I see a lot of people EVERYWHERE saying that they are tired of Miquel which, you know, I totally get and is 100% valid BUT, and it is a big but, what Skam España is doing here is not just important but necessary. I'm probably gonna get a lot of hate for what I'm about to say but Skam España is making everyone who had Noorhelm as their OTP realize how toxic and even abusive that relationship was.
We liked William because we knew him, because he was portrayed as someone desirable because we saw the internal struggle Noora want through in order for her to admit she liked him, the show used the very overused trope of "good girl - bad boy" to make us think that it was okay, to make us ship them when William blackmailed her to go out with him, blamed her when she thought she'd been raped by his brother, lied to her, manipulated her, treated her like crap but at the end hugged her and wrote an essay for her so all was forgiven.
Now in Skam España we have Nora and Alejandro, who at the beginning of the season had more or less the same background as Noora and William had when her season came arround. But there were major differences, Alejandro never needed a push to admit where he'd been wrong, always asked for forgiveness and said he was sorry and then never repeated the mistake, he never took advantage of a situation and always respected Nora's wishes, a NO was always a NO. Nora is also a different Noora from what we've seen in the OG and other remakes, she told Viri she liked Alejandro and asked her, maybe not for permission, but for her opinion, she was never gonna do something that'd hurt her friend.
It wouldn't make sense then that someone like Alejandro behaved the same way William did because they're not the same person, maybe they got introduced the same way, have the same role, but they don't act or think the same. Alejandro is not manipulative, he respects boundaries, he tries to be understanding, he's brutally honest and a bit of a mess. It wouldn't make sense for him to suddenly start acting like William did, but the show runners desperetly wanted to tell the story about how a very feminist girl can get sucked into an abusive relationship without even realizing, they wanted to tell a story about SA, but they didn't want the message to be that if he doesn't physically abuse you, is hot, good looking, white, rich and says he loves you very much you should stay with him because there's chemistry. So they had to create a new character, and in comes Miquel who has all of the not so clean behavior William had, he's controlling, possessive, manipulative, jealous... And, because we can compare him to Alejandro and the show has made us ship Nora and Alejandro since it began, we don't like him, he has the same behavior William had but here's fraimed as NOT OKAY. So we don't think is Okay.
To sum up, all of this is to say that yes I get you don't want to see Miquel but we have to see him in order to understand how it's happening, maybe they wanted us to feel this way, like we only get clips from Miquel because he's successfully alienating Nora from her world and shifting it to be all about him as much as he can,so that's why we only get Miquel, because that's all she does.
So, if you're tired of this storyline check yourself, did you enjoy the other remakes? Were you aware of this? If the answer is yes, that's valid, I've liked them too, in spite of myself, if you don't like it for any other reason, that's okay as well, if what you wanna see is Alejandro, don't worry, he's coming, but I'm guessing his role will have a lot to do with the aftermath of this mess of a relationship so we have to power through it.
On the other side, I think we won't see Miquel as much from now on and it is good because I don't like him and bad because I'll hate to see Nora in pain.
