The O’Neil Family Tree

April O’Neil has been a constant companion to the Turtles throughout the many iterations of TMNT however we rarely see much of April’s human family to the point where most iterations don’t even give April’s parents names so I tried to find names for April’s human family members across the different iterations of TMNT

Mother:

April’s mother has only been seen or mentioned a few times, however we have at least three different names for her. In Mirage her name is Bridget O’Neil, in IDW her name is Elizabeth O’Neil & in Rise her name is Carol O’Neil

Father:

Similarly to April’s mother, April’s father has only been named a few times however he has at least three different names across the iterations of TMNT. In Mirage his name is Robert O’Neil, in IDW his John O’Neil & in the 2012 series his name is Kirby O’Neil

Siblings:

In Mirage, April originally had an older sister named Robyn O’Neil however the 2003 series is the only other iteration that she’s appeared in, though a fun fact about this character was that she was originally going to be named June to give her & April matching names

Aunts & Uncles:

In the 1987 series April has an Aunt named Agatha Marbles her name was inspired by Agatha Christies character Miss Marple

In the 2003 series April is given an Uncle named Augustus O'Neil, his name comes from the month of August giving him a matching name with April.

Children:

Throughout the iterations of TMNT April has had at least two children

The first being Shadow Jones from the Mirage universe, the adopted daughter of April & Casey

The second being Casey Marie Jones who is the daughter of April & Casey in the Last Ronin universe.

Spouse:

April has ended up marrying Casey Jones in multiple TMNT iterations with Casey being her husband in mirage, the Last Ronin universe & the 2003 series & Casey is April’s fiancé in the 2007 movie

Descendants:

Due to time travel being part of multiple iterations of TMNT there have been a few instances where we have met April’s descendants

Nobuku is April’s great grand daughter in the Archie comics & was trained by a future Leonardo along with multiple other students.

Cody Jones is the great grand son of April & Casey in the 2003 series

Old and New Friends (ROTTMNT Fanfic)

Chapter 2

Warning: long chapter.

Sunita and the turtles stepped inside the living room and sat themselves on either the floor or couch. Raph opened the pizza boxes to reveal the steaming hot deliciousness inside. The six teenagers eagerly grabbed a slice and gobbled it up hungrily.

“Okay April, you need to tell us why you’ve been so down,” Mikey points a finger at her. “Because you can’t keep it a secret forever.”

“That’s exactly what Raph and I said earlier,” Leo said, slightly aggravated that his younger brother would repeat something they already mentioned.

April picked up the box from the couch and held it out for them to see. “‘Me and My Best Friend’,” Donnie reads the box out loud. “Hey, I thought WE were your best friends,” Mikey pouts, childishly.

“You are, but this is way before I met any of you guys,” She takes off the lid to reveal the old photos. The mutants murmured in awe as they took and observed them.

“Who’s this boy with you?” asked Sunita, as they already figured out that the little girl was none other than their friend.

“He was my first friend,” April smiled, sadly and fondly as she looked at one of the images. “We met in Pre-K.”

“What’s his name?” They all have sympathetic looks on their faces.

“Casey... Casey Jones.”

“No way, that name is so cool!” Leo’s eyes shine in awe.

April couldn’t help but chuckle. “Okay, here we go...” She takes a deep breath as her friends encouraged her to take her time. Mayhem laid down next to her.

“It was the first day of Preschool...”

Many Years Ago

An 4 year-old April was standing nervously in front of the entrance of Little Apple Preschool. She has her curly brunette hair styled in two low pigtails with yellow barrettes clipped to the right side to her bangs. She is wearing a short-sleeved yellow sundress with a floral pattern to match her hair clips, along with a bright green jacket to cover herself with. She also has blue Mary Jane shoes and while socks on her feet, with a butterfly-patterned lunchbox in her left hand.

“You need to go inside, April,” a gentle voice gestured. It belonged to a African-American woman with short curly brown hair and dark blue earrings. She is wearing a orange blouse and light blue knee-length skirt as her attire, along with grey flats as shoes.

“But I don’t know anyone there... and what if the kids are mean?” Little April slightly whimpered, turning around to hug her mother tightly.

“Sweetie, that is the point of going to school,” Mrs. O’Neil explained in a soothing tone. “We get to meet new people and make friends. And if there’s anyone picking on you, you can tell the teacher or me”.

“Okay, Mommy”, her daughter sniffed and let go. They both went inside the building to see the room decorated with posters and pictures of children and cute-looking insects. There were also tables and chairs with school supplies, such as crayons and pencils.

“Hello, Carol”, A voice spoke up. The mother-and-daughter duo turned to see a Latin-American woman walking towards them. She was around Mrs. O’Neil’s (or Carol’s) age with a tanned skin complexion and straight light-brown hair that is tied up in a bun. Her outfit is a peach-colored dress with white stripe patterns. She is also wearing brown sandals on her feet and a black headband.

“Hello, Maria”, Mrs. O’Neil greeted, warmly. The two adults shook hands with each other. “Oh, is this April?” the Latin woman slightly kneeled down to the little girl and smiled. “You look so pretty in that dress.”

April gave a small smile, waving shyly. “This is Mrs. Jones,” her mother introduced. “She’s a old friend of mine and she’s going to be your teacher during your time here, okay?”

“Okay...”

“Be a good girl for her,” Mrs. O’Neil instructed. “I’ll pick you up later.”

“Yes, Mommy,” April hugged her mother and watched her exist the building.

“I’m happy that you’ll be joining us, April.” Mrs. Jones grinned as she began to stack some construction paper. “You know, I have a son around the same age as you in class as well. Maybe, you’ll meet him here.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Jones,” The young girl chirped, already feeling a twinge of excitement.

“Hold it, hold it,” Leo holds up a hand in confusion. “ ‘Mrs. Jones’? Are you saying that---”

“Yep,” April nods her head. “His mom was our pre-k teacher back in the day.”

“So... how did you meet Casey?” He raises an eyebrow.

“I’m getting to that part...”

*I’ve decided to end this chapter right here, because it was getting a little too long already and I don’t want to write the entire backstory on one post. Plus, I thought it would be fun that Casey’s mother in this version would be their pre-k teacher.*

*Casey was only mentioned in Chapter 2 just like the previous one. So I’ll probably put him in Chapter 3.*

*Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading the fanfic so far. Also, Rise of TMNT and their characters belong to Nickelodeon. This fanfic’s version of Casey’s mom belongs to me.*

Book Challenge 2020 (100 books!!) (I did it!!)

After forgetting to track my reading for three years, I started recording my reading on Tumblr last year again, and I’m committed to continuing that this year!

This year is my final year of my Bachelor’s Degrees (I’m finishing English in June) and I’m planning to do a gap year from September on, so now more university after June (at least as far as 2020 is concerned).

I do not really foresee any issues or obstacles to reading this year, except of course finishing my thesis which will probably take quite some time, so I do expect a decline around April until early June. Although I do have a lot more time off in my gap year, I used to read a lot of mandatory books for my studies, so I don’t know whether having a gap year will mean reading more books. Since I’m not doing any university studying, I am interested in reading academic books by myself, studying by myself. Those books are often longer, denser and just take more time to get through; consequently, I might read fewer books in the same amount of energy and time spent reading.

To make a (somewhat) long story short: my expectations are in line with the amount of books I’ve read in the last years, so I’m expecting to read 75 books this year!

Update: it’s mid-October and I’ve already read 99 books this year, so I’ve finished my original goal of 75 books! Now I’m going for 100 books (which should be easy to do, and after that we’ll just see how it goes!).

The crossed book is the one I’m currently reading, I’ve written reviews for books that have a (x) behind them, with the (x) being a link to my Goodreads review!

Update: Today (November 23) I’ve read 114 books so I’ve finished my challenge of 100 books! Right now, I’m still 25 books ahead schedule! Let’s see if I can keep that energy up!

Northlight Theatre continues free Interplay series of new play readings with A Distinct Society Written and directed by Kareem Fahmy Sunday, May 16-20, 2021 Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, continues to engage audiences with its commitment to developing new work with free Interplay readings. A Distinct Society, written and directed by Kareen Fahmy, premieres Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 6:30pm. The cast of A Distinct Society includes Barzin Akhavan, Declan Desmond, Marika Engelhardt, Susaan Jamshidi, and Kevin Minor. The dramaturg is Leean Kim Torske. The Zoom Coordinator is Sophia Danielle-Grenier A quiet library that straddles the border of the U.S. and Canada becomes an unlikely crucible for five people from around the world. When an Iranian family, separated from one another by the "Muslim ban," use the library as a meeting place, the head librarian, a U.S. border patrol officer, and a local teenager have to choose between breaking the law and saving themselves. The play is set in the main reading room of the Haskell Free Library & Opera House, located on the border between Derby Line, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec. While the library and the circumstances around it are real, the characters and events in this play are entirely fictional. A Reuter’s feature about the library is available here. The reading is part of Northlight’s Interplay New Play Development program, providing customized support for new work in the critical stages of early play development. The premieres will be followed by a live Q&A with the director and playwright. Recordings of each play will be available for 96 hours following the premiere. Dragon Spring Phoenix Rise

Dragon Spring Phoenix Rise” is too long, too confusing, in places tedious, in other places overwrought and even creepy; its silvery and spandex costumes look like a mix of 1950s sci-fi movie and 1970s disco; its songs are paltry and its underscoring persistently annoying – New Age ambient pounding that cries out “We don’t trust that you’ll find what’s going on dramatic.” HOWEVER, amid the awfulness there are a scattering of impressive moments — of visual splendor, awesome stagecraft, and exciting dance and martial arts choreography… enough of them to make me glad that I can say I saw this first theatrical spectacle in The Shed’s inaugural season.

“We’re Only Alive For A Short Amount of Time,” is simple, unfussy, occasionally awkward, more often delightful, ultimately stirring. But it is also truly disturbing. It is David Cale’s first theater piece that reveals the central trauma of his life, which occurred when he was a teenager.

Album Reviews: Feist, Cold Beat + more

Cold Beat — Chaos By Invitiation

“In Motion” begins the Cold Beat album Chaos By Invitation. It is a slow jam, an ’80s style electro rocker with a fly assist by Phil Manley who also manned the boards. Lighters swaying the air, heart sleeves and strobe lights. “Black Licorice” is another highlight, a Kraftwerk-ish skirmish, it will invoke the robot, possibly a top rock. “62 Moons” is another gem, a rocker with metallic sheen. “Strawberry Moon” has an early Cure vibe, the dance beat, the keyboard vamp, and the Robert Smith guitar. This album is full of moments and new favorites abound. While I’m sure some vintage gear was used, this is no trip down memory lane. Though it may tug at thoughts of past greatness, the album is still an individual statement.

CFM — Dichotomy Desaturated

Charles Moothart is the catalyst of CFM. These sounds are representative of the school of rock that birthed things such as Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin (both of whom Moothart has played with). It is T Rex, it is Love, it is early Pink Floyd, or maybe it is none of those things. Maybe those are just the closest sound markers. These are not certainly not covers, but they are informed. “Pinch the Dream” is at one time melancholic and then moves into something more sinister. “Saline / The Man / Kind to You” drips of psychedelic rhythm and blues, heavy bassline and kaleidescopic atmosphere. “Dead Weight” is another voyage, fuzz guitar and drum magnificence, it is your living room alive in a green hued light. Rock and roll, pure to the vein, you might bleed a little from the nose as you ascend. Rise you sweet beast.

Feist — Pleasure

One thing that is part of the idea of pleasure is pain. Pleasure is seeped in the ecstatic and the ecstatic often has a dark side. Feist didn’t make a dark album, maybe influenced by stints of darkness, but she did make songs colored by love and life, and they are ultimately triumphant. “So when I get it I make sense of a mysterious thing” begins a lyric on the first song “Pleasure,” a Rid of Me style rocker that talks about pleasure as what it is, desired and dangerous. But let’s talk about “I Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” it’s softness and rage is the thing of pondered love, longing and disengaging, reaching out and then retreating: “I felt with some certainty that you must have died, because how I could I live if you’re still alive.” This album does a masterful job of balancing serenity and madness, instruments lightly strummed and then attacked, faint to aggressive, but Feist always maintains a cool. “Any Party” is a grand of example, a sort Dylan flow is employed, but then it gets gentle, like those moments at a party when you run into that person, and the ruckus and the bombast disappears into the scheme of two people planning the rendezvous. The duck out, maybe forbidden, maybe we have someone else, but the memories, the idea of you: “You know, I’d leave any party for you.” This album is adventure, it moans and whispers and then crackles and pops. It’s pretty music, but not pretty in that way, there are moles and scars, they’re is broken furniture and uncomfortableness. But then it ends with “Young Up” and leaves us with “even if you don’t have your own back and everything that needs to fall has fallen.” This love, these relationships, these hard times, this happiness and sadness. Oh, the memories of fireworks and the falls, it was a pleasure.

Deathlist — S/T

Deathlist is the project of multi-instrumentalist Jenny Hogan who has put in work with Summer Cannibals, World Atlas, Mortals, and My Teenage Stride, to name a few. This album is many things, it shows many faces. The opener “Wait” is slow rocker, reminiscent of the better Hole songs or better grunge, but that is only the first flash of lightning. “Dream Of” ups the ante by combining a groove and a rugged guitar with a tremolo keyboard giving the song a sort of black magic blues. “Stay There” is a pop rocker from a mystic land; “It seems this being has heard Red Red Meat.” The great thing of all of these songs is the subtle color Hogan adds throughout the album, mood shifts are abundant, singular possibly in performance, but the faces put forth continually accentuate each song’s personality. I am feeling it, yo.

The New Year — Snow

Music from The New Year is that folding and unfolding, the close and the wide shot, seeing the inside and the outside. The New Year believe in patience and pace. Take “Homebody,” it seems like a basic acoustic ballad that then expands, allowing the thought to fully form and establish itself: “My body wants to be resting, my mind wants to wander.” “Recent History” has a little more tempo, but it also shares the quality of space and color, each shade appearing the right time. The band sings of progress and selfhood, the life as it is, aspirations and disappointments. “Myths” is great example of this, it builds and grows: “There’s no reason to celebrate, the best things we’ve done won’t live on,” a sobering but definite truth that appears and dissipates. Like the best New Year songs, wisdom is espoused as ordinary. These are not solipsistic platitudes, they are realities of existence in all its glory. “The Beast” is another beauty, grand and then small, it appears, stalks, and disappears. To those indoctrinated in the meticulous magic of the Kadanes, we are prepared for the faint guitar lines, the locked rhythms, the shades of grey within the color grey and that ultimately the whole is always magnificent and always gratifying.

Tara Jane O’Neil – Tara Jane O’Neil

I am, have been, and will continue to be a fan of Tara Jane O’Neil. Songs can evoke and represent emotion, but what is emotion, what is the moment in the moment, what did the napkins on the table look like blowing from the table at the time you decided that this… That is Tara Jane O’Neil, the album, the many textures, the story: history, myth, science. “Blow” is a perfect song, it feels good to hear, it moves through you like a Carole King/Barry Gibb thing. “Joshua” swells and subsides, it flashes and rumbles, but it floats. “Laugh” is pure gold, it resists the ideas, promoting a simple adage: “Laugh.” We must be more alive than our philosophies. Not sure it is about that, but it’s that good. Recorded with many of the greats, James Elkington, Gerald Dowd, Nick Macari and Jim James arranging strings, it’s still an amazing and essential Tara Jane O’Neil album. “Purple” is a college course, “Pink” is a rippling river, it is just before sunset, stillness and glow. Yes, you should.
