Love that @bishopclimbingrangers provide the community with these very helpful updates. No doubt they diminish disappointment, are epic-preventing, and keep folks safe. 🙏🏼 #Repost @bishopclimbingrangers ・・・ Wow! What a wet start to the year! Thankfully, we are finally getting back to that familiar Bishop winter weather. With full sun and daytime highs creeping back towards 50 by Sunday, expect the Tablelands to be popping. Many other areas are snowed out for the time being. We are looking forward to serving some of that delish Black Sheep Coffee on Saturday from 8-10am at the Pit.  Other fun events at the Pit Campground this weekend include:  -Night Sky Program Saturday from 6-6:45pm (see post from @esiaonline) -Plein Air art meetup Sunday from 11am-3pm (see our post from 1/15 for details). Current Conditions: ❄️Buttermilk Country❄️: The main area is still covered in 2.5-3 feet of snow. Expect the Milks to be snowed out for at least a few weeks (maybe longer). 🌞Owens River Gorge❄️: The best access to the ORG right now is the approach from Lower ORG parking. This approach is plowed to the power plant but still has patches of snow and ice in spots. The Central approach is under 4-6" of snow. The top of the Upper ORG is under 9-10" of snow, with a bunch of snow in the approach gulley.  ❄️Pine Creek❄️: Most areas are under at least 4 feet of snow. ⚠️The road is currently closed at Rovana. 🌞Tablelands💧: A lot of sunny routes are dry now, but expect small amounts of snow, water, and ice in fully shaded areas. The ice caves area in the Sads is still flooded past Shizaam. If you are planning to hop on Beefcake or Aquatic Hitchhiker, bring a snorkel for the first few feet of the problem😆. #tablelands #bishop #ESIA #sierranevada #bishopclimbingrangers #easternsierra #sierraforever #publiclands #educate #inspire #explore #educateinspireexplore https://www.instagram.com/p/CnnsbuCrcfVM_w_oFWNgExCFBJSasOBp6rBIWk0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Grateful to @bishopclimbingrangers for modeling genuine stewardship for the land. They offer creative ways to keep your pups in range plus my all time favorite pro: the little pink tricam! Little pink tricam Who do I love thee? Let me count the ways! #Repost @bishopclimbingrangers ・・・ As a community, climbers love the Eastern Sierra. The climbing, camping, and scenery are all world-class. Help us to protect the area’s iconic plant: Sagebrush. 2 Ways you can help: Keep crash pads within delineated areas at the Happys, Sads, Buttermilks, and any other local climbing area. Refrain from tethering your dogs to plants at the crag, which causes damage🐶. The Sage here is fragile and often looks dead but will spring to life with new growth after precipitation🌧. Alternative place to tether your dog: The Rocks! Pics 2-6 show a few simple gear anchors: Cams, Nuts, and Tricams (which can act as a Cam or a Nut). Place the gear in a crack in solid rock and use anywhere from 1 to 3 bomber pieces to tether your dog. On a budget? Tricams are relatively inexpensive, versatile, and fit into tight spots that cams will not. Ask a friend for hand-me-downs: Your trad-stoker friend probably has an extra set of cobweb-covered Tricams looking for a new home 🕷. As always, be considerate of others: don’t place anchors on existing problems or cultural sites. #pinktricam #triharder #traddadz #tradmommy #rockclimbing #bishop #easternsierra #buttermilks #happyboulders #dontcrushthebrush https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmj60YaPjw-67sRrUkUNaBG6DzOhpYCNGU3T4s0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Buttermilk Road and the Bishop area are a mess as a result of ongoing weather intensities. Not a day to be out there, at least with a vehicle. A good alternative is to head to town and curl up with a hot cocoa (or other beverage of choice) and support one of Bishop’s many fine establishments. The rocks have been there for eons… they’ll still be there, more or less when the land dries out. Hey! Let’s be mindful out there folks! Love these places, but please don’t love them to death! #Repost @bishopclimbingrangers ・・・ We've seen an unfortunate amount of resource damage after these big storm events. Not all of this damage was from the rain and snow... These atmospheric rivers brought an unusual amount of precipitation to the Eastern Sierra. We welcome this as it will help fill reservoirs and nourish vegetation. Unfortunately, many roads, especially non-paved surfaces, have seen extensive damage from flooding and washouts. There is resource damage in the Tablelands from drivers creating their own paths to avoid driving over these rutted and flooded areas. In the Eastern Sierra, sagebrush, grasses, and other native plants can take years, sometimes decades, to grow to a small height. We need your help in caring for these areas. If a road looks too damaged to drive on, it is best to go back and recreate elsewhere. Do not create new roads or expand current ones. Pic 1: Notice the deep washouts right of the red line. Everything to the left of the line is a recently formed impact. Multiple drivers have driven over vegetation in order to avoid the ruts.  Pic 2: In order to access dispersed camping in the Tablelands, multiple drivers avoided the flooded road and created their own. Vehicle tracks are well over 100 meters in length, and many plants and vegetation were squashed. We always recommend staying at a designated campground such as the PV Pit, which helps keep human impacts contained. #dontcrushthebrush #publiclands #protectpubliclands #tablelands #bishop #leavenotrace #lnt https://www.instagram.com/p/CoBj98er2ELm_ANYNG_DGwaQw4OtwjwSNachtI0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Great opportunity to have some trail work fun and give back if you’re in the Bishop area April 10th and/or 11th. #Repost @bishopclimbingrangers ・・・ !!!Hey Everyone!!!! We are looking for 8-10 volunteers to help us with a trail work project in the Buttermilks! The slope along the river crossing to Dales Camp/Checkerboard is eroding away and flushing silt into the river. We are working with the Access Fund on April 10 & 11 to do restoration work and improve the access trail. We are looking for some friendly folks to help us put in a hard day’s work moving heavy rocks and delineating social trails. You don’t have to sign up for both days, even one day of work is great! Thanks for helping us out and the greater climbing community in improving climber access and working to preserve our beloved Buttermilks. https://www.instagram.com/p/CNJ6_OvDSrnwWWm0_s7uzriIOp42RW9buL-7XQ0/?igshid=12ya6m9rmeqzs

So grateful we have climbing rangers in Bishop. Personally, I’d characterize them not as LEOs but as roaming master educators and land stewards. Keeping Bishop climbing from inadvertently (usually) being loved to death. Thank you! #Repost @bishopclimbingrangers ・・・ Want to know more about the changes in the 2020 Climbing Ranger season and what we are up to day to day? Under current conditions, no one should be going anywhere; this demonstrates how much we care about one another. When we can return to beloved places, try hard to educate yourself about the ways to prevent our lands from becoming “loved to death.” Big thanks to @bishopclimbingrangers for their stewardship and providing education! #Repost @bishopclimbingrangers ・・・ Just your friendly neighborhood climbing rangers fixing up some social trails at the Buttermilks. There have been some problems in the Birthday area where there were some new trails created to save 6 feet of walking. Please help us keep the trails neat by doing the following: 1. Use the established trails 2. Delineate established trails as you’re walking if you see some rocks have moved out of place 3. Please do not cut trails and create a “new trail” https://www.instagram.com/p/CIe7T7fjOaxzjIR8y7fsiArwYO6AthvUV92Cyk0/?igshid=5jl6pfkavt5
