Formal OC Introductions - Áine an Tordarroch (fc Danielle Galligan) - and when we'll sing, we'll sing together (not alone)
As most of my OCs on my Masterlists were added after the initial post, I'm going to be posting about the ones you might not've seen for the next couple weeks!
Resident of the Skellige Isles and second cousin to Eist Tuirseach, Áine an Tordarroch has always longed to visit the mainland, and finally gets the chance when she's eighteen - where she promptly meets and befriends the Witcher Eskel. Months later she meets Jaskier at a certain banquet, and Ksenia - another bard and, as she later finds out, a firebird - on her fifth trip to the main. Fearless and a powerful fighter, she is fiercely protective of her friends, unbothered by Jaskier's vibrant energy, Ksenia's long history, or Eskel being a Witcher, (or Magni, the cat she got via the Law of Surprise). Over the next fifteen years she travels the span of the Continent with one or another (or sometimes all) of her friends, facing down everything from corrupt nobles to fearsome beasts, and it seems that will be the extent her encounters, which she is fine with. But there is war on the horizon, threatening the entire continent, and there are whispers growing of a powerful Child of Destiny - whispers she fears are about Cirilla, her cousin's granddaughter, someone she knows is tied to another Witcher. And when the war begins, Áine will have to do everything she can to save the people she loves...

Six Sentence Sunday and there are two extracts for you today!!! First of all, one from my Angel & Riley story which I've recently gotten back to and which currently stands at over 9k words (this was intended to be short fic how did this happen). This is a few days after Riley's near death experience in 5x04 - which goes a little differently than in canon and Angel helped saved his life, which is a milestone in their relationship.
Things were still a little strained between them, but it was clear Riley was making an effort to unlearn a lot of things and genuinely seemed to want to spend time with him as well, so Angel would make the effort in return.
And it was…better than he thought it might be. It was clear that under it all Riley really was just a country boy, and he talked about his life in Iowa with such fondness…
But he was happy here. More so, now that the government were off his case and he and the Scoobies were starting to talk about things, but there was still that undercurrent of insecurity – and uncertainty, because as he told Angel over drinks one night, he’d wanted to become a soldier in order to protect people, and instead he’d been used and lied to and sometimes the real monsters were people. He was a military man without a military, because he didn’t trust them not to pull the same shit years down the line.
“I thought I knew what was right and what was wrong,” he’d said mournfully, “and now I don’t, and I can’t help but wonder how many lives I ruined because of what I was a part of, what I refused to question.”
“Good.” Angel had replied. “That’s a good sign, Riley, trust me. I know it’s not easy – believe me, I know – but you’re starting to make amends. You’re learning from Giles and planning to train with Buffy once your strength’s back up, and you’re not going to run blind into anything again.”
“I hope not, but…what if I do? What if I do something stupid and I don’t know how to fix it?”
“You pick yourself back up, and you try again.”
There's still a while to go because it turns out they have a lot to say.
The next extract is from chapter 3 of when a friendship is found (across the seas) - set in 1949, the morning after the banquet in Cintra, and Jaskier is getting to know Áine.
“I noticed, my dear Islander, that you didn’t seem at all fazed by the White Wolf.”
“That’s because I’ve never believed that Witchers are monsters. Besides,” she continued, her expression turning fond, “I’m friends with a Witcher myself.”
“You’re what?” Jaskier could hardly contain his excitement and wished he had his lute with him. “Oh, this I must hear, Áine – you’re friends with a Witcher.”
“Yup - have been for several months.”
“Who? How? What’s he like? Is he of the Wolf School? Do you think I could meet him?”
“That’s a lot of questions, Jaskier, but—”
Whatever she was going to say was interrupted by a familiar voice calling her name.
Jaskier is just about to find out she's Eist's kinswoman (and is utterly delighted by this fact).

It's Work-in-Progress Wednesday, and today I'm posting an extract from chapter 3 of when a friendship is found (across the seas) - it's 1249, Jaskier's POV and it's the morning after the banquet in Cintra.
Jaskier had honestly not intended to spend the night with anyone but, well, Halina had been very sweet, and there was nothing like a near death experience via Princess to bring people closer together and it wasn't as though Geralt were still here to reprimand him. Still, despite what his friend might think, he was capable of being discreet, so had kept things quiet and was now slinking out of the room just as dawn was breaking and hoping he'd be able to get back to his room before anyone noticed- "So much for being a eunuch." Jaskier most definitely did not let out a shriek as he spun around to see a young woman giving him a faintly amused look. She looked...somewhat familiar, and the clothing and the braided hair pointed her towards being Skelligan but who... He spotted the turquoise belt and it came to him. "Áine an Tordarroch!" Yes, he remembered now. "You scowled through most of the banquet, cheered up after requesting 'The Shieldmaiden and the faerie', and heroically leapt into the fray to defend Urcheon." And Jaskier still hadn't figured out how she'd gotten hold of a sword.
This chapter is going to feature a lot of irony, but I enjoy writing Áine and Jaskier a lot, and first meetings are always fun to write.

Yes, this is belated, I've just been a bit busy recently, but here's short extract from chapter 2 of when a friendship is found (across the seas) - it's 1255, and Áine has travelled to Oxenfurt to meet up with her good friend Jaskier.
“Honestly, Áine, were you impressed by my tales of daring and bravery?”
“I only came in for the last four songs.” She told him as Jaskier led them to a colourful looking tavern near the University – the Golden Griffin, which certainly piqued her interest. “And you’ve added to the wyvern one – last time it was only two wyverns and certainly no drakes.”
“It was truly impressive—”
“And didn’t happen.”
“Excuse you, my White Wolf most certainly did fight—”
“I never denied he fought a wyvern,” Áine interrupted, as they made their way inside, “but remember that I’m friends with a Witcher as well, which means I know that wyverns don’t hunt in more than groups of two and would be more likely to focus their attention on any other Draconids that came near them than a Witcher. And they’re not found near lakes, either.”
This chapter is basically just Áine and Jaskier hanging out and teasing each other, and will also the feature the debut of Magni, Áine's Cat Surprise.

A little bonus today and an introduction to an animal showing up soon in when a friendship is found (across the seas) - Magni the cat, Áine's gift via the Law of Surprise in 1254 and who will remain a constant companion in the years thereafter. He also tolerates Eskel - no one is entirely sure why, though Áine believes that it is down to Magni's bond with her, as Eskel is her friend and very important to her.

I know I normally do these on Sundays but I hadn't really written much by then and I'm also thinking of doing the Wednesdays as well!!! And today I'm going to be sharing an extract from my Witcher fic which I have finally started working on again (hooray), and this scene features my OC Áine an Tordarroch - a Skelliger whose fancast is Danielle Gilligan - and Eskel who, and I will repeat this as often as I have to, is going to look like if his original actor Thue Ersted Rasmussen had gotten to play him (and with actual scars because that's kind of the point, that he looks menacing but isn't). For context, Áine has already run into Eskel on the road, and has seen him in a tavern and gone to talk to him after spotting him in a tavern.
“…I’m a Witcher, Miss Áine.” He said quietly, eyes falling away from her as he looked down at his tankard. “People don’t keep Witchers company.” “I’m not people,” she pointed out, “I make my own choices. If you don’t want me to sit here, I’ll leave, but I wouldn’t have come over if I didn’t want to.” “You have your friends.” “Acquaintances, more like.” She corrected. “Like I said, if you want to me leave I will.” Eskel studied her for a moment, and Áine wondered if he would send her away – maybe she’d overstepped despite her efforts not to – but he didn’t. Still looked at her like she was a puzzle to him, though. “Are you really not afraid?” “I generally don’t listen to gossip – I know Witchers are extremely powerful and dangerous, I’m not totally ignorant…” “Of me, I meant. You must have noticed…” “What, your scars? That’s not exclusive to Witchers, you know - I’ve seen plenty of scars, even got some of my own. I imagine it’s an occupation hazard for monster hunters. Besides, I met you in daylight, remember? If I was the kind of person to run away out of fear, I would’ve done that the moment I saw you properly.”
Áine is something of a force of nature which is fun to write, and Eskel's not quite sure what to make of her (he gets there in the end). The fic itself is going to be a multichapter and also non-chronological because I liked that aspect of S1, though the sequel fics will be more chronological.
As for later seasons, I never got around to watching S2 for a number of reasons - kept the spoilers blacklisted - but I heard rumours nonetheless and since I finally looked it up online and found out what they did I'm definitely fucking not. If I wanted to watch that kind of bullshit characterisation and character death I'd just go and watch Supernatural again, like fucking hell that was just bad writing on so many levels (don't get me started), so it'll diverge heavily after S1, just so you know.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💗
Thank you very much!!! In no particular order:
when a friendship is found (across the seas) - my Witcher multi-chap I started recently featuring my OC Áine an Tordarroch and her friendships with Eskel, Jaskier, and Ksenia, another OC, and a story I'm proud to have started as she's one of my favourite OCs I've created.
one night changes nothing (except when it changes everything) - my Krypton Seg/Adam fic where they sleep together once and Adam is convinced that it's never going to be anything more - and is somewhat oblivious to Seg's growing feelings for him.
the truth (long overdue) - my Spider-Man 2 fix-it that I'd been meaning to write for years wherein Peter doesn't just take off and instead tries to explain things to Harry, and returns after the battle to give him the full story (as he should've done in the first place)
Contemplation - an FFN import first written in 2012 and the first example of a fic I wrote in response to bullshit canon, after Nintendo decided the Koopalings weren't Bowser's kids after all, so I wrote a story from Ludwig von Koopa's POV about his view on them being left out in the games...but making crystal clear that they would always be his kids to me and in any fics I wrote.
make your choice now (for tomorrow may be far too late) - my second fic centering on Mike Barnes and a fix-it of KK3 where Mike realises that actually, this whole revenge plot is really fucked up and he wants no part in it anymore...and tries to take matters into his own hands when Daniel doesn't believe him (don't worry, he makes it).

From the wip tag game, I'd be interested in hearing about your Witcher WIP and also the Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) WIP.
My Witcher WIP is two years old and features an OC - Áine of Clan Tordarroch, a distant cousin to Eist who spends a lot of time since turning 18 on the mainland. Along the way she befriends Ksenia - a violinist - Jaskier, and Eskel (played by the original actor), and eventually ends up embroiled in the chaos consuming the continent. My current plan is for the story to be non-chronological at first - but that can easily change, and since I haven’t yet seen S2 I don’t know what I’ll keep and what I’ll boot from it. Here’s an extract from it, after Áine and her friends have just had to fight off bandits in Cintra:
“Our first meeting in years and it’s in the middle of a battle. I suppose it would be strange if you went somewhere without a fight breaking out.”
“Fuck off, Eist. If you had decent patrols in this country I wouldn’t have had to use my best weapon.” She snarked back, sheathing said weapon and turning to her kinsman. “You’re lucky we had fighters in this group.”
“Well, your fighting prowess was never in doubt.” He cast an eye over Ksenia and Jaskier as they approached, the bard sporting a gash on his arm but otherwise unharmed. “Interesting company you keep.”
“Friends, Eist. Jaskier’s a good man. A compete fucking idiot, but a good man. She frowned slightly. “I know he’s not Calanthe’s favourite person, Eist.”
“Áine, he has been here since the betrothal and she hasn’t protested before.”
“Forgive me if I don’t exactly trust your Queen’s moods even if you’re not fazed by it.”
There was tension in the air for a moment, but she couldn’t keep the grin from her face, and she tackled Eist in a hug.”
“Ah, it’s good to see you, cousin.”
“Good to see you too.” He hugged her back, laughing. “You fought like a true Skelligan.”
“Is that implying I haven’t before?” She teased as he drew away. Her friends had reached them, Kes looking faintly amused while Jaskier just looked bewildered. “Ah, my two companions.”
“Ksenia, your Majesty.” The violinst sketched a bow. Jaskier just stared.
“You know the King of Cintra?” A slight glint was in his eyes, one familiar to anyone who spent a lot of time with him. No doubt he would be composing songs by sunset.
My Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) WIP is set in the original sixties series and features - surprise surprise - yet another OC, Sarah Jackson. An apparently ordinary woman who is hired by Jeff whilst Jeanie’s away on holiday - she thinks it’ll be just another job...except she has the ability to see ghosts and immediately meets Marty. Marty’s delighted to be able to speak to someone else and Jeff is glad to have someone who doesn’t think he’s talking to himself all the time, and she ends up becoming part of the team. I’ve only written a handful of scenes, but it’ll basically be an adventure story.
