in calories by substituting 4 egg whites for two whole eggs. 
8. Omit or cut in half of the butter you normally use on bread and bread. 
9. Pick all fruit jam over sugary jelly. 
10. Utilize a skillet cream cheese as spread for bagels, toast and English muffins. 
Lunch 
1. Add lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles to your sandwich or hamburger. This can help to add veggies to each meal and you may omit the cheese or utilize a half piece of low fat cheese instead. 
2. Choose fat-free mayonnaise and skillet or moderate Ranch dressing. 
3. Have a grilled veggie sandwich at a pita instead of a meat sandwich.
4. Substitute regular butter for skillet spray. 
5. Create your own pizza and use less cheese.
6. Substitute fat-free sour cream in recipes that are regular. 
7. Trim all fat from cuts of beef, pork and poultry.
8. Bake, broil or grill your meat as opposed to frying. 
9. Pick a homemade tuna fish (water packed variety) sandwich regular bread over a hamburger and fries or massive deli type sandwich. 
10. Remove skin before you eat your cooked chicken. 
Dinner
1. Try to eat at exactly the exact same time daily, or nearest to it. Keeping a regular program maintains your sugar levels and keeps you from overeating or becoming hungry between meals. 
2. Add onions and celery to all soups to include taste and volume. 
3. Eat an apple before meals to include fiber, vitamins and to help satisfy your appetite. 
4. Drink water or unsweetened tea with your foods. Add a lemon slice and an orange slice rather than sugar. 
5. Prepare your own salad dressing with two parts balsamic vinegar and one part extra virgin olive oil. 
6. Reduce the amount of cheese in casseroles. 
7. Serve vegetable appetizers in addition to meat and cheese. 
8. Omit or cut in half of the butter you use to cook with. 
9. Savor and enjoy your food. Eat slowly for proper digestion and to help you become fulfilled.
10 Cooking Healthy Tips For the Diabetics
Possessing the diabetics in our family can give us plenty of stress when attempting to cook a healthy food for them, and the diabetics will need to consume healthy food in order to not increase the sugar level in the urine.Its not good to leave home famished once you're diabetic, since this will improve your probability of eating foods that aren't healthy for you. 
Try cooking your own food or eat food cooked by a relative to reduce the probability of you eating the food that is erroneously cooked. 
These are the 10 cooking healthy tips: 
Overcooking: When cooking for the diabetic, be sure to do not over cook the meals. After the food is over cooked it looses most of its nutritional value. 
Roasting: Be sure to roast their meals, it assists in promoting the reduction of the sugar content in the urine. Plantain can be roasted either with your grill or the community roaster, the local roaster is preferable as its near to be natural. 
Starchy food: Don't!! I mean never you try cooking some starchy food to the diabetic because this is one source of food which the sugar content is extremely high. Always cook foods that are low or don't have any sugar content within it. Like plantain, beans, eggs etc..
Steaming: Steaming is another method of cooking healthy for the diabetics, particularly when cooking vegetables, try as much as possible to steam your own vegetable so it will still retain its value. It is possible to allow to steam for around 3 minutes. 
Deep frying: The fermented foods don't need a lot of skillet, so when cooking for the diabetics, don't deep fry the food. You may just stir fry for around 3 minutes so that it don't fry deeply. 
Salt: Salty foods aren't great for the diabetics, you may try to avoid adding salt to taste, only a little salt will do. You can make this up by adding different spices to taste like, dried crayfish, garlic, onions, etc.. But don't add as much salt. 
Stocks: Most of the stocks on the current market, groceries and supermarkets now comprises starch, and as I have mentioned previously, starchy foods are bad for the diabetic. The majority of these stocks; such as fish stock, chicken stock, beef stocks and the rest of these contains a great deal of starch. 
Oil: Oil isn't too great for the diabetics, particularly the palm oil, groundnut oil, corn oil. If you must use oil for cooking, then use Vegetable oil only. Since this will minimize the chance of developing heart issue. 
Meat: Red meat generally isn't too great for the diabetics, consider using lean meat, white meat; such as chicken. But don ot fry or over cook them. Meats may also be dried with little salt for additives. Its great to always have something useful to consume that is prepared by you or by a really good source. 
Low fat: The diabetics don't need the so called'hidden fat' or fats which are invisible. Its best when cooking for the diabetic which you reduce fat diary foods one of the products. Its best when we use unrefined dietary fat such as seeds, avocado, fish, soy, olives etc.. 
Many canned foods at the grocery stores are refined so always stick with your unrefined foods. Cooking healthy food for your diabetic does not need much, just watch what you cook, when you eat and how you eat them.Its Important too you avoid sodas, both the sweetened ones since the majority of these sodas contains a great deal of sugar.And you'll be glad you did.

What to eat and how to prevent Breast cancer?
Some cancer risk factors, such as genetics and environment, are out of your control, but research suggest that about 70% of your lifetime risk of cancer is within your power to change, including your diet. Avoiding cigarettes, limiting alcohol, reaching a healthy weight, and getting regular exercise are all great steps for preventing cancer. Adopting a healthy diet can also play a vital role.
What you eat—and don’t eat—can have a powerful effect on your health, including your risk for cancer. While research tends to point to associations between specific foods and cancer, rather than solid cause-and-effect relationships, there are certain dietary habits that can have a major influence on your risk. For example, eating a traditional Mediterranean diet rich in fruit, vegetables, and healthy fats like olive oil can lower your risk for a variety of common cancers, including breast cancer. Conversely, a diet that includes a daily serving of processed meat increases your risk of colorectal cancer.
If you have a history of cancer in your family, making small changes to your diet and behaviors now can make a big difference to your long-term health. And if you’ve already been diagnosed with cancer, eating a nutritious diet can help support your mood and strengthen your body during this challenging time.
Ways to build your cancer-prevention diet
To lower your risk for many types of cancer—as well as other serious disease—aim to build your diet around a variety of antioxidant-rich fruit and vegetables, nuts, beans, whole grains, and healthy fats. At the same time, try to limit the amount of processed and fried foods, unhealthy fats, sugars and refined carbs you consume.
Lower your risk with antioxidants
Plant-based foods are rich in nutrients known as antioxidants that boost your immune system and help protect against cancer cells.
Diets high in fruit may lower the risk of stomach and lung cancer.
Eating vegetables containing carotenoids, such as carrots, Brussels sprouts, and squash, may reduce the risk of lung, mouth, pharynx, and larynx cancers.
Diets high in non-starchy vegetables, such as broccoli, spinach, and beans, may help protect against stomach and esophageal cancer.
Eating oranges, berries, peas, bell peppers, dark leafy greens and other foods high in vitamin C may also protect against esophageal cancer.
Foods high in lycopene, such as tomatoes, guava, and watermelon, may lower the risk of prostate cancer.
Add more fruit and veggies to your diet
Currently, most of us fall well short of the recommended daily minimum of five servings of fruit and vegetables. To add more to your diet, focus on adding “whole” foods, as close to their natural state as possible. For example, eat an unpeeled apple instead of drinking apple juice.
Breakfast: Add fresh fruit, seeds, and nuts to your whole grain, low-sugar breakfast cereal (such as oatmeal).
Lunch: Eat a salad filled with your favorite beans and peas or other combo of veggies. Add lettuce, tomato, and avocado to a whole grain sandwich. Have a side of carrots, sauerkraut, or fruit.
Snacks: Grab an apple or banana on your way out the door. Dip carrots, celery, cucumbers, jicama, and peppers in hummus. Keep trail mix made with nuts and dried fruit on hand.
Dinner: Add fresh or frozen veggies to your favorite pasta sauce or rice dish. Top a baked potato with broccoli, sautéed veggies, or salsa.
Dessert: Choose fruit instead of sugary desserts.
Fill up on fiber
Fiber, also called roughage or bulk, is found in fruit, vegetables, and whole grains and plays a key role in keeping your digestive system clean and healthy. It helps keep cancer-causing compounds moving through your digestive tract before they can create harm. Eating a diet high in fiber may help prevent colorectal cancer and other common digestive system cancers, including stomach, mouth, and pharynx.
Choose healthy fats
Eating a diet high in fat increases your risk for many types of cancer. But healthy types of fat may actually protect against cancer.
Avoid trans fat or partially hydrogenated oil found in packaged and fried foods such as cookies, crackers, cakes, muffins, pie crusts, pizza dough, French fries, fried chicken, and hard taco shells.
Limit saturated fat from red meat and dairy to no more than 10 % of your daily calories.
Add more unsaturated fats from fish, olive oil, nuts, and avocados. Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, tuna, and flaxseeds can fight inflammation and support brain and heart health.
Cut down on sugar and refined carbs
Consuming refined carbs that cause rapid spikes in blood sugar has been linked to an 88% greater risk of prostate cancer, as well as other serious health problems.
Instead of sugary soft drinks, sweetened cereals, white bread, pasta and processed foods like pizza, opt for unrefined whole grains like whole wheat or multigrain bread, brown rice, barley, quinoa, bran cereal, oatmeal, and non-starchy vegetables. It could lower your risk for colorectal and prostate cancer as well as help you reach a healthy weight.
Limit processed and red meat
Many different studies have established a link between the risk of cancer and eating processed meat such bacon, sausages, hotdogs, pepperoni, and salami. Eating about 2 oz. (50 grams) a day of processed meat increases your risk of colorectal cancer by 20%. This could be due to the nitrate preservatives or other substances used in the processing of the meat, although risk factors for cancer also increase by eating red meat, too. The safest strategy is to limit the amount of processed meat you consume and vary your diet by seeking out other protein sources, such as fish, chicken, eggs, nuts, and soy, rather than relying just on red meat.
Prepare your food in healthy ways
Choosing healthy food is not the only important factor in preventing cancer. It also matters how you prepare, store, and cook your food.
Boosting the cancer-fighting benefits of food
Here are a few tips that will help you get the most benefits from eating all those great cancer-fighting foods, such as fruit and vegetables:
Eat at least some raw fruits and vegetables as they tend to have the highest amounts of vitamins and minerals, although cooking some vegetables can make the vitamins more available for our body to use.
When cooking vegetables, steam only until tender. This preserves more of the vitamins. Overcooking vegetables removes many of the vitamins and minerals. If you do boil vegetables, use the cooking water in a soup or another dish to ensure you’re getting all the vitamins.
Wash all fruits and vegetables. Use a vegetable brush for washing. Washing does not eliminate all pesticide residue, but will reduce it.
Flavor food with immune-boosting herbs and spices. Garlic, ginger, and curry powder not only add flavor, but they add a cancer-fighting punch of valuable nutrients. Other good choices include turmeric, basil, rosemary, and coriander. Try using them in soups, salads, and casseroles.
Tips for cutting down on carcinogens
Carcinogens are cancer-causing substances found in food. They can form during the cooking or preserving process—mostly in relation to meat—and as foods starts to spoil. Examples of foods that have carcinogens are cured, dried, and preserved meats (e.g. bacon, sausage, beef jerky); burned or charred meats; smoked foods; and foods that have become moldy.
To reduce your exposure to carcinogens:
Do not cook oils on high heat. Low-heat cooking or baking (less than 240 degrees) prevents oils or fats from turning carcinogenic. Instead of deep-frying, pan-frying, and sautéing, opt for healthier methods such as baking, boiling, steaming, or broiling.
Go easy on the barbecue.  Burning or charring meats creates carcinogenic substances. If you do choose to barbecue, don’t overcook the meat and be sure to cook at the proper temperature (not too hot).
Store oils in a cool dark place in airtight containers,  as they quickly become rancid when exposed to heat, light, and air.
Avoid food that looks or smells moldy,  as it likely contains aflatoxin, a strong carcinogen most commonly found on moldy peanuts. Nuts will stay fresh longer if kept in the refrigerator or freezer.
Be careful what you put in the microwave. Use waxed paper rather than plastic wrap to cover your food in the microwave. And always use microwave-safe containers.
Move on
Sitting most of the day—in the car, at work, and at home on the couch—raises your risk of a growing list of diseases. Research from the American Cancer Society found that women who sit for six or more hours a day are 10 percent more likely to develop myeloma, ovarian, and invasive breast cancers than women who sit for less than three hours daily. The study authors recommend parking farther away from where you’re going, standing during conference calls and taking a one-to-two minute standing or walking break every hour.

Who doesn’t love a good breakfast? I know I do! Some of the best foods ever created are breakfast foods. The only problem is that traditional breakfast favorites like French toast, pancakes, bacon, and sausage can really pack in the calories. If you’re following a restricted-calorie diet, you certainly don’t want to blow a huge chunk of your allotted calories on the first meal of the day. That might leave you thinking that you have to eat a sad grapefruit or a lonely bowl of yogurt instead of a full-flavored, tasty breakfast.
Before you find yourself skipping the most important meal of the day to save the calories, read on because we have some great news: You can have your pancakes and eat them, too! To help you create delicious breakfast foods that also happen to be healthy, we created this list of 7 breakfast recipes under 300 calories. At 300 calories per recipe, each breakfast clocks in at only a fourth (or, less) of your calorie allowance for the day. How great is that!
1. 4-Ingredient Protein Pancakes
As promised, you can have pancakes for breakfast! These easy, high-protein pancakes come in at just 59 calories per serving. That leaves plenty of room to add berries or sugar-free syrup to your pancakes. You could even add a side of turkey bacon and still stay under 300 calories! You could also try our Apple Cinnamon Protein Pancakes variation to switch things up from time-to-time.
2. Blueberry French Toast Casserole
Even French toast isn’t off-limits on a restricted-calorie diet! Each half-cup serving of this Blueberry French Toast Casserole has a measly 123 calories. That makes it one of our favorite breakfast recipes under 300 calories!
3. Mediterranean Egg White Frittata
Frittatas are an excellent choice for your daily breakfast, or you can serve them for weekend brunch. They’re high in protein and the flavor possibilities are endless! This skinny frittata features veggies, oregano, and feta cheese to add a pop of Mediterranean flavor. The 161 calories per serving is also nowhere near our 300 calorie goal!
4. Strawberry Waffles
Yes, even waffles have a place on the breakfast plate if you’re counting calories! These gluten-free waffles are naturally sweetened with fruit and they come in at just over 200 calories per serving. That leaves plenty of wiggle room to add some protein powder or an egg to up the protein content. And don’t forget the light syrup!
5. Banana Walnut Overnight Oatmeal
Oatmeal is another breakfast staple that can be heavy on the calories if you aren’t careful! Our Banana Walnut Overnight Oatmeal is made with hearty oats, bananas, and walnuts. It will keep your morning on track with only 213 calories per serving!
6. Skinny Breakfast Sausage and Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Biscuits
Being able to eat sausage and a biscuit under 300 calories is sweet news to this Southern soul! The Skinny Breakfast Sausage clocks in at 85 calories per patty while the Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Biscuits are 183 calories each. That’s only 268 calories total for a homemade, Southern-style comfort breakfast!
7. Cinnamon Rolls
That’s right, you read that correctly! Cinnamon rolls made our list of breakfast recipes under 300 calories! This is truly a triumph of human ingenuity (okay, and all of our recipe creators at Skinny Ms). Each of these sweet (but healthy) beauties is 266 calories, which leaves you just enough calories left to scramble up a couple of egg whites to add extra protein. You’re welcome!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Looking for some vegan deliciousness for your feast? This amazing collection of over 80(!) vegan Thanksgiving recipes has everything you need for an amazing plant-based holiday meal.
It’s time to start planning! Every year since I started blogging I’ve put together one of these little collections of Vegan Thanksgiving recipes. Usually I slack off and post it right before the holiday.
This year I got my act together and I’m here with plenty of time to spare with all the vegan Thanksgiving deliciousness you can handle.

It’s time to start planning! Every year since I started blogging I’ve put together one of these little collections of Vegan Thanksgiving recipes. Usually I slack off and post it right before the holiday.

It’s time to start planning! Every year since I started blogging I’ve put together one of these little collections of Vegan Thanksgiving recipes. Usually I slack off and post it right before the holiday.
This year I got my act together and I’m here with plenty of time to spare with all the vegan Thanksgiving deliciousness you can handle.
