One thing I love about the Black Sails fandom is y’all know how to write a damn textpost. I’ve read some meta commentary from you guys and every single one is thought provoking and makes me obsessed with the show all over again. And hearing everyone share their unique perspective and subtle themes they notice/obsess over brings me joy.

Well jon is a host for some kind of a being that i dont remember the name of right now (not the Lonely), so he becomes the host and learns horrible truths about the world? He finds love, with Martin, Martin stabs him so jon is dead. They both become sad and depressed because there is an apocalypse going on. I never saw anything about Martin dying and i have no idea how tma ends. Do they stop the apocalypse by sacrifing jon? Who knows? You like stories with bad endings so maybe the all die and the planet explodes

Rusty quill gaming: well a poor little meow meow is someone who is sad and depressed and does questionable things, sooo he is like that xd You told me something about him, was he a spy or collaborator for the dragons and then later he became a double spy? And he was conflicted because he fell in Love (with zolf?), but didn't want to accept IT because he thought he didn't deserve it

The most important theme is FREEDOM, tis a pirate show, and love, forbidden love, and something about narratives, who gets to tell the stories, write history, i think i saw a textpost like that

I was going to write that this is cruel and i dont know anything about untameds story but i remembered that lan xichen locks himself in his room beacuse his friend was killed and disgraced (Jin g-something with the hat and a dot between the eyebrows). It was the twink with the fan (a Nie) who proved Jin g-something's scheming and murdering and got revenge for his brother. Lan zhan got promoted to his brothers position and i think wei wuxian got pardoned and forgiven or something. The main plot is the funny hat Jin's upward mobility and the dead people he made along the way, isn't it?

I hope i didn't do too bad because i know you told me about some of these🤭

the thing that black sails does exceptionally well, both from personal experience and from reading through liveblogs, is making you care for a character just before they’re about to die. 

like personally i never liked vane or teach much. i know loads of people grow to hate eleanor through s3 & 4. i know some who don’t particularly like miranda. yet ALL of these deaths are SO impactful?? 

could be argued that miranda’s death is a bit of a cheat since it’s so sudden, but  don’t think so. most people i’ve seen actually sit with it for episodes after, suddenly remembering her and getting a little sad, in spite of whatever dislike they may have had of her. and i’ve seen SO many reactors who vehemently hate Eleanor in the later seasons, and yet when she dies they’re like oh no i’m SAD? 

both vane and teach’s deaths shook me to the core. i genuinely did not like teach (GREAT character, and woof Ray Stevenson does a killer job), and  only begrudgingly respected vane at the very very end. and obviously it’s the set up of the deaths, with the speech and the brutality of the keelhauling, but i think it says something about the incredible writing too, where i’m like i don’t like these men but fuck you if you kill them on any other terms than their own.
