hello!! this is my selfship introductory post!!!

(i’m posting two versions of this post— one with all these lovely little gifs, and one without, as i know some people can be sensitive to them <33)

my dearly beloved selfship is lawliz 🥰 (or lawlizzie if i want it to sound even cuter lol).

some basics on the selfship!!!

we appear to be solar opposites in a bunch of different ways!

he’s calm and collected, always keeping things to himself unless he wants to ruin someone’s entire life and be painfully blunt about something HAKDJAHDSJS. whereas i seemingly am open, emotional, and spirited!!

my alias is “juliette rae ambers” (YES i created a full ass pseudo name dhsjdkajdjajajs). but to distinguish me irl and in-selfship-universe me, i’ll refer to my self insert as “juliette” whenever i talk about them.

L first met juliette through a past case, as they did some SHADY looking shit lmao. she’s just that eccentric and erratic <333

SO after spending some time with her, he eventually realizes they’re not apart of the case. like at ALL. but L basically goes “okay. wait, what the fuck’s wrong with her actually?” and continues to spend time with them because of that HAHAJDJSJSKSJS (again— juliette is eccentric and unpredictable.)

watari brings up how excited and affectionate juliette gets whenever he catches a glimpse of them together. L doesn’t get why watari is bringing this up. watari suggests that perhaps, juliette has a crush on L.

yeah, so L’s brain crashes DHSKDJSKDJAJHSAKS

he didn’t even think of that as a POSSIBILITY because he views himself as undesirable, ugly, creepy, etc (🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺)

so L brings this up with juliette. she denies it terribly (because they’re such a mess when they’re flustered), but after relenting, L reveals that he brought it up because he’s interesting in learning more about it. he has trouble identifying his own emotions and hasn’t been in love before, so he asks me to be apart of a study. it’s just information, essentially, letters detailing specific sensations and lovey dovey thoughts i get of him.

i agree to it because i LOVE psychology and have always wanted to be apart of a psychological study!

but at this point, L isn’t in love with me. he slowly falls over time, much to his mental debates on if it’s “ethical” or not. (he’s overthinking it!!! ALSO, WOW, L thinking about morals when it comes to someone?? they must be a ~special someone~ to him 🤭)

the stoic character who keeps to himself is (mutually) in love with the visually expressive, musically inclined jester!!! (does this make sense 😭)

juliette is with L throughout the entire kira case. the first time the taskforce meets L, she’s just standing to his right side (it’s a whole thing) in a lolita getup, so they assume, like watari, that juliette is a maid to L of sorts. but NO, juliette just fucking LOVES fashion lmaooooooo

ANYWAYS, what i’m trying to get to is that juliette loves music. it connects to them on such a deep level, and they love to sing and entertain. so sometimes, as a break/interlude in the kira case, she sings and plays songs. (they’re oddly captivating… just like a performer at an event.)

L can’t have the taskforce knowing him and juliette’s interpersonal relationship, so he and juliette have silently agreed to refer to each other as “associates” whenever the question comes up.

juliette talks out loud a lot as a habit. but, again, she likes to be entertaining first and foremost, so she only says things she thinks will be the most intriguing. she can keep to herself just fine. but L knows. he knows how intentional everything they do is. he can relate, and is intrigued about this part of them. and without fail, he listens, catalogues, and responds to everything she says U///U because he caaaaares 🥹🥹🥹 (much to light’s annoyance during the case lol)

once misa starts to reside in the taskforce headquarters, you fucking KNOW she and juliette would become ✨fashion besties✨ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

juliette is very silly, laidback, loose, witty, thoughtful, and compassionate. will and has been promptly serious when the time calls for it.

juliette has forced L to watch rocky horror with them so. many. times. it’s now their couple movie of sorts aha <3

juliette cannot STAND light. he’s such an arrogant bitch baby, so she insults and burns him constantly (which L… enjoys 👀 JFKSJFKSJDKSJS, HE LOVES THE FACT THAT I CAN DEFEND MYSELF AND THAT I’M NOT A DOORMAT)

it’s so interesting to listen to these two talk. cause like, L is formal, a bit oddly polite in his wording, and naturally uses long words here and there. juliette, on the other hand, is very casual in speech. she casually swears, she refers to others with “dude,” “bro,” and “man,” and uses some slang words here and there. the taskforce members gawk at the sheer contrast sometimes.

so juliette’s mainly goth, right?? misa introduces her to the fashion, and she fucking loves it. her usual goth color combo is hot pink and black!!

…buuuuuut, juliette likes fashion in general, so sometimes she wear “pretty in pink” ass y2k outfits, then at other times glam rock-y, then gritty type of clothing, then elegant, they girly, then—

Several people have expressed their admiration for L throughout the years, whether through television media or online text. L understands, he knows what he’s doing is, overall, having a positive effect on the world.

But. But. Despite it all, despite the countless compliments he’s gotten, he finds himself reading this sleep hazy one over and over again.

“I loved you from the moment that I saw you, you’re my hero, I believe in you. There’s nothing you can’t do. You make a difference in the world.

And you make all of the difference
in the world to me. ⸝⸝^ˬ^⸝⸝”

Why… is that? And why is his heart rate accelerated? Has he not been given a compliment in that long?

…No. That couldn’t be the case. He’s overheard the Taskforce members state their awe about L and his tactics whenever they’re on call. He felt the common gratitude he typically does and filed it away into the “I’m smart, I’m good at my job, I’m good for my cause, I’m useful” compartment of his brain. So what is it about this slurry of words that makes him so captivated, so—

His face… feels fuzzy. Why fuzzy? What does it mean? It’s such an odd sensation as well. It makes his cheeks feel a bit hollow, it makes him feel seen, more tangible, but it’s not uncomfortable. L places the letter down, fingers feeling light.

He considers all the angles. He’s gotten a compliment… his heart is racing (pitter patter, pitter patter), and his face feels strange and warm. And above all else, he can’t stop thinking about these strings of words.

Just then, L’s body filled with certainty. Of course. It should have been… obvious, in retrospect. But how could he have known before when this was rare?

L is taken aback and feels elated from Liz’s compliment. Perhaps even… giddy?

“Hmmmm…” He drops a few more sugar cubes into his coffee then stirs. He presses his thumb against his lip. “What an unexpected circumstance…”

He starts to dissect the passage that echoes in his mind.

“I loved you from the moment that I saw you”

L knew that was impossible. No one can ever fall in love with someone at first sight. That’s not how love works (he’s heard). Ultimately, this sentiment is used to signify that ‘yes, while it may not be true to have fallen in love with you when we first met, I sure wish it was true, for you.’

For him.

For… L.

Immediately, his eyes shot to the last sentence. He had no use to revisit the already known facts of sentence two and three. He notices his heart skip.

“And you make all of the difference
in the world to me. ⸝⸝^ˬ^⸝⸝”

L was fully aware at this point of Lizzie’s infatuation with him. That was no shock. However… which way did she mean this? Is it merely referring to the infatuation, or could she really… could L really impact someone’s life to this extent?

He’s not sure what that is like. Well, not really, anyways. L supposes, in a way, that Lizzie has altered his life in ways that are too overt to ignore. For the first time in his entire life, he has a friend, one who wasn’t aware of his genius and/or title. A person who liked him for… hm… he wasn’t sure what, but for some reason or other. They’ve spent time with him, or “hung out,” as she refers to it as. They’ve gone to the mall together, have watched countless movies, have talked about everything and anything. They’ve eaten sweets together, attending various café’s. And she agreed to this study with— for him. They agreed to this study for him, expanding his knowledge on this phenomenon that’s so commonly depicted in media.

Now that he thinks about it, Liz… never mentioned having any other friends. None. It simply never crossed his mind, other people, when they were together. (Hmmmm… together. He felt a twinge of happiness at the use of the word in regards to the two of them.) L halfheartedly considers if this line, then, implies that her world has changed due to the social contact, but he brushes it off just as quickly. No, it doesn’t fit, for he knew that Lizzie wasn’t the type to throw words around lightly (at least when it comes down to something serious).

So maybe… L has changed Lizzie’s world just by being him.

He takes a sip of his coffee. When the rim meets his lips, his motion ceases as he realizes the corners of his lips were curled. L… was smiling over this. He was smiling over Lizzie.

Quietly. He presses the cup to his lips. And proceeds to sip the entire contents of the sweet concoction in one go.

…Perhaps the thought of Lizzie making a difference in his life has more weight to it after all.

i think L not doing chores isn’t because he doesn’t know how, but because he’s rich and doesn’t give a fuck lol. y’know?? grew up in that rich ass household typa dealie, AND cleaning and cooking is one of the only things watari does for L. so L doesn’t have the need to do any of these things.

but at L’s core?? he’s a helper. he helps people he cares about. when juliette’s room is messy due to adhd to things that are out of place fading into the background, he sits in his usual gargoyle pose and helps. L doesn’t direct, however; he knows how annoyed it makes juliette to be directed in doing a task that she KNOWS how to do, and that, even tho it doesn’t appear this way on the surface, she has her own way of doing things.

so he cues and asks, mainly. “is there any significance to those clothes being in separate piles?”

(also, maybe L likes to watch juliette do domestic things, because he really hasn’t been around someone who does them so authentically. it’s not out of obligation, like how watari does… well, everything. when juliette does things, it’s real. she’s so alive, even when she’s at ease sweeping the floor.)

so when he sees juliette folding a blanket to put into storage, he immediately stands up and goes, “allow me to help, my love,” as he grabs ahold of one side of the blanket.

juliette just kind of,,, stares. with tinted cheeks. he chuckles before prompting a simple, adoring, “what?”

I MADE A WHOLE FANFIC (mentally 😔😔😞) about L and juliette spending christmas together, since the taskforce members are at home for the holidays and the case is slow right now anyways.

they do lots of christmas adjacent things. they bake cookies, decorate em (L eats all of them ahdkwjdksjsja), adjust ornaments on the christmas tree, listen to mars argo’s “pls don’t forget me” several times throughout the day (it’s like rickrolling from L’s perspective, since juliette starts playing it at random that day jsksjkdjsjdjaks)

so as i’ve said before in the lawliz introduction post (which you can find in my pinned post under read more), one of the things that draws L to juliette is that she’s unpredictable, right? and that juliette loves early 2000’s rock songs the most?

well… a part of this is that i haven’t mentioned yet is that, like lots of couples, L gets into rock music because of juliette ahdksjdjshdjs

LIKE i know the first thought assumption when it comes to the question of “what does this highly intelligent character like to listen to music wise?” is classical music, with a whole ass orchestra and all that, but i don’t think L would necessarily enjoy classical music. sure, he may like to pick it apart, try and pin down the patterns in its composition, but besides that, he doesn’t turn it on for personal enjoyment, y’know??

but rock music… it’s one of the top genres i know that is SO unpredictable with its formula. yeah, there is a general sound, but there’s still tons of variety in rock music.

so, much like how L enjoys the unpredictable aspect of juliette, he also genuinely enjoys rock music 🥹🥹🥹

plus i think the mental image of L listening to loud ass rock music while calmly sipping tea (like the screenshot below) is funny lol

a while ago, i wondered what L’s favorite color would be. i immediately imagined him answering juliette’s question with, “white.”

juliette scoffs in faux annoyance. “no no, i mean, OTHER than that?”

“black.”

“ANYTHING BESIDES MONOCHROME, L!!!!!!!!! >:O” they exclaim, genuinely frustrated now.

he finds her annoyance and frustration to be cute lol.

he eventually settles on blue (because of COURSE he has to!!), but that was only after being restricted away from monochrome colors. y’know??

when he inquires her about the same question in return, they go on and on.

“wellllllllll, my number one favorite color is pink, all kinds of shades!!! hot pink, standard pink, light pink, dusty rose, salmon pink, rose gold, pastel… all kinds!” they unintentionally reiterate again.

“then my second favorite color is purple, then dark indigo, apple green, and dark yellow!! ^∀^”

THEIR FAV COLORS ARE LITERALLY MONOCHROME (L’s) AND RAINBOW/VARIOUS COLORS (juliette’s).

L, on the surface, exudes maturity. he has to, he has to be on top of things, he has to keep his unblinking eyes on top of the wretched happenings in the world.

juliette, on the surface, can come across as very childish. she’s open with her feelings and emotions, even if those emotions are “disproportionate” to the thing at hand (ex. bouncing up and down at coming across something that’s cute in stores). she’s earnest and sincere, which is what draws so many people to them and breaks the ice immediately with her energy alone.

“very sunshiney x emo” is the FUNNIEST way to refer to L/L’s dynamic, i will now start using that when talking about it with friends ahdkshdksjajsja

L and juliette are extremely eccentric on their own, but in the opposite ways. so both ends of the spectrum in regards to eccentricity being in the same room??? oh, you KNOW it’s gonna bring some gawkable-moments-to-the-normies type of moments to the table.
