(Post: 2/2) There are many cockfighting rings throughout Bali. And there is an exceptionally big one around the northern part that plays host to an Asian Invitational. Folks from different parts of Asia bring big money to gamble and prized fighting roosters to compete. . (1) Defeated roosters are carried to be sent for cleaning and plucking. A Taji (knife), is tied to the claw to end fights fast. One of the villagers shared a story of how a man got cut by a Taji. He needed 40 stitches. . (2) A villager tasked to clean the dead cocks for consumption. . (3) The villagers do not waste the meat of the roosters. they are brought home for the evening’s dinner. (Post: 1/2) I got a chance to witness cockfighting during my trip to Bali. It is a huge tradition of the Balinese people that dates back thousands of years and a valued pastime of villagers there. It was a culture shock for me due to its violent nature. Simply put, it can get pretty brutal for those who can’t stomach it. But in respect, it is a blood sport that runs deeper than just gambling and cheers. . (1): Villagers gather in a mini stadium awaiting for fights to begin. Bets are made with friends and family. Smiles and laughter while the chickens are prepared for their fight. . (2): Chickens are egged on to fight each other. (Pun not intended.) The crowds looks on as their prized fighters come face to face. . (3): A fight begins and it usually last for about a minute before a victor emerges. .
