Christmas With the Okamoto-Nelson Family (part one)

Victor, Yuri and Caroline invite you in for a peek at their holiday celebration…
Yuri was the first one up. It was still dark outside and it was chilly in the house, so he made a nice cozy fire in the fireplace so the house would be toasty when Victor got home from work.
Even though Victor said he’d make breakfast when he got home, Yuri decided to surprise him by preparing the morning meal on his own instead.
He made pancakes, spinach omelettes and bacon.
When Victor arrived home from work, he was indeed surprised and very happy.
Victor: Thanks for making breakfast. I remember when you could barely touch food, let alone cook a whole amazing meal.
Yuri: I guess you could say I’ve come a long way since then.
Victor: I’m going to take a quick shower to wake myself up and wash the hospital smell off me. As soon as I’m done, we can eat.
Yuri. I’ll get Caroline up while you’re in the shower.
Victor: Sounds like a plan. I’ll be right back.
Yuri: Wait. Aren’t you forgetting something?
Victor: Oh, right! *kisses* Merry Christmas.
By the time Victor was done in the shower, Caroline was wide awake and ready for the festivities. They all shared a family hug and posed for a quick photo by the tree before sitting down to their delicious breakfast that’d been kept warm in the oven.
After breakfast, it was time for presents!
Caroline got super excited when she opened her present from Victor.
Caroline: I got my very own snowboard, and it’s even my favourite colour!
Victor’s present from Caroline was obviously a big hit too. She picked it out herself (but Yuri paid for it). Caroline and Yuri both knew their favourite “big kid” would love it.
Victor unexpectedly disappeared while Caroline was playing with her new toys.
Caroline: Where did Victor go?
Yuri: He went over to Nanna and Grandpa’s house for a few minutes. He’ll be right back.
Caroline: Why did he go over there?
Yuri: Because there’s one more surprise for you that he needs to collect from them.
Victor: Caroline, look what I’ve got!
Caroline: My puppy!
Grace and Julian decided the puppy was healthy and independent enough to leave her mother a few days ahead of schedule, so Caroline could welcome her home for Christmas.
Caroline: Her name is Pirate Cookie because she has a patch over one eye like a pirate and her spots are the colour of peanut butter cookies.
It was instant love!
Love was obviously in the air. Victor and Yuri didn’t need mistletoe this time.
Caroline: Excuse me!
Yuri: Did you think we wouldn’t give you some love too? How about a hug?
Caroline: I love you, Yuri. Thanks for all my presents and for being my forever family.
Yuri: Thank you for helping me learn how much better if feels to give than to receive.
They finally changed out of their PJs and then sang some Christmas songs around the tree. Caroline’s puppy joined in too.
