DTP2017

So, unless you don’t know me or you’ve been hiding under rock, you should know I’ve been doing a dance training program since April and it just ended a while ago (25/08/017) and I am SAD!

So I’ve been dancing since I was 4 or something. I’ve spent so many hours dancing. Yet, I still felt like I had so much more to improve on. So taking this dance course was important to me to at least feel like I’m a decent dancer (yes, i’d say that up till May, I wouldn’t say I was a decent dancer, despite dancing about more than three quarters of my life.)

Although there were ups and downs, like me hurting my left ankle and left big toe (twice!), causing me to miss about a month of training altogether, I’ve grown so much as a dancer and as a performer. Not to mention how much more comfortable i am with improv and contemporary, couldn’t have done it without this program. I’ve, without a doubt, improved alot (to say the least) from dancing every weekday and i’m really glad I was given the opportunity to do this course.

Back story: I didn’t actually plan to do DTP until after Romeo and Juliet (Sept 2016). I knew I was going to take a break after SAM cos um i was dying from tiredness. Maybe only in November did I start thinking about doing the course and I already had like a back up plan if i didn’t get through DTP auditions (yes it’s possible to not get in.)

I’m so thankful to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey.

sherissa actually asked me if i wanted to join during romeo and juliet which was what actually made me think of it

cheryl for not making me feel like i was going into this alone

teacher js and ms rachel for taking a chance and for never giving up on me

ms wan wan and ms low for understanding how tired sherissa and I were everytime we went for class HAH

my friends who did and did not come for my showcase for supporting me for doing what i loved

people who kept me in prayer whenever i was injured or tired, physically, mentally or emotionally

To my DTP mates (if they even read this LOL idc this is for my own memory anyways)

Alice : I didn’t really know you in Dance Space much but I could see how much you have improved since the first time I saw you dance. You’ve become a better dancer, a better performer, even a better person, in fact, throughout the few months i’ve got to spend with you at DTP. As you head off to your next phase in life, I hope you will never neglect your passion for performing.

Cheryl : I don’t even know where to start with you. You’ve been with me since the start of my cringy dancing days, all my dance related issues (you know what i’m talking about lol). I thank you for always being there to support me whenever i needed you. But you as a dancer, I never saw you really dancing before this program. But I can see how hard you’ve worked and it has definitely paid off. Here’s to our future, wherever it may take us.

Chung Teng : You’re such a stable dancer and of course, a dancer with AMAZING memory! You are such a sweet person and although you don’t say much, i do feel like we had a connection through our few short months knowing each other. I’ve seen you grow from a student to a performer through this short program and i can’t wait to see what you take on in the future.

Jessica : Even since your cupid days, you were always one of the dancers i looked up to. As Juliet, i told you before our first show how i wished i could dance like you. Dancing alongside you in DTP has been nothing but a blessing. As you continue your dance journey, may you continue to inspire those around you like how you’ve inspired me.

Kylie : Your courage and humility has shown me that it’s never too late to do something you set your mind to and if you have the passion, you will succeed. You always thanked me for helping you with technique but i thank you for being a big sister and such an inspiration to me and the other girls.

Madeline : It’s clear to see that your body was made to dance, you’re tall with beautiful long legs! Through this program, I’ve seen you improve by using your body’s potential to the fullest. You no longer stop in between dances which, you could say, is a sign of perseverance, something you’ve learned along the way. I hope you continue to persevere in any situation you’re in, as dancing in a new place is never going to be easy, but i know you can do it!

Sherissa : I’m so glad you were able to join DTP in the end! I do believe our group would not be complete without any one of us, including you! I’m so thankful to get to know you more through this program and to have someone who is going through what i’m going through (with adv 1 and all) too. But above all the stress we had to face together, i wouldn’t have it any other way.

Yee Way : You started DTP with a lower technique than most of us but still managed to pick up everything that was given by the end of the program. This comes to show that you can do ANYTHING if you work hard enough and want it. You have improved so tremendously and everyone would agree with me on that!

The program has been short-lived but will live forever in my heart and memory. I am so grateful. Thank God for His favor upon me! Excited for what's next and what He has in store.
