Just realized something devastating about BD Ep8

So you know how Kazuki called Rei after Rei finished the job, when he was just sitting there?

I was like "why would Kazuki call him if he knew he was on a job, that could have been really dangerous if his timing was bad"

In fact, I was even worried that Kazuki would call him while he's fighting, throwing him off and causing him to get hurt (so much angst potential oof)

But Kazuki's timing was too good. So I'm guessing the GPS in Rei's phone is accurate enough that Kazuki could see he'd been in the exact same spot for a while, not moving around like before.

Knowing Kazuki, there must have been a moment, maybe right before he called, where he thought the reason why Rei wasn't moving was because he was dead or badly hurt. There must have been a moment, however tiny, where Kazuki thought he'd lost another partner and parent to his child.

Maybe that's why he called when he did.

At this point Kazurei isn't even subtext anymore:

- Kazuki moving in with Rei and taking care of him, including cutting his hair and giving baths and cooking for him and even buying furniture (to make it look like more like a home

- Kazuki immediatelly going after Rei when sensing that Rei was going to distance himself again from him

- Rei's dad making a point to say how their fsmily is pure blooded and dont mingle with others, while directly saying he wants Rei to continue the family (aka having children) and then implying he would get rid of Kazuki if he got in the way...

- Rei's dad then also immediatelly sending him to kill a guy who was going to leave the organisation due to finding love...

Hey remember Kazuki in EP1 saying Rei shouldn’t take in strays and try to help unless he’s fully committed? That caring and forming ties in this field is dangerous?

Then Rei keeps getting associated with cats all the time and someone who needs to be taken care of. Now we learn that Kazuki took one look at this man who needed help and immediately took in a ‘stray’. Kazuki took care of him.

Kazuki, one year after he learnt that forming ties is bad, couldn’t help but care for Rei.

Episode 8 post-credits scene (ya know, if it had one)

Rei sat there, staring at the birthday cake and the candles he just blew out. In the background, he hears Kazuki attempting to wake a sleeping Miri. “Miri~ come on now, don’t you wanna eat some cake with Rei Papa? Ah, I guess it is pretty late. Oh well, let’s get you to bed then.” Kazuki gently scoops Miri up from the couch.

As he carries Miri to her room, he walks by the dining table and catches a glimpse of Rei, who’s chewing on a bite of the cake. But then he sees something he’s never seen before. There are tears building up in Rei’s eyes. Rei takes another bite of cake, seemingly unaware of the look on his own face. Kazuki walks toward him. “Hey~ what are you doing? It’s just cake, no need for the water works. You should know by now that Miri cares about you.” Kazuki reaches out his free hand and brushes the stray piece of Rei’s hair out of his face. “And I suppose I care about you too, you idiot.” Kazuki leans down and plants a kiss on Rei’s forehead. “So don’t make us worry like that again, asshole!”

Kazuki walks away with Miri in his arms toward her bedroom. Rei is dumbfounded, but a slight smile brightens his face. Kazuki whispers to Miri in the distance, “I can’t believe he cried! Miri you really missed out hehehe”

“Hey… let’s all sleep together tonight.”

Kazuki stops and turns to look at Rei. Rei’s cheeks are flushed ever so slightly. With a sly grin, Kazuki says in a teasing voice, “Is that your birthday wish?”

“Yes.” No hesitation. Kazuki chuckles, “Alright, as you wish. But go wash up first, you’re filthy! Whose blood is that anyway?! It better not be yours!”

Rei smiles to himself. I think this is happiness.

I was talking to a friend and realized that not only Rei's dad called him on his birthday as a way to "prove" to Rei that his life belongs to him and the organisayion, but also that he called all the way out of his house probably so it eould be easier to spy on Kazuki who they expected to be all alone (hence the pic taken of him when he was buying groceries with Miri)

It was so nice how Kazuki still obviously censors stuff for Miri because she’s a kid, but he also sorta slowed down on the whole baby-talk thing this episode(EP8). He told her everything and listened to her, never dismissed her this time when she(very accurately tbh) analyzed Rei and told her stuff about Rei’s past. Over the last few episodes, their dynamic has slowly begun to change too.

Kazuki saw her as someone to take care of and that’s it. Kinda fell into default childcare mode instead of really talking to her at the beginning, but at the zoo visit episode he realized he’s been wrong and now has actually changed it up.

Miri also has become a lot more willing to help and even more independent with what she wants to do. Before she didn’t really want to talk to Kazuki about personal stuff, that was Rei’s thing, but this episode she was very honest about what she thought and opened up to him.

I love how the show is so tight and consistent with the progress these characters show.
