Hi i loved this--it came out much longer than i intended oops <3

The Chocobros and their Kids’ First Words: A Competition
Noctis
Noctis was surprisingly enthusiastic about being a dad. Not that you didn’t expect him to love it, but he was so ecstatic about interacting with his child and doing things for him that you were a little… surprised.
He was absolutely determined to be a fantastic dad, but he was a little competitive at times.
You came home many days to your husband attempting to teach him how to say, “Daddy!”
“Noct, babe, try not to rush him; he’s only a few months old,” You’d laugh, picking up your son with a little bounce and booping his nose.
Noct would always shrug, throwing you a cheeky smile and say, “Yeah, just wanted to get a headstart,”
You’d roll your eyes with a smile and walk off while Noctis could only stare starry-eyed at the sight of you, his wonderful spouse, carrying your child in your arms.
The older your child became, however, the more you tried to get your baby to say “Mama”, the more Noctis tried to get him to say “Daddy”.
“C’mon, sweetie! Say ‘Mama’!” You tried, smiling brightly at your child and holding his tiny hands.
“No--no, c’mon, try daddy!” Noctis butted in, nudging you over with a smirk. He looked back at his son, “You can say ‘daddy’, right? Daaa-aaa-ddd-yyy…” He dragged out each syllable. You glared at him, finally elbowing him when he began repeating himself. “Daaaddd--wha hey, babe, c’mon--” He laughed as he spoke, barely managing to get out his words as he looked at you and the small pout on your face.
“Noct, sweetie, can you please stop?”
“Aw, c’mon… I’m just encouraging our son to talk,”
You narrowed your eyes at him, daring him to say something else. Finally, he let out a sigh, smiling as he held his hands up. “Alright, babe…” He looked at your child, “Okay, how about you say ‘Mama’?”
“D...M…”
You both froze, staring at your child with wide eyes. “Holy shit--”
“Noctis!” Your voice was sharp as you lightly smacked his shoulder.
“Sorry!” He turned his attention back to your child, his enthusiasm returning tenfold. “C’mon, say ‘Daddy’!”
You knew your husband was throwing you to the dogs. “Say ‘mommy’!” You exclaimed, trying to interrupt Noctis and push him over a little bit.
He returned the gesture, raising his voice as he tried to encourage your kid. It became a battle of sorts, the two of you trying to speak over each other and pushing the other one away while your child stared with big, clueless eyes.
And then, he opened his mouth, some babbles coming out. You two froze, leaning in expectantly.
“D…” Noctis looked ecstatic, “... Ih… Iggy!”
Both of your jaws dropped, your child giggling and clapping his hands together as he shouted gleefully, “Iggy!”
“I fucking swear--”
“Noctis, LANGUAGE!”
Gladio
Gladio was a fantastic father. He knew how to change diapers, how to play with his child, and there was nothing that brought you joy as much as seeing him read your baby to sleep, even if she was still to young to understand anything at all.
As your daughter got older, he even tried teaching her words. He’d point to things around her and say their names. “Look, it’s a dolly… That’s your blankie… Bottle…” It was always a beautiful scene and sometimes you couldn’t help but stand there and watch your gorgeous husband interact with your adorable daughter.
He’d always turn around and smile, pointing to you with one finger and saying, “Look! It’s Mommy!”
He seemed determined to get her first words to be “Mommy!”, and as his plan became evident, you were determined for her first words to be, “Daddy!”
“Look, it’s mommy!” Gladio said one day as you sat down next to him. “Say hi, sweetie,” He cooed, a gentle smile on his face.
“And look!” You said, smiling as you pointed to Gladio, “It’s daddy! Think you can say daddy?” You asked, beaming as you tried to pull her attention towards Gladio. She only stared at you, her amber eyes big as she giggled.
“No, sweetie,” Gladio said, giving you a little smirk, “Say, ‘mommy’! Mooommmyyy…”
Now she was looking at Gladio, clapping her hands together as she giggled. Gladio couldn’t help but smile at her, chuckling.
“How about we try saying, ‘Daddy’?” You asked her, earning her attention. “Daaa--”
“Nope,” Gladio interrupted, giving you a little smirk, “Moooommmyyyy…” Your daughter looked at him, smiling.
“Try daddy!” You nudged Gladio, earning a very mild nudge in return.
“Mommy!”
“Daddy!”
“Mommy!”
“Oh my goodness, Gladio,” You groaned in exasperation. “Isn’t this supposed to be the other way around? I say ‘Mommy’, and you say ‘Daddy’,” You rested your head on his shoulder, unable to keep the smile out of your face.
Gladio smiled, looking down at you with nothing but unconditional love in his eyes. “Maybe.
But I wanted to give you the attention you deserve,” He said, leaning down and placing a soft kiss on your lips.
“Mo...Mo…”
You both whipped around to look at your daughter, large smiles on your faces. “OH my--c’mon, Laelia, you can say it!” You encouraged, beaming.
Your daughter paused, looking at you with big eyes. She raised one chubby finger, pointing to Gladio and moving her attention to him. “Mama!”
Surprise fell over his face, his lips slightly parted and his eyes big.
Your daughter giggled, clapping her hands as she looked at her father. “Mama!” She giggled, looking pleased with herself.
You couldn’t help but laugh, your smile large as you looked at Gladio. “Well, you got what you wanted,” You told him, snickering.
Gladio only sighed, chuckling as he nodded and pulled you close. “Yeah, but I don’t really think I look like a mommy,” He said, still unable to keep the proud smile off of his face.
Ignis
Ignis loved his daughter--and he was a fantastic father. He always knew the best products to buy, he was fantastic at getting her to behave when she was being ornery, and by god did he look good while he did it. He was always up to date on everything, and you couldn’t count the days he would share some new knowledge with you.
Ignis was home quite often once the two of you had your daughter. You knew it was most likely Noctis’ decision, but Ignis definitely wasn’t going to refuse the extra time to watch his daughter grow up.
You couldn’t count the days when you came home and saw Ignis either reading to Delilah, a look of amazement on her little, round face or playing with her and her abundance of dolls.
“Welcome home, darling,” Ignis smiled at you one day, pressing a small kiss to your forehead. “I’m afraid the boys have stopped by for dinner tonight…”
It wasn’t abnormal for them to show up, especially after Delilah was born. They weren’t too terrible at babysitting either--except that one time Noctis almost put her in the trash can.
“Oh! That’s nice--”
“They’re trying to teach her how to speak, again,” Ignis sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. It was always a disaster when they tried that.
You could hear their loud voices from the kitchen, “Hey! Say Noctis--” “Noooo, say Prompto! C’mon, you love me!”
“Don’t listen to them, Delilah, you know I’m the coolest,”
They often fought for her attention, trying to get her to say their names or other things. There was one time where they tried teaching her the word “shit”. Ignis was furious.
You walked into the kitchen, Noctis and Prompto brightening as they greeted you, Gladio waving a hand in greeting. Delilah was sitting on Gladio’s lap, giggling away as Noctis and Prompto tried to fight for her attention.
You smiled as you picked your daughter up, “I think I’d much rather hear her say, ‘Mommy’, than any of your names,” You told them, smirking as you held onto her.
“I think I have to agree with you,” Ignis said, resting his hand on your shoulder for a moment as he passed you.
“Aw, c’mon, Iggs!” Prompto whined.
You chuckled, bouncing Delilah on your hip.”Hey, sweetie, look, it’s papa!” You said, pointing to Ignis. She kept her gaze on you, babbling a little. You chuckled at her reaction, smiling. “Now, can you say, ‘mama’?” You asked, cooing as the others had their own conversation behind you.
“Oh, come now, you didn’t ask her to say papa,” Ignis mumbled, leaning against the counter as he waited for the meat to brown.
You shrugged, smirking, “Maybe I want her to say ‘mama’ first,” You shrugged, a teasing note to your voice.
Ignis’s eyebrows rose, “Oh really? Guess we’ll have to see then,” He replied, a small, smug smirk on his face.
You rolled your eyes, “Oh, wipe the little smirk off your face, babe,” You laughed, “I know you’ve been trying to teach her to say papa when I’m not around!”
Ignis paused, his cheeks heating up a little bit. “Well, I’m sure you do the same,” He replied, turning around and pretending he had to finish whipping up a sauce.
“Of course I do! And she’s gonna say my name first!”
Ignis smirked as he turned back to you, “As I said, we’ll have to see,” He said calmly, crossing his arms.
You couldn’t help but stick your tongue out at him, earning a chuckle. You turned back to Delilah, trying to coerce a response from her. “Think you can say ‘mama’?” You asked, cooing at her.
She babbled a little bit, her big green eyes wide. “Babbababba…”
“Does that count?” You asked, looking at Ignis.
He laughed, catching his friends off guard, “Not likely, darling,”
“Well, then.” You looked back at your daughter, “C’mon, sweetie! Say ‘momma’!”
She looked at you, then at Ignis, and back at you. “Pa…” You froze, glancing at Ignis. He looked smug.
“Pompom!!!!” She shrieked, giggle as she pointed to Prompto on the floor.
Ignis’s smug look was wiped off his face as his eyes widened and your jaw dropped. Prompto’s eyes went big, looking guilty.
Delilah giggled, clapping her hands, “Pompom! Pompom!” She made grabby motions towards him.
You sighed, setting her on the floor. Still, you couldn’t hide the smile on your face as she crawled towards Prompto. He was beaming, picking her up and setting her in his lap with a dumb grin on his face.
“See?” He said, grinning at the others. “She likes me best!”
You couldn’t help but exchange looks with your husband, smiling as you went to stand by him. “Guess we both lost,” You said, sighing.
Ignis pressed a kiss to your forehead, “She said her first word, darling, I’d say that’s a win regardless.”
Prompto
Prompto absolutely adored being a dad. He loved sitting on the floor and playing with his daughter or showing her his camera. He liked to see her looking at his camera with big, wide eyes and trying to push the buttons.
Every moment was documented on his camera, and you knew that Prompto was already looking to buy scrapbooks.
He was a good dad, always thinking of his daughter and getting excited whenever she did anything remotely cool. “June is sooo cute!” He’d tell you, holding up his camera for you to see the newest picture. It was adorable.
Of course, Prompto also resigned himself to trying to teach her new words, well before she was even capable of speaking. You told him so, and he’d only shrug, giving you a big smile. “She’ll pick them up quick, then!”
You went with it.
You knew Prompto just wanted to hear his daughter say “Papa!” and that was understandable, as you wanted to hear her say “Mama!” at the same time.
“C’mon, Junebug, say ‘Papa’!” You heard Prompto encouraging one day. He was sitting in front of June on the rug, his camera resting on the side.
June only babbled in response, looking at his camera and making grabby hands towards it. It wasn’t the first time you had walked in to see your husband trying to urge her to say words, and you didn’t think it would be the last.
“C’mooon, Junebug! Pa...pa!” He tried again, sighing at her clueless look.
You smiled, walking over and plopping down next to him. Prompto jolted slightly, looking at you with a sheepish smile. “Hey, babe!” He beamed, always happy to see you.
“Hiya, sunshine,” You smiled, pecking his cheek before greeting your daughter. “How’re you doing, today, June?” You asked her, lifting her into your lap and booping her nose with a smile.
She only babbled incoherent syllables, spit bubbling from her lips as she pulled on your shirt.
There was the click of a camera, and you looked up to see Prompto grinning, “That was a good one, babe,” He told you, placing it down. “A picture with my two favorite ladies? That’s goin’ in a frame for sure!”
You chuckled, having long since gotten used to Prompto’s constant use of a camera. “Trying to get her to speak?” You asked, looking at Prompto with a small smile.
He nodded, blushing a little. “Uh, yeah! Kids start to speak around this age, don’t they?”
You nodded, humming. “Yeah, it’s only a matter of time until this one starts to talk,” You told him, looking at your daughter and her cute, freckled face. “But I bet she’ll say ‘mama’ first!” You said. “How ‘bout that, June? Can you say ‘mama’ for me?”
Prom pouted, “Noooo, Junebug! Say ‘Dada’!” He begged, leaning forward and capturing her attention.
June only giggled, poking his face with her chubby fingers.
“I think she’d prefer to say, ‘mama’,” You tell Prompto, adjusting the bow in June’s blonde hair. “Besides, you like mama more, don’t you, June?” You giggled, tickling her sides.
June laughed away, her innocent little giggles making Prompto smile. “No! She likes me more,” He retorted, picking up her favorite bear, “Don’t you, Junebug?” He grinned, holding up the bear. “If you say ‘dada’, Mr. Bear might just give you a hug!”
You couldn’t help but scoff, rolling your eyes good-naturedly. “I can’t believe it’s come to this,” You say, sighing, “My husband is bribing my daughter with her own stuffed bear… Just to win her over… If my mother could see me now,”
Prompto can’t help but laugh, giving June the bear and leaning over to wrap you in a warm hug, peppering your face in kisses. “Don’t worry, babe!” He tells you, grinning, “You’ll always have me!” He smiles, his face melting as he looks at you and the light flush dusting your face.
There’s a small moment between the two of you--your eyes locked on his, and you’re aware of nothing but Prompto and the warm fluttering of your heart.
“Cahmrah!”
You both jolt, looking down at the child between your bodies. She’s giggling, pointing at Prompto’s discarded camera.
“Cahmrah!” She repeats, looking at the two of you as she points, smiling.
You and Prompto look at each other, giant smiles on your faces. Prompto can’t help but whisk June up into his arms, beaming, “Look at you, Junebug!” He grins, looking like the happiest father in the world. “Papa’s so proud!” He exclaims, before looking at you with a bright twinkle in his eye. “Hang on, I gotta get a picture!” He gasps, sitting June between the two of you and picking his camera up.
He holds it up, beaming. “Smile!” He calls, snapping the picture just as June points.
“Camhrah!” She points, giggling as he snaps the picture.
Prompto beams, looking at the two of you with pure joy on his face. He can’t help but wonder how he ended up with the two of you in his life.
