synth shaun is a weird boy genius who sees people as creatures to observe but not in the horrific malicious way human shaun treats whisper. he's like a poorly socialized cat stuck in the body of an 11 year old boy with the mind of a 30-something phd student. he was commanded by Our Dear Father to restart the institute, complete with pre-programmed instructions but he thought the institute was boring so he just ignores it and builds tesla coils out of rusty cars and batteries. nat wright thinks hes a freakish dweeb who talks like a computer but shes his best friend. him and x6 think the water at kingsport tastes bad and so they get bottles from salem. hes scared to tell his mom that he knows he's a synth already because he doesnt want to break the facade of the perfectly normal and happy family she's trying to build. he knows she cries in nick's arms about x6 every night, he cant bear to make her cry about him. good afternoon

the beautiful perfect fallout 4 world in my head gives kellogg a wee bit of sympathy outside of the dead wife number 78029 thing. the reason he has synth shaun originally is because he felt bad for the kid and has some building resentment towards old shaun and x6. you work your ass off finding this guy as a baby and then raising him and continuing to do his organization's dirty work just for him to clone himself twice and replace you with the older clone of himself. there's some weird father-son flip flop fuckery happening there. kellogg feels entitled to shaun's attention because god damn it if it werent for me youd be stuck in a vault as a frozen foreverbaby. but also i rely on you to survive materially and cant really do anything about it so fuck you im taking the little version of you and throwing a tantrum in my shitty house in diamond city. you were better when you were 11 anyways you sick freak. so much fun to be had here

maybe one of the real reasons the commonwealth sucks in game is because there is essentially one major hub of social and economic activity in the entirety of boston and in order to get there you have to pretty much risk your life going through downtown.

like yeah bunker hill and goodneighbor exist but lets be real. diamond city is my go-to when im travelling because everything is just Right There. i have to load less new indoor areas in, all of the merchants are just kinda in a line, i dont have to guess who's gonna be there... from a worldbuilding perspective after the whole "mayor stabs a guy in front of her" shtick whisper isnt 100% fond of just strolling into goodnieghbor. bunker hill is inconvenient because of the rotating trader thing ([whisper voice] you're telling me i have to keep a schedule of other people's schedules?) so diamond city, if i were to stick with the base fo4 towns, would be the only place that seemed reliable to her.

also in amihth downtown isnt a total free for all. like. people live there. yeah theres gangs and feral ghouls and shit but its Livable for a pretty decent population of people. diamond city still is a massive place that people dream of living in (think how people often dream of living in new york or something insane like that) but the surrounding areas arent utter desolation and nothing but violence. its just so far from either of whisper's homes (she first lives in sanctuary before moving out to kingsport) so its less of a safety thing and more of a "its fucking january in an east coast city close to the fucking ocean. i am not trudging 5 miles to go pick up groceries when i could go less than a mile."

in whisper's canon, basically x6 was created as a shaun-clone like s9, but rather than as a child he's from like shaun's 30s.

With the successful completion of Project Button, we brought into the world the first child synth-- S9-29. Created in the image of the Institute's Father and current Director, this synth has exceeded all project expectations.

PROJECT CRONOS UPDATES

ENTRY 1 (8/30/2266)

Father has been pleased with the results from Cronos. The synth looks... strikingly like how i remember Father looking when he first took the directorate position. It's actually quite unnerving. Doesn't help that there was a malfunction with the pigmentation of its eyes... so instead of a normal dark brown, it's got these steely grey irises. I hate when it stares at me.

ENTRY 2 (9/11/2266)

After just a week of experiments and trainings, 'Cronos' has already exceeded all expectations. Its durability, stamina, and perception are all miles ahead of even our best coursers.

Father is quite enamored by it. I think it's strange, how attached he's getting. Is it narcissistic to be constantly thinking of a younger version of yourself? Maybe nostalgic? Either way, he might have a new right hand synth. I almost feel bad for X4, getting its spot taken by such a newbie.

ENTRY 3 (11/14/2266)

'Cronos' completed the courser exam this afternoon and passed. With flying colors, of course. It was given the designation of X6-88, in order to fit in with the others. What a shame-- I always thought Cronos was a neat title.

I get that Father enjoys its company... but he's been a bit too lax with its behavior, in my opinion. Sometimes I think he's starting to lose his mind, as he's aging. 20 years ago, Father would never have even thought of letting a synth in his living quarters. Now, he's getting up in arms about his favorite courser needing a new matrix. What has he come to?

the more i think about shaun as a character concept in relation to the rest of the world i reimagine the more fun he becomes. fascist old cancer man incapable of compassion or kindness makes robot copies of people he could have cared about had he learned to be a human being. oh what's that, our best aboveground merc who also raised me is now like 65 and not wanting to work anymore? well just make him again but younger and with all of his memories and send him back to work ahaha. also i want kids so i can continue my reign of terror across generations but reproduction is dirty so just uhhh..., make me again but cooler and more deadly. yeah. and then do it again. this wont backfire

i need to combine my brain with one of those people who thinks that like. novels are only good if there's a perfectly exlplained unnecessarily complex magic system in which the reader is not even able to make any assumptions because the book is 45 percent explaining the rules of the world (anything less makes the book essentially unreadable). maybe then i can like. level my shit out and complete an actual story instead of just like. fumbling a bunch of random characters and motivations around in my head for a little and not giving a fuck about plot or world whatsoever because that shit is boring

i wish you could pin more than one post but i also want people to know that my knowledge of fo4 extends only as far as how i specifically do my runs. so i dont know jack shit about the east coast BoS or the institute outside of the bare minimum and that may reflect in my posts. i also have never used any other companions besides nick, x6, and dogmeat. i dont claim to be a lore master because in all honesty some of the lore just does not interest me or matter to me and the story i make for whisper beyond them Existing and causing a problem. so if i say something off-canon thats why. because i literally do not care about either of the canon factions outside of the purpose they serve For My Character Specficially
