#OTD in 1916 – Approximately 1,000 copies of The Proclamation of the Irish Republic are printed in Liberty Hall in a print office set up by James Connolly.
The proclamation would be read by Pádraig Pearse outside the General Post Office on Sackville Street (now called O’Connell Street) on Monday 24th April. The proclamation was printed secretly on an old and poorly maintained Wharfedale Stop Cylinder Press in the printing office that had been set up by James Connolly in the basement in the original Liberty Hall in Beresford Place, Dublin. The O’Connell Bridge in St. Stephens Green, Dublin
You will find the city center park of St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin, Ireland, which opened to the public in 1880. This is a great little park to wander through. There are some wonderful sculptures of some very notable Irish artists, such as Yeats, Joyce and Emmet. “The Three Fates” bronze, designed by Joseph Wackerle is the sculpture I have posted here. (The simple reason I posted this sculpture photo among the many others, was that the light was the best on this one that day.) The old stone bridge shown is the O’Connell Bridge. This is just a great place to take a break, sit down and people watch when you are exploring Dublin. It’s also a good place to take a break from a few pints and recharge as well. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

#OTD in 1979 – The memorial statue to James Larkin on O’Connell Street, Dublin is unveiled.
Jim Larkin, a revolutionary socialist, dominated the Irish Trade Union movement. G. B. Shaw once described him as ‘the greatest Irishman since Parnell’. Today a statue of “Big Jim” stands on O’Connell Street in Dublin. The inscription on the front of the monument is an extract in French, Irish and English from one of his famous speeches: Les grands ne sont grands que parce que nous sommes à…

#OTD in Irish History | 15 May:
#OTD in Irish History | 15 May:
In the Liturgical calendar, it is the Feast Day of St Dymphna. According to tradition, she lived in the 7th century and was the daughter of a pagan Irish king and his Christian wife. She was murdered by her father. St. Dymphna is the patron saint of the nervous, emotionally disturbed, mentally ill, and those who suffer neurological disorders – and, consequently, of psychologists, psychiatrists,…
