ok everypony it is now 11pm and i am less sleepy so i will chatter about my oc idea. also @mnikhowozu hi :)

so my working name for him rn is adam white (bonus points if u can figure out the origin of these names. hint: consider some of my other characters names) but i will likely change at least the given name. i’m considering lucas but not sure, i just generally want something Classic European bc i feel like that’s what two mfs named James and Catherine would name their kid (bonus points if it’s biblical). as i’ve said i’m making the character so i can do tale of two wastelands (hopefully. if i can figure out the mod. haven’t tried yet and dk how it works so it might be complicated…) so obviously he starts as the lone wanderer

to contrast charlie (who has always dealt with barely contained rage and loathes his dad, blaming james for all the shit he had to go thru in the wasteland), adam is more forgiving to him. not that he doesn’t also have conflicting and negative feelings abt james, he does, but he also sees him as ultimately a Good Man doing things for the Bettering of Humanity. adam never had much ambition in the vault and was just kinda drifting along as he grew up, was probably gonna be a maintenance worker or something “basic”. he didn’t learn medicine from james because james never bothered to teach him and he never thought to ask to learn. BUT! later in the wasteland — most pointedly after james dies — he takes it on himself to become something of a doctor because he wants to Continue his parents’ Legacy. etc etc

i also have it in mind for him to wear a mask while traveling (think along the lines of the blastmaster helmet. except i’m actually thinking of something from the pitt i just don’t remember the name.) so just imagine this nervous 20 year old in full armor with an assault rifle comes running up to you after you were brutally beaten by a raider or something, one year post-project purity, and he’s like TRUST ME LET ME HELP IM A DOCTOR meanwhile he looks like an overblown raider boss

at his core he is a Coward and, again, not ambitious. chronically indecisive. he Wants to help but he does Not want to risk himself (though of course he does since it’s. kind of the nature of the games if ur playing a mostly-good character). this then leads him to just going along with mr. house when he gets to vegas, because he doesn’t want to rock the boat and, honestly, probably won’t even think to kill house. he has his own opinions, for sure, and he’s not a saint — the choices he does make still are bad at times. but generally, he takes the road of “what is the most helpful at large but also the easiest for Me”

also, i think the followers of apocalypse have a university in california or smth? isn’t that mentioned once or twice in fnv? not sure need to research. and also i’m aware it generally doesn’t really Match for the courier to be the lw but obviously i’m ignoring that for the sake of the mod. but, depending on whatever is going on there, the followers’ university is what i’m currently thinking of for why he went west, and he… idk, gets roped into courier work for money or for a relatively easy way to Help or something, and ends up caught up in new vegas politics

summer review? summer review

Story- 7/10. not bad by any means. im not super fond of horror movies, and im disappointed that they couldve had fujinon do more but chose not to, and other small ish gripes, but overall it wasnt bad. my favorite parts were probably emiya getting self conscious abt being called old by ilya indirectly (honestly. their sibling ish dynamic was so good and i actually liked main story emiya in this without having to redeem his writing w my own headcanons) and the whole shining/psycho reference sequence (tells bad end was so sad tho ;n; ), the door scene and the yu chan shower scene esp. like i said im not interested at all in the horror elements but they did a lot better at it than they couldve. xu fu cute too, pls become playable eventually

Free servant- 11/10. 100 percent u are my top choice for summer servant! yu chan is... a fave, she was my ticket pick last year after failing to come home on emperors gacha ;n; tbh i was worried free servant would be someone i didnt care for (most popular limited 5 star picks- tho next yr id love if it was guifei lol) but the initial announcement/trailer i was yeeting that it was yu chan! i like her dynamic in the story, her abilities, ect. some ppl take really weird (and delusional) interpretations of her dialogue, but the actual yu chan herself is wonderful. beautiful. amazing.

Gacha servant- 8/10. if i was to roll itd be on gacha 1, but thats nice also bc all the characters id rather not roll are on 2 and the ones id be more down to roll are on 1. maybe next yr ill try for bryn or ilya. this yr i spent all my quartz (dont ask how much..... regret emoji) on sigurd, who didnt come home. lanling and emiya are maxed out, diar, tamacat, and tolfy are +1 np, and vlad zerker is here, but. sorry bryn. pien face

Event gameplay- 7/10. nothing really bad here, just average gameplay. if i was to complain itd be abt that space ishtar fight, which might keep my yu chan at np4 but theres always next yrs rerun so. the day/night cycle’s a bit confusing at first but not hard once you get used to it.

Other- 8/10. id say introducing a new npc is neat, the thing w xu fu masquerading as the non player guda is a neat way to implement the meta. i hope theyre summonable, give mashu a friend! and theyd be neat too, as a silver archer. i also somewhat appreciate the skip over lb1 reps, gives me hope for summer salieri next year lol. ordinarily wouldve been mad at no silver costume but i dont mind, would rather have funny and good emiya + ilya dialogue over generic uninspired cu and emiya interaction (and emiya just being overbearing + everyone wants him like in every other thing), and lanling was great for being in the event as a friend for yu.

Overall- 7/10.

summer events are kinda. not the best but not the worst, with a slight lead towards the positive for how generous they are. esp considering this year, getting 6 new servants (+ a npc who isnt an awful fanfiction) is quite nice. i dont know if id rate it higher than the others, but it def has elements that are better than the others. the story felt more engaging than the previous ones, though the setting/horror tropes.... id prefer the vegas setting over that. now, a camping murder mystery (like. an actual good murder mystery not the travesty that was last yrs mystery event) id be super hyped for, but theres no shortage if u look to conan. here’s hoping for playable xu fu (along w the tactician cutie w the glasses and bird from lb3... and everyone from gudaguda... and louis...and olga... and def not bad fanfiction and the npcs from lb5.2)

A random thought: the first time i saw a feral ghoul in fo4 i literally got so scared i cried. like the graphics were TOO good and i wasnt expecting them to just GET UP like that even tho i knew they go dormant but it just startled me into tears. honestly my first feral encounter in any playthrough makes me jump but i just Did Not Like That 

An unpopular opinion: i think its super unfair that the lone wanderer gets shit on if they dont willingly fucking die because theyre literally like 19 when a bunch of grown ass adults expect them to walk into a chamber of radiation for The Good Of The Capital or whatever. idk im not saying its not brave or noble or anything for them to do it but i didnt think it was fair for the ending narration to drag the hell out of them for getting scared and not being able to go through with it. i mean in general i dont think pretty much anything that happened regarding the lone wanderer was fair because their DAD started all that shit and they didnt ask to be born. they were raised in a fucking vault, they dont know shit about the wasteland and theyre like 21 at MOST at the end according to the canon timeline and everyones like “do this dangerous thing for us you actual goddamn teenager! we’re like 40 and lived here our whole lives but you can do it right!” and im sitting here like wtf i just left high school and if thats not a metaphor for real life idk what is

Most badass character: well for 4 the obvious answer is hancock but as a companion i have to say preston fucking garvey and his god gun because regardless of what canon would imply as a COMPANION prestons never gotten hurt and sometimes ends up finishing fights before i even get there and hancock is a feeble old man with glass bones that needs 3 stimpacks an hour. in new vegas its like. boone TECHNICALLY but surprisingly arcade gannon is like lo key a goddamn beast bc u expect that shit from craig Eats Nails And Never Sleeps Or Smiles sniper copypasta come to life boone but when dr nerd takes out 3 raiders on his own before u even see them its like oh goddamn. but also grandpa bacon terrifies the absolute shit out of me. im not gonna fight him. he got set on fire thrown off a cliff and hes like 70 and i KNOW he could still destroy my whole ass if i got him mad so im not gonna try. idk what that man is made of but im p sure its 50% rage 50% jesus and i just dont want any part of it thanks

Pairing I am not a fan of: i dont like!! any pairing involving the legion! or maxson! im just tired of seeing them and i want them blacklisted from my life! but i also dont like m/f just in general as a personal pref, but esp with like…. legion/f!courier and shit. its got uncomfortable undertones. i dont like m/f!wanderer or m/f!courier or even m/f!sole when its an unnamed player character/intended self insert bc it makes me Dysphoric and feel skeeved out. but ill make an exception for garvey/f!sole if its my sole oc mags

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): theres so many characters that should have gotten more development but im p annoyed at how they like. HINT at pres stuff and then because of todd howard they dont go anywhere with it. im not exactly happy with in general how you dont rly get to talk to your companions that much. and then aside from that these games in general are notorious for giving u REALLY GOOD npcs that u can have 1 conversation with and then its like “ok now fuck off”. like ten of spades, bitter root, and jimmy in westside? like give them!! a sidequest or smthn!!! you cant just make me love a char and tell me to piss off!!! 

Favourite friendship: betsy + ten and m!courier + veronica are wlw/mlm solidarity
