May you think about talking machines in relation to the faw? A credit card reader showed the text "Thank you" to me and I randomly thought, "You're lucky I'm not a fae" and I had to stop to think if any fae would actually think twice about a machine displaying that to them. Like, it could be seen the same as words written in a book, but the way it was set up is obviously to purposely thank whoever was using it using human langauge, so does it count as being said by the person who made it do that? But what if multiple people made the machine
And then I thought about those conversational AI people have made nowdays and what fae would think of those. Like, could a fae gain power over an AI by stealing its name? Or things of that nature
My apologies if someone has asked something like this before
methinks they would consider a machine without sentience and as such about as offensive as a sign saying "fuck you" someone left in the middle of a field. but, for example, if someone used a computer program to speak, them typing/saying "thank you" via the vocoder would be equivalent to someone saying it with their larynx. or using sign language, writing it down, and you could probably piss off a few of em by using charades.
but yeah if a fae used a self checkout machine i don't think they'd place a curse on the CVS or anyone who like. built the thing. plus any fae that's interacting w something like that is comfortable enough around humans and human stuff to know what's up, it's not like in time travel movies where the knight is shouting at the drive through speaker cause he thinks it's the devil.
same deal with names, they're only interested in stealing names from humans to use them for... some reason. human names have power because *insert hypothesis here* but there's little "evidence" that non-human (mundane) things don't have the same pull. a boat is not something the fae could comandeer just by taking it's name. i don't think a fae could own google just by. knowing google.
great questions though! we got a couple about fae and programming/machine learning or whatever too, i'll dig those up in a sec.
