Hey! I was thinking about something and wanted to ask: What do you think of calls for GOOD Slavic representation and Slavophobia being shoved aside (mainly by POC) as being unimportant because "you're just white and already have enough rep", when Slavs of all white people should get the rep. Slavs and Eastern Europeans are usually represented in negative ways. Some examples of movies and TV that are guilty of this other than spy movies are:

Taken and Hostel - Stereotype: "Eastern European S*x Trafficker". Taken, one of the most blatant pieces of propaganda. Basically "Big Strong Eagle Daddy American saves his Beautiful Damsel Daughter from Those Savage Barbaric Albanian Perverts", and Hostel. Hostel is "The American Men Get Tortured by Slovaks", and Slovak people called it out. Albania's government had to make signs showing how nice Albania actually looked to try and fix their bad reputation.

Orphan - Stereotype "Eastern European Killer". Esther is revealed to be Estonian, which is Baltic, which while not Slavic is still Eastern European. She's a killer in a kid's body who manipulates people and even tries to SEDUCE AN ADULT MAN. Ironically, Estonia is closer to Finnish culture than Slavic/Russian culture.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? The Tale of the Nightly Neighbors: Not really a stereotype. Also implied antisemitism too. The main characters are a brother and sister, and their new neighbours from Ukraine are sus. The sister believes them to be vampires (which turns out to be true). The problem is how she talks about Ukraine and Eastern Europe when trying to convince her brother the truth. She's like "Ukraine is around those other places. Hungary, Russia, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, Transylvania". The neigbours are also implied to be Jewish with the surname Braun.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch episode Date witj Destiny. This one is more subtle, and I don't think this had malicious intent as it should be noted, Harvey, one of the recurring characters and Sabrina's boyfriend, is Slovenian-American. But this episode is still kinda sus. Sabrina's dating another man at this point and he gets a business job in the Czech Republic. But Sabrina seems to have a hatred and bias against Czech people. She spends the entire episode trying to keep Josh (the man) away from Prague, she's like "oh with that guy Vojtek Kreszowski" or something, and she makes his trip their miserable. Makes the hotel staff rude, makes the room a sty, to the point where he says it's like he's a POW.

Another subtle one most people don't get. Sixteen Candles is notorious for Long Duk Dong, but a quick and often unnoticed discrimination is there too. the heroine's dad , when talking about her sister's boyfriend, says "we're glad she's not marrying an oily Bohunk". Bohunk is an offensive term for a Hungarian person, so he hates Hungarians, and the boyfriend is Hungarian-American.

Or they get erased (like the new MH G3, despite what people say "Draculaura's still Romanian" when it's clear she's not, "the accents were stereotypical" when Romanians and Russians didn't care, "Abbey wasn't Russian" when she was, with her family's names, as well as being okay with mixed Drac and Clawdeen but drawing the line at Abbey, or the Netflix Witcher getting rid of all the Polish influence from the original books, and even the author calling out how they handled his story and characters).

Just wanted to know what you thought of all of this, and how Slavs get called "racist" for talking about Slavophobia and why they deserve rep even when they clarify they're not trying to make POC seem less important

I think it's pretty shitty ngl. It's hard to put into words, but like....One group's representation shouldn't matter more than the other & treating them that way is not a good thing, but it seems like some people really want to push that crap. They should all have the chance to be shown on screen.

It's kinda goofy how they dismiss Slavs wanting better rep as "oh you're just white you HAVE rep already" considering how the Irish (you know, mostly fair-skinned people) weren't even considered the same as whites for a long ass while. I forgot where I saw this, but back in the 40s, there were legit signs at workplaces saying shit like "Asians/Irish/Blacks need not apply."

The Irish weren't even considered as white for a long ass time, so like, what makes these mfs think Slavs are even considered the same?

Rooster Guitar [FICTOID]

The band needed a new guitar player, one who could play rooster guitar.

Their old rooster guitar player, a bandy legged eighty-year-old from Saskatchewan, did them the supreme disservice of dropping dead on-stage in mid-performance.

“Bad enough he didn’t finish the gig,” said front man Kwato Sneely, “but now fans expect someone else to die at each performance.”

“Long as it ain’t me,” said Bebop Bohunk, the band’s porcupine percussionist. 

“Why replace him at all?” Gretchen Dugelmeister a.k.a. Gretch the Kvetch asked.  “A three way split is better than a four way split, right?  Right?”

Gretch played bullfrog bass harmonica and supplied backup vocals, which is to say she’d guide the roadies’ equipment van as it backed up to the loading ramp of whatever venue they played.  She also was currently Kwato’s main squeeze after he out-lived the band’s original founder, Snoozy McDonnel.

McDonnel possessed the good sense to get run over by a major label’s party limo and to avoid a lawsuit, the label signed McDonnel’s bandmates.

“Nix,” said Kwato.  “We need a roster guitarist.  The band sounds thin without one.”

“Hey, I know a hamster hummer…” Bebop started to say but Kwato cut him off.

“Not an adequate replacement for a rooster guitar.”

“Howzabout you play roster guitar?” Gretch asked.

“Can’t,” said Kwato.  “I’m already covering on oyster triangles.”

“So I guess we’re gonna hafta audition some new talent,” Bebop said.

And so they did.

They called an audition but they didn’t like the first one, or the next two, or the next four, and they really hated the eight after that.  Pretty soon the alley behind the rehearsal hall was crowded with rooster guitarists of varying low quality plus a few kitten philosophers who hoped to fake it.

The band waded through all the dreadful wannabes before sinking their heads in their hands and wondering if maybe they should just abandon the idea and become a trio.

There came a knock at the door.  The band excitedly looked up, hoping against hope for some miraculous savior but saw only the hall landlord pointing angrily at his watch. 

“Five minutes!” he yelled.  “Five minutes then kaput!”  He slammed the door as if to punctuate his order.

The band looked at one another.  “So…give up music or play as a trio without a rooster guitarist?” Kwato asked.

“I’ve heard you,” the landlord yelled from the other side of the door.  “I wouldn’t call it music!”

Autobio

I really don't see myself as someone who is important enough to warrant an autobiography. I mean, I have never been famous or done anything of note, so it hasn't occurred to me to write such a thing. But I want my kids to know their history.

I recently found out that my 11th greatgrandfather came to America on the Mayflower. So, just for the heck of it, I googled John Howland, who is the gentleman in question.

So it appears that I am cousins with all of the famous people at the top of this image. I admit, I am kind of in awe of this information and actually looked it up on Family Search. One of my cousins, Joseph Smith, Jr. was the founder of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, who lived in Navoo, Illinois and was murdered by a lynch mob in Carthage. Talk about religious persecution.

Ira Joseph Earl was also a prominent member of the LDS in Las Vegas, Nevada. He built the first Mormon Church in Las Vegas. I had never heard of him but I'm betting he left behind lots more cousins for me.

I know my kids aren't very interested in looking at the details but I'm hopeful that this will give them a place to start if they ever do become interested in their past.

I know my mom always wanted to claim Irish heritage, but, sorry Mom, I'm looking at your history. Impressive as it is, there doesn't seem to be any Irish ancestors. I stopped at John Howland, who was born in Fenstanton, Huntingdonshire, England, a small town north of London. I was kind of surprised to find that he came as an indentured servant, but that just reminds me of how strong he was, not only to have made the decision to sell his servitude to get to the free world, but to have made the voyage across the Atlantic on the Mayflower. In the future, he served an executive assistant and personal secretary to Governor John Carver.

I guess it makes me happy to know that I have roots, as if I didn't know I did prior to this. My grandmother on my dad's side described herself as a "Bohunk," but look for a map of Bohemia and it's unlikely you will find much. But now I know her father was born in Prague, Bohemia, Austria so I have an area to consider. But that's where that story stops.

So, both my parents' families came here as immigrants. I guess coming her in 1620 makes one less of an immigrant than in 1870. Or maybe it was because John Howland spoke the King's English and Frantisek didn't speak English at all. But you can be sure that Frank worked hard to take care of his family and passed that sense of obligation down through the family line.

I really think I got the best of both families. Oh, yeah, and I'm the only one still living, so there's that.

(When the Barries died, Barry Syx didn’t inherit anything of material worth. He wasn’t considered enough of a person to make use of it. But he got his brothers’ belongings, and some of One’s more “useless” items, including the storybooks. When he realized the characters weren’t, in fact, all called Barry, he cried because Barry One lied to him, and then he cried again because he loved them enough to make the stories special for them and now he’s gone and all his brothers are gone and Nyne betrayed them-)

Na tomto místě vznikla nejprve tvrz, z níž se stal posléze hrad, který měl svojí velikostí vévodit celému okolí, z čehož také obdržel následně název, což dosvědčuje prof. Antonín Profous ve své knize "Místní jména v Čechách. Jejich vznik, původní význam a změny. Díl III. M-Ř":

První zmínka o Rýzmburku tedy pochází z výše uvedené citace teprve z roku 1319 a je spojena s Albertem z Rýzmburka, který byl zmiňován v letech 1319-1346 a podle profesora Augusta Sedláčka byl bezpochyby totožný s Albertem, jenž seděl na Vřešťově a držel rovněž třebešovské zboží. V letech 1358-1371 náleželo rýzmburské zboží s hradem nejspíše Peškovi a Mladotovi ze Stračova. Peškův syn Beneš z Rýzmburka držel v roce 1395 Rýzmburk i Stračov, na nichž zapsal svému strýci Beneši Krčínskému 1 200 kop grošů. Roku 1405 byl rovněž pánem na Hořičkách, jež získal po svém strýci Mladotovi. O 10 let později prodal úrok na rýzmburském zboží kvardiánovi a klášteru v Hradci Králové a v roce 1417 věnoval své manželce Anně 250 kop na tvrzi a poplužném dvoře Rýzmburku a městečku Žernově. Krátce nato zemřel. V letech 1426-1427 je zmíněn jako držitel rýzmburského zboží Oldřich z Černčic a po něm roku 1432 Arnošt z Kácova. V roce 1456 držel Rýzmburk Jan Zajíc z Házmburka, který si na něm vyprosil odúmrti. Roku 1487 byl koupen pro děti zemřelého Jana Adršpacha z Náchoda (psaného rovněž jako Abršpacha), zejména Petra, jenž se zadlužil tak, že všechny statky pustil v roce 1527 rukojmím. Tito prodali rýzmburské panství roku 1534 Janovi z Pernštejna, od něhož se v roce 1544 dostalo Bernartu Žehušickému z Nestájova, který hrad obnovil. Po smrti jeho roku 1563 a jeho strýce Jana v roce 1564 následoval jako držitel rýzmburského panství Janův bratr Hertvík, jenž občas bydlíval na rýzmburském hradě se svou manželkou Bohunkou z Hustířan a zemřel roku 1578. Po něm se Rýzmburk dostal jeho sestrám Mandaléně, manželce Adama Úlibského z Újezdce a z Kounic, Alžbětě, manželce Adama Bohdaneckého z Hodkova, a Lidmile, manželce Čertorejského z Čertorej, a to smlouvou ze 6. dubna 1579. Asi o rok později ho za díl obdržela výše zmíněná Mandaléna Úlibská z Újezdce. Její jmění se však postupným rozprodejem ztenčovalo a v roce 1589 prodala hrad Rýzmburk s pivovarem, poplužním dvorem, mlýnem, pilou, olejnou a oborou, městečkem Žernovem a Červenou Horou a vsemi Všeliby, Stolínem, Mstětínem, Vískou a Olešnicí Bedřichovi z Újezdce a z Kounic a na Kamenici, jenž roku 1591 postavil u hradu pro svého kuchtíka a lokaje 3 zděné chalupy. O 4 roky později byl Rýzmburk postoupen Vilému z Talmberka. Jeho bratr Jan prodal Rýzmburk 12. dubna 1601 Zikmundu ze Smiřic, poručníku Albrechta Václava Smiřického, a to za 8 000 kop grošů českých. Roku 1614 koupil Martin Hanušů od Jana Suchého „zahradu s kusem pole, jenž vinice slove“ za 47 zlatých míšeňských, čímž vznikla usedlost čp. 2. Po připojení Rýzmburku k náchodskému panství se přestala vrchnost zajímat o jeho osud. Jeho stav v roce 1628 byl popsán takto: „Zámek Rysmburk od kamene vystavený, však pro neobývání na něm od množství let pospustlý jest.“ V té době jsou zde zmíněni Adam Vrabec (čp. 3) a Martin Vondruška (čp. 4). Tehdy při zámku Rýzmburku a na Skalce platili 4 osedlí o sv. Jiří 41 grošů a 1 denár a o sv. Havlovi 56 grošů a 1 denár úroků. Roku 1638 byl Rýzmburk vypleněn císařským vojskem a v roce 1641 vypálen. Od roku 1687 sloužil jako zdroj kamene. Na počátku 18. století se odtud vozil kámen i na stavbu zámku v Ratibořicích a byl použit rovněž na stavbu mnoha okolních statků. V roce 1739 zde bylo podle urbáře 5 chalupnických živností (Jakub Celba, Vojtěch Hejna, oba by dnes náleželi do Ratibořic, Jan Pavlů, Matěj Brabec a Jiří Možíš) a 1 výsadní hostinec (Antonín Jirbina). Roku 1798 byl Petrem Bironem, vévodou kuronským, postaven na předhradí altán s plochým stropem a šindelovou střechou. Jinak tu zůstal pouze panský dvůr, při němž vzniklo několik chalup. V roce 1843 měl Rýzmburk 7 domů a 52 obyvatel.

Roku 1849 se stal Rýzmburk součástí Žernova, k němuž katastrálně náležel již dávno předtím a s ním sdílí společné osudy až do dnešní doby. V té době se tu nacházel poplužní dvůr, mlýn s pilou a hospoda. O 20 let později se tu nacházelo 59 obyvatel v 7 domech. V 70. letech 19. století byla založena na Rýzmburku jedna ze dvou panských lesních školek, přičemž ta druhá se nacházela v Dubně. 16. ledna 1890 vyhořel panský mlýn s pilou, který měl najatý Jan Vavřina. Vrchnost ho již neobnovila a na jeho místě vybudovala následujícího roku stavení čp. 6 pro svého cestáře. Roku 1891 proběhla dražba usedlosti čp. 2 s pozemky, jež byla odhadnuta na 1 556 zlatých. O rok později se dostala do dražby usedlost čp. 1 v odhadní ceně 25 825 zlatých. Při exekuční dražbě 7. prosince 1892 byla přiklepnuta českoskalické záložně za 13 000 zlatých, načež byla podána vyšší nabídka a usedlost byla při dražbě 4. dubna 1893 prodána za nejvyšší podání 15 600 zlatých. V roce 1903 byl schválen zákon, jímž se upravovalo provedení regulace Úpy od Pecru až k Rýzmburskému dvoru. Kolem roku 1910 došlo v panském dvoře ke zřízení deputátních bytů, a to z dosavadních ratejen. 4. října 1913 vypukl požár ve stodolách panského dvora.

4. listopadu 1923 Žernov vyhověl žádosti obce Červená Hora o urovnání katastrálních hranic, čímž čp. 1 připadlo sousední obci a Rýzmburku tím ubylo 1 stavení. Roku 1923 došlo k parcelaci zdejšího dvora. Žernovští občané od něj získali 32 ha, 89 arů a 68 m2 orné půdy a obec 7 ha, 46 arů a 8 m2. Zbytkový statek s 30 ha pozemků koupil František Švarc. V rámci pozemkové reformy došlo také k památkové ochraně zbytků hradu Rýzmburku, což bylo v roce 1937 knihovně zajištěno ministerstvem zemědělství. 4. července 1929 zasáhla osadu větrná smršť. Františce Manové z čp. 2 byla tehdy stržena polovina krytiny i s krovy. Státní příspěvek na opravu této škody činil 950 Kč. O rok později byl do osady zaveden elektrický proud. Tehdy měla osada 26 obyvatel v 7 domech. 27. září 1937 vyhořela 2 stavení, přičemž čp. 4 bylo a čp. 3 nebylo obnoveno. V červnu 1938 byla osada zasažena epidemií slintavky a kulhavky. Za německé okupace nesla osada pojmenování Riesenburg a fungoval zde hostinec s trafikou Josefa Joudala a obchod smíšeným zbožím Marie Prouzové. Do května 1945 se ve zdejší hájovně ukrývali příslušníci sovětsko-polského výzvědného výsadku, a to 3 měsíce. 10. května 1945 ve dvoře zemřel sovětský voják, jenž byl pohřben na Bílém kopci, ale v listopadu téhož roku se zjistilo, že jeho tělo bylo vyhrabáno šelmami, a tak mu byl vykopán řádný hrob, ale již 26. dubna 1947 byly jeho pozůstatky exhumovány a následujícího dne pohřbeny na žernovském hřbitově. V dubnu 1947 získal zdejší statek JUDr. Albert Prouza. V lednu 1952 byli v souvislosti s akcí „Teror Náchod“ zatčeni a odsouzeni za své spojení s Miloslavem Stejskalem majitel rýzmburského statku JUDr. Albert Prouza a hajný ve výslužbě Jan Prouza. První byl odsouzen na 14 let odnětí svobody a vězněn byl 9 let ve věznici Hradec Králové a v pracovním táboře Bytíz. Druhý byl odsouzen na 2,5 roku odnětí svobody, ale ve vězení těžce onemocněl a pro nemoc byl propuštěn. Jejich majetek propadl ve prospěch státu, čímž se statek ocitl bez majitele. Poněvadž by zemědělci přidělenou půdu nedokázali obdělat, rozhodli se ke společnému hospodaření a založení JZD v Žernově. 31. srpna 1954 se u zříceniny hradu uskutečnila vzpomínková akce ke 100. výročí vydání Babičky Boženy Němcové, z níž se následně vyvinul mezinárodní folklorní festival „U nás na Náchodsku“. V letech 1957-1958 byla provedena generální oprava altánu a jeho okolí. K 1. lednu 1960 přišel Rýzmburk o čp. 7 a 10 (Staré bělidlo, vystavěné 17. července 1797 nákladem Antonína Rudra, a prádelnu), jež byly přičleněny k Ratibořicím a ty k České Skalici. V roce 1960 byla vyasfaltována cesta od obecní chalupy na Žernově. Roku 1962 byla u Rýzmburského altánu zřízena Pamětní síň bájí a pověstí Boženy Němcové. V roce 1965 byla opravena družstevní sýpka a cesta z Rýzmburku k okresní silnici. Roku 1966 došlo k přestavbě zdejšího jeviště, k němuž byly přistavěny zděné šatny. V roce 1967 byl obnoven rybník v místech, kde již dříve býval. Roku 1970 zde žilo 12 obyvatel v 5 domech. V roce 1974 byla k jevišti přistavěna šatna. 28. června 1981 byla slavnostně otevřena naučná stezka od staré školy v České Skalici až na Rýzmburský altán. V letech 1983-1984 byly pořízeny nové lavičky do hlediště. Na jaře 1986 proběhl povrchový průzkum hradní zříceniny, při němž byl nalezen soubor pozdně renesančních kamnových kachlů. Roku 1988 byla oplechována střecha altánu a muzea. O 5 let později se zdejší folklorní festival „U nás na Náchodsku“ přesunul do Červeného Kostelce. V roce 1995 byl Rýzmburský altán vrácen v restituci. Ze statku se stal hotel Rýzmburk, o němž se lze více dozvědět zde: http://ryzmburk.cz. 20. dubna 1998 vznikla kynologická organizace Žernov - Rýzmburk, jež začala s budováním kynologického centra SULTÁN předchozího roku. Informace o ní lze nalézt tady: https://www.zkozernov.cz/. 7. května 2000 se uskutečnil 0. ročník kynologické výstavy „Rýzmburský voříšek aneb psí výstava pro všechny“. V roce 2003 byla vybudována naučná Stezka Jakuba Míly. V letech 2003-2009 proběhla postupná obnova zdejšího altánu. Roku 2015 byl do osady prodloužen vodovod. V roce 2019 vznikl spolek Rýzmburští ztracenci, z. s.

Ze zdejších pamětihodností je třeba vyjmenovat zejména: od 10. března 1964 památkově chráněnou zříceninu hradu Rýzmburku a na ni navazující altán z konce 18. století; od 27. srpna 2018 památkově chráněný dřevěný věšadlový most, který byl vybudován v roce 1880 jako Prinz Franz Josef´s Brücke; kamenný kříž před domem čp. 8, jenž byl vystavěn roku 1787 nákladem zdejšího šafáře Jana Mojžíše (též psán jako Možíš). Za zmínku stojí rovněž bohatý zdroj pitné vody, jenž vyvěrá ze stráně pod Rýzmburkem nad cestou mezi bývalým splavem a Červeným mostem a bývá jmenován jako „Mergl“ či „Pramen Jakuba Míly“. Zdejší nadlesní Karel Merker (1788-1872) se zapsal do dějin tím, že 11. srpna 1831 způsobil velký požár Červeného Kostelce. Tehdy totiž střílel u Lhotského rybníka kachny a hořící ucpávkou zapálil doškovou střechu jednoho stavení, z něhož přeskočil oheň na další domy. Nakonec vyhořelo na 75 domů a stodol. O tomto požáru se nachází zmínka tady: http://www.sdhck.cz/historie/1831/. Rovněž byl předobrazem pana myslivce v „Babičce“ Boženy Němcové a v povídce „Chudí lidé“ od téže autorky. Na závěr musíme ještě dodat to, že zde zemřely 2 výrazné osobnosti - MUDr. Ignác Rudolf Müller (25. října 1809 Svinišťany - 10. března 1881 Rýzmburk), od roku 1842 rodinný lékař knížecí rodiny Schaumburg-Lippe, a Alois Mezera (20. června 1889 Slaný - 26. září 1945 Rýzmburk), český architekt a manžel malířky Julie Mezerové, rozené Winterové, jež je mj. autorkou obrazu „Na řece Úpě pod Rýzmburkem“ z roku 1942. Rýzmburk je známý též literárně, ať již v "Babičce" Boženy Němcové, tak v dílech dalších regionálních autorů, ať již Václava Řezníčka ("Z různých časů"), tak Františka V. Kodyma ("Poslední mlynář na Riesenburku").
