seems like you all enjoy my rambles! great. anyways it kinda sucks how few deaths in avos and tbc felt narratively satisfying. i think it's kind of a given that deaths will seem less cool when they are given to long-running characters without much room for buildup of their death, or nothing background characters being killed off-screen to reduce numbers rather than being written specifically to die like they were in the first arc etc but stilllll

Analysis of “Lost Stars” new protagonists
I rant about A Vision of Shadows awhile, so go ahead and skip down to the actual PA if you want.
Lost Stars is the first book in the seventh Warriors (aka Warrior Cats) arc. I think the new series, The Broken Code, shows great potential. A Vision of Shadows was extremely disappointing because of the lack of action, the constant drama, and the plot fluctuation. The Broken Code, while still annoying political and dramatic and still lacking the awesome fight scenes (I'm a bloody-thirsty hoe), appears to be going in a direction that will repair the downfall in plot. Warriors has recently received a lot of criticism for abandoning “the Warrior Code”. The Warrior Code was a big deal pretty much up until A Vision of Shadows. No one seemed to care then whether or not any one followed the original conduct code that kept them going through thick and thin. This lack of control and organization is why the sixth Warriors arc went South.
Something that pissed me off during A Vision of Shadows was SkyClan. SkyClan caused way more trouble than necessary, by anyone’s standards. Why introduce an entirely new Clan in the sixth arc? (ignoring Dawn of the Clans). Sure, I understand the whole “new content” thing. But SkyClan felt like a completely out-of-the-blue rescue-act. SkyClan created a load of problems that resulted in the Code being broken multiple times. Not that any one cared. I think The Broken Code arc will be an interesting improvement and I hope shit gets real for those cats and - in the old Warriors fashion - the plot is unforgiving. I hope beloved cats die and others lose everything in order to restore the Code and save the Clans.
Another reason A Vision of Shadows sucked was that the three protagonists were  :   Alderheart  :  Jayfeather 2.0, but not blind: medicine cat, Bramblestar/Squirrelflight’s son, Leafpool’s apprentice, blah blah blah we’ve seen it all with Jayfeather before. Probably the most boring protagonist in the whole saga.   Twigbranch  :  first of all, she suffers from the worst name ever. It literally translates to small-stick-big-stick. (Check out the YouTube channel Quiet Rage for more on bad Warriors’ names). I don’t really have anything against Twigbranch, except that she’s just so b o r i n g. The last two books or so give her more character development in which she is portrayed as not feeling like she belongs anywhere, as long as not wanting kits. Tbh the not wanting kits part was super creepy on Finleap’s part and I wish that had not been included. It was super uncomfortable. Twigbranch is a good character, just an awful protagonist.   Violetshine  :   she was def my favorite aVoS protagonist. I thought she was well written and well rounded. She was sweet and loyal. But again, there was nothing special about her. We needed insight on SkyClan and she proved useful then, but as aVoS didn't ever have much of a climax, she wasn’t given the opportunity to do much. I also had a problem with her becoming pregnant. She felt way too young. It felt like one of those over-celebrated teen pregnancies. Tree was a lot older too. . .
Damn, I wish Warriors wasn’t so sexually problematic. Does anyone remember that tHeSe BoOKs ArE fOR yOUnG aNd IMpresSiOnaBle cHiLDrEN?!?! Guess not. That ship sailed a long time ago.
Anyway. Here is the actual point of the post.  Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
An Analysis of The Broken Code Protagonists
Warrior Cats has always had an interesting approach to protags. The Prophecies Begin, of course, had dearly believed Firestar. The New Prophecy had like six protags or something: Squirrelflight, Bramblestar, Leafpool, Stormfur, Crowfeather, and maybe Feathertail or Firestar idk. That was probably too much as I loved the series but can’t remember who even narrated it. Power of Three had the three boo-hoo, yada yada, no one cares. Dawn of the Clans I don’t really remember at all, but I think Thunder, Clear Sky, and Gray Wing were the protags. Omen of the Stars had our darling queen Ivypool, as well as Lionblaze, Jayfeather, and that chick Dovewing. AVoS has already been discussed. I don’t want to go back there.
I think The Broken Code has some very interesting, fresh new cats to tell our story.
Shadowpaw
Son of Tigerstar and Dovewing
ShadowClan
Medicine cat apprentice
Shadowpaw is our fourth frikin medicine cat protagonist. Jayfeather will forever hold a place in my heart, as will the young Leafpool, but I’ve already almost forgotten whatever meager character development Alderheart was given.
Has these weird seizures/visions from StarClan, who is currently ignoring everyone else.
I’m mostly interested in why the Erins chose “shadow” as Shadowpaw’s prefix. He’s a ShadowClan cat. There are no Riverpaws, Thunderpaws, Windpaws, or Skypaws, not even in other Clans.
Medicine cat thing is overused and boring, but Shadowpaw is pretty interesting all the same.
“kills” Bramblestar
Bristlefrost
tf is going on with her name
is a Warrior already
saved Rootpaw’s life
is Ivypool’s daughter
ThunderClan
Firestar’s kin
hopelessly in love
heart gets broken
not really sure what her point is yet
I would have liked more inside information about ThunderClan. Like more on Leafpool’s death, is Millie dead? wtf is she?, how the hell is Graystripe still alive, and all those other great supporting characters that have been abandoned.
Rootpaw
SkyClan
Son of Violetshine and Tree
he’s my new fav
I don’t like SkyClan, but he seems like a cool cat
adorable
distracted 24/7
crushing on Bristlefrost
GOD NO NOT ANOTHER FORBIDDEN ROMANCE
unlikely because she doesn’t like him like that and they are trying to fiX tHe CoDE but I don't trust the Erins
anxious
I love the angle in which he is embarrassed/ashamed of his father. That is a new plot, but very relatable. The Bramblestar/Tigerstar thing was different because Rootpaw is only ashamed because Tree is different not because he’s done anything actually wrong. Rootpaw is terrified he will seem strange because of his father.
tbh I never loved Tree either
team Rootpaw
you go, honey
Okay, there you go. I hope at least a couple people enjoy this because it took like an hour to write out. Send me an Ask if you have any questions or want my opinion or want to share yours. I’m curious what other people think of The Broken Code.
