If a really great project was sent to you that featured something that was one of your coworkers’ special interests (say, mermaids) would you pass the project along to them if you were going to pass AND even if they were currently closed to queries?
Yep. I mean I really can't stress enough : WE SHARE. We ask you to query one of us because WE! SHARE! We share promising work with one another every day. And yes, that includes those agents that are closed to queries.
Well -- OK, there's an exception. Obviously if they are closed to queries because they are currently literally not working for an extended time -- because, say, they are on maternity leave -- we aren't making them work when they aren't working. Common sense. But if they are just closed to queries but still working, they are definitely amongst the sharees.
(As a matter of fact, on the latest episode of the podcast which will be going up this week, I talk about this with associate agent Paige Terlip -- I have gotten queries from her when I was closed, and vice-versa, that we have signed. As a matter of fact, I'd say that MOST of the new folks I have signed in the past couple of years came to me via one of my colleagues sharing, and I was probably closed to submissions. And a good fair handful of the ones that I have shared with them, they have gone on to sign. The system works!)
