#ok Rick is trying way too hard here #like I think that this would upset Steve should be common sense #I’m trying to think of how to justify this portrayal of Rick here #in Rick’s first meeting with Steve he had assumed that Steve was mentally ill #because Steve fresh from waking up from the ice was messed up and mistook Rick for Bucky #since then I think Rick’s formed a very idealized image of Steve #he’s called him the greatest man he’s ever met #so I think Rick is just not thinking things through because he’s so desperate to integrate himself into Steve’s life #he wants to security of being Steve’s partner #he wants the role (and love!) that the Bucky who Steve talks about and mourns had #and he doesn’t fully comprehend to extent to which Steve is traumatized #possibly particularly in contrast to how messed up Rick’s time with Bruce was #where Bruce was more overtly and unavoidably mentally ill #but Rick was still in denial about how bad that situation was for him because of his loyalty to Bruce #so he didn’t see removing himself from that situation as an option and so needed to justify it #and now Rick doesn’t want to admit that he’s attached himself to another man with issues #or can’t see them because they’re inherently less destructive than the Hulk who kind of beats everyone in that department #marvel #steve rogers #rick jones #my posts #comic panels
