Something that amuses me greatly is when an anime character with artichoke-like or some other gravity-defying, ridiculous looking hairdo is revealed to style the hair that way. Especially when the same series has other characters with similar gravity-defying hairstyles who are simply born looking that way. So you just assume some level of anime logic is going on, and don't question it until said guy comes out of the shower / bath with the flattest, longest and most normal hair you've ever seen, and for a sec it looks like a wholly new character until you realize it's artichoke dude with his hair down and ungelled. It's so funny. Gets me every time. Like, I can excuse shitty hairdos if it's just a character design choice, but to know a guy threw on half a bottle of hair gel to look like he stuck a fork in a electric socket? Instant loserboi energy. There's no coming back from that

Btw it's so funny how Nagi keeps wondering what motivates other blue lockers to keep going and then he asks this very candid question to two of the most unhinged and soccer-obsessed freaks in there. Like, baby I don't know how to break it to you but the answer you're looking for is insanity. It's not you it's them. Your tragic flaw is that you don't share everyone else's obsession with destroying people's lives with a soccer ball fhdjhdhdid

All of us Dabi stans waiting to see him do his funky little dance so we can clap for him like proud and emotional parents watching their toddler's first play in kindergarten, cheering like it's an Oscar-worthy performance because in our heart it is. That's our little man, all grown up. Baby's first emotional breakdown during a nation-wide live broadcasted attempt at patricide :') they grow up so fast

I don't think I'll ever tire of the "everyone thinks we're dating" trope applied to nagireo because these two are constantly saying stuff like "stay with me until the end" "I want him to be mine" "I'm Reo's partner" "good boy" "Reo is amazing" "my treasure" "I like being with you, Reo" "you're fine the way you are" "I felt like if I said that you'd never come back to me" "I've always been with you" and look at each other like this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then when someone questions their closeness and asks if they're dating they're genuinely like "why would you think that?"
It gets me every time

Rewatching the todofam hospital scene in the anime made me realize that the twisted irony in Enji feeling sorry for himself, and why it really rings hollow as a display of regret, is that unlike him, his first victim has completely lost his ability to cry. Tho Touya should be the one weeping about the absolute injustice he suffered through, he simply...can't anymore. And he has to live with that. With the fact that people misconstruct his frantic crying for sadistic glee, now that he doesn't have working tear ducts anymore.
His abuser, however, can still weep as many crocodile tears as needed to assure his conscience that he mourned the future he cut short, and then people will gather around his bedside and pat his back for doing the bare minimum—that is, showing a moderate amount of regret for five whole minutes, and then moving on with his life.
And idk, I know Enji's remorse was supposed to be genuine, but the fact that he can turn it on and off at will, while Touya's closest thing to showing his sorrow is crying literal blood?
That's some kind of poetic, cruel irony.

Gosh I can't even imagine what it's like to chase your father for 20 years, hoping for a smidge of attention, only for him to keep sidelining you for your little brother over and over no matter what you do or how much you break in his absence. And then you feel yourself running out of time in this world and your wish is still the same, that of getting your father to acknowledge you at least once in your miserable life. And you chase him down again, even if he still doesn't want to look at you. Even if he'd still cling to any other goal to give himself an excuse to keep neglecting you. Even if he sent that same little brother after you, hoping he would take care of the problem child for him and wash his hands of having to deal with you ever again. And finally you're face to face with him, without anyone else to grab his focus away from looking you in the eye. And the first thing he asks you is still
where is your brother

"stay with me until the end"
"don't die before I do"
...
episode nagi is a romcom when you read it through the lenses of Nagi desperately trying to have his confession be acknowledged, while Reo remains dumb as a brick and oblivious no matter how corny and increasingly obvious Nagi's lines get

normies will never know what it's like to have the mangakas themselves, an entire team of merch artists, and spinoff novel writers all join efforts to bring to life lines and artworks that are doing the heavy lifting of shipping your otp for you. I keep getting baffled and amused by how much bolder the fanservice gets with each passing day. I'm not ruling out the chance of getting official artwork of these two kissing with tongue at some point. it's that in your face

hori is such a coward for not giving dabi his own dragon to ride. There was even a blue one in the picture! but good on dabi for finally getting to do some father-son activities I guess. It took Enji only 24 years to clear out his schedule

I was rereading chapter 44 for fic writing purposes and
Oh my god
Can't believe I never put the pieces together before
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shouto's internal monologue here is literally foreshadowing. Change the subject of his thoughts from Rei to Touya and all of it still perfectly applies. The narrative significance of Shouto facing an estranged family member that might still hold resentment for him; Shouto's wish to reconnect mixed with the fear that makes his hands shake on that door handle (not dissimilar to his uncertainty towards Touya after the first war); the way Shouto's made to feel like he's the one holding the family member back from healing, together with his dad, despite that being a false belief and solely Enji's fault; the way it's purely Shouto's resolve that bridges that distance; the stress on Shouto feeling responsible for the abuse Rei suffered and the uncertainty he feels as the 'source' of her unhappiness (and by extension, Touya's).
The use of the word "existence" in particular stands out as significant: in jp, the word used here is the same Touya uses when he says he couldn't figure out why he "existed". The line that was translated as "with all I got" in japanese specifically has him talking about his body, thus referring more outwardly to his baggage as the "masterpiece" than as the pep talk it appears to be here. Which works as another callback to Touya's hangups
And then of course there's the most blatant hint that this is indeed supposed to read as foreshadowing:
"even if she's not asking for it"
Which directly ties to the war arc and Deku's resolve (mirrored by Ochako and, indeed, Shouto), to extend a helping hand to the villains even if they don't want the heroes' help.
And then, as the cherry on top, Shouto's eventual success here is framed as the one challenge he needs to overcome to truly call himself a hero.
🤯🤯
He's not. just talking. about Rei. At least on a metatextual level. Blows my mind.
But of course you won't know that until you reread everything from the beginning.
Rei was the first step towards Shouto finding his path as a hero, but the way Touya's next is woven into the story as early as this, and it's set up as the eventual climax of Shouto's arc right from the start
Chapter 44, guys. Dabi was introduced a couple of chapters later. Take that, haters. Shouto saving his brother was always in the plans.
You can say many things about Horikoshi's writing and its ups and downs, but you gotta hand it to him, this is super neat

youtube's algorythm, picking up on the fact that I consume ungodly amounts of yarn-adjacent videos: *recommends a macrame bracelet tutorial* this is what you like right
me: not quite but that looks dope. a bit advanced maybe.
me: okay I guess you got me curious now. what's one more creative hobby to add to the list *looks up simpler tutorials*
me: uh that looks similar to the bracelets I did when I was 12. fun coincidence. but that's still not basic enough for a complete beginner like me
me: *looks up basic macrame knots*
person in the tutorial: so you knot it only one side and this creates a spiraling effect—
me: wait a sec
me: I know this knot
me: *flashes back to the dozen of dna-shaped and other assorted knotted cords I did in middle school back when there was this whole handmade keychain trend that we called "scooby doos" for some reason*
me: uh
wild. why did we even call them that. why did I never know that there was more to this craft than cords. but most importantly why do I still remember this 18 years later when I can't even remember my friends' birthdays

Something I find ironic is that Dabi and Hawks have the same exact body type. Both are lean, have narrow waists, and have more meat in the upper part of their torso, around their shoulderblades / neck area, with a hint of solid pecs. For Hawks it makes sense since his training must've favored his back muscles because of his wings. For Dabi, I reckon it might be genetics...? He doesn't take much after his father's physique, particularly not in terms of build, but Enji has wide shoulders too, a trait that he passed down to Natsuo, and as it's shown here, partly to Touya as well.
One thing Hawks does have on Dabi is muscle definition because he obviously keeps in shape for the job, but he still remains quite... Compact. Small. His arms aren't more muscled than Dabi's, and his shoulders width isn't any wider. Their height difference is minimal, at 4 cm.
So I guess what I'm saying is that they could one hundred percent borrow or steal each other's clothes and they would be a perfect fit. With maybe the exception of pants because Hawks' would be slightly short on Dabi. And I guess the wing holes problem, but with how low-necked and loose Dabi normally wear his shirts, I doubt that would actually be an issue.
An actual issue they would definitely run into, though? Their styles horrifically clash with each other, lmao

I missed this detail the first time around, but after reading episode Nagi, Reo's shock here hits so much harder... The strength of will it must've taken for him to keep walking away when Nagi utters the one thing Reo once hoped to hear him say back...
"at least tell me you are having fun..."
