French poster artist and painter Adrien Barrère (1874-1931) designed over 200 posters for the cinema and the theatre. He was a medical student when he started and he made illustrative posters for the medical profession, nearly half a million of his most informative posters were sold to medical students. He has been compared with Toulouse Lautrec with his depictions of backstage life, but is said to be kinder in his depictions of that life than Lautrec was.
